I lost my patience with the game and its devs, after 3 years. uninstalled and cancelled my preorder few days ago, might be back at some point. we’ll always be playing an unfinished and unbalanced product. for example, when the elite specs go live, 6 months will go by before theyre actually playable/viable. no thanks. also still no significant balance patch after the spec revamp. almost a month and a half now. yeap, I’m done here.
as a final nail in the coffin for me, stronghold was a flop imo.

This is what everyone should do, wait with your wallet, you lose nothing for waiting, you can always buy later but you cant refund later. $$ is the only thing that will speak to A-net. And its not like you gain anything but elite specs for the entire cost of the game as a pvp player…
“After 3 years” (ye i must start the same way ) , PvP still doesn’t appeal me.
The gamemode is boring after a while,this is what kicks out players , and what kicks out is the balance too.
So lack of content for PvP , and lack of balance , heck,we have a balance patch every 6 months if we are lucky , and after we got the patch the “old monsters” get nerfed to the ground and "new monsters " raise.
This is not possible if you want to have a competitive gameplay.
I’m mainly a WvW player , involved in GvG , and even if they are going to realize the GvG-cross server arena , it is not enough to appeal me into buying the expansion.
“After 3 years” , 6 months for a bad done balance patch every time , close to no rilevant/game changing PvP new content , sounds like they are disconnected from the comunity , no way if that’s all.
Every time they try to do something great,they go so clsoe to do it,and then….(see the new pvp map and the mechanics).
There is still PvE , but sadly i’m not really intrested in a single thing of PvE…i play MMO to play WITH people against OTHER people.
But that’s personal opinion ofc.
In the end,as many other players , i’m not going to join HoT , but i will still keep a look at the game , if they will put something really intresting in i may buy the expansion in the next year.

Soloqueue
So Soloqueue is basically a filter, not more, not less. It means 11111 vs 11111. You can implement this filter or making a more restricted rule (for exampe for solo/duo players) inside the current matchmaking algorithm without making an extra button queue.
There is a reason why Anet didn’t implement this filter in the actual matchmaking.
The reason is: small spvp population. To not create infinite queues they used to implement a less restricted system (And honestly i think it works well enough for the majority of time, considering it doesn’t work with big numbers).
With HoT, things could change, it depends how many people will play Spvp. With more people, matchmaking naturally will try to match together solo people or, considering the implementation of Team leaderboard, Anet could add directly some filter inside the matchmaking to guarantee always a soloqueue experience inside the queue.
Ofc a better pvp infrastructure (=seasons + league with a good reward system) can really help to attract people in spvp.

Have they made any big personnel changes? If not, I think the past 3 years is a good indicator of how the next 3 are going to go.

- New game mode – People would rather have arena 2v2s 3v3s as been requested since the start
- People have requested the ability to duel and do other things in the mists since were stuck there, not a structure to climb for a week and be bored.
- People have requested a working ranking system and leaderboards, but we continue to get farmable rankings
- People have requested consistent balance updates to keep the gameplay from being stale
- People have requested pvp only armor and weps, rewards that are not just grindable but require skill
I think you get stronghold without HoT, not like its a good mode, id rather I don’t get access to it so when they merge the queues in 6 months I wont have to play it.
As a primary pvp player HoT is not worth the cost, we get nothing we wanted, they just prove they don’t give 2 kittens about us.

“Hopefully they have exactly what PvP needs”… Despite this game not having it for three years.
Honestly, I think a lot of pessimism comes for the seeming lack of direction. Roadmaps are missing, and with a slow development such as Anet has for whatever reason (It can be anything), they certainly do not get the trust they might deserve.
But hey… “Hopefully”… whoo~

HoT is, from a PvP standpoint, a new class, new traitline, and a new weapon! Somehow thinking this is going to magically make the devs balance at a reasonable timeframe and not terribly, fix matchmaking, implement leagues and ladders, and whatever else from the list of the 8 billion things wrong with Guild Warts 2 PvP is just foolish thinking! Plus you are getting most of HoT’s content, like Stronghold, even if you don’t purchase the expansion, which comes out to a costly $50! Over 3 years ago, I purchased GW2 for $60 and it gave me a full game! All the lands you could explore, the classes to experiment with, PvP and WvW… It was a deal! Now Anet wants me to spend $50 on a new class and a new weapon and a trait line! Good joke!
