Is the only counter to take out all the spirits first?

Im not here to cry, but this build does seem extremely unbalanced considering the last 4 tpvp teams ive faced have all been premades and they have all had a spirit ranger build, sometimes multiple.

Im just looking for a solution, because that builds just the most face roll ive ever faced, I have trouble with some builds, which I accept is generally because Im just not good enough, need to l2p, or am just countered well by it, but ive played a fair amount of tpvp and this just seems ridiculous.

Any input would be very helpful,

Two questions…are you guys losing due to kills, or due to the points from the capture locations? And if you are losing due to capture points, are you all zerging to one point after another?

advice:
-if your a necro, lay aoes, they will die pretty quick
-the actual active skill rangers use from spirits take forever to cast so it’s easily avoidable)
- do what you’d do against any other condition class….remove/reflect conditions and they can’t beat you if you play smart enough (they don’t have burst)
- know that the spirits are only giving burning for and protection to the ranger (the third spirit if it’s being used, will either only be swiftness or 10% damage increase which for a non bursting class isn’t something OP)

Which profession do you play? Spirit Rangers aren’t that strong. They are good, but “the most face roll you’ve ever faced” just seems odd.

I apologize for not providing adequate info.

I run a scepter dagger ele burst build. I feel the main problem is thakittens single target based and the ranger build seems to have too many evades and heals for me to burn through.

We are losing due to points from capture locations.

We do not zerg, we generally send our necro and guard mid, the mes far and whichever pug character we have home point, with me roaming, generally between far or mid at start of match.

Ahh, so they’re using the bunkers to guard the points…very smart on their part. Is the ranger himself doing all the damage through his weapons, is the burning from the sun spirit doing it, or is it the pet? Because whichever one is doing damage will tell you exactly where the rest of his trait points are, since he most likely already has a full 30 points in the Nature Magic traitline, so he has a high HP pool.

to be honest im not quite sure because of all the pets and stuff running around but I believe its a mix of the burn and his pets, the rangers seem to generally just evade the whole time.

I don’t bother with the other Spirits apart from the Giant bluish Rez spirit. You must remember though, the spirit that gives them their damage is the orange one. Destroy that and you reduce their damage by a lot.

Apart from that, you could just focus the Ranger and time your damage for when he isn’t dodging and you’ll do better against them.

Hit pistol whip on ranger. He stops moving spirits get cleaved as pet goes behind you. Literally they die after two of them or 1 and some auto. Brb no damage since evade frames. Get lazy spam auto. We are on foe fire abuse los on waterfall and quarry. I still think spirits need better range so you can place them away from the fight and not take the unbound trait which forces them to die in cleave. Maybe the ranger takes flame trap as well or that was bonfire barely pay attention because it doesn’t even matter.

Its literally AI that never leaves their side it is cleave heaven. If necros weren’t such a priority target this would be even more obvious for everyone. Unlike minions and illusions spirits don’t seperate from their master, every time you nuke the ranger the spirits get nuked.
You don’t have to aim for the spirits just take them out simultaneously not like they’ll dodge.

So the orange one also provides its burns? Because as a glass ele with 0 points in water, my 11k health pool, armor, and condition removal are near non existent and I really need to clear that burn.

Sub note, when you say you generally just target the bluish rez spirit. Is that because it provides the majority of its passive heals?

Yes, the sun spirit provides the burns. Watch out if he has the Stone Spirit, it can immobilize you. It has an animation though so you should be able to dodge it.

If you don’t kill that spirit they will use it to revive themself. In addition to it passive heal that will also increase the other spirits longevity.

haha and hear I thought their real pet was the only thing that could rez them, alright, thank you for the info, I will attempt to put it into practice and come back if I have anymore questions.

I’ve never played or fought a spirit ranger, but I’ve done a whole lot of things like that:

Turret Engineer: Destroy the turrets and the offense/control potential of the Engi plummets.

Spirit Weapon Guardian: Destroy the spirit weapons and the supplementary offense/control lowers. Not as severe as turret engi, but still something to do.

Minion Master Necro: Destroy the minions and the Necro becomes a big bag of HP.

I think the only class that this doesn’t work on is Mesmers, since they summon clones and phantasms quicker than you can kill them. From what everyone else says, I’m assuming that the spirit rangers follow the same logic.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.
