Well, I’ve completed 14 achievements on Season III. That includes 4 profession achievements. Three of those; Necromancer, Ranger and Elementalist I pretty much had to learn while playing as I don’t normally play those classes.

I’ve fought through 30+ loss streaks, seen my win percentage fall from 50% to something like 10% at one point. Full time work hours have gone into struggling to achieve over a period of weeks.

Now, I’m expected to cross 3 divisions and buy wings. I don’t have the tickets for wings and there is no way I’m going to cross 7 divisions in the two remaining seasons. It’s taken me from day 1 to today to get to Sapphire T3.

I’m not good enough? I’m in the division I should be in? Then why should I play and give the elites cannon fodder to pound on?

It’s very clear that I will never win the wings.

So all that work is for pretty much nothing. THE ACHIEVES DON’T CARRY TO NEXT YEAR, SO THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE. I feel like I got led into trying an impossible task just to be another body in pvp for the elites to beat on.

Right now I feel I ought to give up on this game.

The Wings of Ascension item is supposed to work that way. Either you’re good at PvP and play fairly regularly and get it quick, or you’re not that good or play infrequently and it takes you a lot longer to obtain.

What he’s complaining about is that he won’t be able to get them because they are only available for the first 4 seasons of PvP (we are now in the second season), which is true unless he pushes to Ruby this season and the next 2 seasons.

Personally I don’t think that is too hard, getting Ruby in the next 3 weeks is doable, but he does seem to have bad luck and the MMR he has now should be fairly bad since he lost so much.

@OP – if I were you I would still try and push for Ruby this season, you already put lots of time and effort into it, you might as well try it until the last.

You missed the point. The achievements reset. This means that I’ve busted my kitten for nothing if I can’t complete the wings this year.

It also means that I’ve been chasing an impossible task. In fact, I’m told that it “should” be impossible.

On the one hand, anet doesn’t want divisions to be grindable. On the other, they require division crossing to get the wings.

If it is anet’s atitude that players should be stuck in “deserved” divisions, then they must intend that getting the wings will be impossible for a majority of players. This is true because of the division cross requirement. That being the case, there’s no real motivation for the vast majority to play. The system is self evidently created to prevent most from ever getting there.

i played very casually (in terms of playing hours) in both season 1 and season 2, i’m in ruby for both seasons.

no, i did not put in “full time work hours” like 8 hours or more per day, maybe just 1 or 2 or 3 ranked games per day.

many people grind-ed their way to ruby, diamond, or even legendary.

Why would the achievments reset? They didnt after the first season. Its likely they won’t reset until the NEXT legendary comes out. You probably have the next season as well to finish them if somehow you don’t finish it this time. I got most of my progress done in the first season and just polished off the alternate class achievments in this one.

It SEEMS like your under the impression that the achievments will reset after this season. I have seen no indication that this is the case. Infact as far as I know they won’t until the winter season comes again. Which is where the first legendary backpiece became available. And likely when the second will as well. So you potentially have ATLEAST two more seasons (the summer and fall seasons) to get it again. Unless arena net has given evidence to the contrary.

Edit: what this means is that even if you get stuck in a “deserved” division. By persevering and continuously trying you likely WILL get all the achievments necessary over the course of four pvp seasons. That atleast is what I am getting from this. What this means is that the top PvPers will get the legendary FASTER. But its not impossible for anyone else to get it. It just takes longer and more effort.

Edit 2: One of the ironic parts in all this is that I now have all the parts to make the legendary except for the gift of fortune. BECUASE I spent the last season and all of this season pvping I actually did not have the resources necessary to finish it. And I am now spending alot of time outside of PvP getting the mats I need in order to actually craft the gifts.

where did u hear that achievements don’t carry over to next year
even if that is the case I did read on reddit from others that anet would still have plans to allow players to acquire the wings at late stage

Hmm in that case he should be able to once the meta shifts once again. Right now there’s this apparent MMR hell thing he may have gotten stuck in. But anet will likely do something to change the matchmaking in the next season. If it IS his skill level. It means he has half a year to improve. As far as getting better at games go. Thats a LONG time. He could be playing like a completely different individual then if he keeps at it. Especially seeing as you never really stop getting better as far as I can tell (though sometimes you have to go for outside sources to find out what you did wrong).

Next one you would need to get to sapphire, the last season would be ruby. But anything can go in terms of meta, and matchmaking, for better or worse.

The legendary Vendor in HoTM explains that all of the items are usable only this year.

As to some of the other posters. If I accept that the wings aren’t meant for everyone.. that I’m not worthy; Then why should I play? Why should anyone play ranked unless they are elite? So that you will have opponents to beat? To keep population inflated so queue time doesn’t fly through the roof? What’s in it for me?

Why do you think you play against elite players, when you are in sapphire T3?! Please tell me! I’m in legendary division x1, still I don’t see much of elite players there either…. they are maximum normal players (see elite players in legendary x11, x7).
You don’t know what you wrote, you are a trash player, playing against trash players in sapphire, and you want the wing?! It’s a legendary wing, so if I’m in diamond and legendary in the hole season, then why should a sapphire hole season trash get the wing?! Then what’s the point being legendary? I wouldn’t press “Ready” until you’ve looked at your team and the enemy comp first. I look at both teams and see what classes we have, what we’re up against and if changing my class would be a wise choice.

