Are there other small tweaks like this (aside from removal of solo queue) that you feel would make the map a better experience for players – changes that wouldn’t drastically change the gameplay dynamic and aesthetic of the map?

it is the “gameplay dynamic” that everyone hates…

why suggestions aside from removing it? we all want it removed.
i will never play this map and as such i don’t play soloQ because of it.
it even bugs me that it pops up in hotjoin and i have to switch servers.
i know thousands of other player will simply AFK this map in soloQ,
remove it already,

read through the 1500 posts you’ve binned in this thread. we all hate it.

Before I could understand the people who didn’t like sky hammer personally I never got mad about it but still I could understand. Now I think its just a L2P issue. Hammer now is basically a catapult that tells you where its landing lol.

Skyhammer has been nerfed to death. The new map update is nothing but a bad joke.

I really wished that the laser become dodgeble but the new update regarding the platforms is kinda joke imho opinion.
And this basicly just resulting by the fact that players listen to loud music instead to listen to ingame sounds which clearly gives you the advice when to dodge/avoid.
I created an Engineer just for this map because Im trying to help my team with a viable character. And it makes me sick to see that ppl really playing full tank guardian and do nothing but to wait to get hitted be the hammer.

And yes, I really like skyhammer in a competitive way. Really good players often dancing around the death and it can take several minutes to get the control of it for a short period of time. ( YoloQ player)

only difference i’m seeing is less death by stealth thief or engineer pull, so still not that great imo. and off-topic for this reply, but seriously, fix the roll for which map you get. i played 10 solo queue matches a while ago: all 10 were skyhammer. not fun

Now that Hammer got nerfed, there is even more emphasis on CC and glass panel abusing than before, even with the glass panel changes.

This map is fundamentally flawed and I stay convinced that nothing will make it acceptable. Also, I would be sad to see further resources going into “fixing” this map. – dev time is precious and it would be nice to finally see a significant update for pvp, spending time with skyhammer can only delay things and it will never be a suitable map for rated play. Just remove it from soloque please.

No there are not.

The only thing that can be done is remove this map and Spirit Watch from SoloQ.

Why cannot we (solo players) have a Solo Arena with the same map Rotation as in team arena? Is it really so difficult to implement? What are the reasons behind it?

Mes with x/focus+gs, tanky guard gs+x/shield or hammer, tanky war spec with fear+stomp or rifle, Fearamancer, ranger with point black shot+wolf fear or celestial bunkerish staff ele. Those are some options.

I’d like if the area around the actual skyhammer interface had a few less ledges, or a somewhat different design that didnt make it such a CC haven, but otherwise I think the changes were good. Still not crazy about the glass panels, though.

The stage is Skyhammer, learn to play it. almost every class can knock people off, fear them down, pull them down etc. Stability also stops this, u can los the knock offs and pull downs. Please get a Skyhammer build and start playing the map the way it should be played. A couple examples are, Guardian take gs or hammer, Thief can pull them down stealth, Mesmers can change to focus for the stage, engies can do alot, rangers can take a knock back. Its not hard to quickly change something to make you better at the stage. Play to your strengths, learn from your deaths and PLEASE get a Skyhammer build.

Yeah see the problem isn’t people not wanting to ’l2p and roll for skyhammer’.
It’s depressingly easy to roll a build that is effective on the map, and most people that complain about it regularly have certainly done this and racked up the kills at least a few times. It’s... eh. Maybe fun for the first few, then it gets boring, repetitive and frustrating.
The issue we all have is that this *shouldn’t be necessary*. Why does direct damage/condi damage/healing exist, if CC can get kills while dealing almost no damage?

Of course maps should be varied and require different playstyles and of course different builds are going to be more or less powerful on different maps. It still doesn’t make falling-to-death an interesting or fun mechanic in competitive GW2.

Skyhammer’s really *excellent* thing is the jump pads/varied elevations. *They* are what should be influencing the majority of builds, not the ground under the map. Ranged attacks become more powerful when a melee on a point can’t reach their attacker... but as things are, it’s always better to just bring stability/CC and drag people down holes anyway.

