My burning questions would be why blind was basically made exactly like aegis except infinitely more spammable and across so many skills/traits compared with aegis? Also please inform them that blind affects warriors SIGNIFICANTLY more than other classes and that their brand new trait cleansing ire is completely negated by their buff to blinds.

Also regarding warrior I really hope you mention the points I brought up in this thread because it basically sums up all my opinions on the subject.

The thing I find really missing in the game is class cohesiveness, what I mean by that is for example Matching up skills from different classes to form your group not what classes are the strongest.

Key example is say ranger spike in gw1 or Smiting in gw1, If a necro gave melee attacks or physical attacks to its group members that may help warriors stay alive better, also give more options for rangers. I think the talents and skills that currently do that are vastly underpowered or restricted by range and viability. Spirits for example the range is bad the survivability is bad .

I think if that area of the game was worked on more you’d see more interesting team designs and a different way of balancing the classes.

No, thank you for helping to put the word out regarding warrior problems if you do, because it’s apparently a crime to invite a warr specialist into these extremely publicized direct conversations with anet.

Mostly I beg you to talk about the appalling dissonance between warrior’s risk-reward design compared with the other class though, that’s a huge one.

1. Why did you so harshly nerf rangers? Now they are bottom tier and probably the weakest profession now.

2. It is clear Necromancers are insanely overpowered, with the newly buffed weakness and better use of fear they are dominating PvP. Any plans for hot fixes?

3. For ‘better build more diversity’ you appear to completely forget minions exist for the necromancer, care to explain?

First BIG Question; will they be addressing Blinds and how devastating they are now against certain classes?

Question for the Warrior’s new Sword Main Hand #3 Final thrust; do they think the cast time is too long/the cooldown is too high?

well I’m not going to say what I think is better but I was looking for ranger spec’s on the spvp servers just going to several different servers to scout people in spectator mode. There is so many necros, guards, mesmers and theifs after about 15 servers checked I found like 5 rangers.

Let me tell you this The only class I’m going to play in this game will be ranger, but I’m not sure how I am going to kill a good player with a good class right now. The ranger utility skills overall are fairly sub par, shouts are bad spirits are bad, Signets are ok. I just don’t know what I bring to a group that there isn’t a better choice for.

2) when will we see pets that can hit moving target aka are able to hit while moving?

1. Is Shared Anguish (Ranger trait) ever going to absorb Basilisk Venom like it is supposed to?

2. Will we be seeing a decrease in necro survivability to offset the buff to weakness and the blind fix?

3. Necro’s AoE condition pressure is probably the highest out of the more notable condition classes (trap ranger, nade engie), why is it that is can compete on the same level as these while also not being a projectile (immune to projectile reflect+destruction) and its effects appearing on the ground limiting the ability to dodge it while having little to no “tell” as to which mark/well/aoe that is being cast?

4. Why are engie poison nades still appearing as friendly when they are on the enemy team? (most annoying bug)

5. Pets have a really stupid AI when it comes to survivability and counterplay, is there ever going to be something done so that they can properly deal with the following effects: (Bear in mind this is while pet is targetted) Necro condition transfer, Necro epidemic, thief offhand dagger cloak and dagger, Thief pistol offhand blind field (melee pets).

6. Downed state should still display conditions on the player (for blind mostly). I guess this is more of a statement?

7. For Ranger’s please display their pets conditions for the ranger to see, we shouldn’t judge this by watching HP chunk down.

8. Is the ability to increase the duration of fears through condition duration and stun duration an intended mechanic?

Why are ranged and condi builds so much more dominant then melee builds? Trying to play a melee warrior build in this game with all the spammed aoe, condi and blinds is just an exercise in frustration.

1. Necromancers are very overpowered where it stands, are there any plans of fixing that? (Maybe change the Burning trait to 2-3 stacks of torment?)

2. Engineer’s Elix R nerf was really overdone, why didn’t you just CHANGE the toolbelt skill to make it less OP? Now Engis really suffer from weak Stun-breaks.

3. Overall Engineer survivability lowered MASSIVELY with multiple patches (elix S nerf, Sheild 5 nerf, elix R nerf etc), address the issue plz?

I would really like for them to speak to a representative of the warrior community and not someone who has experience by association towards the class.

Underlying issues still have not been addressed to the one dimensional nature of the warrior class.

