Agreed. I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it again, backstab needs to be unblockable. It doesn’t make sense thematically how a backstab can be blocks when the opposition doesn’t know it’s coming. Again, BACKSTAB NEEDS TO BE UNBLOCKABLE. Off hand dagger 5 should also be unblockable. Heartseeker when target has above 25% health should be unblockable. Cluster bomb should also be unblockable. The amount of passive blocks in this game is childish and giving more unblockable attacks can help mature PvP.

Not condi mesmer power mesmer and realistically guardians have a trap that gives 2-4k unblockable damage on low CD and Judment which is technically two since it interupts channeled blocks and its initial strike is unblockable Warrior has the ability to be unblockable for 6 seconds. Mesmer and thief are limited however in their unblockables and they already deal less damage than warrior or DH burst wise. And no this is not a Nerf DH thread. Warrior has blocks, Rev has a ton of blocks Guardian and mesmer have blocks. I don’t understand however, why the lower damage classes have been denied unblockables while the higher damage classes are handed them like candy . At least add unblockables to elementalist. Like a skill that says magic cannot be blocked or something. What I’m suggesting is pretty reasonable since it is not a nerf it is a buff that 1. Wont increase damage. 2.Wont nerf anything since it is a buff.

Been asking for a while, devs nerfed stealth attacks (thus buffed blocks) and basi venom as response :/ Dat logic.

Things that shovel posted are not so bad, although i don’t agree with all. I think if you hit with stealth attack from behind and it crits it should be unblockable but have ICD.

Don’t agree with HS. It is already quite decent spells, it doesn’t need more tweaks.

I wouldn’t make cluster bomb unblockable but make projectile faster.

CnD would be great as unblockable however it would need dmg nerf then otherwise it would be bit too powerful.

We could indeed use some modifying trats. However, the only universal tool (applies to all specs) thieves have is steal and it is already too stuffed :/

Access to both blocks, and unblockables, and what it costs (or should cost) to have them in your build are HUGE balance decisions that should not be made lightly.

If you feel there are to many blocks (without sufficient cost), perhaps the answer isnt to increase the number of unblockables across the board. But instead reduce the number of blocks, or potentially their durations/passivity.

Why thieves are so kittened is that we have DHs rampaging around and Anet nerfs tools that helped us to deal with guards, not to mention the class been in garbage tier for 4 seasons now and the nerf also affected builds that were barely viable if at all – Anet just keeps beating the dead horse.

What do u expect? You think it’s fine as is? Because boy you are madly mistaken. This is exactly the problem we have with PvP atm. People need to realize the power creep is not going away thus we need to bring the classes that are being left behind (literally the only class being left behind is thief) and bring them on par with all the other classes. Do you honestly think that giving classes more options to deal with blocks is power creep? If anything that’s dealing with the power creep.

Do people forget the existence of other game modes like WvW?

I mean yesterday we had this Kodash vault staff/caltrops full dodges thief able to dodge every 0.5s, immune to immobilize, unCCeable…no dmg..but was able to stall 10 people from capping a camp..and we tried everything: immobilze traps, range CC,everything but…he was literally 100% dodge mode

Thief in wvw is not a “sheep” as it appears in PvP..it’s not even a wolf anymore…it evolved to a kittening dinosaur

I mean this is what thieves are capable off in wvw…buffs across the board would kill this game on the same day..you want buff thief?..do whatever..just restrict the buffs to pvp pls

I have said thief perma evade needs to be nerfed I’m sorry you suffered the build. If you look at my post history you will notice a class and build trend that I have been trying to request a shave for. They are things players like you complain about. I only complain about what makes people frustrated in tpvp right now. Namely Thief spamming evades, DH, Chrono condi, Condi/cc warrior, Herald/Invocation Rev, and two special ones the immortal Scrapper and Druid. Players dont always have a problem with all of these but they definitely hate one of these. Personally I enjoy rolling around on my thief but I understand when something right needs to be done.

Backstab already has high requirements (have crit, be behind target, have stealth up, not get blocked/interrupted, it is SINGLE target spell etc.), was 1 sec CD on top of 1 sec aftercast really necessary, especially in DH meta?

And i love how people bring up dodges. They don’t save you from all, some spells ignore dodges (hunter trap for example). And, yeah great, used my dodges then what? Blinds are useless since HoT due to passive condi removals and AoE/fields spam. Mobility? Sure, i can always run away but giving enemy point doesn’t win games….

Every other class nowdays can decap and “assassinate”. Also what part of thief is assassinate nowadays? Even if i gank DH for example and he doesn’t see me coming, i probably still won’t be able to kill him unless he is bad.

Same goes with rev – he gotta be pretty bad to lose to a thief.

Same goes for engi.

Same goes for druid.

Same goes for necro – sure you can kill them but it is hardly assassination. More like slowly killing a whale.

Only class you can reliably “assassinate” is… other thieves.

