Right so if you cross 4 divisions this season it won’t count if the achievement is still locked?

I guess not if you haven’t done enough achievements to get each year of ascension. If you get to ruby this season you should get to year 3 of ascension. If you haven’t done the other achievements along the way to ensure you get the overall achievement this is your fault is it not?

I don’t see anything about punishment for the people who clearly exploited and already got everything they needed in the first season. So should i understand nothing will happen to them? If yes be sure any exploit that will ever appear in pvp i will take advantage of it….because i consider it a reward at this point.

I don’t understand how placing players in teams with similar MMR ratings is fair. Ultimately, isn’t that just placing the top 5 MMR players on one side and placing the lower 5 MMR players on the other side? Assuming we’re talking about an average solo-queue Emerald game, for example, the system tries to place someone with others close to their rating, while simultaneously placing another person with others close to their rating on the opposite team. One is closer to the high-mmr players and gets a high-mmr team, while the other gets stragglers by default, resulting in lower-skilled teammates and earning a loss.

Win streaks and loss streaks will run rampant, and MMR will reflect things like being rated low for being on a losing streak with other low-mmr teammates, and vice-versa.

Since all the players in the match are being sent there by virtue of being in a certain division, and since that division will have a wide variety of skill levels, then what? Is our only option for raising our individual MMR going to be to play Unranked for a long time and wipe out those losses?

Since this is the impression many people are getting Evan would you be able to explain this further? Because it seems counterproductive.

Refer my previous post which I made an error it is 45 day mandatory requirement in a 50 day single season over the holidays (and during wintersday festival) to unlock Ascension IV. Otherwise no back piece. Seriously?

I’m ruby, had 25 pips, and played several times with legendary, diamond pre-mades… so I can call myself diamond to, or legendary?! I have to mention I wasn’t in pre-made, solo queue put me there, and against them many times…
Please just cry, every cheeser, oh I see the tears in their eyes, and the thought of no more exploits, just a tiny bit, oh the drama:(:(:(:(

The problem with the current system is good players could hit a snag in emerald or sapphire because they’re facing teams of similar strength making leagues not a reflection of skill but grinding since you’re always facing players of the same strength anyway.

On the other hand if leagues are truly a reflection of skill then good players will be paired together against weaker ones early on, then they’ll rank out of the lower divisions leaving only weaker players to face each other.

That’s the case, devs stated so. In the end, one needs only to reach Ruby twice and Sapphire twice to get the precursor during all the 4 seasons this year.

So, yes, the backpack is pretty much grindable and that’s it, the League system was thought out exactly with that idea in mind (that’s why the “not-losing-pips-every-rank” system is on up until you hit Ruby).

I think that there’s still a bit of confusion out there about progress regarding the PvP legendary backpack and so I just wanted to pop in and clarify once again that you DO NOT need to complete all of the legendary backpack achievements in a single season in order to acquire the backpack itself. I think the achievement text that Eolirin is referring to is for the “Primordial Legend” achievement, which, while it does require completing in a single season to finish, is not linked to your Ascension progress in any way. Some players who climb to higher divisions faster than other players will naturally be able to finish their legendary backpacks sooner, but again, the achievements for the backpack can be worked on over the entire year’s lifespan of the Ascension achievement category and do not need to be finished in a single PvP league season. Hope that clarifies some things!

Thats great, but there is an achievement in Season 2 which is required to continue for the next Season, which says cross 2 divisions ….. | for weeks i’m stuck in division 2 tier 4 and im unable to progress as im loose more then i actually win. I have around a 45% win oppertunity. So how is this even possible to accomplish? The Season 3 achievements don’t open, until you have completed this achievement.

As someone stated there is 4 seasons a year. You need 4 seasons to complete the League Elite achievement. So if Ascension IV isn’t unlocked this season it cannot be completed.

That’s not what I am saying. You don’t need to complete all the achievements in one season. But you need to cross 4 divisions in a single season (four times – x 4 – uno duo trio quatro). That’s 4 seasons. You can only do that if the achievement is unlocked in the first season.

1. Split SoloQ and TeamQ or;
2. Make it so you can’t lose PIPS against premades as a full solo team

Am I the only one who gets a premade like one out of every twenty games and wins at least half the time?

Nah, it’s not just you. I rarely ever see a team when I solo que and when I duo or trio que there is always an equivalent on the other team. The whole “solo vs full team” is completely overblown. I’ve played only 160 matches this season so far and probably faced a full team no more then 10 times. Hell, the other day I got 2 pips for a loss against a full team of diamond/Ruby players with our solo que team of Emereld and sapphires.

