WTS Official Ruling: Disqualification of Majestic Capricorns
Generally speaking, the disqualification of a participant in a tournament after the tournament has concluded does not result in rematches for all games that they played. The matches occurred within tournament rules, and so the results of those matches are valid. The only change is the removal of the said participant from the final results, and all other participants in the tournament are moved up to account for that.

To all of you asking for a oRNG vs SALT match for WTS, read this.
Other major sporting events/tournaments follow the above rationale. It’s only ‘fair’ to oRNG that the same logic be applied here.
Regarding the cheating itself, I hope that the individuals responsible for breaking the rules are justly penalised. Misrepresentation of players is toxic, disrespectful and dishonourable to the other competitors, the organisers and the spectators.
I hope that ‘alting’ isn’t set to become a serious a problem for GW2, this may only be the tip of the iceberg. How can we control dishonest people attempting to bypass tournament entry restrictions by sharing accounts?
ORNG deserves to go to the wts. Salt should not be given a rematch. Just the way all major tournaments work. Even in sports
@alt-accounting: So what exactly does that mean? Did players participate, that didn’t qualify for the wtsQ on their own account, or on the account, that was allowed to participate? Were those players under-aged?

“Fairness in competitive play is something we believe in very strongly at ArenaNet”
Obviously not!!!
Fairness in this context does not mean to give orng kind of a “free win” now!
If u are rlly talking about fairness here, then u have to give SALT the chance to face orng and it doesnt matter if people think they dont have a chance to win or whatever….
Otherwise…dont call it fairness!

This is how competitive tournaments function as a general rule, and I would expect this tournament to maintain that.

So it was teams, not players that qualified for the WTSQ, so that wasn’t the issue. However, for tournaments like this, they require people to play on their own accounts to stop unfair activity from occurring. For example, Hiba played on his main in the NA WTSQ, then on an alt in the EU one.
On a slightly more gossipy note, I heard that the players who were on those accounts weren’t planning on going to WTS to begin with. They were going to split the money with the actual account owners.

Hello, I’m Raaz, sub player for Various Artists. I have an idea what to do with gems that were suppose to be given to Majestic Capricorn players. Split them between the sub players of other teams because we are not going to be given kitten, exept of a mini llamas for past go4s and weekly tounaments, thank you in advance.
i dont get this what’s their problem. alt accounting is OK.
Took me a while to process this too, its not alt accounting, where players have multiple accounts. This is sharing, where players play for one another in a tournament. It’s like having Kobe Bryant put on a Wizards jersey and play, when he’s not a Wizards player, and they go all the way.
Just qualifying guarantees them a minimum $2500 and a free trip to Cologne. Doesn’t that seem ridiculous when they didn’t earn it themselves? When they straight up, had other players play so they could get that prize money?
Would be nice to see SALT vs oRNG for this spot.
No offense but if you’re claiming to strive for fair competition then you should treat the teams fairly too.
I agree. To be honest I think the whole loser bracket should be played again. I definitely think Salt should get a re match I mean they had played them four times and they were close games. Also if they had acted on this there and then during the tournament then Majestic would have been disqualified and SALT would have gotten through to the next round. I appreciate that Arena Net had to investigate the claims to confirm this but whether you love or hate salt is it fair that they haven’t been given a fair chance? They lost to Majestic in the first round and after beating the other teams in the “loser brackets” they faced Majestic and again lost – so there is two opportunities where if majestic had of been disqualified there and then salt would have had the opportunity to continue the tournament.
Majestic also beat Orange in their first round (yes there was complains of lag) and yet orange have gotten through because Majestic have been disqualified (yes they may have beaten them but the fact is they have gotten through because Majestic have been rightly disqualified). If Majestic had of been disqualified when playing salt – then salt would have gotten through to play orange logo for second place
Come guys in the name of fairness let the loser bracket be replayed again and give the guys a chance

Hi Arenanet.
I am from SALT- Night Junior.
I just wanted to say that this really ruined my pvp competition. We didnt only play once against “Majestic Capricorns” but twice. And the games where super close.
SALT have been very active and taking part in tournaments, We have won against Orng and TCG many times, but because Majestic Capricorns was on our side of the brackets we never had the chanse to face our true rivals and compete for WTS.I am very upset and i contacted u before the tournament started because I knew that they where sharing account but U never listened to me. I demand a fair tournament.
did u guys beat orng without me in esl?

Since ESL go4gw2 cup is sponsored by arena net, why not just take ratings from there and determine who goes forward. I really doubt they will re-do the tournament.
Also, murre, stop with the drama, you were never a smart man, but kitten, you are making a fool out of yourself.

He’s not asking to redo the tournament, he’s asking that the match that was supposed to be between oRNG and MC be done between oRNG and the next best team instead which would be SALT.
I don’t see how he is making a fool out of himself.
I would totally want to see that match, there would be a lot to prove with a lot of pride on the line. Intense.

In the name of Majestic Capricorn please allow me to apologize for what happened on saturday. It was not our intention to cause any damage or inconvenience.
In retrospect, I believe the situation resulted from the circumstances, where people leave a team in the last second. It was impossible to find replacements in such limited time. While this is by no means an excuse for what happened, we should look forward to future tournaments and the finals of the current World Tournament Series, as we see more and more people motivated to compete (sometimes even too motivated).
Again we want to apologize, especially to Team Salt and the community, who probably won´t get their fair match against Orng.
Congratulations to the qualified teams, the WTS has never been as intense and I´m sure this final will become the best we have seen so far.
Sincerely,
Blackjack

How does this explain why you yourself didnt even play in the qualifiers?
You were obviously just bitter because nobody wanted to play with you and wanted to ruin for some other team.

