After yet another instance of a bad player blaming the thief for problems in a match… Is there any way to deal with the abusive behavior of other players besides blocking them? It feels like you should be able to rate people’s behavior.

Send them in emails to players you feel are being toxic to you.
Make sure to quickly block the player before sending so they cannot reply to you.
Turn a frustrating situation in to something fun.
Problem solved.

You have a real problem if you’re shutting off chat in PvP…

I hate to say it but we often meet two types of toxic players:

1. The ones that do it from time to time because they are not good with dealing with stress and losing and can’t acknowledge their own fault in the loss of a game.

2. The ones that do it for fun. Sadly these are the most common. There are people that genuinely get into PvP to cause upset and mal-content. Somewhere in their life they are lacking so they use the anonymity of the internet to release their frustrations. One way they do this is to literally troll Ranked PvP. They are not there for anything more than throwing matches and inflicting their own hurt upon others in a cathartic attempt to alleviate it. They are typically immature people that enjoy this sort of rise they get out of people.

The only thing that can be done at this time, is to report someone for verbal abuse, then block them and move on.

In life you will meet both of these two people as well but they just are not as vocal as people hiding behind the game wall are.

I have noticed that often the most vocal and disruptive players tend to be the least skilled or experienced on the team. They often are used to a certain play style and if anything deviates from it, they assume their team stinks. They are often unfamiliar with other classes and builds and assume they all play the same way. I’ve frequently seen players yell at thieves when they are doing exactly what a thief should – decamping points, +1ing fights, etc,

I think some people overestimate their skill and feel entitled to wins. Yes, it does suck when you lose and especially when it’s because of poor play it strategy, but the toxicity just makes it 20 times worse.

When I see a thief on my team, I’m in suspense. Either he’s good and we will dominate, or he sucks and we will get dominated…..

But a lot of folks are just anal nowadays…I mean sometimes I say “Um, what are you guys doing?” and ppl just go bananas and call me toxic because I questioned them. Half of the ppl that complains about ppl being toxic, IS the toxic one. There’s no point in you going on tilt off of a comment just ignore/report and move on, cause trust me if you let that one comment get to you, it will effect you the following game.

Not if you play thief class – majority would prefer not to have one on their team it seems. I probably have half of the pvp community from EU on my block list by now. Worst part, even if you block players it doesn’t stop them from afking.

Season 1 (almost every match):
Team (before match even started): thief reroll. Thief, uninstall, kill yourself, <insert a lot of swearing words here, sometimes including various actions related to my mother>. Thief if you don’t reroll i am afk.
Me: report
Customer support? apparently doesn’t exist. I keep seeing same offenders every match every day.

Season 3 (every 3rd-5th match):
Team (before match): thief reroll.
Me: No.
Team: ok, gg, afk.
Customer support? see above.

Season 4:
Team (when we lose): thief, you garbage, you lost us game, useless <insert a lot of swearing words here>, uninstall, kill yourself.
Customer support? see above.

Team(when we win): hey thief GJ! Wanna team up? Let’s duo! You are good!
Enemy team: well done thief. Nice carry thief, wish you were on my team, wanna team up?

When i did play my necro or rev on occasion, nobody ever said anything bad to me, even though my performance in some matches was abysmally bad on those classes.

P.S. inb4 i can’t claim (according to my forum messagebox)) that i got harassed for playing the class. I got screenshots. Should i lie that issue is not there? But but but but it is against the rules to spread false information~

Everyone needs to understand the difference between kitten talking and actual verbal abuse/harassment.

It is literally legal in NA to talk kitten. Nothing can be done about it.

Dude you are just waaaay too serious. I actually love it when people are going nuts because I play thief. Yesterday I had a guy going particularly insane that I didn’t change my profession when we were facing 3 Dragonhunters. I just laughed at him, and said “wanna 1v1 me after? you DH, me thief”. Especially after that I could just feel his hatred through the screen haha :p. After raging on me he was like “okay I surrender the match, this is pointless waste of time we will lose for sure”.

