To hit Elementalists sustain.
Can we hit Guardian sustain too? Since 1v1 I can’t kill a bunker burn Guardian. That bunker Engi too. While you’re at it, nerf the sustain of bunker MM Necro too.

I don’t understand posts like this especially after the said class just got a significant nerf to condition damage, might and blinds.

Ele having sustain if they trait into water / warcane is fine. I don’t understand why we need to nerf that.
The issue was ( and was addressed ) that Fire gave by itself too much offensive power.

We’ve been nerfed to the point where nothing else beside celestial bunker is remotely “easy” to play. Everything else like Marauder staff or s/d and we get 1-shot all over the place by classes 3 times easier to play.
So please, no more nerf that end up just forcing us to go even more bunker. Specially now that all our might has been nerfed and that Tempest is the worse of all the new professions.

The thing with all those “fixes” and nerfs are that they force Ele to go even further to Bunker. Remember the Vigor nerf? It didn’t move people off Arcane. In fact, it made Water line and Cantrips even more mandatory. You want to nerf Vigor in Water? You’re just making the Arcane line more mandatory to get back the Vigor loss.
Put on a Marauder amulet and see how long you can survive. One Shatter burst from a Mesmer and you’re down. You won’t even have time to react.
Any D/D Ele build that use a glassier amulet than a bunker Celestial is just not viable. Ask yourself, do you see Marauder Staff Ele running around killing? No, they die in a few shot. Ele sustain without bunker traits and bunker amulet is very terrible.

I didn’t think it was the right nerf too. However, I don’t see why your proposal of also nerfing the Vigor from Water makes sense. It doesn’t undo the nerf in Arcana, and it only push people further into both Arcana and Water, and keep a Sigil of Energy. All the build will be locked up with your proposal.

I don’t want eles to suffer the same fate as thieves with limited viable builds.
More than anything, those 2 classes need a buff or at least get a nice elite spec with expansion. NOT nerf it further.

Sometimes I RQ because matchmaking utterly failed to group players of similar skill level.
Air needs a rework. Air + fire + arcane should be a bursty spec. Give air some quickness and more blind.

Elementalist doesn’t have any of that… they only really have their sustain. And they only really get said sustain if they trait heavily into it.
I wouldn’t really be opposed to nerfing it a bit. But I don’t think the problem is just their sustain, its that the other train lines still don’t offer much alternatives that won’t leave the elementalist dead in two hits, unless they go full bunker.

This is why you see ele posters frequently say that damage mitigation mechanics need to be added by changing the base skills and not the traits. If elementalists get some decent baseline defenses, their sustain from traits can be nerfed without destroying less viable specs. Maybe base healing of some abilities can be reduced as well, while increasing healing power scaling, so that an ele healer that specs into tempest+water can be a thing.
It is pretty laughable how the only good sPvP spec of a low health spellcaster profession is a bunker instead of a glass canon, it doesn’t make much sense. Not to say that having a bunker option is a bad thing, it is only bad because it seems to be the only option.
This issue doesn’t only impact sPvP, it also impacts raids, because being more squishy is a definite disadvantage which you need to somehow make up for. For this reason I believe that Anet looking at and revising base ele survivability mechanics is not an unreasonable expectation to have. This concerns balance in all game modes, and I would embrace the changes even if they results in some sustain nerfs.
I’m not really an avid PvPer, but I hope that my reasoning makes sense for the game as a whole. Balancing will be done by taking both PvP and raids into account in the future.

Yeah, the nerfs matters are to offhand dagger. Think stuff like ride the lightning.

losing 9 out of 25 stacks of might is not a serious damage nerf
losing 100% vigor uptime down to 70% is not a serious sustain nerf
losing 80% passive blind application uptime down to 50% is not a serious mitigation nerf.
Elementalist still needs nerfs to its sustain.
Brother, its because S/F fresh air is pretty much a medi guard without the damage mitigation and half the heal (or less). You play D/P. You HAVE to know how easy S/F fresh air is to kill by a stealth gank or someone who doesn’t get one shot by their main burst(S/D is even easier due to literally 0 defense skills unless the gut their utilities).
Eles either shouldn’t get a hit to their sustain or should get a hit but have more active forms of damage mitigation.
