TDM was the worst possible game mode they could have added and I’m quite sure they are aware of it, probably didn’t take much to make such a tiny map with no objectives.
They aren’t willing to put in the time for a fleshed out game mode like GvG that would suck all the players away from their precious conquest.
Conquest is probably the only mode anyone will take seriously cuz anything else is gonna be kitten I bet. I just don’t get why they feel the need to throw TDM in rotation suddenly when no one even played it… nor asked for it.
I swear these guys have a list of things ‘how to annoy what little pvp playerbase we have even more trolololo’

@robert Why is conquest something the game should be balanced around? Introducing other modes into the same pool is how we change the balance of the game as the goal of the balance changes as well.

Wtf is this question even? Because conquest is the only competitive game mode? Because before this pvp patch hit courtyard was not a part of neither soloq and teamq? It was and still is a joke map. Great if you wanna have fun with friends but totally broken regarding fairplay. Everything is balanced around conquest because before patch conquest was the only game mode.

Lets say you like the map because it is “FUN”, “a nice change of pace” or whatever. That is perfectly fine. But can you please understand fun and variety doesn’t mean balance?
Also, if it was the same as conquest(as somebody here very smartly concluded because losing first team fight is lost match lol) then why conquest games tend to end on a close score like 500-400 or whatever and courtyard is always 500-100 at best? (current broken mmr/elo not relevant)
Spawncamping combined with forced base leaves creates a perpetual outnumber fight because of the different respawn times. Assuming 2 equal( or almost equal) skill level teams, the first 5v5 win(and obviously enemy is full wipe) decides the game. It becomes a farm after that unless the other team gets greedy/yolo.
Again, as it is common on these forums. Zero comprehension, pure casualism. GG anet. Please your gem buyers more.
Edit: Since anet pvp guys say it is a fine map and good. Can you guys include it in the WTS rotation? I mean there should be no problem having skyhammer and courtyard at WTS because they are all competitively balanced and amazing maps.

Until they implement the ability to save different builds so you can easily switch between them, I can’t agree with CY being in the same queue as conquest maps. Even then it should be in a different queue.

I really don’t get why so many people are complaining about Courtyard. Every time it has come up for me in queue, the majority of the players have picked it.
Currently, it’s very popular and it’s the player’s choice. If it is a bad map that no one enjoys, people will stop picking it and it won’t be played. The problem will solve itself.
Edit: Also, when it comes up, you can simply not pick it. I voted for Kyhlo last night and got the map with a single vote even though every one else voted courtyard. RNG means you can get your wish to not play it!

Not true. My second game tonight (and first time on this map ever), final score was 475-500.
I think they should add an item to the gem store that costs a lot of gems that kills all enemy players on the map. This will make pvp p2w and everyone will stop doing pvp. Then no one will qq about ui or mmr.
Courtyard needs a lot of tweaking and new mechanics on it, like for example, having 3 rounds so the team who gets the momentum doesn’t win without any chance of losing, it needs to prevent spawncamping as well, in short it needs balance and A LOT of polishing..

On a broader level, there’s a social contract between the players and ANet. So long as ANet works to keep the matches balanced and playable, players will participate and try to the best of their abilities.
If players are of the opinion that ANet has broken its end of the social contract (with Courtyard and/or matchmaking parameters), I would not find it shocking (nor overly upsetting) to see them reneging their end of the contract.
In the long run it’s actually beneficial (for W-L/leaderboard stuff) to have AFKers in your game. Assuming you don’t AFK yourself, any AFKer in your game has kitten .6% chance of being on the enemy team and only 44.4% of being on your own.
I pose a question to all who defend Courtyard in its current state. As some are disgusted at facing premades farming CY with 50%+ chance of popping, would you accept a change in map voting to allow one vote per party, rather than per individual?
(Just putting out there that a reply of “no way, then we’d never get to play CY again” would be a crystal clear admission of the current imbalance and/or unpopularity of the map)

Yer I just can’t see where the play testing was. All I see is blow out matches, either you dominate or get dominated.

There are several reason why match are one sided. The biggest is people are not set up for it. No meta has been developed for it and a lot of the flavor of the month build are terrible for this map.
There needs to be time for thing to evolve. I don’t know why this map need to be in a separate queue. Will there be a separate leaderboard as well.
Being good at 80% of pvp might be good for some. Being one dimensional imo is never good.
I like the ideal of adding another tactical choose that may put you one even ground.
If the opposing team are unstoppable on two maps. This map can give you hope.
People are always resistant to change. What will bring the most to gw2 pvp.
How are the Chinese viewing this new change. Its not always about what you want what will be good for the game as a whole. For most games DM is where its at.
Some say courtyard is to small but if it were bigger the class with lots of escape ability would just dominate and drape it out.
Elimination would be terrible as thieve would just stealth and gank.
By removing the map from the season line up; it removes any possibility for a real meta to develop and for people to take this map and or mode seriously.