Actually no, not really. The difference here is that the qualifying match hasn’t been played as yet. oRNG were supposed to beat another team in order to qualify.
Now, the team they were supposed to beat got disqualified… that should not give them an automatic qualification.
Let’s put this into perspective…
Boxer B and Boxer C are fighting at a chance at a title shot against the champion, Boxer A.
Boxer C gets busted for doping. Boxer B doesn’t automatically get a shot at Boxer A.
Boxer D now gets a title shot and boxer B has to fight him in order for one of them to get a title shot.
(edited by Jasher.6580)
No. If Boxer C got dqed after beating Boxer D, that result still stands. He just gets disqualified from his match versus Boxer B, which progresses Boxer B to the finals.

Wrong. You can’t get a title shot if you were scheduled to have a qualifying fight. Just like how Braddock got a title shot against Max Baer after beating Corn Griffin when Griffin’s opponent cancelled.
Griffin didn’t get an auto qualify to fight Baer even though he was the number-two contender.
Braddock went on to beat Baer and win the title.

I would also really love to know, why Blackjack didn’t participate in the qualifiers himself and what he was doing at the same time. Is his conscience free of guilt, or are the rumors true, and he intentionally tried to cause damage?

A “no show” is different from a DQ/disqualification. In boxing, when a boxer doesn’t show up for weigh-in or cancels/drops-out, they just schedule another fight for the fighter, no big deal there are plenty of reasons for fighters to drop-out last minute due to health or weight issues. When a boxer is DQ’ed from a fight, because the boxer was fouling or breaking the rules, the opponent is automatically given the W and moves on if its a tournament/series.
If MC was caught breaking the rules during their match with Salt, then Salt would move on. The thing is, we don’t know if MC was alt’ing for all the matches. And I doubt we’ll ever know.

Waadz, evidently there is serious proof of account sharing (along with violation of other WTS rules, apparently, according to the post) in Majestic Capricorns… you have the findings of the investigation in addition to Blackjack making a confession/apology for it. Majestic being disqualified is no longer up for questioning, it’s pretty definite. Issue now is whether or not SALT should be allowed to play against oRNG for the spot since SALT are serious contenders and were knocked out by the illegal roster of Majestic.
When a boxer is DQ’ed from a fight, because the boxer was fouling or breaking the rules, the opponent is automatically given the W and moves on if its a tournament/series.
Correct. AFTER the fight has started. Like when Mike bit Holyfield’s ear. He was DQ’d in the third round. In this case, the DQ happened BEFORE the commencement of the fight.
No fighter moves up the ladder because his opponent was caught for doping before the fight took place.
Am I the only one wondering how Hiba hasn’t been perm banned from this game yet?
This is hardly the first time he’s broken the rules/acc shared to make “easy cash”.
Not to mention the DDoS accusations. Would anyone really put it past him?

It wasn’t people using alternative accounts. It was other people using team-registered accounts and pretending to be them. The rules are very clear: only the owner of an account can use it.
It allowed certain people, namingnohibas, to play in both the NA and EU WTSIQ.
I just want to ask players that were involved in this to NOT quitting gw2 and gw2 pvp scene. It’s still fun game to play – dont quit!
To all ppl that want to see the match of SALT and oRNG.
If replace SALT with Capricorn this means that we are pretending that Capricon has never played. Which means that there is at least 1 more team that would like to take Capricons spot ( at least for gems and maybe competing with best team).
So in this case there would be a need to replaying whole tournament which will only harm PvP community.
Cheers

What are you talking about? MC and oRNG were in a match, then it had to be postponed due to connectivity; and while Anet was investigating the connectivity issue, they discovered MC’s infraction. What happens if an earthquake stopped a boxing match temporarily in round 2, and while they were waiting for the match to resume they discovered Boxer 1 was cheating? Doesn’t Boxer 1 get DQ’d and Boxer 2 gets a win?
People just feel that SALT deserves another shot, because (more than likely) MC was probably also cheating during that match as well. But Anet can’t prove that, or maybe they can, I don’t really know how they would even begin an investigation like that. But if Anet does do an investigation into the SALT v MC match and find MC was breaking tournament rules, then yeah SALT should get another shot. But until there’s real proof or an investigation into that match, then no SALT doesn’t get another shot. Right now its, he said she said.

What happens if in the Manchester United v FC Barcelona, MU had Real Madrid put on masks of MU players and jerseys, then Real Madrid played for them? Would you allow this?
What if Mayweather v Pacquiao fight, Mayweather had Tyson disguised as him and fight Pacquiao? Would you accept the results? Would you even let that happen?
The actual Salt setup got 0 chances to beat any decent team atm, we all know the result.

It wouldn’t be a continuation of the first match that was postponed, the match would have to be restarted. In other words that match was made void and the real match was still tentative.
real reason why the decicion is unfair:
team salt went to an admin telling him that the team MC is possibly cheating (i think even before the match started), the admin responded that he will tell arenanet about it .
so before the whole oRNG thing happened, SALT already told the admins about the fraud.

First of all thanks for the clarity ANET and grouch. I am off the competitive scene myself, but I can still relate. All I have to say is that, whoever is using any means to take unfair advantage or cheat at a tournament event, SHOULD be banned and his accomplishes too. Going easy on such events starting from the first LAN tournament till now is really building up a more toxic community allowing this kind of behavior to repeat. The game should be fair, you have the rules for it, enforce them.
