What is wrong with the matchmaking?
pvp has never been so disappointing to play than now, matchmaking is worse than ever and i say that with several thousand games played.
at least 4v5s are gone but overall quality still decreased. Fast q pops dont serve any quality games since 10 “higher tier or premade” players rarely Q up within the same 5-10 minute window throughout the day.
Ladders without leagues makes completely 0 sense for me and its clearly not working.
I dont have fast queue pops unless you consider 5min + fast…
The matches are unbalanced… i often face premades when i join solo usually its filled with top players, like rom, texbi, hibify…
No fun at all!

But now after this new matchmaking system we have literally lost all but like 5 of our games.
Are you trolling me?
Here are your results going back to the last update (16th), and counting only matches were you were in a party.
32 wins, 30 losses, 5 desertions
- or -
33 wins and 34 losses if you go by team result
I can’t tell which ones are guild parties vs parties with other players, though. And you did hit a dry spell there for a bit. So let me know if you are still having issues.

2 words: selective perception, Justin.
I kinda have a similar problem in unranked arenas. Almost every match is really one-sided. Something in range of 500-100.
Even in soloQ days I had more interesting fights than now. Now you either completely destroy enemy players, while they try to zerg on one point, or you get those guys in your team and they can’t even win 3v1 against glass mesmer.

The matchmaking is kitten, the ladder is a grinding-kitten and the meta is cele all over the place. I had hope in this patch, but it at the moment i miss the old system =/. It was bad, but playing right know is kitten kittening =(.
I had 3 ranked matches this evening, just to try it solo. Got matched against 2 premades, who play esl and one match was a class-stacking nightmare.
Wow i cant believe i write this, but i really miss the pre-patch matches and soloQ ^^.
Which makes sense Justin, when I was duo queuing we won a lot of our games played. However is there a way for you to only look at 3 or more queuing? That was when I encountered the majority of problems. Looking at games where I was in a party of 3 or more I should have a much worse win/loss ratio.

i would loooooveeee to know why either they were 4v5 or extremely one sided

I was one of the people in the 3 queue so it might be easier to just check my history. It’s not the win/loss that I’m concerned about as much as the quality of the games. In most of the games it was either clearly mismatched from the start (I actually have less of a problem with this), or the teams were probably statistically “fair” but there was such a wide range of skill and experience within the teams in each game that the outcome just felt so random. I don’t know if it was because I was playing with guildies who had a bunch of games in the new system and I hadn’t had any games in the new season or what.
I dont have enough games played to give a valid statement,
but i heard “partying with 3x is optimal”.
Youre not likely to be matched against other full 5x teams , you risk only 2 other players being noobs and you are not punished very hard to be put against a super pug.

See that is like the exact opposite from what I witnessed. Any time we had 3 or 4 we got demolished.

Counting only 3+ in your party: 11 wins, 22 losses. That more closely corresponds with your intuition on the matter. I couldn’t see any overall pattern to those games that stands out as an explanation.

Which means there is likely something the MMR is not measuring, I think.

Possibly, or it could just be coincidence, or population imbalances at higher roster counts.

or someone in your team was just having a bad day

Update. I was one of those 3+.
Queuing solo for most of today I would say I had only maybe 2/15 matches that were terribly unbalanced. (Solo queuers vs abjured and one game where my team won 500-30.)
The rest of the games were decided by 50-200 points and were about the quality I was used to with the old matchmaking system. Not counting my 10 losses or whatever from the team queues that Nighthawk was talking about the system seems to be working ok with room for some tweaks.
Perhaps it was just an unlucky streak. But out of my first 24 games (most with parties of 3+) I was legit at a 33% winrate. Playing solo I’m winning just slightly more or slightly less than I lose, which is what I was used to in the old system on an average day.
Justin I have a question
why was I (engineer) paired up with 3 thieves and a ranger?
no heavy or light armor classes? thanks
It’s still way off. Use hard filters, stop being proud.

It isn’t a matter of pride, and it isn’t even just my call. The whole team talks about changes, and we have designers, and leads, and stakeholders.
We try not to make knee-jerk decisions, some times we succeed, sometimes we don’t.
Also, nothing has changed since Tuesday, so I would expect it to still be whatever it is. :\

Going to say RNG screwed you but i might be biased here…. over the past 3days i have only faced 2-4 4-5man teams. On that day1 13v4 — day2 14v12 — day3 15v3(today might change later on) Wins to Loses ratio.
This is all from soloq RANKED.

I hope people realize it’ll never be perfect. MMR is an indication of skill, nothing more. When I play LoL, CS:GO, etc., which are all established games with big populations, I still get matched up against 2+man teams, I still get complete blowouts, etc.
The only difference, imo, is that in those games you can carry much harder than in gw2. Which causes ‘less’ frustration all around.

The match making is bad, i keep facing premade and im alone with other 4 solo player, i lost the count on how many looses i’m having in a row. Its insane that solo players cant enjoy the game anymore. This new system its a complete bullkitten even if i respect anet and all its work
My last match had 4 people capping home. I have over 1.5k ranked matches played, please never, ever, put me with people like this. The 4v5s I can stand. Long waiting times I can stand. But this kitten is too much. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to stop pvping for good.

Jesus God, PWND.
Just for the record:
Yes, I have had some awfull matches, but most of them have been pretty good, even if we lose.
