Why is it in the soloQ still? Everytime I play it map/team chat is filled with moans and groans
Here are my problems.
1. Heavy CC classes (engineers, necromancers, and other classes with lots of CC) are ate a HUGE advantage. Not only with taking sky hammer and points, but also coordinating with skyhammer fires.
2. Heavy mobility classes are at a huge advantage. You’re so squished in most of the fights except for mid point because you can’t move either from a wall, a hole, or the edge of hte map. Then a sky hammer fires and fills the entire area
3. Skyhammer is really strong. Combined with 1 and 2, skyhammer can be dominated farily easily and it is very frustrating to combat.
I like the idea of jumppads, but the holes in the ground, horrible designed side points, and skyhammer/skyhammer platform being horrible designed makes this map more of a dread than fun.
I refuse to play skyhammer map in tpvp anymore, it is just a waste of time.
I don’t care what the penalty is, even if my account got deleted- I will just quit this map whenever it pops.

If u dont want to play the map dont play soloq simple yes. I dont like all the maps / a bunch of players/bad builds. But when i sign up i would smash my keyboard just to win. Afk is not an option.

I don’t afk, I shut down the game and go and do something else.
Either get rid of Skyhammer from arena or at least give us an easier way to change spec/equipment.
I realize that some specs are obviously better than others on skyhammer but it’s hard to bother with short timer and the unnecessarily difficult ways to change gear/traits
This would be a easy fixed with build/gear templates. We really need some as it would just improve the quality of life in pvp.

when we asked for more maps we didn’t ask for stupidly unbalanced map that’s forced into our throats. either make it better or give us a way around it like templates/quick spec changes
I agree: I’m tired of being forced to mindlessly spam my hammer on the cannon. I constantly avoid hammer builds not to give a fair battle to my opponents, and then Skyhammer comes and makes me feel useless unless I use it.
It’s not about learning to adapt. It’s about narrowing down options.
Like… worsening the game in a particular map.

A thief in stealth with scorpion wire has no effective counter play. And yes, classes with knockback and fear spam dominate skyhammer.

+1 fk this map. I afk when this map happans in solo q so i get kicked and can play another match. Sorry to another players but there is no reason to play on rly bad map, where one factor decides about end score.

everything in spvp is designed to be anoying – i dont know why but atleast it looks like. Fun was NEVER a goal.

this ugly maps should be restricted to hotjoin, especially skyhammer, which is ridiculous.
Seems like everytime I hotjoin guess what…it’s skyhammer. I leave it to join another, and either I catch the tail end of one and the next is skyhammer or it lands me in a skyhammer again right away. Its been popping in the rotation much more frequently lately. The map is already horrible to deal with, why is it showing up even more now?
I even just got it twice in a row. Thought that wasn’t supposed to be possible?
Spirit Watch is a decent map. there’s nothing really bad about it tbh
If it is hotjoin you are talking about, what you need to do is choose which server to play on in the browser. If you choose a server that is currently playing spirit watch or temple of the silent storm you will be right for a few games before skyhammer pops again (skyhammer comes after Capricorn in the hotjoin rotation and is followed by spirit watch).
If you are talking about solo join tournament then the map selection is just random and there is nothing you can do about it.
If you don’t know the difference between hotjoin/solo queue let me know, it might be confusing if you don’t play spvp much.

Yeh, it is also the purest map with the least standing on a point BS. You can get right out of spawn and just have a big fight. It is fun and I only play this game for fun.

A lot of people leave when Capricorn comes up. As such, a lot of people autojoin when Skyhammer follows.

It must be bugged. Just to be safe I would recommend anet delete skyhammer from tournaments because this might be causing the issue you have seen in hotjoin.

I don’t like either maps, but I understand some people like them. So I won’t really call for their total removal from the solo arena. I’m kitten glad that they don’t exist in team arena though.
Spirit watch is kinda blah. I don’t really care about it either way. Skyhammer definitely should be a hotjoin only map.
A style like Halo, where you vote for the maps might be cool.

Spirit watch is good. Some few things need to be addressed like Guardian orb runners. Apart from that it is an excellent small scale map.

There isn’t rly a map in pvp, I rly “hate” (maybe except of capricorn).
However, I just think, spirit watch and skyhammer are even more “rewarding” for bunkers, as carrying the orb / fighting on skyhammer requires a certain amount of sustain and stability.
Concidering the fact, that conquest in general has become some kind of “bunker-wars”, I just think, those two maps are bad for solo q, as you have (almost) no possbility to influence your team setup and teams which are lucky and get a very bunkerish setup have a huge advantage.

Good for small scale. It is a change from the midfight meta.
Just get rid of skyhammer, spirit watch is fine. Skyhammer rewards someone with a fear, push or pull and can spam them, not someone with actual skill.

In order to avoid playin skyhammer in soloQ u have to stand afk for 4 min. Just go to your brawser, eatch some porn or hentai then enjoy game

I’ve suggested this in the other forum section, skyhammer should be dodgable. It’s too strong to not be dodgable, as it is it’s impossible to hold a point against an enemy getting helped by it.