Have you got a Guardian? A Medi Trap Guardian works pretty well. I’ve won a lot of games with it. I don’t know how you play Reaper, but are you making sure to position yourself correctly? Reapers need to stay at range, using marks and Scepter Auto Attack is great.

You can get focused down pertty quickly as a Reaper though, so it’s vital to stay with the team.

Why do you even care that much about that buttugly skin that brings nothing to the table? If you like wvw like me that I have news for you….bad ones, an ascended backpiece it’s the one that contribute the least to your overall stats, changing its stats won’t do much for you so…

Unless you swim in T6 mats ( which I don’t after 2 legendaries ) , I would not bother with the wings which are seriously ugly

I played twice against at least one and probably two members of PZ in Sapphire within the past couple of days. They were on alts. I took screen shots and posted part of them on another thread.

With respect to the wings; If I can’t get them, then what is the purpose of playing in ranked? Be careful how you answer. Consider this: If everyone who is not Legendary stopped playing because there was not an adequate reward, you would likely need to wait hours for a match. The reality is that many are playing for the wings, otherwise why put up with this matchmaking?

Are people really doing it just for the skin? I thought that it was because they wanted the stats of the backpack. I’m inclined to agree with you, about it not exactly looking that great to be honest.

It does strike me as strange that Anet would offer a backpack with stats, as a PvP reward. I thought that’s why people were getting angry, not because they wanted the skin lol.

If they are just wanting the skin, at least you can get the previous wings, that you need to get before the Legendary Backpack.

Don’t worry, next season if you cross all the way, you will get it. I’m in the same boat, because in season 1 I disliked the bunker meta and played only few games to 2nd division. On top of that I deleted the 1st wings so, now i need to buy them again

The League vendor in HoTM states that the various components will only be usuable for that specific year.

Ergo, unless one fully finishes the project within the year, all the work is lost.

OP calm down, the wing will still be available even after the 1st year is over, but it will be more expensive (ticket wise)

The problem is, that few on this forum understand the problem with the leagues, think out of the box yourself.

Are those wings are something special and reflects prestige? No, everyone who was smart enough and cared for the wings hard enough abused the system in s1.

People who faced the reality of not being able to crawl their way to certain devision, can now just pay someone to carry them. And that will work.

Wings by itself are not something prestigious, but people like you want to punish players who want to get them via legitimate ways.

I m legendary too, i don’t really care about the wings to force myself to play daily matches because of another problem: this season doesn’t deliver quality matches. And yeah i m one of those wierdos who is never satisfied.

The overwhelming majority of people who participate in amateur sports will never go pro or win an olympic medal. So why do they put so much effort into training and competing?

Presumably because they enjoy it?

OP, you’re mistaken if you think proper competitive players want to keep you participating just to lower their queue times.

Proper competitive players are motivated by enjoyable matches with serious opponents. Someone who isn’t enjoying themselves and is just there for a virtual shiny, isn’t wanted at all.

On a more practical level, if you seriously want those wings and you’re willing to do anything to get them, then rather than wasting your time playing pvp, instead spend your time networking and finding a team/guild. And working at a job to buy gold to bribe them to carry you.

Its not what you know, its who you know, and all that jazz.

It’s a legendary backpiece for a competitive game type. I don’t see why this is shocking to anyone. It’s not supposed to be for everyone. =/

I wonder if WoW players post on the forums for months about how they can’t get the Gladiator flying mounts and rated Arena skins, which make GW2 PvP legendaries look like a cakewalk. It’s kind of a thing in MMO’s.

I m just curious, is WoW suffers from population issues ? As for me and how i see it, they introduced wings to drag players into PvP or at least try it out. The question is how to make them stay or even do you / Anet want them to stay.

If they want to make wings/titles special, then they need to make it like in WoW. 0.5 % only from 1-2 million PvP playerbase able to get mounts/special season title. So in terms of GW2 only ESL players will be able to obtain anything from the leagues. And people will be fine with that. They just won’t pvp. Or will pvp just for the sake of competition.

I think it is so funny how everyone expects those wings handled to them for mindless farming. Oh no, why should i queue if i can’t get them. Ummmmm, pvp is player vs player and i think at the end players do it for pvp enjoyment/experience? The shiney visuals, reward tracks etc. are just extra bonus…… If you are doing pvp just purely for wings, then sry man you might have come with wrong attitude here. Besides if i wanted legendary armor i would need to commit so much into it and i couldn’t complain about it on pve forums, yet it is ok to complain about it on pvp forums, what?

Then again what else to expect from a guy that thinks that chronobunkers in season 1 were balanced and mained PU condi pre HoT kek.

