Shoutbow warrior, probably.
Bunker guard is kinda bad. Power Ranger is probably going to get more popular again. Maybe they’ll just stick to turrets because what else can they do. Other engy builds are almost as mindless too.

Power ranger is an active role… And the removal of a build, it was actually good against(turret engi) certainly won’t increase the number of players running it.
Also remember, people played turret engi for different reasons.
If you mean the guys, who picked turret engi, so they can sit at a single point and pick their nose, probably shoutbow or bunker guard.
If you mean the guys, who picked turret engi, because they just thought, it’s funny to bunker with an ai based build, minionmancer or some sort of 2 bird bunker (beastmaster with rune of yarrrr). Some may even get desperate and try to get spirit weapons to work.

Edit: Many people played turret engineer because they honestly enjoyed it. Just as many people play longbow ranger becuase they played archers in other games and honestly enjoy the playstyle. Same with MMancers. PU mesmers. Hambow Warriors, decap engis, and even cele builds. And many others.
Are there alot of people who played these buidls just becuase there FOTM? Sure. Same way alot of people did the same with certain thief/warrior builds.
You can want a build to change without annihilating an entire playstyle. Hell thats a big part of what the upcoming spec changes are supposed to be about. Shifting builds while maintaining and even opening up more playstyles.
I am honestly dissapointed that alot of people that truly enjoyed the playstyle are getting shafted just because it was one more in a long line of FOTM builds.

Yep, I foresee a lot more cele eles and shout bow warriors and cele engies. The main reason people even played turrets was because they were strong vs the cele meta, so most people will just default to whatever is good in the meta… which is more cele.
Cmon, even I as a turret engi used the term abomination and eyesore, when referring to the state of the turreteer.
It was obnoxious, but if they needed a hotfix, removing sentinel amulet would have been enough to bring turreteer back in line with other builds until more detailed fixes could be made. No need to nerf my sweet decap build with a mostly untraited thumper… Well, I figure, I will copy the metabattle decap build then, if I am not allowed to use the decap build, I’d like to use.

I’m pretty sure those turret engies are quitting the game already and going back to pressing staff 1 in open worlds. Keep in mind that most of those turret engies are also hated in wvw, dungeons/fractals, and other game modes as well

Ele was unkillable not because it’s good, but because:
1) poison was bugged (yes, it was bugged—you heard it right),
2) 15s 1550 range RTL used for running away.
3) Immob was not stacking, so uunorganized people don’t know how to chain Immob to stop the ele from running away
4) the meta was all about burst (Mesmer/thief/100b warriors) so they don’t have a lot CC to stop the ele from running away
5) if they failed a burst, the ele could freely run away and heal to full, then come back. That annoyed a lot of people, so they complained on the forums, and ele was nerfed to the ground, until Celestial shows up in PvP.
6) ele glory day was a bunch of videos from daphoenix showing people how to play d/d ele by… running away in wvw. He successfully trolled a lot of people though. Google it. It used to be sticky in the ele forums too.

Sounds fun, but fromwhat ive been reading in the forums, ele is getting burned with the new trait system and cele amulet is getting nerfed as well, so Im already looking up for a new class to play

As I’ve said before, a lot will just move onto to the cele rifle nade spam spec. Also very easy to play and even more effective.
At least until the new turret engi, the revamped spirit ranger, comes out in the new specialization system.
Honestly, I think turret engi now is still very good and powerful. Especially in 1v1. Team fights, well not so much.
1v1 you have to choose between engi or turrets, all while the engi is shooting you with a rifle.
Team fight, thief short bow makes quick work of those turrets for the most part.
The condi damage is one thing, but the crits coming from thief shortbow just make quick work of it.

