Temple of the Silent Storm test extended.
@ Raid: We do not consider Raid to be a tournament map at this point in time.
@ # of maps?: Right now we will do one map per week, so that teams can adjust to the new maps and get their builds ready. This will also allow us to see the meta shift week by week, based on the map. This is very useful information for us.

Yeah, we need Kyhlo now. Forest and Legacy need work before they can be interesting again after they introduced the Temple.

I’d rather play forest all day opposed to kyhlo, fix trebuchet issues or remove it all together.
I’ve really enjoyed playing temple, but I haven’t gotten a chance to do that many games so I guess it’s natural that people are ready for some other maps. Also, I hadn’t ever really played temple before this week so it was all new to me.
Looking forward to doing this for another week!

well i think if J sharp or J peters showed up in anvil rock they would get mobbed so badly that they would probably be traumatized and not want to design PVP anymore.
Biggest thing to take away – the format is moving from 8 teams to 2 teams. Other changes will also be coming. Watch for the blog.
can you also completely take 8v8 out of spvp, maybe just allow it in custom arenas?
I wonder, what, if anything do you have planned for free tournies?

1v1 is good, one map per week is not that good but isnt bad at all, but what about win gems in pvp? Pvpers never will win gems again?
I approve the Random Map Single Matchmaking Queue.

Great news. A lot of my guildies who are mostly good PvE players have now starting to show interest in spvp/tpvp side aswell. I’ve had a lot of good and even games in paids this week and this has helped me make quite a lot of new friends. Ofc we got roflstomped a couple of times, but overall the experience has been pretty balanced and enjoyable. Very good and close games, even with pugs. Though it seems all week of the same map has tired out some of the top teams. Our inexperienced guildgroup got totally demolished by TP guys in the final round of frees.

so now map rotates or not?
“Don’t criticize what you can’t understand”
New “1×1” paid mode? Do you really think it’s competitive?
1. Temple of… is a just bad map for any competitive. Atleast cause of 1 exit from respawn so anyone could spawnrape. Bugged camera @ middle point makes impossible to look up.
2. I hope you guys intend “elo”-points (or QP-points or smth else) and ppl will play with same elos. It was crap when 5-9 rank randoms lost versus premade like 15-500 got spawnraped and blamed all.
3. Would you change thieves? Kinda LOL i (necro, 26800hp, 2100 armor) die in 1 second cause of macroed thief.
So no competitve atm in spvp. Totally. Sad.
i dont like the 1 week rotation maps. i prefer system randomly gives you a map from a pool everytime you register to 1v1.
this way meta evolve, don’t letting him expect the map and abuse advantages.
Hello JonathanSharp.7094 ,
As a 100% pvp player i disliked at begining the change you did, but now seeing more new players getting into paids got me a bit horny that the game “might” survive after all.
But you need to understand that with those changes you gave us lets say “new members” into pvp ( paid tournys ), but you distroyed the quality of players attending those “premade tournaments”. Even with this in mind, i decided to try as much as i can to learn those new players to get better and grow this small pvp community.
And yes i am only looking at the “paid tournament” community, wich in my eyes are the players that will push your game into esport with our streams, with our knowledge, with our bugs report ( that you never fix ) and so on.
Also, i recommend you to fix the bugs, sploits, bad mechanics, whatever you want to call them, much faster or to actualy fix them. My team totaly stoped reporting till you dont start fixing things.
I’ve been speaking with alot of pro players from sc2, lol, dota, and trust me, they have no intention to even try gw2. I am trying my best to get them here or to tell them how good gw2 pvp is, but im sorry “mate”, this game have to many issues.
I hope you’ll read my post and understand the feelings i have, theres no need to respond or whatever, do your job, make us the best pvp game.

please add the fact that you win some gems when you win the match, because right now even if you win most of the games you will surely lose some matches, and at the end of the day you just lost your tickets without gaining nothing except useless QPs… I don’t want to pay real money to play the game
“Don’t criticize what you can’t understand”
Just one point to add: The matchmaking is a joke. Atm good Teams that win vs. good Teams get the same rewards as bad Teams pwning bad Teams… This means that you can’t figure out who is good and who not when looking for pugs, since every1 get the same amount of qp’s/glory or w/e… Pls make free to solo que, paid to team que (still 1v1, but w/o qp and gems) and add qp/gems to daily tournys with bigger roasters on fix times (for example every 8h a tourny so there is one in the evening for every timezone).. thanks!

