Going round and round on this. The lord and guards balance seem pretty good in 5v5. If the numbers were increased then I think they would need to be as well. That said before trying a 10v10 I wouldn’t mind seeing a 6v6 or 8v8 version.

Remember the map is chosen after players have joined the match. For them to increase the number of players in a game they would need to give stronghold its own queue which the devs seem reluctant to do. (fairly so since its just one map atm)

The amount of things to do simultaneously breaks the 5 man cap but I would say 6-8 people would be better than 10.

Half or more of the classes can easily go in and solo the lord in a matter of seconds.

Not to mention the archers are completely useless.

Definitely. I wouldn’t say half but all class can go and solo it. It’s really an issue when people queue solo. The lord at least needs some buff, archers actually do more damage than him.

Can the lord be soloed, I am sure, but everyone I saw that tried died. Add in a defender and didn’t see any walk away.

So if we are seeing mixed results, that means the starting value isn’t in a bad place. I also saw players drop from archer fire when they completely ignored them, was it from solo fire, no, but the NPCs did drop them. Didn’t get a chance to check damage logs across various armor classes and builds so don’t have any details on power levels.

Man, if they really died to this lord that deals almost no damage, I don’t understand how people like that can fight other players. Honestly, if you’re 1v1 or alone at enemy lord, there’s basically nothing to stop you other than losing your 1v1. Every class can take him down, even though some classes are better suited for it.

Spent some of the test time on defense which is where I was able to see how people did. Didn’t get a chance to discuss with the people that were downed what builds they were running. Might be nice if there is another beta for it to be in hotjoin so that we can check peoples setups when they fight the lord.

Don’t get me wrong, if he needs boosting then I hope they do. Hoping that they used numbers to get a feel for changes in the power and toughness of the NPCs. I want the lord to need a few to take him down. But we need to remember it should be the players that make the difference vs the NPCs.

Wow really you want 10v10?? that would just be a giant mess.

1st off – Moba’s – 5v5 – 3 lanes – Doing fine
Gw2 – 2 lanes…. also attack and defence lanes have been split up for you.

5v5 is fine – you’re meant to be challenged and not be able to get to every hero or have someone sit on the treb all day.

That said it is possible to get every hero but if the other team is decent then its challenging.

I believe someone rightly stated before if you wanted to zerg with 10v10 go to wvw. (the only 10v10 rooms which are in Pvp are Daily rooms for a reason).

Do people really like 4v4 and 5v5 fights? People already get that at start of middle and Lord bouts.

I’m quite content with my occasional 1v1/2v2’s and rare 3v3’s. I don’t need 4v4 and 5v5 zerg fests everywhere I go… 10v10 sounds horrible.

I came to the same conclusion after the second match, there is simply too much to do for a 5v5 and I’d rather see the player cap rise to the suggested 8v8 to compensate.

You can kill the Lord in 5 minutes or faster. If you wipe a team they can respond to defense rapidly. You raise player cap and the map will stalemate even more than it does currently. Which is quite often when teams are somewhat evenly match. Besides the actual areas you fight in aren’t large.

There are already 8v8 custom arenas (that are mostly empty nowadays) so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did have some options for 8v8 stronghold matches.

Not really, there used to be bigger matches but they got rid of it because maps were too small. I don’t think Stronghold is that much bigger and I would definitely be against playing stronghold 10v10. It also makes it harder to balance teams and since Stronghold doesn’t really seem to favour soloq, it would be unplayable 10v10. It’s fun because it’s new but I can’t see myself enjoying it when queuing solo, you need the voice com for this. It’s also pretty frustrating when half of the pugs won’t bother defending lord, so 10v10 would be really horrible from this point of view.

This map has potential. I had fun in it, got rolled badly, but was more looking at the options than anything else. Where fights are, utilizing supply, taking out the enemy hero and attacking players. It definitely offers a lot. I’d like less 1v1 or 1v2’s though… and to be able to build for offence and defence teams. Something like 6 or 8 would be great and allow some good theory crafters and builders to have fun.

Willing to pay for boxed expansion if you put legit GvG in the box $$

7 vs. 7 or 8 vs. 8. Anything more is too much for such a small map, anything less is a little boring.

Some feedback though: it didn’t really feel like Guild vs. Guild because of 5v5 and the small map size. If it was 2x the size and 2x the people, it might come closer to GvG.

The whole point of this mode is to have you chose between different options, to make you chose what you think is the most optimal way to win, not a giant clusterkitten with people doing everything at once on the map.

Unless they took it out in one of the last couple updates there are still 8v8 servers hosted by Anet. They used to be very popular and were actually a lot of fun if you were just kittening around… imo of course. For some reason now they aren’t as populated and I haven’t seen one full in quite some time.

5v5 is definitely too few for the map and the game-mode… 8v8 sounds like a sweet spot.