We completely dominated the other team. It’s all some random guy’s mental projections after all. It isn’t something that warrants blocking half the community. People are just crazy. See the humor in that :p

It stops being funny when people start to afk and intentionally lose matches just because you didn’t reroll.

I once purposely threw a Finals tourney match because of raging teammates. the TS rage was pure gold.

Why do people consider the players toxic? What if the product is toxic? What if players try to have good impression about the game, and offend the players with false assumptions.

What if:
- devs are not wright (because top players and testing teams are paid);
- game is not awesome (because of marketing campaigns),
- players are not all noobs (because they try to think out of the box).
- PvP game is flawed (simply because it has overpowered PvE concepts integrated)

I was told yesterday that I am a bad player. My reply was very simple “Im here for a skin and i dont care what you think, i know im doing my best”

Honestly though, i hate PvP but there is nice skin tied to it =/

Players confuse smack talk with insults.
U will always have smack talk ingame, if u dont like dont play online games.
Words like crap, noob , nab , idiot, stupid …. is to be expected.
Insults towards your family and all this N words and such is not tolerated at least by me, and i will actually refuse to play with such type of " people" .

And while i typically dont troll or afk or anything like that the people that do really dont bother me much, oh noes i might lose a game i wont have fun if i lose a game! I dont have fun playing this game i only have fun winning….. To all those people i suggest single player games.

Well I would love to be able to take it not that seriously as you guys mentioned. But when that guy offends your mum as w*ore and wishes me cancer I cannot take it that funny.It really angers me and will keep me away from guild wars 2 now. I know I had a incredible bad match as my rev and I can only play engi,druid,dh and ele on legend level, but I practiced a lot in hj and unranked and won everything so I thought I was ready for competitive gameplay which I wasnt. Anet writes in their terms of use that offending in that manner is forbidden but do they do actually sth against it? I cannot say for sure but I dont notice anything. The funny thing is they would never have the guts to tell that right in front of you, im a semi-professional boxer I would never let me offend like that if he would have told that right in front of me, but what can I do now? I do understand. I am an MMA fighter myself, and I also get that impulse sometimes of “come fight me in real life then mr big mouth”. But the truth is that all this rage is only a part of their world, it isn’t something that has the slightest thing to do with you. People have their perceptions, which are generally insane in a sense when you look at them clearly.

The only part that is real for you is your perception of what happens there. If you perceive someone threatening you and your environment, it makes sense that your instincts tell you to fight. This could be favorable for your loved ones in a “survival of the fittest” sort of way. But if you perceive something else that is much more real in this case, namely someone who treats his perception of the world extremely poorly and is suffering a lot from his own creations, there isn’t much left but a sort of imbecile who punches itself in the face repeatedly. Your experience may completely turn into pity for some random creature. But as you come to accept that it is a simple truth that there is suffering in the world, even that sense of pity evaporates. Something beautiful takes a place, but I guess it is too much to talk about that here.

How about when there are 2-3 thieves and it’s thief daily achiev today, so you know at least 1 of those thieves can’t play it? :P

Jokes aside you can’t escape toxicity in competitive content. Even less so when there are 9 other people to blame for a loss. There’s always a sore loser, some pvp genius who knows exactly what everyone should do, an enemy player who thinks your team are noobs for ganging up to win fights or just a person who doesn’t like you because you use a different toothpaste in real life.
Laugh toxic remarks off (openly in chat) and the toxic player will most likely be kitten instantly.

Sometimes, though, the points are valid, so do consider if you could be the reason toxicity arose. I’m just saying, when my team is doing the same stupid thing over and over again (like going far on really slow classes and losing or going into 3 enemy populated zone alone 1-by-1) I get toxic too. Although, I usually start do something stupid too, like camping close and wait until they notice me, instead of spamming my rage in team chat.