This!
Take a random pool of maps and rotate, should not be to difficult to implement in the game and the best – you already got 3 maps in reserve
I don’t see how this could take 3 weeks – looks like you wanne win some time, or make us feel like there is a “big” change every week…
I’d like to repeat the notion that we should have random maps rather than just one map for a week. There are some cheesy compositions that require much less mechanical ability and coordination to play that are insanely dominant on a map such as temple of the silent storm (tripple ele, I’m looking at you.) while it would be absolutely crushed on foefire and forest. I’m not against cheese, it’s part of the game. But if you were playing sc2 would you want to face nothing but 6pool every game?
Biggest thing to take away – the format is moving from 8 teams to 2 teams. Other changes will also be coming. Watch for the blog.
Mr Jonathan Sharp,
does this mean that PvP players won’t get access to gems, opposing to PvE players? I don’t care about the amount to be honest but you took the PvP players the chance they had in getting any.
Maybe this post shouldn’t go here but I suppose Anet is focusing on this post more than others.
Really you people would moan about anything.
1v1 is about 10,000 times better than 8 team tournies. Here is why:
1, No massive queue times
2, You can play vs different people often
3, Matchmaking will only work with 1v1 system not 8 team tournies (obviously)
4, Keeps the maps fresh as a rotation of maps is way better than always having legacy 2nd for example.
5, 1v1 isnt a stupid time sink like 8 team is. This lets people drop in and play something which isnt lame like hotjoin, and yet doesnt take an hour out of their day to do (some people have things which come up in their lives)
6, Less tickets to enter means the community isnt artifically split on the basis of whether they think they should do paids or frees. There is no skill difference in built into this system, people self select whether they play paids – so the arguement that paids lets people have top tier matches is a complete fallacy. Matchmaking will result in skill based segregation which is what is needed.

I agree 1v1 System is much better the the old, it’s also much better for Anet to get the MMR Values up & running.
1 Week rotation is not good in my opinion, make it random, it would add so much more.
Or at least rotate on daily basis.
Also, later, a 2v2 system would make sense.
Winner vs Winner , Loser vs Loser.
Random map pool, 1v1 system !
You should also add better rewards, atm you can’t win anything but a QP where noone knows when its coming in handy. And probably noone but the “pro-teams” or rly good teams will need them if they are only for monthyl or weekly tournements.
Pls let us make some gold with spvp.

I can follow your thinking – but you should also try to follow the thinking other players have.
1) No massive Queue times – for sure that’s good. Queue times have been okay at evening times before aswell. At least since December!
2) I don’t want to play with different people – it is PAID Tournament, this was intended to be Tournaments for the ones who really eagerly compete in PvP – in my opinion this requires a core team which doesn’t change that often
And this is the main topic I guess what drives people to one or the other opinion – the quality that should be in PAID Tournaments.
Because this is also the reason I disagree on 6) PAID should be for “good” teams only – this is a mode that will guarantee that you face teams with similar skill. PAID shouldn’t be intended to be for everyone. And that is exactly the case now: Everyone is playing PAIDs and the skill level dropped dramatically.
I like that more people play PvP now (if that is really true) – but I don’t like that everyone is able to play PAIDs all the time and farm QP.
QP was the last thing you could rely on in terms of skill level (of course if you play more often you have more QP – but having >150QP in the old PAID meant you have good experience). Now simply everyone could farm a million QP – if you have enough time for it.
You cannot even see how good you are anymore because you are put on the map with a team of similar strength – you cannot even get a hold of how far you are from beeing one of the best teams out there by competing with them and seeing that you lack here and there. You cannot learn from them either.
PAID should be something that is only for very good teams – and therefore an entryfee is good!
I agree with you on one thing though: For non-core teams the game isn’t very friendly anymore – that why I would go to:
Hotjoin: braindead farming or build testen
PUG Free Trouny: Solo or Duo-queue for Tournys
Premade Free Tourny: Tournys for premade Teams
PAID Tourny: Only for high skill players
If it’s then 3 rounds or just 1 – hard to tell. I prefer the 3 rounds because simply winning one round doesn’t feel like a Tourny anymore… Beeing on Khylo in old PAID was somehow important.
Just my 2 cents

what bothers me if you guys keep the same reward system. At the moment everyone is sinking on tickets even PZ even CN everyone will lose a match eventually. If you guys want this game to become a real esport you must not force players to pay to play on the highest competitive level but earn it with their skill. Can we please have either double ticket as first place reward or gems that will be sufficient to keep it going? Ty
Ps: I am greek cant invest money in a game atm. Politicians suck

