So we are nearing three years into Guild Wars 2, we’ve gotten some improvements along the way, but there still feels like there is a lot of stuff missing.

Queue times. Here’s a challenge developer’s, sit at your desk for a random amount of time, anywhere from 3-6 mins staring at your screen. Now play the game for 10 minutes. Stop. Now sit there and stare for 3-6 mins again. That’s what (un)ranked play is like. Add an extra minute on top for map chat.

Unranked. Why do we even have this? I get the idea behind why it’s there but is it really worth doubling the queue times? SPvP is not popular enough for this. Instead, why not…..

Add more server admin options. Give admins more rights and options to facilitate team games and allow admins to authorize additional admins so there is more coverage. Give admins the power to build sub communities. Admins should be able to do things like change the map, mute players across the server, disable secondary objectives, change game type, etc.

Map vote. Give hot join players the option to vote up the next map, get rid of this randomness while you’re at it. If 8 players vote for Foefire and 1 votes for Temple there should be a 0% chance temple wins. Majority rules. Hot join servers may also have an option turned on by the admin for game type vote.

More game types and maps. I realize you guys want to re-invent the wheel but please, stop it. STOP IT. It’s gimmicky and you’re wasting development time on things we don’t really care about. We are easier to please than you think. Give us things that you know will work. Give us things like GW1-type PVP AKA Last Team Standing. That would be a great, fast paced mode. How about capture the flag? (Team) Deathmatch? And no, not the courtyard team deathmatch where everyone is expecting conquest and getting stuck in a game type their build isn’t viable for. Having four map choices in ranked is so repetitious and boring, you have so many assets to reuse, do it!

VOIP. Not having VOIP in your game is having a much bigger impact than you know. The reason why the PVP community is so “toxic” is because you can’t jump into pug’s and coordinate anything. It frustrates the hell out of player’s to the point where the only thing they can get out quickly is insults. PVP require’s so much clicking it’s not realistic to expect team leader’s to write out instructions on what to do. What is the counter argument to this? “It’s expensive to implement” – free to play games have it, games over a decade old have it. It can’t be that challenging to incorporate. Is somebody being a kitten on the mic? right click + mute. Just like map chat, problem solved.

Detailed statistics. I don’t really care if it’s view able by the community, I just want pages and pages of stats to review.

PVP rewards. It shouldn’t be easier to earn dungeon rewards in PVP, but it is. I don’t understand why dungeon rewards were ever added to pvp to begin with, other than an excuse to not have to work on unique skins for PVP. Each game type should have unique skins. Doing so would encourage players to try out various game types.

In-game tournament options. This is a long shot but it would be a nice feature.

I could go on and on but really, if just the things above were added PvP in GW2 would actually be exciting.

I think Unranked and Ranked should be changed to SoloQ and TeamQ and the maps no one likes (Skyhammer, Courtyard, etc.) should just be fixed. I think the randomness in map choosing is fine so long as all the maps are fine. Besides that, I agree with you.

Dont disagree but id rather see other things come first considering xev resources. I joined a pvp guild thaf uses voice, and play unranked when i cant play with a team. I dont care too much about shinies, i got my characters to look like the thing i was going for.

Id like to see proper ladders if anything. Do something like sc2 so you have ur highest rank achieved and your current rank.

Stats would be nice however.

What are your queue times like Dahkeus? Mine are almost as long as the match itself, when you consider waiting for queue to pop, map selection, loading in and match startup. If you get bad players on your team you just wasted so much time for nothing. That reminds me, they need to bring /resign back.

@Wizland: They had something similar in GW1, except they called it Random Arena and Team arena. I think the problem with that setup was it took forever to get a match when you were a full team.

capture the flag like in WoW would be really fun also something like Huttball in SWTOR.. you know fun sport like things.

I don’t find the queue for unranked that bad usually, and the reward tracks are a clear winner, arguably the best reward system across the whole game.

I agree there should be more game types and in unranked there should be a choice for deathmatch like there will be for stronghold. I’m also not averse to changing unranked to soloq.

que times in this game are fine, i play other games in the genre and they have anywhere from 2-5 times the ques GW2 has, really no complaints on this.

unranked – this is the bomb, the fun, the bread and butter. ranked and tourney sucks major kitten. why ? cause all the kitten bags in it, playing ranked is like doing pve dungeons in the “zerker only” groups. unranked is pure fun. love it. that is why its there. also, i don’t give a crap if it doubles or triples que time of some of those kittens from ranked. the less of them in game the better, if they all leave, maybe then rest of us can finally play ranked and have some fun.

map choices – could use improvement but not a big deal. wouldnt waste resources on it better used elsewhere.

dungeon rewards are in cause they were unable to afford resources to make proper pvp rewards, and initially there were no rewards, so people quit the game mode alltogether. i would love to see some pvp unique stuff in place of dungeon stuff.

voip – nope. this is what TS, mumble, vent, skype, etc are for. again, no need to waste dev resources when something is already being used and done much better. only improvement i would make here is one i have seen in another game (i forgot which game it was) when you join/make a party there is a button that pops out which you can click and it connects you to a TS server with temporary channel for that party. once party disbands the channel self deletes. but i do not want anet to waste time on voip.