Basically I would like a laundry list of their justifications for making the changes they did and didn’t do. One of the biggest things currently is Cleansing Ire, blinds that severely impact warriors and using burst skills that miss yet go on the full skill cooldown ( an issue that has been around forever ). Seriously, if they are trying to be careful with warrior so they don’t make it OP they are kidding themselves, you would have to radically change things to even come close to that.

I swear if they say “in BETA…” one more time…. warriors have very little self upkeep and the excuse for heavy armour and high health pools is the biggest load of kitten. Pure mitigation through blinds, stealth, invuln, teleport will always trump mitigating a small amount of physical damage no matter how you look at it.

Clearing conditions through gaining adrenaline would be something that could be looked at as warriors would need to actually spend it continuously as they have stated that us holding on to adrenaline is not what they really want for the class. It would also bring extra viability to dual wield specs and also help counter the issues of F1 burst abilities going on a FULL CD even when missed, and spending adrenaline to clear poison to only have our heal do as much after we clear is as if we were poisoned. There is also the issue of our only real viable elite up to this point Signet of Rage being stolen, stripped or corrupted the instant we use it, and that a group fight in melee especially on points ( where warriors should fight ) is actually the most hazardous area a warrior can go and many prefer to sit back with a ranged weapon than have condis dumped on us feared and cc’d faster than we can clear.

This was only really off the top of my head but to be completely honest my guardian is better and my warrior in every single way that it becomes difficult to justify playing my warrior. I would like to actually play my warrior that I have over 2000 hours on and 4 legendaries bound to it.

The warrior community have been exceedingly patient up to this point…..

Sure hasn’t been necros are op and class balance and kitten.

What you need to talk about is solo que.
Matchmaking while solo que. 4 thieves on one team against a balanced team? Oh yeah they do awesome matchmaking. A team of 2 guilds vs a full solo que oh yeah they couldn’t have possibly thought to move one of those guilds to other team. They need to stop with this your group is que’ed up, they need to implement grab 10 people THEN you kittening matchmake, I don’t want to see that menu pop up asking me if I want to leave group, I clicked solo que for a reason, I DONT GIVE A kitten WHOSE ON MY TEAM JUST MAKE IT BALANCED. If I got a kittening rank 1 on my team, the other team better have one as well, none of this 2 rank ones on my team bullkitten.
Ragequitting solo que’ers (obviously people don’t ragequit in premades unless its a random pug which rarely happens)…. So punishment for leavers.
Leaderboards still have issues.

Read the forums, if you pay attention to detail you see this stuff come up every god kitten week because its not being properly addressed.

Too many premade homeboys in these SOTG, solo que’ers get nothing, you wonder why the pvp community isn’t big? Because it aint solo que friendly. Theres only like 5% pros and rest are randoms, the game isn’t addressing the 95% of the community, hence why pvp is pretty much empty. Ok well not empty but its same people over and over again, those people that are new don’t stay here for long because its not a friendly environment. You ask them to go hotjoin? THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS. See the attachment. You think newplayers to pvp enjoy being farmed? If you pay attention to threads you see people bicker about being farmed and how not fun it is.

So sick of these premade top 100 leaderboard players in sotg and theres no one to represent the solo que community, I don’t really consider ostrich eggs solo que’er anymore, he got too many friends, he may not have a team but he’s got people offering him groups. I bet hes probably like zoose right now, you see zoose video he was interrupted like over 10 times. No hate for those guys, but if you haven’t been in the % since these last few weeks you aint a true solo que’er because right now its super kittened up!

Just to let you know I don’t want to hear talk about professions for 30+ minutes, talk about actual PvP stuff, you guys need to realize that the balance developers do balance and not the pvp developers. The more you talk about balance the more they will kitten up stuff, the more you bring up stuff like solo que being kittened up and premade vs solo que bullkitten and that bad matchmaking solo que bullkitten the more of a priority they will make it, as well as bringing up things about new maps and rewards.

Mention to those developers that the MIM guys that don’t play anymore are still top 100 on leaderboards, that 18 wins guy is still top 10, that 13 wins guy is still rank 16. Ask them how they think there leaderboard decay is going first than slam them with that kitten.
Leaderboard decay my foot. Sure in 1 year they will all drop off leaderboards and I wont be here to even notice it.

You see the 2nd image, that team I faced was 5 guardians originally, bad matchmaking is obviously what triggers someone to ragequit, and needs addressing. and matchmaking is seriously needed in the solo que department, if there is a reason why theres not enough people for solo que match that’s because people quit after a bunch of poor matchmaking like that. And trust me I know there are a bunch of solo que’ers out there to have a solo que vs solo que match.

