More and more often lately, I have instant skills just outright failing. Examples: Withdraw, Roll for initiative, Infiltrators strike. Skills without cast times that do nothing when pressed. The biggest culprit (and the most noticeable) is withdraw – I’m not performing any other actions, I hit 6 – i watch the skill button react…and…nothing. Then I spam it 3 or 4 more times before it activates. Everyone else is moving and acting normally (I’m not getting any rubber-banding or my client playing catchup to the server), it just seems like the skill doesn’t properly register. This has caused my death a number of times; sometimes I can understand (a Ping war between my opponents client and mine, the strike that killed me “landed” before the server acknowledged my press of withdraw), but frequently, that is not the case. I stand in AoE, take a few more hits, or get CC’d waiting for withdraw to activate. Whats going on? Anyone else having similar issues?

I’m having similar issues and it’s not always even instant abilities, sometimes they’re channeled or have a cast time.
I hit the button, nothing happens, then I spam it 3-4 times and after about a second the skill finally starts activating.
It’s annoying as hell.

Same for me – it’s been most noticeable with my Guardian’s Virtues and my Ranger’s Lightning Reflexes. It’s ended up costing me quite a few deaths, since it usually seems to happen when I’m getting pounded on 2v1 or 3v1. >_>

Not that that’s anything more than anecdotal evidence, but I also thought it had something to do with my keys or latency. Perhaps not.

Not necessarily insta cast but I have been having this issue with my Mesmer on sword 3, then leap, shatter, and then blurred frenzy, my blurred frenzy just will not fire half of the time, sometimes it won’t even begin the animation until the immobilize is off of my target, it’s pretty kitten frustrating, no idea where it came from.

Happens sometimes (roll for initiative is a good example, happens with shadowstep sometimes too), can it just be due to lag ?

It’s happened to me before as well a few weeks ago. I hit Sword2 on Warrior for the leap and it just flashed. I then hit literally every other button and all my skills began flashing as if they were queued but not firing. I would type in chat ask around and see if it was just me and the messages wouldn’t come up either. Suddenly my skills 1 by 1 activate and the message pops up, again all like it was just in some sort of queue.

If I had to take a guess, I would say it is server lag.

Other games I’ve seen similar delays that were attributed to server lag, for example, is a FPS where you would empty a magazine on your screen and repeatedly reload and the game doesn’t register it but suddenly refills your weapon and returns your ammo, or open world games where people run around smacking each other but everyone seems invincible then suddenly dies. (Note, these are just examples of other game’s shortcomings, I haven’t seen these happen here, yet)

I’ve only had this happened when there were massive amounts of people around. So if you ask me this is caused by server lag. Not limited to instant casts either.

I placed the blame on lag. Most irritating when trying to use “Toss Elixir R” and the AoE reticle appears and disappears upon mouse click, but nothing happens : /