Great i can get to point 1 sec faster than druid. Not a big help really. Nothing stops DHs from porting either. Nor revs. Nor mesmers. The only slowpoke class in entire game is necro.

This whole logic with “it’s thieves job to roam/decap/assassinate” died the moment devs created revs and gave everyone and their mother myriad passives and extra mobility (e.g. druids got RTL on 15 sec CD).

Also, this logic is garbage as long as class stacking exists in current matchmaking. What are you gonna do with 3-4 thieves on team and enemy team is not exactly stupid?

Why won’t you accept the fact that thief is not a bruiser/bunker?

You’re an assassin..and from lore and just common sense, assassins are not 1vs1 brawler, I mean you want to be able to 1vs1 people while having the highest single target dmg in the game and the ability to virtually disengage from anything?…how that makes any sense?

This is my friend in wvw..but he has also some parts from PvP, I can understand that thief may need positive changes ( like all other professions ) but asking for obviously broken stuff instead than ask to fix what few things are broken on other professions….

More unblockables on thief would not make the game any better..by a mile, I mean unblockable backstab?…yeah right c’mon

But warrior has the ability to be unblockable for 6 seconds and does much more damage than thief. I don’t see anyone complaining about that yet.

The issue is there are allot of tanky thieves around lately. (Refering to classes with more damage than thief and more sustain). Warrior for example doesn’t die instantly and out damages a thief in burst and sustained damage. Thief is like half a warrior and paper. It dies fast and cant even preform sustained burst because it is locked into running/surviving the whole time it doesn’t even have to be focused right now it just has to be in the wrong aoe field at the wrong time.

Also, why the hell you bring wvw in which is totally unbalanced due to gear disparity/food/buffs etc. and has absolutely nothing to do with pvp. Not to mention it is video of some random thief fighting some random rev. How about you show me some pro league videos from s1-s3 where thieves own people….oh wait lol.

As far as unblockable goes, there is 2 ways: either reduce amount of passives and blocks in game or allow backstab to ignore block if it hit target from behind. The only thing i can do atm (while DH is camping blocks for ages) is land 1 attack with basi venom and then spam choking gas which does like 0 dmg. Great choices~

You’re an assassin..and from lore and just common sense, assassins are not 1vs1 brawler, I mean you want to be able to 1vs1 people while having the highest single target dmg in the game and the ability to virtually disengage from anything?…how that makes any sense?

This is my friend in wvw..but he has also some parts from PvP, I can understand that thief may need positive changes ( like all other professions ) but asking for obviously broken stuff instead than ask to fix what few things are broken on other professions….

As far as unblockable goes, there is 2 ways: either reduce amount of passives and blocks in game or allow backstab to ignore block if it hit target from behind. The only thing i can do atm (while DH is camping blocks for ages) is land 1 attack with basi venom and then spam choking gas which does like 0 dmg. Great choices~

If you want to go toe to toe with all other professions then… we must nerf your profession first so that you can’t run away at will when things go south.
Just to remind you that elementalist ride the lightning was nerfed to stop ele from running away when things were bad.

Let’s use your logic here for a second, Guardian has been designed to be a support class with the amount of Aoe heal/blocks/reflects and boon sharing they should have all damage nerfed they weren’t designed for bruiser builds, the same with Druid currently their role is for support/bunker they should remove their damage. By your logic the only classes designed as bruisers should be Warrior, Rev, Engie. Then you have Roamers/decap Mesmer vies for the same spot as Thief at +1 decap but no one complains that they can sit and fight on point, and is one of the best 1v1 specs currently.

1. Ok sure, but then thieves should be at least on same level as revs and mes. Because those are roamers and have great sustain to hold a point. Would anyone like it? Doubt it. And we did have bruiser type of point holder build (s/d) which got gutted and simply lost the run in powercreep race due to lack of attention from dev team.

Druids have RTL on 15 sec, what’s your explanation to it? As druid i can easily cover 2 points with it.

I play thief – someone talking crap to me is guaranteed. I was called named, i was told to uninstall, i was told to kill myself, people afk’d and ragequit matches before match even started because i didn’t want to reroll. WHY IS THIS OK? DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS NOT CLASS BALANCE ISSUE? It was never this bad until HoT came out.

Last season, when DHs weren’t in such great spot i haven’t experienced a single time when they got flamed by team. I bet that block list from thief players is probably longer than from anyone else. But hey, thieves are fine, just don’t put them on my team, right?

If it’s fine for you to lose all things that make thief what it is..just to play a bruiser, you can easily swap class, there is no need to transform the thief in a rev 2.0.
You can make a rev and call it “Thief”…why do you want to play thief so badly if 1vs1 brawling is what you seek?

There is not need for all this rage, just answer the question why do you want to play a thief so badly if you can swap to a revenant?

Could it be that thieves wants all the goodies of thieves…plus all the goodies that professions like rev get?..I can’t be that blind..can I?