I’m in dimond ATM and inorder to complete the achievements for Season II, I need to play a class I have no expience with and cripple not only myself but my whole team as well. I feel very bad for the other players on my team and thats why I’m not going for the achivment. I think I would have been able to grind the 8 wins I need for the achivment from being carried by others, I could have even place myself at the start of a division(as you cant lose divisions, so no pips lose and your MMR count for less in high divisions, as most of the players are solid, so no MMR penelty). But for the sake of my teamates I dont do that. I think they should change this flawed system which can be played around by punishing your team. Just give us more options, even grindy options…

you can swap profession before the match ends if your team is stomping them real good say 450+ vs 200+ just to be safe.

Seriously though, why do you think because you log into the game you’re entitled to receive something?

You have every opportunity to earn the rewards, but you have to EARN them. You can’t just show up and reward track your way there. That’s the way it should be.

Don’t learn professions in ranked, go practice them first. That’s your fault for losing so much.

You attempted to try a very possible task, whithout checking what the real requirements were, just to find out you don’t have what it takes to succeed.

You should give up on this game if it’s not fun for you. Period. Getting some rare wings has nothing to do with that.

Biggest thing that bugs me is that you keep trying to position yourself repeatedly as a defamatory punching bag for PZ players. Put in full time hours throwing matches on alt classes one week, and encountering a solo/duo with a good guild tag is the gripe.

Also, why you say S1 worked for you? You played full time then too, with matchmaking that pushed towards 50% win rate, and you had immeasurable lose streaks, and landed Emerald. So I don’t agree with your self assessment that you’re a medium skilled player, playing only meta builds. You are in the bottom 2% of PvP ability, I’m not going to tell anyone they can’t do something, but for how much you moan, I’m tempted.

It will be a really sad day for those that put the countless hours into learning their class and the game mode when literally every person can get the ranked PvP skin.

I wonder if WoW players post on the forums for months about how they can’t get the Gladiator flying mounts and rated Arena skins, which make GW2 PvP legendaries look like a cakewalk. It’s kind of a thing in MMO’s.

Considering that WoW has even more abilities to keep track of (making cooldown counting, downloading opponents*, and getting reads far tougher) and no active dodging I’d have to agree here. WoW was much harder in many ways but I haven’t played since Cataclysm. Alterac Valley and Isle of Conquest were very fun ;)

I want to see the OP upload a video. During an actual game we think we play much better and think we contribute more than we really do so it’s good to get objective. Some recommend for example that I should be more aggressive on revenant but to do so by necessity we need to be less stingy with resources (good bursts require energy consumption and putting stuff on CD) and giving myself less time to download the opponent (meaning get a feel for their style). In professional sports like boxing two pros get standoffish and take little potshots to see if they can create an opening as being too aggressive gets punished. That’s why I like autoattacking until I get a good read for an interrupt. I timed the staff 5 dodge just right to avoid moa. There are still many more tells on many more classes I need to learn if I’m going to improve more as a player. I still get moa’d a lot but I’m dodging it more often sometimes even in group fights.

I think they mean more aggressive though not too aggressive.

Unless you are an elite pvp player it it’s going to be a grind. I’m a below average player at pvp and should get the backpack early next season. The division track didn’t seem to reset between season 1&2. Also, if it was the last achievement you needed for part III it gave you credit for the first division of part IV too.

As for the loss steaks, you need to figure out what you are doing wrong. It could be the build, how you are playing it, or both.

Now, I’m expected to cross 3 divisions and buy wings. I don’t have the tickets for wings and there is no way I’m going to cross 7 divisions in the two remaining seasons. It’s taken me from day 1 to today to get to Sapphire T3.

I’m not good enough? I’m in the division I should be in? Then why should I play and give the elites cannon fodder to pound on?

It’s very clear that I will never win the wings.

So all that work is for pretty much nothing. THE ACHIEVES DON’T CARRY TO NEXT YEAR, SO THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE. I feel like I got led into trying an impossible task just to be another body in pvp for the elites to beat on.

Right now I feel I ought to give up on this game.

The wings are meant to be a skill-based legendary, not a 100% grindfest (although some grinding is obviously still part of it, as it is with all legendaries). And it’s not like the skill bar is set very high here: you need to be able to reach at least Ruby in 3 of the seasons, which is where most of the average and slightly-below-average players wind up by the end of each season.

And let’s clear one thing up: you’re not providing “cannon fodder” for the “elites” to pound on. You aren’t going up against any elites in Sapphire. You’re going up against (and with) other super-casual players like yourself.

I work an incredibly demanding full-time job that often involves international travel or going to trial, so I usually miss half of each season. Yet even I’ve been able to reach legendary each season. The only thing keeping me from my backpack is the “play 3 games a day” achievement because I’m away from my computer for much of the season.

I’d suggest learning 2-3 builds that can perform a variety of roles (e.g. reaper, tempest, mes), watching some good players stream those classes, and then practicing them in Unranked for a few days before you take them into Ranked. And since you clearly don’t understand the game that well yet, stick to the meta builds first (which have been tried and tested by much better players) rather than trying to come up with your own builds based on your limited playtime and experience.