Yeah Daoshi I will be talking to them about warriors. We’ll probably go through each class to be honest.

I’m sure we will also talk about weakness and blind.

Taym, I think in their eyes, many of those issues are low tier, but when we cover rangers I will mention them in general, like pet AI for example.

I just finished my Mist League games so I’m pretty exhausted, but don’t fret! I will be reading the thread often over the next few days up until the broadcast, so keep posting! I’m writing down a lot of notes for each class and general stuff.

*because they dont need to make new code for it we already have it ingame now with normal tournaments when they would disable groupjoin – so whats so hard to implement it?

3)how bout bringing new gamemodes for hotjoin only? Cause areanet guys said they had alot more modes in alpha/beta but decided to go with only one for balancing reasons. How about bring them in for your playerz to can have some fun and let the ones we have for tournaments only?

4)let PVPers craft pets^^ – the blue ones and maby pets only craft in pvp but can sell them in pve

5) i would love to have better combatlog and maby analyze tool

6) plz rethink CC´s ingame – in beta you guyz had the philosophie “very short CC´s” cause ppl dont like to be CC´d forever

Over analyzing actual pvp combat with every profession build ei? That would be the day which I hope happens. I don’t think they truly invest enough time in pvp to see what really needs work. I understand where you are coming from because the Spvp community is really small seeing the same people in hotjoins / Tpvp.

1. Classes are too independent. There is nearly no synergy between them.
Is there any plan to make teamwork actually reliable in this game?

2. They told in 2012, they would fix AoE and its impact on conquest. Till today, AoE is still the most effective form of damage. Are they still looking into this?

3. In February / March they talked about bringing incentive into this game. There is still no real incentive for casuals nor the competitive scene. How they gonna plan to create this incentive? (via titles, tournament-rewards, unique items, real soloQ ?)

Will the Spirit get a Line of Sight check (Spirit->Downed Player; not Ranger -> Spirit) for Nature’s Renewal anytime soon? If left like it is you can just hide it for example under the clocktower behind the keep and rezz people on the spots.

2.) Shadow Trap

For now the Shadow Trap isnt working that well. You often only get teleported 10 yards expect you set the trap on specific positions that you searched beforehand. Will the pathing/teleporting issues be fixed or will it stay like this? A range indicator for the 10.000 yards range would be great too, so we actually know when we get out of range of the teleport.

3.) Combofinisher not working properly?

Will damage break Stealth? Right now you can Heartseeker + Steal through Blackpowder and still be in stealth after dealing the damage.

4.) State of the Necromancer

How did the Necromancer Buff work out in your opinion?

5.) New PvP-Rewards?

How is the progress on the new rewardssystem? Any eta on that? Any details how it will look like?

1. Is this ok that necro can now make almost 4 second fear chain with doom, staff#5 and spectral wall? Isn’t it op to one class to have so much control? (my main is necro)
2. Why we’ve seen Automated Response (Grandmaster engineers Alchemy trait) nerf? After Elixir S nerf, and with new overwhelming condi burst builds, it feels that was last good party of bunker engi (on semi competitive tournament matches). Now it fells like engis have to take elixir for condi cleanse, because turret clear only 2 of them, and elixir gun doesn’t do much about it too.
3. Don’t Johnatan Sharp feel that they’re not making more builds viable, only making current builds useless, forcing us to make new builds and create new meta?

4. Why, again, all these nerfs were made to pve also? As a both pve and pvp player I feel like this nerf destroyed my hgh pve build, without giving my engi anything usefull for dungeons / fractals. Turrets and gadgets are still pretty useless there.

2 How should teams adjust to the new condi meta? Our first match in mist league today was versus a new doomfire necro + HGH + trap ranger. We melted so hard to the cleave and were caught completely offguard. I guess my question relates to amulets/utilities/traits to swap out on the meta builds.

We did manage to win our second match later in the day though so we’re trying.

1. Are custom arenas really getting deleted after not adding time in 2 weeks? Why can’t they just remove it from the browser? People will think twice to buy them if these conditions are true.

2. The tournament NPC’s text has chaged to Rated tournament – unrated is coming? When? As we had paid and free, we need rated and unrated ASAP.