Balance changes aside,
what do you do against toxic players?

Players who for example,
afk all game or most of the game
and who lose on purpose (not necessarily through afk).

Do we have to reach the Legendary division (at some point) to create the legendary backpiece?

Will the new season reset mean that crossing the first three divisions will count for the achievement requirement of Ascencion III, if I and II were completed during the previous season?

If Ascencion II is at 1/2 (Sapphire now), will advancement through Amber next season make it 2/2?

I’m still confused as to why you’re offering a PvE item in a PvP game type other than possibly to encourage non-PvP people like myself to partake..

These are all good questions.

1. No, you do not have to reach Legendary division to complete the Ascension backpiece. Although doing so will speed up your ability to complete it significantly.

2. Your achievements for Year of the Ascension will not reset at the end of each season, but they will only be available until the achievement collection is removed roughly a year after it became available.

3. Yes, if you are currently stuck in a division and can’t climb out (say Sapphire for Season 1) and your progress in Year of the Ascension II is 1/2, then moving from Amber to Emerald in Season 2 will progress this achievement to 2/2 and complete it.

You must address the solo versus group queue disparity. All things being equal in all other regards you simply cannot expect a team of randoms not using voice comms or other coordination activities to compete against a premade team or large group on the opposing side

If this happens then the solo players should not lose excessive or in some cases any pips for a loss, and should be rewarding in accordance with the degree of difficulty on any wins that may happen.

I realize you cant fully separate it without completely killing queue times, logic tells us this, but SOMETHING must be done to satisfy both sides of the coin and eliminate the obvious disadvantage that solo players face against these group compositions.

In addition, taking into account meta classes should be considered as well so that people are not forced to play something they do not wish to play to be included but thats another discussion i suppose.

Let me put it another way. If someone gets ruby in ALL seasons, does that mean he will have the backpack? (with the condition he does all other achievs and so on, not important). That’s what ppl want to know…not stuff that confuses even more.

If the answer is YES honestly you blew it with this whole backpack thing…because pvpers have absolutely no limit imposed to them in any part of the game. On the contrary they don’t need to geargrind for ascended, for fractal relics, for fractal infusions, for fractal levels and whatnot hours apon hours in order to get into fractals. In pvp u get the gear for free and can change for free. Content is much easier in perspective for them because they have no limitations.

[ ] Free-for-all (solo queue and team queue) – Average queue time, 2 minutes.
[ ] Solo-queue – Average queue time, 10 minutes.

No perks or anything. Just the benefit of knowing you are going to face a pure solo queue team.

Can we at least get some kind of comment from the devs on this issue? No disrespect intended, but it seems like you guys actively avoid addressing this aspect of PvP that so many people hate. There have been probably thousands of posts about it, and yet you guys won’t even acknowledge it. Why?

Erik what are your plans for balance?

The amount of CC out there is nothing short of ridiculous, people being toss around like ragdolls. The amount of sheer condition spamming is just as bad as the huge amounts of condition removal. There is so much boons out there yet so many of it feels like it has little to no impact.

I was hoping to join the development team myself and redesign a lot of mechanics from the ground up to create a healthy combat system. For fun I challenged myself to redesign combat with a more impactful and with dynamics in mind. I’m reaching 40 pages and I am not even done with 1 class.

You got a lot of work ahead of you.

I continue to feel that this is the reason they dropped Dishonor down to 16 minutes fixed. They implemented this and never addressed their community as to why this was done. To my knowledge, ArenaNet has never stated to the community “we made a mistake.”. Their is a pretentious attitude from ArenaNet that I believe trickles down from the executive level. I understand they had a great deal of pride in the core game, but we’re many years beyond the core game launch at this point.

No one likes a person or company that refuses to take responsibility for their mistakes and show a bit of humanity. Their continues to be spirit of elevated importance every time one of the staff post to these forums. They are rare occurrences for sure, but when they do it’s as if the gods of ArenaNet have stepped down from the heavens to grace us with a bit of information. I don’t know if that is truly how they feel, but that is the way I perceive it. It’s unwarranted and it’s pretentious. GW2 is a game that needs clear and transparent communication between developers and community.

Every game studio wants to have a sense a pride in their product and likes to think they are truly the best option out there. I get it, but kitten MMO begins to transition into it’s mid-life their should be maturing of communication. Those on staff responsible for delivering information to us can only work with what they are being given. I am not trying to shoot the messenger. I just hope we see a paradigm shift in regard to how the powers that be choose to communicate with us.

