I love how cloak and dagger + steal hit for 3-5 k each using a single button press and gives you 3 sec stealth…
A warrior eviscerate will maybe hit for 3-5k and takes 3 adrenal bars being built and a crit and give you…..an empty adrenal bar.
Warriors can also go into a state of invulnerable and still do damage, have more cc than a thief via knockdowns, shouts, and push backs. Also, this player specced strictly for Glass cannon. Locking them down would have made them useless and easily killed. He was just out played. It happens. Get over it and move on and work with your team as well…a team.
I’m not sure being hit for 18k is being out played.
The only ‘state of invulnerable’ is endure pain on a 80 second timer for 3 whole seconds.
So you get a thief starting his attack. Since there’s no attack animation or warning how exactly do you predict a warrior to use that 3 sec window to avoid abilities which take a button press to use. I’m all ears.
All those knockdowns and pushbacks and shouts. Now that you mention it, silly me!, i didn’t realise we had double everyone else’s utility slots! Here’s me been only using the 3 of them!.
First off, I was stating exactly what a warrior has. No need to be condescending as it is not neccessary and only shows your unwillingness to adapt.
Second, those 3 seconds can and will save your life as well as dodging away as theif’s time in stealth is finite and they must reach your back to pull it off and once out of stealth can be knocked down or force them to run.
This combo takes advantage of a player not being aware of their surroundings and naivety into thinking they are safe when you are NEVER safe when in PVP. It is extremely difficult to pull off and in higher level is very rare to actually pull off. Its fun on noobs though who sit there with a confused look on their face.
And to answer your question..watch your health. If he specced for stealth on steal he’ll use it first. Then back stab, then cloak and dagger followed by another back stab. That is how it is done. The way to get around that…dodge as soon as your health drops as they are going for the back stab which they have to maneuver around you to pull off. Don’t stand there. That is asking them to be able to pull off their move.

Also there is a reason you can switch your skills out of combat. Adapting to situations and being prepared wins matches. Blindly attacking something with no plan or idea of what you are doing is like trying to capture the wind.

The backstab combo is super-cheap. 1v1 it can be often avoided through clever movement/dodging/stunbreak, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s the cheesiest combo currently in the game. I’m not even calling for it to be nerfed (I rarely die to this as I’m fully tank/support specced on my Ele), but I suspect it eventually will be cause it’s a lame, gimmicky, one-trick pony spec and doesn’t belong. Only thieves using the spec seem to disagree.

Oh ok. I guess anyone not fully stacking toughness/vitality is supposed to fight every class OTHER than a thief without using any stunbreakers, because they need to save it just in case that backstab thief pops up.
This argument is BS. One can be extremely aware of everything going on around them, not “tunnel” at all, and still be jumped by another player character (of any class).
And again, i’m not really “crying” for a thief nerf, but agreeing that the backstab build is a BS, fotm, cheesy, gimmick build played by unskilled players. As soon as you blow up their combo (if you can see it coming), 90% of them panic and try to run away, they’re cowards and a scourge on the PvP landscape.

sad part is the high end burst on thieves arnt even the issue with the class…its the high burst AND stealth spam abilities…+ teleport spam if they have a shortbow …which just becomes a hassle when they can engage…unengage heal up to full rinse repeat
Can still generally beat a thief on my warrior hands down in a 1v1 but man its a hassle

Nope. Doesn’t work like that. Doesn’t really matter that counters are available. People don’t like 2 second TTK. Whether it comes from a thief backstab or a warrior hb frenzy combo or whatever else. It’s not fun game design and if you design a game with 2 second TTK you will find most people arn’t very interested in playing it.

You really need to learn the definition of what “One Shot” is.
Means you die in one shot. The thief does not One Shot someone. It takes two backstabs to kill someone in sPVP along with a cloak and dagger in order to make them vulnerable. The damage feedback log that pops up when you die? That thing just shows you how much damage a skill did. Not how many times you were hit with it.
And to point out..I was talking about the thief being glass cannon not the player that died to him. Learn reading comprehension please.
Also to point out…he obviously wasn’t watching his HUD or he would have seen his health drop from the initial steal or he would have known to dodge (if the thief specced for stealth on steal which lowers his damage output ratio).

Lately I have seen ppl in spvp just running around naked, jumping and /dancing. I guess we just found one of them, no other way thoughts numbers would appear on someone’s screen.

Oh and ever played dodge ball? Well if you can dodge a thief, you can dodge a ball. It works here.

Instead of wasting your time whining in the forum you should Play more, learn what each profession is capable of and specialy yous. Train yourself and make your own strategies based on your weapon sets (both) I use specific weapons vs some profession.

Reason why I bought extra character slots so I can play each class and learn them. Only one I have not gotten to 30 is warrior. Just feels clunky to me.
People just want things handed to them and they cry when they don’t see big numbers and want things buffed. Some classes are better duelists and are designed that way on purpose. Others are better in groups (elementalists for instance depending on weapon set). People are too focused on instant gratification and refuse to see the bigger picture. It’s disgusting and shameful.

