At the request of some of the forum, I posted a video today of my gameplay. One particular high level player had agreed to review it and give constructive criticism. So far that person hasn’t responded.

I did get a good, if harsh, evaluation and several very good ideas. However, now being identifiable in game I’m asked to stop playing and told to “kill yourself.”

I took a risk. I knew it was a risk when I did it. Still, this hurts. I do not recommend anyone post video or even ask advice if you are identifiable in game. Check out the feedback I’m getting in game:

I’ve had good luck with feed back. Has helped me a lot. There are always trolls in the game. Is worse when you are binned with the lower tier players.

Pretty sad that people goes upto this length for a match in a video game.

One thing you can do is to check the block list and see if they are outside of HoTM and then queue. Unfortunately, I doubt Anet takes action. I have reported verbal abuse similar to this in thr first week itself and yet the person is on almost everyday.

Don’t let people bully you that way. It hurts, but if nothing good came out of it, ignore and move on. Strive to seek constructive feedback to improve yourself- there’s always someone willing to help in this sea of cancer.

No they don’t. Don’t give false hope to the guy. There was one guy in reddit that made an alt account, spewing racial slurs and whatnot in map chat for days. He didn’t get banned. He posted his findings on reddit. Some dev responded to do damage control but yeah. I don’t know what you are talking about.

Also ANet can’t really make a firm judgement call on this. After all, it’s a competitive game mode. It brings the best and the worst in people. Some people get very emotional. You can’t ban someone for being passionate about your game …

Also there are certain laws in Europe, that prohibit banning over foolish reasons. No the EULA absolutely has no weight in court. Unless you are truly cancerous you can’t have your service blocked by law. EULA is not considered a contractual agreement as much as big time publishers want you to believe that.

Ask any german around these forums and you’ll know.

Law is a funny thing. Might explain why rich people don’t go to jail. Did you know that video recordings have exactly 0 weight in court too? I was shocked to find it out too.

There’s a difference between randomly shouting racial slurs in map chat and aggressively targeting one person. The first is just being annoying, the second is a clear case of cyber-harassment. It’s not worth Anet’s time to deal with the first one, but they could be financially liable if they don’t take action for the second, and so they’re aggressive about dealing with that.

Yes, they can ban for such things. And they have too when they want to keep their game healthy. There is no right to insult others in video games. It’s quite the contrary. Insulting in video games is (at least in EU) the same as insulting someone at work, in school or in a public newspaper. In the worst case you will end up in a court. (we had a lot of cases were people had been sentenced to pay some thousand euros for hate speech on facebook.)

German laws don’t protect idiots like that. EULA are in fact no law, but in Germany no court will decide against Anet in a case like this.
The cases were EULA were refused by German courts were about “consumer protection”. We had an example with Diablo 3 needing a permanent internet connection without clearly stating it on their site or on the packaging. And Blizzard lost this case. The second case I remember is about Diablo 3 servers not working in Europe leading to a lot of players not being able to play and bringing up consumer protection in France and Germany and forcing Blizzard to fix these problems.

Last but not least. I really want to meet the guy suing Anet for getting banned after insulting people in GW2. It’s expensive and it will backfire – at least in the German law system.

The person is suffering from an injury in their left hand and the build they are attempting to play requires more and quicker botton presses to generate lethal pressure.

Perhaps you could disregard the player’s mechanical skill in this case.

Well what can I say. Should a person disabled like that be able to leave Sapphire? Maybe not. From the video I can absolutely see why she is there and she absolutely should not be Ruby with that performance.

That is competition for you. What’s wrong with her staying Sapphire if it fits her skill level?

In general all her posts about “MMR hell” really didn’t help her case though because MMR hell, frankly, is not her problem. I am suprised matchmaking worked so well in her case and managed to keep her out of Ruby.

Message me in game. If you’re on during eastern time-evenings I can give you some practice or advice for any class you’re playing or trying to. I’ve helped a lot of folks the past 3+ years in WvW/PvP/GvG play. You put the effort in, you’ll at least come out of it with something even if it is just insight.

But all players have a skill-cap; the most someone can do for you is help you figure out and reach that plateau. It is often most limitted (This time in my opinion) by reaction time. Too often someone will stand in damage that 1-2seconds extra that a diamond or legendary evaded initially as it landed.