Even the hammer itself would probably be okay, now that it can be dodged, if it wasn’t on that tiny platform with the buggy gate as its only access point. As it is, it’s a very powerful secondary objective, that can be dominated by certain classes/builds, and has to be focused on all game.
Y’know how Spirit Watch comes after Skyhammer in maps-that-players-don’t-want-in-soloq? Y’know how neither of these maps are seen as fit for teamq? Yeah.

Did you read the rest of my post, by the way? I specifically said that it’s really easy to roll a build for the map, and that I’ve done it, and that most of the other people who’ve written lengthy posts about the map have certainly done it.

The problem isn’t that we die to such builds on the map and come here to QQ.

The problem *is* that CC is disproportionately powerful, and can get 0-damage kills. The falling-to-death mechanic does not belong in ranked PvP - if it does, why don’t we have the new-and-improved Skyhammer in teamq?

The map should either get its ridiculous instagib idea removed, and maybe thereby let us get another map in teamq, or get completely removed from sPvP to become an Activity that turns everyone into decap Engineers (or some other CC-crazy setup) with equal stats.

* If all maps played identically, things would obviously be pretty dull - but Skyhammer really does have plenty to distinguish it from other maps without the falling nonsense. Srsly, I love the layout, and have said so numerous times before!

What needs to happen is on the WTS finals, this map needs to be played, so everyone can copy the meta builds for Skyhammer and with that people will have a build to play on Skyhammer.

Currently, there is no meta Skyhammer build, well none that people are willing to share and that’s why people hate Skyhammer because they don’t know how to make builds and keep getting owned by good players and getting owned really fast because they aren’t that good which makes them frustrated at the map. Its just people aren’t used to getting owned so fast so they hate it, they like normal maps where they can do random things and randomly win rather than play on a map like Skyhammer which skill is the primary factor and theres a lot of people out there that are terrible where a good player can just run all over the map owning people all night long and not die.

And yes, I’m perfectly fine with a good player running all over the map and not die, it rewards skills, unlike the other bland maps where you can be a terrible player and still win.

More maps like Skyhammer please!

I would actually like to see the changes reverted. BUT only on the condition that the map be pulled out of Solo Queue rotation. Solo queue should mirror Team queue.

Skyhammer allows me to spec completely tanky and still regularly 1-shot opponents. Any map that allows for that behavior is a troll map. That’s what Skyhammer is.

The improvements move it slightly closer to a conquest map, but the design is inherently flawed as a conquest map. I feel like you should embrace the troll nature of the map, revert the changes and stick it in its own queue.

At least reverting the changes allow engies and thieves to troll as hard as the rest of us.

As an aside, Spirit Watch needs to be pulled from rotation as well and repurposed for another game mode. I really do feel that Solo Queue map rotation should match Team Queue exactly. My 2 cents.

I dont think you understand what the issue is. Good players dont like this map. Any sort of 1 shot means no build up, which means no skillfull play.

We want to win because we outplayed someone. Not because we one shot someone by pulling him down a hole.

Nagrand arena in wow used to have tornados. Blizzard found out that competetive players didnt like gimicky elements in their arenas. So they removed it.

Bigger / more succesfull company knows when they need to adapt.

I just got skyham in soloq match, first time i respawned I glitched through the map, fell for ages into water and was stuck until I relogged. The rest of the match we all had huge lag spikes and 3 people including myself d/ced.
Ranking such a match is a joke.

Agreed. Not sure why ANET is trying so hard to make this a tournament map. Leave it as it was and let it be in hot join. That is where it belong. Not all maps are made for tournaments.

As for spirit watch, if they gave the orb carrier its own set of skills and not able to use class specific skills, utilities, etc, the map would be fine for solo queue. It’s just not good right now.

I must admit it is much better now than when first unleashed on the poor spvp community. I still don’t like that the map has instant kill mechanics that favour builds that can just stack for survivability and cc, but at least its not a complete disaster any more.

ironically Skyhammer would probably make a better teamQ map than SoloQ map.