Thieves crying about a 1 sec CD on stealth skills while they rejoiced when Warrior’s adrenaline consumption was nerfed i.e. would consume full adrenaline even if the burst skills missed/blocked/evaded and it takes way longer to get to 30 levels of adrenaline on a warrior if the elite is on a CD than for a thief to get to stealth. Atleast thieves aren’t revealed on missing a stealthed attack which would promote more skilled gameplay like warriors’ burst skills.

There are already too many unblockables. Put more unblockables and that would make blocks useless.

Except when did thieves have 23+K HP, myriad passives to save their precious and massive dmg on multiple attacks?

Why thieves are so kittened is that we have DHs rampaging around and Anet nerfs tools that helped us to deal with guards, not to mention the class been in garbage tier for 4 seasons now and the nerf also affected builds that were barely viable if at all – Anet just keeps beating the dead horse.

Its true that thieves don’t have the raw hp and the armor like a warrior to directly deal with dmg but they got more active damage mitigation in form of dodges and blinds and mobility. Its a trade off IMO. And this has nothing to do with punishing players for missing stealth attacks like it does for a warrior bursts.

Actually it does. Thieves don’t have sustain to make up for missed backstab (which btw in many cases is not even worth using), you get maybe 1-2 chances to land it at all.

Backstab already has high requirements (have crit, be behind target, have stealth up, not get blocked/interrupted, it is SINGLE target spell etc.), was 1 sec CD on top of 1 sec aftercast really necessary, especially in DH meta?

And i love how people bring up dodges. They don’t save you from all, some spells ignore dodges (hunter trap for example). And, yeah great, used my dodges then what? Blinds are useless since HoT due to passive condi removals and AoE/fields spam. Mobility? Sure, i can always run away but giving enemy point doesn’t win games….

Why won’t you accept the fact that thief is not a bruiser/bunker?

You’re an assassin..and from lore and just common sense, assassins are not 1vs1 brawler, I mean you want to be able to 1vs1 people while having the highest single target dmg in the game and the ability to virtually disengage from anything?…how that makes any sense?

This is my friend in wvw..but he has also some parts from PvP, I can understand that thief may need positive changes ( like all other professions ) but asking for obviously broken stuff instead than ask to fix what few things are broken on other professions….

As far as unblockable goes, there is 2 ways: either reduce amount of passives and blocks in game or allow backstab to ignore block if it hit target from behind. The only thing i can do atm (while DH is camping blocks for ages) is land 1 attack with basi venom and then spam choking gas which does like 0 dmg. Great choices~

If you want to go toe to toe with all other professions then… we must nerf your profession first so that you can’t run away at will when things go south.
Just to remind you that elementalist ride the lightning was nerfed to stop ele from running away when things were bad.

-Guardian can’t run away either if losing, like ele they must stay there eating dirt..till the end, hence the bunkering sustain ( alas it was deleted from ele)

To defend your point..you always use ESL as a meter, but when attacking a point..you use your day to day soloQ experience. That’s rather convenient don’t you think?

Anet doesn’t nerf because it’s the right thing to do..they nerf because it makes pvers happy and GW2 combat system was adapted for pvers, the casuals that want easy rewards..now, no tomorrow..now

The thief was designed to be the best 1v1 roamer, then QQ and power creep, became involved and Revenant was made taking the best of thief and guardian. We want back what thief was and should be. It wouldn’t be making Rev 2.0 it would just be making thief what it was designed to be again.

Thieves used to be able to fight some classes reliable. It was all taken away due to QQ spam and HoT realease. They effectively deleted the class so they can create artificial demand for revs and increase sales.

I did play rev, i did play other classes. The playstyle is just not fun and doesn’t fit me. Besides if players have to reroll it means devs did poor job, simple as it is. Why should player be punished for devs poor decisions?

Also why should bruisers have higher dmg and mobility than so called assassin class, can you explain me this? Because right now this is the case.

Thief counters Revenant. In a 1v1 scenario unless outplayed the Thief should be winning. I say that as a Thief.

Guardian does indeed hard counter thief, and Warrior can counter thief is they run Rousing resilience and Demolisher amu or something similar.

I have no issue with the rest of your statement.

For the love of any bit of balance left in this game DO NOT make more unblockable skills! All it does is remove the thinking people have to do when fighting any class with blocks, because why care? they don’t to anything anyways and your skills will just go right through it. Also, when your blocking your usually not attacking, so what, you want them to basically be sitting ducks? If anything Tone down the myriad of unblockable skills in the game and leave the ones that require a lot of investment to get.

Example of what I think should stay:
-Revenant phase traversal since it takes almost all of your energy
-Guardian pulls since there is an icon on your bar so you know before you block that you can get pulled

Example of what should go:
-Thief Shadow Shot, nothing this spammable should be unblockable
-Corrupt Boon should be blockable by blocks that aren’t aegis since its on a low 15 sec cd so it deserves some counter play

The damage isn’t unblockable on Shadow Shot but good try the Blind is unblockable.

Passive blocks require so much thought though, am I right?