An open dialog between game studio and community means clearly explaining changes that are being implemented. The 16 minute Dishonor change is a great example of a change that was made without any information as to why being given to the community. Did they expect we wouldn’t notice this? Did they expect us not to question why this was done? Companies that don’t keep clear communication going are usually choosing not to because they have information they don’t want the community to know. I call this “covering things up” and I think that’s a appropriate way to label it, but I suppose it can be subjective.

It comes down to a matter of respect. Companies that respect their communities keep a very open line of communication and let their player base know the information coming in is valuable feedback even if they can’t act on all of it.

You don’t need to complete 4 divisions just cross from amber to ruby. I inferred that passing to diamond would complete 2 tiers in the achievement. So if you get ruby in 2 seasons and diamond in another that will fulfill the League Elite requirement. If ascension IV is unlocked first season it probably won’t count you having crossed 4 divisions as it happened before you unlocked it. Which is why at saphire the League veteran achievement isnt completed.

So if you are like me and you haven’t unlocked ascension III yet next season I’d have to cross 3 divisions then in the last two seasons I’d need to get to diamond.

The new system is actually penalizing groups since it rounds everyone in the party up. The only time queuing as a group will be advantageous next season will be if every single member of the group is at the exact same skill level.

Having even the slightest difference between party members will give the group a disadvantage. Which means the most practical way to progress in season 2 will be to solo queue, since maintaining a full premade of identically skilled players is impractical.

U didn’t answer my question, if i get ruby in all seasons do i get the guarantee that i will have the backpack yes or no. Nobody….literally NOBODY can answer this question in simple terms (yes/no)?

If i made it to ruby it pretty much understood i unlocked T3 already..in fact i finished 90% of T3 i just need the daily grind + 3x division passes (which is the main problem). Problem is am i obligated (even so) to get to diamond (at least once,spanning all seasons) in order to get the backpack? Because if there are only 3 seasons that means even if u get 3 times ruby u won’t have the backpack.

As is i will need 3 (T3) + 4 (T4) division passes in order to fully finish this.

Erik what are your plans for balance?

The amount of CC out there is nothing short of ridiculous, people being toss around like ragdolls. The amount of sheer condition spamming is just as bad as the huge amounts of condition removal. There is so much boons out there yet so many of it feels like it has little to no impact.

I was hoping to join the development team myself and redesign a lot of mechanics from the ground up to create a healthy combat system. For fun I challenged myself to redesign combat with a more impactful and with dynamics in mind. I’m reaching 40 pages and I am not even done with 1 class.

You got a lot of work ahead of you.

Erik and the rest of the PvP team focus on the infrastructure that drives PvP (maps, leagues, matchmaking, reward tracks, etc). We have a separate team that handles balance from a more holistic perspective (keeping PvP, WvW, and PvE in mind).

The good news is that we’ll be sharing some of the details of our next balance update with you as soon as next week. Stay tuned.

Can’t u understand it’s down to how many seasons there will be? It’s useless if they are cross season and u only get 2 seasons…because even with cross u won’t be able to get all the division passes u need.

The new system is actually penalizing groups since it rounds everyone in the party up. The only time queuing as a group will be advantageous next season will be if every single member of the group is at the exact same skill level.

Having even the slightest difference between party members will give the group a disadvantage. Which means the most practical way to progress in season 2 will be to solo queue, since maintaining a full premade of identically skilled players is impractical.

This doesnt change the fact that any group of even remotely similar skill will have a huge advantage over a group of PUGs when you factor in voice comms and such, thats what needs to be addressed.
This goes a long way to balance out any skill deficiencies and give an evenly matched team on paper a great benefit and advantage.

Im sorry. You will need to get to diamond. But on the bright side an ascended back piece would be almost identical to a legendary (except the skin) with selectable stats and a different coloured font for about 100 gold and almost no requirements and you can get it now.

soloq is and will always be impractical.

There simply aren’t enough groups in the ranked queue at a given time to make teamq divisions and matchmaking work.

So lets crap on majority of players for the sake of couple teams? GREAT IDEA!

The majority of players is indifferent. And of the ones that do have a opinion only a handful of them will actually quit over it.
However the number of players that will be angered by not being able to get pops as a group………

I mean seriously league of legends got rid of the soloq / teamq split. That alone should tell you something.

There’s 4 seasons in a year. He said it would end around the same time as it started a year later so around 1st of December it will be over. It seems fairly certain.

What is your deal? There are 4 seasons, crossing division threshold achievement carry over from 1 season to the next throughout the year. Therefore it can be done without getting to diamond.