However I feel this map is exploitable to its own meta in a way that’s just not true of any other map. so I could be completely off base about that.

Overall taking it out of rotation is not a bad idea. One bad thing about skyhammer is it gives certain specs, ie crowd control bunker types, or knockback types a huge boost in power. If a map basically has a meta all to its own, that tells you its a problem.

They already

  • Reduced the # of glass panels in skyhammer room.
  • Added more guard rails.
  • Increase the time it takes for panels to break
  • Stealth no longer doesn’t break panels
  • Cannon can now be dodged

Soon it will be skyhammer without glass panels, walls everywhere and cannon needs to be recharged every shot like in capricorn with cannonballs.

Anet should just remove the map like capricorn. This map is way too hard for the average player to adapt or learn. People will continue to complain about it no matter how much handicap gets added.

Just wanted to keep this post alive as skyhammed is the absolute worst map in the game. any map which promotes players to exploit in order to win is not worth saving. Please give me an option in solo tPvP to never have to play this map again. If this map pops up in tournament I just turn off the PC and wait for about 10 minutes to log on. I absolutly refuse to play this map ever so in order to keep others from playing a lopsided game it should an option to play, even though I know I am an ahole for popping off till skyhammer is over, but I really don’t care as long as I NEVER PLAY SKYHAMMER EVER AGAIN, that F*@%ing worthless, no talent, map.

You see times when 1 guy up in hammer room dominates 3 players?

Its because he out played all 3 of them.

Everyone is equal, they could all run his build and out play out skill the person that beat all 3 of you… Oh wait, everyones favorite site http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki doesn’t have any builds for Skyhammer.

Playing an AH or a meditation guardian will get you nowhere but you falling off the map when playing skyhammer.

If people runned the builds that the best players run on Skyhammer they wouldn’t easily be 1 shotted or lose in 3v1 situations.

Thing is people that have good builds on Skyhammer don’t show off there builds, so the level and skill gap is massive.

If you ask me, a skilled player should be able to take out 3 unskilled players. Skyhammer allows you to do this and that why I like this map more than the other maps.

You ever play a first person shooter? How 1 guy is so good and he never dies, I believe same should happen in GW2.

Edit: 2 things why people hate Skyhammer
1. Everyone copies builds and if this site http://metabattle.com/wiki/Category:All_Conquest_Builds doesn’t have a Skyhammer build than they aren’t likely to be able to get a Skyhammer build.

Which leads to players getting 1 shotted and not being able to effectively play on this map and leaves them hating because they getting owned by skillful players all day long.

2. GW2 developers made a recommendation that happened during Spirit Watch time, where they would allow you to quickly change from build template to build template because Spirit watch was another map that made you want to modify your build so you can run orb….

Due to lack of GW2 developer motivation/commitment no such action was made (a year later).

The issue with pvp in GW2 is that it lacks depth in some cases. To increase the influx of quality pvpers (guys that are the building blocks of your pvp game) you need to increase depth and skillfull play.

Skyhammer like one shots are the direct opposite of what this game needs.

Dominating on skyhammer is far to easy…even with the changes. Look at this screenshot from my main account from a few mins ago. Yes it was 5v5 all the way…and we even had prince vingador (so it was basicly 5v4 in their favour).

You look at good players, Euratien and Stunningstyles. They are not getting 1 shotted. They are the ones doing the 1 shots.

Why? Because they know how to make builds, the people being 1 shotted are bad players who are using meta builds that aren’t meta on skyhammer which allows them to be 1 shotted by good players who know how to play the game and change there builds so they can skillfully play on a map like Skyhammer and skillfully 1 shot newbs into ragemode.

Why does Skyhammer need to be on WTS? So newbs can copy meta Skyhammer builds, which today there are none in existence, but if they see what the best use on Skyhammer, they’ll do a lot better copying there builds.

1 shots are never good.