Sapphire is an acceptable “casual” pvp rank tier. These people probably know several classes and a meta-build or two. You put some effort in to cross out of Emerald. Reaching Ruby is pretty good of course, and its at diamond+ where you tend to find the people that stretch the meta or rather know when they need to run builds off-meta, rather than just guess.

Instead of swapping classes I’m able to swap between 2 different builds (Condi/Power ect) on 5 different classes to play as effectively as possible and keep an opposing team guessing. And I can swap it in under 1-minute in the pre-match timeframe. Necro? You just think I’m condition against your engi+druid+elementalist until your locked into a well bomb and I roll over 1.2m damage in the game.

Sorry to hear you’re getting harassed in-game Ithilwen. It’s best to not respond. If someone sends you a hateful message, just block and report. Don’t bother saying anything back. If they’re saying things through team chat and it’s causing you grief, disable team/say/map chat for that game until it’s over.

Turn off chat and just leave on the damage tracker option thing. Thees days 8/10 matches no one tries to strategize or says anything related to the match anyway. And why would they all you need to do in order to win/have a chance is slot in your class’s elite spec and spam aoe on points, gg wp you can now reach legend.

Will add you, and try to help. On a side note just ignore these neanderthals.

I saw those posts asking you to upload a video of yourself playing, I see those same people now absent from this thread disappointingly.

I’ve followed a few of your threads now and have seen you become a voice for many that are unhappy with how MMR/League’s is treating them. It’s a shame lesser minded people have merely used it to easily target you.

Please report what’s been said ingame to ANet, one can only hope they do something.

Ithilwen, I watched your video. I am by no means a top active player (I only logged in a few times to PvP in season 2), but you really need to work on some things. In that commentary thread, BeepBoopBop gave you a very clear and correct indication.

I agree with what Beep says. I do not play PvP a lot these days, but there are some major things you really need to work on (based on my viewing 6 minutes of your video).
1. Doing nothing: I see you just standing still while your team is fighting. It’s okay to back out of a fight when you’re sure you can’t win it (that’s when you go cap or contest another point). It’s NOT okay to simply stand there pondering what to do.
2. Skill clicking: please stop skill clicking, your reaction time is slowed by that. Also use tab-targetting if possible, or call targets for your team to focus using ctrl+click, while still fighting at the same time.
3. Pressuring: linked to your doing nothing and skill clicking, you just do not damage your foes sufficiently. Several times in that short video, it’s like you just tag in for the kill but you’re not really helping out a whole lot. In general, you’re just not offensive enough.

Now, please don’t take this too hard. If your reflexes are slow or you have a hard time using all your skills through keybinds, that’s not your fault, but sadly it will hold you down in PvP.

On a side note: it does not give anyone a right to flame you. Please just ignore people who say “kill yourself”.

I sorry you had to try it to figure it out. Sadly, there are too many ppl just waiting for any munitions you can get them. They are not here to help you but to validate the POV you are challenging.

Eh .. I can give you a screenshot of my game and you’d see max size minimap and oh god forbid the default bindings of skills.

However I don’t access anything beyond #5 with the key you’ll see on the picture.

It is very bad to make assumptions based on a screenshot. The fact that my heal is not on X doesn’t mean I don’t have sheathing on X for example and #6 is some other alternatively bound key.

Sometimes I eat with one hand and using the #6 is more convenient than key combination

And no I’m not suffering from “omg if i had extra milisecond to do X and survive”. If I die it’s usually because I’m outnumbered or stunlocked or I’ve made a bad call like trying to outrun a thief for example without trying to kite xD but yeah, rare moments,,

Meh, it’s just the nature of gaming in general. It’s too bad you had to deal with someone like that. I’ve been called every name in the book from either side from trash to hacks, just ignore the haters and stay on the correct path.

If you want we can practice dueling sometimes, I have some Arena Tokens saved up from doing the Glorious Reward Track. I have all classes except necro and mesmer so I have lots of classes but only really use tempest, herald, and druid this season.

I actually encountered that guy a few times. I told him to cut it out and told him he could get banned for speaking that way to appeal to his self-interest (tried appealing to basic decency at first but that didn’t work) and the “rocket” spam was annoying but others were just laughing it off. I thought he was just some joker kid who didn’t know the context behind just how awful those words were.