I loved that the Courtyard got into the selection of maps for the match. Personally it is my favorite and, despite being super excited when it first came on, I sadly watched as the player base on those maps plumed.
Now, even that I cannot play on it whenever I want, at least I get to play it here and there, which is a great improve compared to “not playing it at all”.
Courtyard is extremely problematic at the moment. It suffers from poor map design and poor design for respawns.
At the moment, individual respawns for Conquest are fine. The point capture mechanic means that having staggered respawns isn’t as problematic.
Individual spawns are not acceptable for TDM maps like Courtyard. It puts an extreme snowball mechanic into an already problematic map and makes blowouts an almost absolute certainty. Consider the first major engagement, 5v5. A person goes down on either team and is stomped, snowballs the entire fight. People die at different points in time to then spawn in different intervals.
Newer players will not have the patience to sit around in spawn and just get spawncamped. Match ends with some crazy discrepancy like 500-100 or so.
The solution is to add wave respawning, but only to the Courtyard map. In this way people at least spawn together and have a fair chance coming out of the gate.
I could go on about the rest of the map’s problems, like the side paths being used for teamfights because it corrals players into AOE spam; or the horrendous camera problems towards the middle depression of the map; but if anything is to be done about Courtyard it is to add wave respawning.

It really comes down to knowing what you’re queuing for when you decide to join the queue. While having the ability to save multiple builds to hotswap between would solve some of the issue, I’m sure I’m not the only player out there that wouldn’t even bring the same class.
TDM needs to be on its own queue. Just make an options panel on the PvP pane that lets players choose the game mode they want to queue for. Players can choose to queue for both TDM and Conquest at the same time that way if they honestly don’t care. You could even allow players to ‘sort’ their map choices on this screen so they don’t even need to choose a map anymore. The system will auto select based off their options screen.
But all this shouldn’t preclude ANet from introducing a second (or third, or fourth…) template to swap between per character.

But YOU KNEW all of this, you already knew it because this map has been around since april, and the feedback has been “This is worse then skyhammer” and skyhammer still has a 46 page post filled with nothing but kitten.
It should be a deathmatch ‘without’ respawns, let’s say 5 rounds, where each round won gives 100 points to the dominating team. Make it timeout after 5 rounds are played.
A player cannot respawn when there is at least 1 teammate alive. When one team is defeated, everybody are pushed back into respawns and defeated participants are revived.
Right now, it’s a big mess.
This thread has made me lose all hope in the PvP community…

instead of finding one of fifty ways to counter it… but this just takes the cake….
Conquest is an ok game mode; however, it becomes very repetitive and boring after a while. I understand that some players do not have the mental capacity to memorize more than 1 game mode and more than 1 play style but come on….
If anything, the only thing that NEEDS to be addressed is the lack of a build saver. Guild Wars 1 had a very nice build system that should NOT be too hard to replicate. If space is an issue, just have it generated as a txt on the clients side….
The whole tunnel syndrome attitude has to go….

To be honest, I love new game modes. Courtyard seems like a great map for team fights when they’re not one-sided…
Back in the day (I’m talking the spring/summer of 2013) my guild used to organise big mock fights. We would go to pvp with 10 people.
Then we would split our group into 2 teams and we would do Death Matches. We made sure to make the two groups about as strong as eachother. For example if we had 2 mesmers one went to each team. The fights were amazing, cause they weren’t zerg zerg zerg, we actually tried to out-strategize our fellow guild mates and win as a team.
Anyways, courtyard seems like the perfect death match map, BUT you should encourage strategy. For example if you got turret engi aoeing the middle, players should not be jumping straight in there and get zerged down by 5 each time… instead they should play together (WAVE RESPAWNS) and try to lure out to fight at other locations than the middle.
I like TDM, but they need to add a way to give dishonor to feeders.

I could understand someone going AFK on Skyhammer, and I wouldn’t blame him or her for doing it. But it would be weird for anyone to boycott any of the other maps since those are what Guild Wars 2 is mostly about. It would make me question why they queue in the first place.
My point was basically just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you can’t be a good sport about it. If you don’t like courtyard/skyhammer/spirit etc… vote for the map you like if it lands on a map you don’t like be a good sport/mature and just play the game. Your last sentence is actually on point. If you know their is a chance sky hammer for example can be rolled why even que? This is only for the test season anyways so its not like its permanent but at least we are going in the direction of new content.
Courtyard can be annoying now because of the circumstances but if it had its own game mode or its own Q with TDM versions of current maps then everyone wins…. also TDM could be a great way to get WvW exclusive players to try out PvP because they are familiar with that style of play. Personally i’ve played courtyard with some WvW commanders (self proclaimed) and it was really fun because they understood the play style (we ended up winning because of communication and teamwork.)