3. Will we ever get Skyhammer? Its been 3 months since it has got leaked.

1. ANet has said before that they are already working of new PVP game modes. Can you share any info about what those modes are or when they may be released?
2. Will there be any way, say through “Experience Jugs” (like Karma Jugs) purchased through Glory Points, to level the WvW/PvE version of our character?
3. Are the classes balanced with 5v5 in mind or some other setup (1v1, 2v2, etc.)?
4. Anet mentioned in a previous SotG that you’re working on ways for players without mics to communicate with teammates with in-game “cues.” Any more info you can share on this—how it’ll work and when it’ll be released?
5. Any upcoming quality of life UI improvements, such as, less tedious way of salvaging chests drops?

Ask them if they actually test the builds before they release them. The fact that we may have to put up with the current state of warriors for another month is ridiculous.

Is there extensive testing by a playerbase on all patches before they are released? Is there a test server I am not aware of? Perhaps they should look at installing community class representatives that have demonstrated their understanding of the class to test patches before they go live to let them see potential issues.

If anyone will know how to break something it will be the player base, never the devs involved.

Anet said they didn’t want to play whack a mole or have a knee-jerk reaction, but by not testing patches appropriately the same result is reached in the end.

Here’s some questions from me:

1. Blind was fixed but the fixed affected warriors quite harshly. Are there any plans to help warriors cope with blind so they won’t become totally locked out with certain weapons?

2. Is there any plans of improving warrior healing skills?

3. The new trait “cleansing Ire” was welcome addition to warrior class. Are there more plans to make similarly working skills/traits for warrior? This kind of mechanic includes new gameplay elements to warrior but against strong blind builds this causes some troubles to work.

I think that is all I can think of now. I’d be really glad if you were able to dig up an answer for some of these from the devs!

For taking the time to gauge what community questions are wanting to be asked.

To ask single questions about every class seems too large of task for the time frames allowed, so I will my questions simple.

1) Will the people/person at anet who oversees PvP/PvE skill balancing ever release the justification behind why changes were made? In guild wars with each skill balance the dev’s also posted every clear explanations about why they had changed the skill. To take a current question would be; Why did you choose to increase cool down on blurred frenzy and make it an evade as opposed to just lowering it’s damage by 10% and leaving its cool down as it was whilst making it an evade? This would greatly help players QQ’ing about things to understand why, rather than just read what changes have happened and not really know why.

2) Where on the priority list is reworking PvP rewards currently sitting? I have seen an anet member respond to this question before stating that anet felt the reward system was not proving satisfying enough for players and they were working on something..but when can we realistically expect to see this rework?

3) as player populations dwindle (As they tend to do over time.) It makes achieving some in game rewards such as dungeon armour skins harder to obtain. My case in point being that tonight alone over a 4 hour period I still haven’t seen one group attempting arah explore. Is there any consideration towards making dungeon items available via other means?

I am comfortable enough in the knowledge that no doubt others will ask persistently about solo join vs team/match making etc..we don’t another person asking this.

Just a clarification of why Blind as it is right now is absolutely disgusting from a Warrior perspective:

A skilled player will “use blinds in a timely manner”, except now “a timely manner” has just extended to “any time I’m not in range” (this is why the melee warrior is hit exceptionally hard btw) instead of “right before a big burst lands” thus lowering the skill cap on using blinds appropriately EXTREMELY SIGNIFICANTLY. And THAT is the core problem here.

Explanation of why new blind is hard counter for those defending it.
Old Blind
Reckless dodge could be used to clear my blinds.
Swiping before the skill I intended to use could clear my blind.
Swapping to hydromancy would clear my blind.

New blind
reckless dodge useless unless ure in melee range at end of dodge
cleansing ire does nothing except with sword since blinds make burst miss
auto attack does nothing if we are out of range. key words range for melee
hydromancy useless against it out of melee range
Most blinds come around 5 secs. if your melee and your being kited, you basically can’t clear the blind its duration.

Solution, tone down blind durations to like 3 secs max. Still will cause next miss. Promotes timely use of blind.
Why this is preferred solution? Ranged classes can still hit from range so random blind just stops one attack and does not hard counter entire class mechanics.

  • Cleansing Ire
    >Only change regarding this was cleansing on burst skill landing a hit
    >Conditions were exactly why burst skills can’t land a hit
    >Simultaneously buff blind to ridiculous levels
    >So now you need to not be crippled, chilled, blinded, AND be in melee range to cleanse blind BEFORE you can use your burst skill which cleanses conditions which would have been REALLY NICE TO HAVE before actually jumping through all the hoops to land your burst skill
    >Now that you’ve cleared blind through other methods Cleansing Ire has contributed absolutely nothing
  • Hammer, Mace MH and Axe MH
    Have extremely slow attack speeds for the first two, rendering them extremely ineffective when faced with a blind spamming class. And now with the Axe autoattack nerf, a random blind in the middle of your AA cycle completely moots any chance of landing the final hit where all the damage is loaded, making it pretty useless as well against blind.