She actually believes she should be higher by now but “MMR hell” prevents her from climbing. She posted such a thread about once a day in the past couple of weeks. I don’t support people trashtalking her ingame but the whole thing kind of showed how most people believing MMR hell keeps them “stuck” on low division are just not very good.

If you live in the EU these kinds of threats fall under their new anti-terror cyber laws. You can report these to your local law enforcement and they will force Anet to reveal their identity and arrest them. These new laws carry a 1-2 year prison sentence.

If you are in the US or elsewhere you are out of luck though.

We don’t need to buy a lawyer for it. A police call is enough.

But I am not sure that law would extend to other countries…

Hi, I am one of the people that asked for a video. It’s quite unfortunate that people are abusing you after you made an actual attempt to improve and look for feedback (your video, obviously). Keep in mind these same bads are also stuck in the same division as you, and are merely projecting their kitten onto you.

That being said, with how “well-known” you are throughout the forum community, I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens. Especially after the video.

Sadly being told to kill yourself or told that you’re garbage, or even to go pick flowers, or collect rocks (both are new ones) if you’re in Sapphire is pretty much everyday if you play a Warrior or Thief casually. Probably a lot worse, actually.

I don’t think the people ingame know who OP is, or are targeting her from the forums. I think there are just naturally lots of crap humans in the toxic Sapphire dump.

This was all you needed to say Chaith. You didn’t need to qualify it with tying it to Sapphire. These people exist across all tiers, and it only seems to get worse as you climb.

OP sorry u have to experience that. just report. block and move on. i watch your video earlier. although its a winning video. i see in your video the u prefer roaming all 3 points but you dont have a portal as skill to get back to those points u just cap, the enemy team basicly just recap it with no contest. i also notice ur a “clicker” which i understand, u only click the skills that is hard to reach. mainly skill 7-0 and f1-f5. i suggest u buy a mmo mouse, g600, or razer naga. also corsair has a new one. it will help u with ur reaction time. i really dont think anyone should reach ruby – legendary without having any keybinds. besides that i think u did ok. something to be expected with saphire players. get mmo mouse!

Sadly, the community can often be the worst part of this game. I really wish that the devs were a bit more harsh with their bans/suspensions based on when people that did this type of behavior.

That being said, good for you on trying to self-improve. I hope you get into some better games and can find enjoyment in PvP again.

The absolute worst I’ve ever said in /team was “Can a warrior/thief(if more than one thief) please switch?” after going on tilt with a massive losing streak while getting warriors on my team for all those losses and knowing that necros being OP (at least one on the enemy team) and warrior being underpowered (one on all my games for that day) wasn’t coincidence. Yes I myself could have played better in those games but you have chat ragers, AFK’ers, and others who aren’t constructive.

Then I cooled down, got a warrior on my team again, and my tempest and the warrior hit far at start since warriors are better in small scale fights. The enemy team all came to our far but we won that fight and eventually the match anyway. Sometimes you just have to work with what you’re given to the best of your ability.

Ding Ding Ding. Nobody deserves to be abused in game but Ithilwin is a known thread spammer about how the system is keeping them down blah blah blah. Watching the video its pretty clear why they are stuck where they are. That being said kudos to him/her for tying to get better. That’s more then 99% of people complaining about MMR hell do. It would be better on the whole if people would elicit feedback on there game play first in game or here before blaming outside forces. That doesn’t mean there aren’t outside forces the system can certainly be improved but really you have people posting they lost 20 games in a row and its the system’s fault?

As a geologist, I’d just like to chime in and say that picking up rocks is a worthy past-time and is a major contributor to how we know so much about the geologic history of our own planet. In fact, you could extend that argument out to our knowledge of the entire solar system since it is primarily meteorite finds (rocks found in Antarctica) that allow us to understand early (~4.5 Ga) planetary formation. This type of analysis is not trivial, so, if anything, you should consider that troll’s particular comment as a vote of confidence, really.

So i see them verbally abusing you and you returning the favor but i don’t see where they claim it was because you looked for feedback on a video and they saw it

It makes me angry how these people doesnt want to help you but just say that you “belong to sapphire div”. So your left hand doesnt work well? How about getting one of those MMO mouses? That holds like 10+ buttons. Then picking a character that doesnt need so much movement on points (ranged). So you could spam skills and utilities with one hand and practice to be good with it. Im sorry to say you this, but I doubt you can be pro (I hope Im wrong) but you can be better than average with practice and with right gear (mouse and keyboard). I hope you still enjoy playing GW2 even that PvP is super toxic.