Just lost 500-0 as well. Now that being said, people usually stop trying after 2 deaths. The problem of courtyard is that you can’t just split off map if you’re not able to kill the opponent 4v4 or 5v5.
From my point of view, what happens generally is that it’s hard to see anything, and builds spamming damage( more likely aoe conditions) and buffs at same are too well rewarded, especially if you got a crap setup (squishy / non bunker heavy/ no necro/mesmer,..).
on a side note: is it me or targetting people command is bugged on that map ? Myself and others keep claiming calling targets, but people say they do not se anything..

I do not understand why A-net is expecting courtyard to be playable map in ranker arenas…. there are 4 maps that follow certain pattern of capturing points which involves builds designed to hold point and survive for 30-60 seconds vs 2 players till help comes. Those build are totally, utterly, completely and all the words I can’t think of now, useless in that map. And since there is no build saver atm this is total b*lls**t… I go there with build designed to 1v1 or to holding and there we go, game is 4v5. Also the first one to win a teamfight is likely the winner of the match since there is no way to comeback with outplayed pure dpsing…
Just remove that map… Even Skyhammer has more sense in it… And don’t wait till some seasons and stuff… This is just kittened situation

That’s a shame. I came back to gw2 pvp when i heard they had ranked tdm. The map needs work but the inclusion of it, spiritwatch and skyhammer (really fun now that cannon is nerfed) makes for varied and fun pvp. I’m so bored of capture point and the only fun map i enjoy is legacy (as it facilitates the best team fights). Ill probably leave again once seasons start if these maps are removed.
So my personal plea to devs is please keep varied game modes in ranked queue so i don’t have to play khylo (by far the most boring and longest map) so much.

That map is one of the reasons I haven’t tried the new PvP system yet. Deathmatch is terrible. No tactics, no strategy, just stomping. I really hope they put that game mode away again, it had a good place in custom arenas, it should stay there.
I would like to see TDM in a separate Que. Courtyard is not fun for me. I enjoy conquest, the tactics involved and would like to keep it purely conquest. courtyard should be returned to custom arenas where the niche gameplay modes thrive, like 1v1 duel arenas etc.
Courtyard is fine. Any team that loses by more than 400 points is going to lose no matter what map it is. Although I think giving bonus points for killing the opposing player with the ‘most kills’/‘least deaths’ sounds interesting.

GW2 should manual setup games, so that those twitch streamers get into a team with a bunch of newbs and set them up against a bunch of experts and watch there twitch stream of that guy RAAAAAAAAAGING.
Like one of those preppy popular kid streams, should set him up with a bad matchup if he solo ques. Force all his teammates to the duo que and force them to accept leaving him all by himself vs 5 experts. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!! Game after game too, in order to intensify the RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!! That’s how you get viral videos!
WoW is most notable for that viral video of the leeroy jekins raid. All it takes is 1 viral video to greatly promote a game.
The biggest problem with this map is the fact that if there’s a leaver on either side, the match is very likely to go 500-0 and the losing team gets absolutely nothing, which is frustrating when you sit in queue for 5 minutes to waste another 10 getting smashed because of the 4v5.
But this is probably intended by anet.
All that has to be done is to add “rounds”, set to respawn everybody at a certain point in time (i.e. @ 100 points). Pretty much every fps game made after the 1990s knows this.
Courtyard is the only map worth playing right now, I hope we see more maps like this in the future.
The problem is not the map but the kittened respawn time, just make it 3 round annihilation, problem fixed. At least WoW did some things right.
As I have seen this map played out it is literally a small zerg vs small zerg. This is World vs. World. You join WvW and end up seeing this regularly except that its on a larger scale with a much larger amount of room to work with. This map is too small not Allowing players to move about and position themselves. It is simply a circle with a few outcrops of rocks to LoS(line of sight=obstruted). Any players whose game play is about fighting from afar(rangers/eles/ zerker mesmers) are forced to play a different style than the way they want to. When this game was made it was made for people who wanted to play the way they want to and with this map on the ranked que premade teams pick it over anything else due to the fact that solo que and team que no longer exists. This causes aggravation to players who only ran solo. I guess I am trying to say is give us back solo que with out this crap map.
Courtyard is awesome, great map. But how about make 5-10 more maps and give deathmatch a independent queue with an independent leaderboards. The game is already unbalanced for conquest mode dont see what would be the problem of death match.
the fun part is that team with most guards and engis still wins even on this map….. crate is just garanteed death to someone which is garaneted 4v5 → garanteed win in 99% cases

After having a few good matches, I actually like this map. I think people may just need to learn how to play it and group up after wipes.
Of course, it would be better if the map was changed to function through some sort of round system, or resurrections could be staggered more.