No because before the people doing paids weren’t special in anyway whatsoever. They were just the people who had teams and thought they “should” do paids. Doing paids often meant nothing then and it means nothing now. There is no skill check on paids when it is 5 tickets then or when it is 1 ticket now.
The worst player in the world could of decided before that he wanted to do paids and it wouldnt make him good. There was no skill check for paid tournies with the old system. People should stop pretending there was. The only check was “having a team”….which really is a completely fail way to get a game successful on a competitive environment. Holding a team together isnt easy and some people who have exceptional talent (way more than many in the top teams now I am sure) will not be given the chance to compete. Having a team means regular play times which are coordinated (which is hard if more than 1 or 2 of the 5 man team have a life), it means not falling out with teammates (have you seen guild drama – this happens a ton), it means all the team staying in the game (people quit games all the time). A team isnt really a good way to base competitive play.
More than any other type of game MMORPG PvP games tend to revolve around communication above raw individual skill level. When you run in a premade on TS its basically an auto win even against vastly superior opponents who aren’t on TS with each other. Thus, “having a team” is what makes someone successful in this game…which kind of sucks to be honest.
I dunno, I kind of agree with you but mainly I dont because there is no logic behind paids being this place for mega talented play under the previous system. It wasnt matchmaking. If you had a rating of +200 (not qp which again as you say = no indication of individual skill but just grinding – or often team grinding). Matchmaking solves all the problems. It fixes 90% of the issues with tournaments in this game.
Of course I would like to see a purely solo queue with rankings so we can see who the top players in the world are…rather than who can just stomp pugs in their team which shows no skill at all….irrespective of whether they paid 5 tickets, 1 ticket or no tickets to carry out this boring stomping.

I second this.
When will there be actual player one versus one’s? As in one player fights another, not a team of 5v5 doing one round. I know tons of people who love dueling but hate being interrupted by the random players who join the empty servers. The tpvp has been great with temple of the silent storm! Keep up the good work Anet!
what about giving us both 8vs8 and 1vs1 paids?
Agree with random map without rotation….and please, please….if it’s still there fix those ovehealing underwater downed rangers before putting roc in tpvp…
oh…and start banning macro users…..really annoying sometimes, you already ban bots right? So ban them all

I understand what you are saying – anyway I think the old Paid in some way lead to only good teams could play PAID consistently. Because you would only “get your tickets back” when you placed 2nd or 1st.
With Frees giving only 1 ticket not successful team were forced to “buy” tickets – and who does that for a serious amount of time?
I do understand that it’s sometimes hard to find a team – but for a teambased game this is simply neccessary to be successful. Do you see any random build soccer team being successful in any major league? Im sure you wouldn’t.
Better Teams are playing PAIDs then – the other teams (which don’t have to be worse 1to1 compared to the good ones – but simply lack teamplay because of different reasons) play Free which shouldn’t be PUG stomping!
With the new PAID you rarely loose tickets – that’s why everyone can keep playing it – no matter what skill level. Matchmaking will actually find you some teams which are equally compatible which will lead to an even smaller loss of tickets over time.
Matchmaking is fine for PvP and it really boosts fun for the most parts. For the very high end play though I find it destructive.
If PAIDs are for the high end teams then it should follow the known pattern which are successful (see tournaments where strong teams would rather get weaker teams in the beginning to make sure the final is really high end).
If not – we are lacking a mode for these teams.
BTW: Im not saying that me or my team belong to the very high end GW2 Teams out there! That’s not the case – we could see though, that we are good enough to compete longterm in PAIDs and we only lost against the really big teams – sometimes we even win against them. It was very clear to see how we could compete globally. With new PAIDs the transparency is worse.

Can we also get 1v1 free tournaments ? These are never popping when i do play and having to check if group is still up, if people didn’t go offline while waiting ( at least 30 minutes) is too boring..
I’m not getting rewards due to servor transfer bug, so i can hardly do paid tournaments and i can’t do free tournaments neither because of inactivity…
I don’t think 1 map per week is a good idea. Get random 4 maps tomorrow.. 1 map per week will fail for booring and lot’s of people will quit the game for sure.

Totally topic-related:
Is there a way you can publish this week’s qp leaderboards SEPARATELY along with the usual one?

Readin this i thought it was someone from CN or Crs. Then i get to the sig, and i see its Oops.
I am a mediocre player without a team, one of those guys who considered getting into finals of paid tourneys (8 team format obviously) a huge success. Yet, 2 nights ago, a bunch of guys like me, and me, beat your team 3 times in a row. And yet you talk about quality drop, and how paid should be only for “very good players.”
It is great as it is, we just need some visible rating (elo works the best, there is a reason its used in chess), which would solve your point of “not knowing how good you are”, and then tie rewards to these ratings somehow so some newbies who beat other newbies in their 2nd match ever dont get same rewards as teams consisting of “very good players” like Traq get for beating another team of mediocre players such as me.
Im not trying to argue, but i think i saw some needless elitist whining (without being elite in the first place, no offense intended), when what we have now is a kittenin world of difference compared to what we had a week ago.
1. Random map 1v1
2. Elo
3. Tie rewards to rating
4. Tweak the system
And it will be perfect.
If im reading these “signs” and tips properly, i think you may like whats comin in the next patch.
Cheers, and again no offense intended Traq,