I also have a problem with my (right) hand preventing me from optimizing things in some ways and still play with a regular mouse but it is painfully obvious the problem isn’t he mouse nor the keybinds in the matches we loose.

Despite pointing and clicking all my skills with my mouse I win most of my 1v1. I just needed to take different habits. Bad rotation is by far what kill the most, yet ppl will stick on keybinds and the like if you show them vids of you playing insisting you are responsible despite the fact it had no significant bearing on the outcome. It’s just sad.

Don’t let em get to you. People say the same crap in legendary to one another. I don’t encourage it, and usually try to defuse nasty situations, but some people are just volatile

Here is some feedback for you.
This pearl of wisdom comes from years of competitive play in gw1, and still applies in gw2.

An average warrior is average.
An average elementalist is average.
An average necromancer is average.
An average mesmer is bad.

Because of mesmers squish factor, and also because they have time sensitive skills that will interrupt if they hit at the exact moment, but do nothing if their a fraction out of time they require a certain savvy to keep alive and be effective. They also have some skills/elites that when used in a masterful way will entirely dominant a match situation.

The point is mesmer is, and can be fun to play..but also to get the most from them they require some esoteric thinking. They also benefit from a fast internet ping.

Even though you’re doing your best to win and help your team, and at times doing a above average job, as stated above mediocre and average game play on a mesmer is overall bad.

Take the time in the off season to play a lot of other professions and their elites. Look at what they are good at and not so good at. Generally speaking many of the things a lot of the professions are good at, mesmer can make them better..many things others are not so good at mesmer can do well. Focus your return to mesmer after playing other professions to excel at what mesmer does best. These things would be;

1) Savvy portal plays
2) Moa morph problem targets when it is going to ruin their game play and ruin their teams.
3) Get interrupt timing down when you see key skills being cast.
4) Master hotkeys. This will make movement, disengagement, targeting a lot easier for you.
5) Focus on movement to get to situations where you’ll make a difference. Mesmer can move fairly fast in between nodes when you know how.

Freedom of speech has restrictions. Harassment is against the law. Inciting panic is against the law. As is per usual, your freedoms end where someone else’s rights begin. You cannot hide behind the protection of freedom of speech when you’re making attacks against someone else.

It makes me angry how these people doesnt want to help you but just say that you “belong to sapphire div”. So your left hand doesnt work well? How about getting one of those MMO mouses? That holds like 10+ buttons. Then picking a character that doesnt need so much movement on points (ranged). So you could spam skills and utilities with one hand and practice to be good with it. Im sorry to say you this, but I doubt you can be pro (I hope Im wrong) but you can be better than average with practice and with right gear (mouse and keyboard). I also have a problem with my (right) hand preventing me from optimizing things in some ways and still play with a regular mouse but it is painfully obvious the problem isn’t he mouse nor the keybinds in the matches we loose.

Despite pointing and clicking all my skills with my mouse I win most of my 1v1. I just needed to take different habits. Bad rotation is by far what kill the most, yet ppl will stick on keybinds and the like if you show them vids of you playing insisting you are responsible despite the fact it had no significant bearing on the outcome. It’s just sad.

I can promise that using your mouse to click skills is hindering your gameplay. It’s just a simple fact. You can’t go from clicking one skill to the other as fast as someone who has them keybound. I haven’t seen you play so idk what other mistakes you make to keep you in a lower division than you feel you deserve, but I can guarantee clicking your skills is one of them. Making the switch to keybinds will take a while to get used to, but it will help significantly. You should try it.

Kids will continue to tell each other in team chat and VOIP that they’re trash and unwanted in their games without ever violating cyber harassment law. It’s called being a jerk.

I’ve followed a few of your threads now and have seen you become a voice for many that are unhappy with how MMR/League’s is treating them. It’s a shame lesser minded people have merely used it to easily target you.

Please report what’s been said ingame to ANet, one can only hope they do something.

I’ve seen the OP’s video in the other thread and i believe the biggest problem and why people are having these losestreaks is because they are in a division way above their skill lvl. I have no clue why you cannot drop divisions it makes absolutely no sense.

I dont want to sound rude or anything but the OP really does not belong in sapphire. Her mechanics are something she really really has to work on and only going by mechanics i would place her in amber or low emerald.
