Meh, still don’t get how sd is completely dead. The old acro build isn’t no where near good I agree. People still use to run 2/6/0/0/6 kitten and as far as I can see, that hasn’t changed at all apart from hurting a lot more.
I may not play in as high teirs as some of you but I can not imagine how it differs from lower teirs because in both instances if you make 1 mistake then you are screwed regardless.
I think people don’t like the fact that can no long use there dodge roll as much as they use too and don’t like the fact that they have play different or even change their build.
Still rocking and losing as s/d and I will have to accept that too.

root problem: SA + dp too cheese.
if they buff acro or sd it will be another “balance” change by anet, they need to tone down SA so we thieves can have another way to play atm.
It would be nice if they revert the nerf to LS to bring back the 2 boon strip tho.

Flanking Strike was changed, so you can only remove a boon after you successfully Hit the first Part, which is hard enough against competen ppl, cause of blind, dodge, Cc, dmg that kills you before etc pp.
It would be a start to let it steal 2 boons again, but i doubt they will change anything for thieves at all.
S/d is only good for entering a fight and using c’n’d to get of a little stun with tacticle strice afterwards + of the Mini root from IS…
If they would change shadows embrace back as it was ( i would call this Bug fixing) then S/d would also Profit because it would remove a dmging condition for sure…. which would also make x/d builds better overall.

D/P SA is also notably lame. Tone it down (in terms of SA, sorry to those who enjoy being lame) and tone down eles and still a few more traits on Mesmers and reassess.
On my Necro I actually have a harder time with SD than DP if not for DP having a get out of jail free card whenever they wanted. They’re also 10x more enjoyable to fight. Don’t ruin that by trying to outmatch your cheese spec, and other obviously over the top specs, friends.

I don’t play my teef much, but right now S/D seems like what the weapon set is SUPPOSED to be. It was broken good before, now it just seems balanced. The lackluster feeling comes from D/P being so prevalent. ANet seems fixated on the idea of stealth camping and blind spamming when it comes to Teef/Mes these days.
I rarely ever enjoy fighting Teef while on another class, but the current S/D isn’t bad. It generally feels like it comes down to who plays better. When you fight D/P, it’s very possible for them to just disappear once things start going bad and not reappear for 20+ seconds. Heck, you can down them early on in SR and if you can’t find them due to a lack of AoE and not getting lucky with cleave they could revive and you won’t even know you actually downed them.
S/D seems a way healthier build to encourage overall.

Not even. Already said I’ve had more issues with S/D, but it’s a much more legitimate spec. It’s where others should be, not Up, but also not OP. Stop trying to force everything into being buffed all the time, it’s bad for the game. I’d even say Ranger and Necromancer are where other classes should be, and I play one. I’d take some very minor adjustments to Necro, but overall, I’m happy with it. We just need some garbage stuff to be turned down at this point, no more going up, please….

Back when burst shatter with X traits was the only so called viable build for mesmers, I still played with other builds. If you really want to play S/D than play it. No one is stoping you from playing this build. Before the patch, I didn’t go crying in the forums about how X build isn’t viable. There are a lot a classes that many say don’t have more than one good type of build for pvp. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get better and do good with a build that isn’t meta. Its just more of a challenge. Many say this is the fun part. There are a lots weapon combinations that aren’t used that much by other classes.

Before the patch lockdown was absolutly fine, the biggest problem was that you better made no mistakes. And if I got unpatient it was impossible to play.
But because mesmer was in your described spot they got buffed.
Buff S/D healing or damage or evades or CD reduction. It needs to happen for S/D
My mesmer can deal s/d damage with greatsword aa and shatter. But my mesmer can also have 3 phants that deal 5k each. Theif needs this kind of damage.

Thief has that kinda of damage. On dagger. Sword has always been a damage avoidance tool and not merely one of damage. While I agree thief isn’t in the best place, saying it doesn’t compare to a mesmer who somehow has 3 living, DPS phantasms is idiotic. This blatant exaggeration is also part of the reason people are still whining about mesmer and lumping them together with D/D ele despite pretty much all factors of their burst being nerfed(Mirror Blade, HM, Fire and Air Sigils).
If you’re killing people with 3 phantasms and auto-attacks, they’re just plain bad.

Don’t get me wrong but in a long sustained battle mesmer has more damage per second. Thief may do a fast 15k within a second but after that it has nothing left. Mesmer can keep going nonstop. (S/D is not D/P which has by far superior dps)

never had a problem fighting an s/d thief on any class, i enjoyed playing one prepatch, it was legit,
anet says they want build variety yet gives you 1 viable spec if even that

That is a big problem, because normal evasion is what many other professions have while also having proper healing without having to cower in stealth, higher health pools, strong defensive weapon skills or utilities, or any combination of these.
If thief had some viable methods of in-combat recovery so the loss of evasion was made up or they could help restore our evasion in a skillfull manner acrobatics would resume attention. Lately I see s/d users having SA over acrobatics simply because if offers more. It seems silly but that’s the reality even though SA has tons of flaws itself it serves as a better defense over a trait line dedicated to s/d.

Yeah, I switched to SA. Acro just offers nothing reliable atm. Even if I never use CnD, SA is imo better than Acro. And if they nerf SA ppl will simply play DA/CS/Tr.
SA, even if it would synergize well with s/d -which it doesn’t- would be more boring for a playstyle than a fixed acro line.

I am a S/D fan, and I really must not play in a high tier (I just play unranked and ranked casually), because I can easily take down any D/P Thief I come across. I think S/D is in a good spot, and is a lot of fun to play. I firmly believe it is down to my own mistakes that I die, except for Mesmers, good ones always seem to just toy with me lol.

Acrobatics was always supposed to fit one of 3 key defenses on thief, evasion. Sadly they made this depenedent heavily on Feline Grace which was nerfed to no longer grant a unique endurance regen and bring us back to normal evasion. That is a big problem, because normal evasion is what many other professions have while also having proper healing without having to cower in stealth, higher health pools, strong defensive weapon skills or utilities, or any combination of these.

I have also been using DA/CS/Tr since SA doesn’t fit me either. It’s working alright. The acro nerf just made me double down on damage. S/D could use some sideways buffs/reversions of past nerfs (2 boon larcenous since the rollover isn’t automatic anymore, Tactical Strike duration, Autoattack chain could do the same DPS but attack faster, etc). SA needs a couple of tweaks here and there, but acro is a mess right now.
The only thing that will happen is (as usual): Anet will nerf dp for the sake of sd and not solve anything…they don’t give a flying cow how bad thieves perform compared to other classes atm. Thief dev doesn’t even know thief traits nor what they do, you actually expect something productive from those?
Thieves degerated to rez/stealth/decap bots that are not capable of anything else.

Some balancing could be done to make it more desirable but Feline is dead and should never be res’d.