I think a Kpop, Defektive SoTG would get high numbers.

Question: The necro skill Deathly Swarm, the blind on the necro is just transferred and it does not blind the Deathly swarm attack. For warrior burst skills using trait Cleansing Ire, can the blind be consumed or bypassed on burst skills so we can actually get the effect from Cleansing Ire?

I just want to point out also that classes represented on the SoTG have dominated the meta. It is time to get warriors so we can move up.

1. Classes are too independent. There is nearly no synergy between them.
Is there any plan to make teamwork actually reliable in this game?

2. They told in 2012, they would fix AoE and its impact on conquest. Till today, AoE is still the most effective form of damage. Are they still looking into this?

3. In February / March they talked about bringing incentive into this game. There is still no real incentive for casuals nor the competitive scene. How they gonna plan to create this incentive? (via titles, tournament-rewards, unique items, real soloQ ?)

This + When we are going too see more options to customize custom arenas to be able to try new game modes (Team Deathmatch, Capture the flag only on spirit watch, Kill Count, King on the Hill with only 1 middle point active)

My main has been necro since beta, I’ve played only that in PvP and PvE (occasional pre buff ranger or war). I like playing difficult stuff.

I today soloed 3 people in a tournament with my necro. Then I soloed and engie and an ele (ranked high-40s), they came to a far point I’ve been standing on and took me down only after they both were downed.

  • Has it been even tested? Did anyone take a look before the patch at how much easy and AoE condi/raw power pressure necro can pump?
  • I dislike Dhuumfire – it would help if this was changed to something, I feel too OP and everyone can just faceroll thanks to this – any plans?
  • Signet of Spite – this needs a split for PvP and PvE or some general balancing, seems blantly OP now
  • What about lowering AoE pressure across the board to make necros where they were before pressure-wise? – engie grenade pressure should be a little stronger than necro’s, taken the grenades are much harder to pull off.*
  • Doom needs a reversion to it’s previous state

It NEEDS TO HAPPEN quickly.

Do this or GIVE people things they can use to answer that

Hey guys just checking back in!
So I’ve read every single post so far and written down more notes.
Of course we are limited by time, so some of the things people have mentioned are lower tier, and we want to discuss more over arching themes. That said, I have written down as some of the top requested topics as well as smaller things spliced in:

General:
1. PVP Incentives/reward system! Updates?
2. The Oxy Moron of “Condi burst”
3. Did the change to blind and weakness affect certain classes more than intended?
4. How are balance changes tested?
5. Marketing push 2.0 after PVP infrastructure is fleshed out?
6. Other PVP game modes for casual play/hot joins?
7. Solo queue, leaderboard updates?

Class notes:
I have notes for every class, but some notable things:

Warrior:
1. Dissonance between risk/reward relative to other classes, is this intrinsic to their design?
2. Conditions! Especially blind now. – This is related to the idea that "warriors are just on the edge of being op, if they are given too many gap closers/condition removals.
3. The push for condition removal is good!

Necromancer:
1. Too much above average now?

Ranger:
1. Pet AI – both with spirits and pets.

Also I want to make note that people on SOTG aren’t chosen based on class, but just as top players in the PVP community.
In addition, I have more notes than this! But I just wanted to let everyone know I’m listening!
I know it will be hard for Sharp to answer some of these questions, but I know people want answers, and we won’t know if we can’t get an answer if we don’t ask!

1. When are going to see a revamp on PvP rewards/reward system? PvP rewards are extremely lackluster and players like to play this game, they just don’t like to keep grinding if it feels like they aren’t going anywhere.

2. Matchmaking. is kind of still off, you cannot play against a full solo queue, but you can still play against 3 solo queued players and 2 grouped players as a premade. Obviously this a technical difficulty for you, (I think) myself, and the community would like to know when.

3. Team leaderboards/Solo Leaderboards. When are we going to see these? Maybe when we can achieve a solo queue that queues properly but, a leaderboard that shows team names, and their W/L and rank, and maybe rating?

These should all be talked about in my opinion.
