So Mesmer Lockdown
Why play this when you can play Terrormancer and do 10 hits of fear for 12k damage and have every other condition burning them away at the same time while having the counter for the counter of fear turning into more fear.
I’m using something similar but with staff to great success, altho i run decoy instead of portal to make my life easier with thieves. Been thinking about using null field too..
Also i think helseth is also running this already?
GW1 Mesmers didn’t have ranged, instant-cast 1-second-duration Blackout that doesn’t cost energy.
GW1 Mesmers didn’t have “Press button; receive instant high damage AI minion that auto-targets for you.”
GW1 Mesmers didn’t have instant-activation, passively proccing traits that make instant-activation ranged Blackouts even more powerful without any cue.
GW1 didn’t have stability.
Stop deluding yourself. You’ll never see GW1 Mesmer again. Just keep playing your Summoner with its overpowered instant-cast abilities.
Yeah this isn’t a new idea per se, lots of discussion on this trait spread in the mesmer forums:

This the original post where I first saw the build idea a few months ago:

Since then it’s taken some time to gain steam but you’re now finally seeing it bleed into the meta a bit. Whether it will firmly find its way into higher end team specs is a question, but it’s a powerful spec to be sure.
The skillful interrupts available to mesmer are really relegated to the daze mantra, timely Diversions, and to some degree pushes/pulls with GS/Focus and sword #4 daze. Signet of Domination and Magic Bullet are unfortunately too slow to fall into that category. You could make a case for RnG Chaos Storm, as more often than not you’re going to get a daze proc when you drop it with the intent of interrupting an action.
Glaphen,
You make a good point.
Swagg,
Oh you righteous messiah of game devlopment, you. Go make your own game already so you can play it.
I love this build, Mesmer should interrupt and shutdown other professions just like in GW1. Watching animations and timing interrupts takes a lot of skill. This is how Mesmer should be all about “SKILL”. I’m one of those Mesmer that value skill more than anything, and refuse to play anything but (SHATTER), which is ridiculously hard in this bunker condi meta. I despise phantasm Mesmer and I think they should be removed. Bring the old GW1 Mesmer back Anet.

I actually play this build but with null field and condi/boons exchange and staff instead of sword/sword (srly having the ability to remove so many boons is incredible)
I really enjoy this build. But I personally find thieves and engies more annoying with this and end up going back to #shatter4lyfe so I can just kill them and be done with it. Although I won’t rule out that I could just be terrible with the spec, I intend to play and practice it much more tho.
@ghaleon: here, here down with low risk/high reward Phant!
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
No, no, no, no… I don’t want any more cheesey meta specs that rely on a single mechanic involving badly or entirely untelegraphed interupting skills for winning.
Making the meta any worse than it currently is won’t solve a thing.

This is not gw1, get over it.
