Guild Wars 2

Hi everyone,

I kinda returned to the game for the expansion, I played a bit at the launch of the original game, a few months, and I never played pvp back then. Long story short, I started to get bored again and figured I’d try pvp for a change.
I dont know if this is supposed to be happening but basically all the servers that have any people on them are just doing farming in the middle, mostly on skyhammer and nothing else.
I was trying to get some capture points here and there and actually play the game as it is supposed to be, but it didnt seem practical in that environment. Is that really all there is in pvp? 95% of servers dead with nobody on them, the rest is just farming?

Now obviously I am a noob, only been playing pvp for like 2 days but I dont find this experience too satisfying.

Is there any way to get some real games? at least try? please? or is that the big guild wars 2 pvp experience, and that’s it?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

PvP should by this point be bigger than it ever was. Beside that there are 3 important points:

1) Noone that wants to play serious 5vs5 games joins any of those numbered Servers in hotjoin. Those will only make you sad. Use unranked arena instead (no matter what your skill lvl is)

2) What you currently have is people everywhere running around like beheaded chickens trying to scram Halloween, PvE-Story, Masteryfarm, WvW and PvP into 1,5 weeks.. so it might feel dead at times? don’t know.. I’m one of those chickens.

3) PvP might also feel weard because we just had the expansion and balance isn’t reached yet.

I personally feel like SH was a flop. I no longer queue for it, which is probably the case for many others. I don’t feel like babysitting door breakers and “champions”. that’s not why I play ARPG’s.

conquest I think is gonna be really hot when leagues start up. i hope they invest resources to make more maps like Foefire. that’s where it’s at.

Because nobody enjoys being one-shot constantly by DH.

this is so far from the real issues, it’s laughable.

Elite specs are so powerful than most base specs that having a base spec is a handicap (most scenarios), stronghold its lame, babysit the npcs and kill another npc, pve with some pvp, no ranked means skyhammer, spirit watch, courtyard and on top of that you have to deal with legacy of foefire too! Plus insane server lag spikes and people rage quitting in almost every match

You are doing hotjoin. Which is practice/fool around/farm/whatever pvp. If you want to get matched against opponents, do unranked. When leagues start ranked will be in again, bringing in new and old players.

I for one really like SH. I never liked just fighting over circles in conquest. SH needs tweaking but it’s a good concept. I love the moba inspired theme. If anything, they need to embrace the moba genetics a bit more.

Honestly two things:
1. New content is everywhere and even Hardcore PvPers are playing things (be it halloween or new maps or masteries or w/e
2. PvP Ballence is horrible and the meta builds are anti fun right now. The power creep makes me want to play pve until the next balance patch or not play at all. Between Scrappers stuns, Invuln up-time, and ability to run when things go south. DH ridiculous burst CC and sustain. Druids BS, chronos daze slow and stun spam galor, and all the rest of the AOE layered onto this.

If it wasn’t for the removal of that amulet I wouldn’t have even came back to PvP this patch broke balance worse than it was… and lets be honest the previous patch wasn’t great either.

That and the queue times are 5+ minutes for unranked, I cant play ranked, Stronghold split queue etc etc.

There’s so many reasons not to pvp right now its no wonder its low pop

Truth: sooooooo many casuals

The hardcore PvPers left ages ago, except the few that login on Sundays and for quarterly tournaments for their small stipend and ANet’s gratitude for being the proverbial hamster-in-the-machine keeping PvP alive on life support.

I play plenty of pvp…is it the time you logon? Just guessing, but I play at all times and get regular games.

So honestly, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

However the state of pvp at the moment is a joke.

bec pvp aint fun no more. u like my dbl negatives? played one match today, one match yday, 7 the day before….keeps going downhill. not sure if i’ll even log in tmrw.

PvP was fun before HoT, now im getting chilled like crazy by reapers, stunlocked oneshotted by dragonhunters, heralds are just ugh, and stronghold is just a really boring escort mission

Because there need to be some more balance patches before it becomes fun again.

You seem to be in hot join. Join unranked. And then when you can do ranked.

balance is the worst it’s ever been.

All u queue against is Dh,reaper,reaper, x , x….. so sick of it

around from 11pm onwards (UK time). However as others have pointed out I was only playing this hotjoin servers, well, that’s what the pvp guide showed me in a youtube video, but apparently there are other ways, so I will explore them tonight, thanks everyone