This is the problem its just to kitten easy to blow someone up with thief. I jumped on one and ended up top in points nearly every match right out of the gate and I was using pistol whip post nerf. The mechanics need to be changed so that thief is as difficult to kill someone as it is with other classes. I have to go max tough and hp to survive on my Ranger but then I don’t do any dmg. Thief sacrifices nothing for its survivability and still has great dmg. How is that fair? At least make it harder to pull off these combos so I can actually say that it was skill that killed me and not a broken class that I am forced to tailor my build specifically to fight. I think thief is fun but even I can say it just felt to easy to kill people with it compared to my necro and ranger.
The ONLY issue I have is that reward should be proportional to skill-cap.
And it works, kinda:
Warriors are braindead in design (and most of us that WANT to play warriors hate it) but they are also complete kitten in high rank tourney play.
Eles have a very high skill cap, and seem very UP until you breach that threshold. Once the skill threshold has been made though they are gamechangers and have a solid spot (in a couple of roles) on a top tier tourney team.
Thieves however have an even more braindead skill threshold than warriors do yet the reward is insanely good for how mind numbingly simple they are.
And before you say it I paid for the extra character slots so that I could have one of each class to play and learn/rotate through. My thief is absolutely built for backstab and it’s absolutely rediculously potent for how forest gump simple it is to play.

You also have to take into account how difficult that combo is to pull off consistently in high skill level play against a moving target. Keeping you out of stealth is the easy part and hard part. Thieves are predictable. You can’t use your main attack (back stab in this instance) if you are not in stealth. Locking you down for a few seconds is usually long enough to kill a theif who is based solely off of back stab as they are like tissue paper…one hard blow and you tear right through them.

difficult to pull off?!? Seriously, it’s not that hard. You want a difficult combo, try RTL/updraft/ring of fire/Awave/Tooth/Pheonix/Firegrab, and that combo is harder to land, requires 2-3x the button presses, and inflicts only a fraction of the damage.
Also, this player specced strictly for Glass cannon.
Obi has already stated he was NOT specced as a glass cannon, although he was not fully specced into toughness (as an ele, if you spec all the way into toughness/vitality you do ZERO damage and can barely kill anyone, I know cause I run that spec.)
He was just out played. It happens. Get over it and move on and work with your team as well…a team.
How is one “outplayed” when they’re killed in 3 hits they can’t even see cause the thief doesn’t render until after the combo is finished?
This combo takes advantage of a player not being aware of their surroundings and naivety into thinking they are safe when you are NEVER safe when in PVP.
What if one is VERY aware, but otherwise engaged with another enemy? Anytime a player rolling a thief with this spec tells others “L2P, this is fine” they always assume the victim was just twiddling their thumbs on a capture point with 3 utility stunbreaks all off cooldown.
Seriously. The backstab combo is super-cheap. 1v1 it can be often avoided through clever movement/dodging/stunbreak, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s the cheesiest combo currently in the game. I’m not even calling for it to be nerfed (I rarely die to this as I’m fully tank/support specced on my Ele), but I suspect it eventually will be cause it’s a lame, gimmicky, one-trick pony spec and doesn’t belong. Only thieves using the spec seem to disagree.
You really need to learn the definition of what “One Shot” is.
Means you die in one shot. The thief does not One Shot someone. It takes two backstabs to kill someone in sPVP along with a cloak and dagger in order to make them vulnerable. The damage feedback log that pops up when you die? That thing just shows you how much damage a skill did. Not how many times you were hit with it.
And to point out..I was talking about the thief being glass cannon not the player that died to him. Learn reading comprehension please.
Also to point out…he obviously wasn’t watching his HUD or he would have seen his health drop from the initial steal or he would have known to dodge (if the thief specced for stealth on steal which lowers his damage output ratio).
You also know that the log shows the number of times you were hit with a skill right? Also, 2 backstabs? ROFL…learn to combo. basilisk venom, C/D, Steal, BS and end it with a HS if they’re still up.

Funny because it is in almost every other game out there. Slow gameplay = boring.
Agree 100%. The reason I play this game is because it’s fast-paced.
As far as thief goes, the nerf train is hitting it hard. Heartseeker → Pistol Whip → Backstab → Death Blossom (?)…there have been some Dancing Dagger complaints, too (and it is pretty awesome against two targets). Give it a few months and there won’t be much class left!

What you are seeing in this thread is people playing 8s and crying about the balance of the game when it is not really balanced for that type of play.
Any thief that goes that much into glass cannon is gonna get destroyed by a decent player that knows what the kitten he is doing. It is easy to predict/counter/avoid. The ONLY time you see that build is when people go pub stomping in 8s.

Globaled/One shot…My position is and will continue to be that NO profession should be able to global/one shot another. If you get globaled, you don’t even have time to dance. Sorry it’s too confusing for you.
Learn the meaning of One Shot. You and no one in this game was oneshotted due to a theifs skills in sPVP.
In the context of mmo pvp, globaled and one shot are synonymous. I can understand if this is your first rodeo. I won’t hold it against you.
Then use a different term for what you are actually trying to imply…you were nuked..plane and simple..not one shotted. One shotted means he killed you with one hit…nuked means he blew your kitten up. Plain and simple.

EDIT: And just an fyi..in every game i’ve played (MMO, RPG, and FPS) Global pertains to a map wide skill….and unless I’m missing something..no one has one of those. So your word choice is poor at best.I understand that this is your first mmo and thus you don’t know that globaling and one shotting are virtually identical. Let this be your first lesson, and to boot I’m not the OP…
Then choose a different word to phrase what you are trying to mean..use a thesaurus if you have to as no one in this game has a global/one shot ability.

I don’t have to choose a different word, in the mmo genre globaling is exactly what we are describing. Just because you are uneducated about the term doesn’t mean I have to dumb down the word I am using.
I love also how you are the one who is crying about staying on topic when it was you who was the instigator.

Actually I tend to be very polite. I can also call you an idiot without even saying and make it sound like a compliment but I would hate to resort to using big words you may have trouble comprehending. Now that was being rude.

Please refer to Teulux post as he summed that up quite nicely, and from his stand point I understand perfectly what you are talking about in the context you are trying to relay. Doesn’t quite work in this situation in my opinion but I get what you are trying to say.