Maybe with all the new traits and skills Anet will do something to rebalance the game.
There is so much stuff to fix, starting with the Ranger longbow.
Not sure you’d be happy as they’ve considered making the 1500 range and the rate of fire from Read the Wind baseline, unless there are different changes you were wanting.
I have seen more spirit rangers. Auto-attack + spirit procs ftw. Maybe that’s the go-to profession for them now.

well only mm necro can pretty much afk like turretterds used to do…but is not nearly as effective, other specs still require dodging and stuff…and i’m not really sure ppl who used to play turret engi are ready to l2dodge and learn skill’s effects..let alone skill rotations…

As I wanna go back into ranger (Seeing the Quickdraw trait, my main might aswell shift from thief to ranger in HoT… Incidentally, a ranger can use my dreamer, too, so no loss on that front) I have been contemplating about running a bunker ranger build to hold points instead of a turreteer.
A dedicated bunker ranger could be just as durable as a turreteer and with rune of the pirate and a bird (aka the double bird strategy) the ai based damage may still be on the level of a rifle turret.
Well, I can’t test currently, as I’ve been abusing the crap out of my kittenty ~86kb/s internet downloading the entire android source code (my folder is currently at 23 GB) over the last 5 days…

And never forget that turret scrubs always save their crate for 1v1s too cause using it in tf would make them look a bit less reterd so it’s not contemplated..

Stop lumping spirits into that grouping only for the body blocking, they are just bad banners that can be killed with a secondary effect with two interrupt chances.

Spirits aren’t an AI build. They don’t fight and the only movement they do is follow the ranger like a mini. When you see them attack? It’s the ranger activating their active skill by actively pushing a button actively.
Aside from that they just provide boons like banners that are destructible.

You don’t understand PvP. While you were running around killing turrets, the engi was sitting on a capped point while you were wasting time. Even if you killed the engi at the end, the advantage is still to the defender.

If you killed the turret engi, you hold the point. He can’t take it back alone, because if you intercept him on the way back to point, he is toast.
Also, you underestimate, how fast rocket turrets went down. A power ranger could just rapid fire + lightning breath (protip: Pack a Drake when the enemy team has more than one engineer and you should be fine even against the old turrets) and the turret is gone. No amount of floating will save that turret and the other way to save it for a couple seconds is an elite on a long cooldown.
Yes, celestial builds will take a little longer to take out turrets and it’s generally not worth it to 1v1 a turreteer with a celestial build, but ultimately bunkers are there to lock down 1v1 fights on point.
Generally, as a turreteer, when a good mesmer player shows up, you will be screaming for a defensive rotation, because he will take you apart from a range within less than a minute and then stop you from ever getting back on point again if left unchecked.
The only problem with turrets was, that allround builds, trying to have their cake and eat it, will have a hard time beating them… And the meta revolved around such greedy builds.
With the removal of the last specialist build, the meta has now become the same builds fighting against more of the same.
I for one am for more specialist builds in PvP. More dedicated bunkers, more dedicated dps, more dedicated teamfight support… Both dedicated physical dps and dedicated condi needs to find a place in the meta. Right now it’s too easy to create a build with no weaknesses, but no distinct strengths… And the turreteer was the only one, who looked at those builds and went “they have no strengths? so what am I supposed to be afraid of there?”
Well, big news, now turrets are vulnerable to both crits and conditions, the two damage modes of celestial builds.
So turrets now went from being a solid choice for breaking the meta to being the most horrible choice in an unchanged meta. Good job breaking it, hero.

@ OP if your having problems with bunker guard it’s a L2P issue.
They are only good when allies are nearby and even then their damage potential is pathetic compared to any other bunker.
This thread just crossed my mind, so I thought, I’d post the current development for me:
I’ve started playing a turret ranger: An ai powered ranger using a pair of birds(seriously, rune of the pirate has been the most broken kitten around for how long now?) and an extremely tanky double melee setup with 6 in both nature magic and wilderness survival.
Celestial builds: If you can’t beat em, join em? We will see about that. The turret engineer showed, how effective a tanky frame with enough passive dps can be against celestial builds. Let’s see, if we can repeat that.