I dominate on skyhammer….i dont hate it because i die on it. I hate it because one shotting ppl isnt a fun way to kill someone. It doest feel like you achieved something when u pull someone down during a clusterkitten.

so much this, it doesn’t feel like you actually accomplished anything when you pull, launch, or fear someone to their deaths. its not even skillful really.

Edit: and for the record, i roll a rifle engi in pvp- and i knock people away from the edge on purpose because i believe the one-shot kills are utter trash. my kill count ain’t high, but at least i know i played fair in my mind.

Actually, there is one good thing about having skyhammer in solo queue- it makes me stop playing. If it wasn’t in the rotation I would probably just play all day.

And i stopped spending money on this game. Why would i if that money is used for projects like skyhammer.

Good players know how to change builds to make this map a fun map rather than players who don’t know how to change builds and hate this map because they often find themselves in the pit because a good player put them in there place.

I’m sure if you ask any good player that switches his build to a Skyhammer type build if they like Skyhammer they will tell you “YES, LOVE IT!!” because they are the only ones that change builds and henceforth only ones that dominate in the hammer room and the side nodes because other dumb people too stubborn to change hence why they hate Skyhammer.

When the #1 pvp build site http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki doesn’t support Skyhammer builds than guess what, average joes are just going to continue to hate it, and guess what the pro’s don’t care to make a Skyhammer build because if they do and post it to the site everyone will run it and instead of them making your life miserable owning you all day, and them themselves happy as can be because they get an easy win, it will be the opposite, they wont get easy wins anymore because everyone is on the equal playing field.

This is partially due to anet’s fault too, because they are the ones that mentioned a system where you can change builds with a click of a button, but failed to follow up and actually create it. Pro’s can remember what build are what, but average joes have to go back to the website http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki to check up on everything and make sure everything is correct. You should just be able to click a button, PvP builds, click on Skyhammer, Skyhammer build activated.

When I came back to pvp I really thought that was what the PvP build tab was created for, but I was disappointed, its the samething you did before, just put on armor and accessories, nothing else. Same as going to the hero tab and doing same thing.

That was not the only thing that disappointed me when I returned, many of you already know what else disappointed me. Matter of fact, these nerfs to Skyhammer disappoint me too. Should be opposite, should be glkittenters real fast, to encourage fast play rather than slow play.

What they are doing to Skyhammer is what they have done to hotjoins. Nothing but a slow and painful death. Skyhammer was once very fun, but now its starting to become dull and boring with all these changes.

(Again, not 1 Skyhammer build on this site http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki, yet Skyhammer has been out for around a year, same with no Spirit Watch build, people are seriously slacking, that site isn’t reliable if it doesn’t cover at least 1 of those builds… Goes to show, even with spectate, theres no Skyhammer/Spirit Watch builds, WHY??? Because its not in team que, its not on the tournaments, hence why nobody knows how to effectively play on those maps which makes people hate them. None of the people, people look up to care enough to help the community out and like such maps because they enjoy getting easy wins on solo que through those maps)

Even with the amount of changes to Skyhammer there is still the same amount of B S in everygame of skyhammer before and after patch. Skyhammer is …. uh….. a literal troll map, I can not even fathom what the devs were thinking when designing this map, it seems they completely ignored a lot of important aspect of gw2 combat, which would mean they made this map out of impulse of ignorance. I can understand your reluctance. I’m not proposing to add Skyhammer to the teamq map rotation straight away. But imagine it was the theme of a tournament: the Skyhammer Cup, or whatever. Surely top teams would give it a try, and we would get to see interesting ways of playing on this map, and what kind of builds/composition works. Even if Skyhammer is never in the teamq rotation, it would probably improve the way we play on this map in soloq, don’t you think? I don’t know who you are, but if you are not one of the top players you would not even participate in such tournament. Again, I think the main problem we know have with this map (the pulls/knockbacks are less frequent since the recent changes) is that we are afraid to adapt, to go out of your comfort zone.

On an unrelated topic, I’m by no means a high tier players, but I think you hold them for more close-minded than they really are.