That was exactly what I was going to write about. They did nothing to the core game of PVP! Courtyard is really lame, everyone running around and zerging without head. Stronghold could be on a right track if everyone knew what to do. (it’ll take some time). New PVP skins are must! They should even add legendaries specially designed for PVP. And when it comes to Unranked / Ranked, can any of you devs tell me the difference? Besides you get different maps on unranked, there’s no any difference! Your leaderboards is dead for months! I know that you are working on new expansion in which I don’t have big expections, but you do have to realize that that can’t be the reason to avoid working the current state of game. Please spend some time improving PVP! Go through the forums and read what players want. It’s been almost 3 years since GW2 was released and we still don’t have 1v1 or 2v2 games. Pathethic.

Minority not getting crushed endlessly by majority like IRL is what makes the current in-game vote system near perfect.

I definitely don’t support “majority rules” map voting. The first thing that would happen is a guild would make a 5 power ranger team and vote as a block for courtyard everytime.

The potential for abuse is mind boggling.

As to playing pve while queue’d pvp.. yeah right. Are people likely to leave a world boss and the associated loot when their queue pops? Not a chance. The level of queue failure and wait times would be an order of magnitude higher.

I support the Admin options for Arenas.

As one of the Head of AG EU, its sometimes quite a hastle to find someone not only to admin an arena, but also is an arena-owner. Not an owner? Can’t make use of the commands.

VOIP is also something I would like to see into the game.
Having problems with noisy trolls? Just mute.
I’m 100% convinced there will be more serious players using the VOIP than actual trolls who would abuse it to harass. (which again, u can mute)

PvP rewards: yes and no.
I like the fact u can unlock skins/tokens and exotic gear as a PvP’er through the tracks.

But I also agree on unique skins per game-type. Which we have only for FoTM (weps/backpack) and PvP.

I’m not sure if the API for that would be easier or harder to set up than a full VOIP that’s integrated into the actual game. Also, consider that integration would just make it easier for people to actually use it. Ofc, give them a little speaker button or whatever to be able to mute people in their party.

Pug teams would greatly benefit from this, making PvP a LOT more fun. I’ve even seen this in mobile games, and it works freaking wonders. Would make the community less toxic as well, as voice and tone interpretation go a long ways in promoting empathy from other people. (unless you’re a total kitten ofc).

SoloQ’ers and w/e non 5 premade team WILL benefit from the VOIP.
We know about TS and other third party VOiP but think about players who actually queue solo or with a small party. They cant just quickly give their (personal) TS to randoms and expect them to be there under 1:30mins time..

VOiP is necessary for non 5premade teams to have an equal chance vs the 5 man premade as opponents.

Then the matchmaking can stay as it is; since everyone has the chance to communicate with eachother and cant use “5man premade with TS” as an excuse.

Alright now. Great original post… and most replies have been adding to the discussion well. I play both ranked and unranked, i personally play for maps. The entire leader board kitteners have not really been around all that much. Ranked has be fairly fun. Lots of great matches. I have been ubber busy with several projects at once; lucky to get a few matches in…out of only 9 matches in just the past 3 weeks..NOT a ONE has been a waste of my time. i guess i am getting lucky just solo queue ranked!?

STATS;STATS;and more stats…..sounds great.

All great ideas. Would be nice to hone them and get it wrapped up in a nice package we could keep pushing on anet

I don’t understand the point of unranked alone either.
I still queue there because there’s much less chance to fight against premades.
But then again, that was the whole point of SoloQ so, i really don’t get it.

If the goal is to give players the opportunity to train before actual tpvp, then by all means keep unranked, but give us back SoloQ.

I miss RA. Without syncers and with how the current matchmaking sets team comps it’d be pretty fun.
Although the mmr balance within teams often leads to some very disappointing games.

VOIP has very well known security and privacy issues. A popular provider who’s name rhymes with gripe is infamous for sharing online conversations with the government.
So, no I’d definitely not like to see this in – game as a regular feature.

PVP/FoTM only gear? Yes if it doesn’t look like a legendary. I busted my kitten to build my legendary. Why should pvp’ers get it almost free by comparison?

Majority rules sounds all well and good. There is also something called the “Tyrrany of the Majority.” It would be all too easy for a guild or otherwise organized team to vote as a block and keep getting Courtyard for example. This just has too much exploit potential. Besides, what do you do if two voting blocks choose two different maps? 5-5?
This idea simply isn’t well thought out.

Its true that there will be situations that a player cancels the que but if I remember correctly the devs said in this system of matchmaking if your Q is dropped then the players who accept and are still in the que get priority to the next game which I think can help lessen the effects of the leaving que when game already popped. Staying in HotM is alright because of the convenience of bank/TP etc.. but just gets way to boring not having anything to do even though I just spend my time reading till que pops lol.

I agree that queue times along with being forced to sit in hotm is a little ridiculous and is my main gripe with pvp. I don’t play pvp more than I do because I hate sitting in hotm waiting for queues lasting upwards of 10 mins at times. If you dare take your eyes off of the screen for a few seconds the queue will inevitably pop and you have to start all over again if you don’t accept within 20 seconds. I loved being able to roam wvw or w/e while I waited.