Sky-hammer is simply a gimmick kb, fear, or yank map that revolves around holding a key point. If you do not hold that point then you cannot cap and you cannot hold that point unless you spend the whole match launching people off a cliff or through glass etc I never get in with a team that can manage the map even if i can wrestle control of the sky-hammer. If i don’t get control of it, no other teammates try and I can’t cap without being blasted to death by it.
If people like the map, probably the same type of people who enjoy pvp spawn camping and gank squads, that’s fine for them.
Personally I will not play that map. Since switching characters to leave the map doesn’t work, so when it comes up [which seems way too often btw] I exit gw2 and play lotro or some other game and return to pvp later. If there were an option to pass on that map when Q pops, it would completely solve all these problems.
On a side note, I noticed that I can switch to my Mesmer when that map pops up and calibrate sky-hammer right before the match starts, lay down a portal and when the match does start I can portal back to a calibrated sky-hammer and use temporal curtain to yank people of the edges or into a broken glass as they enter. I noticed that doing this takes absolutely no skill what so ever. I would just rather not play a Mesmer or screw people over with such an exploit.

I forgot to mention the dishonorable status duration. I will leave sky-hammer every time this broken systems tries to force me into it. A 3 day ban from pvp for doing that will not encourage me or people like me to waste my time by staying in such a match, in fact such a long duration on the only part of this game that still has me partially interested in it will just end up making me and those like me jump on board with a different game.
I have spent a lot of time and money on gw2 and a lot on time on gw1, but extremely long unjust punishments seems like enough to make anyone frustrated enough to abandon such a flawed system. I know that a lot of Guild Wars 2 is still in development and obviously not perfected yet, but that’s all the more reason to not hand out such long punishments as we will likely just end up being punished for the failures of the gw2 staff. If the goal of the gw2 staff is to keep people interested in content and encourage them to play and purchase gems etc, arbitrarily handing out such punishments for such lengths of time in such unjust situations would seem to be one step shy of telling your fan base that you hate them and never want to see them again. People might actually hate unjust punishments more than you think.
Now for this 3 day pvp ban for no fault of my own, I probably won’t quit gw2 completely. In fact I’m pretty sure that I’ll check in every 6 months or so and see if things are fixed yet. I’m pretty sure that something like this would have to happen at least twice for me to give up gw2 permanently. It is in my opinion one of the best mmos currently available but to counter that, unjust punishment is the quickest way to make me change that opinion. The second quickest way would be to try to force me into a broken mechanic with noway to pass or leave. Today both of these things happened and the second repeatedly. Evertime I tried to pvp t would be sky-hammer and everytime I would just exit to deak top and come back later [ I suppose thats why I got the day pvp ban] but as I stated in my original thought, an option to pass on that map would have been an easy fix and I know that staff has been aware of that map being problematic for sometime now, so honestly I believe that it is staffs fault that I was forced to leave those matches.
To me, a pass option would have been an effective method to solve these issues when they were 1st brought to the forums. In fact I would say that it would qualify as a common sense solution kind of like a “don’t blow dye your hair in the bathtub” kind of common sense but in all fairness it seems that common sense is anything but common these days.
Ah well, what can you do =) Anyway have fun and I’ll check back in game around July to see if its still broke =p

You’re proving the point of OP. We join tournaments to be serious and competitive, not laughing. If we wanted to be 12 years old and laughing at people falling and abusing a completely broken map we would be playing minecraft.

The best part about having multiple accounts is that I can just log out everytime I get skyhammer and que for another. Apologies about all the 4v5’s =/
I actually don’t mind it at all. Its actually a refreshing map, makes you think about your positioning and tactics, and most importantly be wary of your opponents skills that can knock you off the ledge.
That’s really all there is too it, figure out which class has CC abilities that can knock you off and anticipate a dodge/stability wild in return giving them the same medicine. When I go in as Warrior I change one of my utility for knock back as for Thief I go with Scorpion Wire. Figure it out it can be really fun.
I agree on Spirit Watch as well even though I like that map. Most groups I get into ignore the orb and focus cap everything in sight expecting to win, then get confused when the team that didn’t cap anything wins the match because they ran orbs as a group. So, yeah maybe for maps like that they should make a separate category for and for mandatory maps they should focus on more standard style of pvp premise. The only one that I cannot stand however is sky-hammer.
I’d like to open a discussion about the removal of Skyhammer from Official Solo Tournament Play, as well as any future tournament type play. In my opinion the unlevel terrain, edgeless map, random holes in the ground, and easily exploited mechanics and points have made a lot of people frustrated, and a lot of players who play to exploit, very happy.
In my opinion farming glory, and learning how to push and pull people into holes, shouldn’t be a part of the official tournament maps of Guild Wars 2. Lets make a good example of listening to your community and doing whats right. Remove Skyhammer from official play. Players learn nothing and gain no skill while being rewarded for exploiting.
Being on both ends of the spectrum and knocking players off the edge, and being knocked off, it does not involve any skill or use of skill to stand in a spot and press a button. You are literally letting players press one button and have that determine an entire battle. That is not balance. I’ve been concerned about how unbalanced and how terrible of a map this has been for a long time, and then I found out not to long ago that players were even exploiting it to gain rank.
Listen to your community. Remove Skyhammer. It’s layed out poorly. You need walls in Guild Wars 2 PvP. This is Player vs Player. Not Player vs Environment vs Player. If that’s what you want it to be, then call it that. A giant laser has no business being mixed in with focused players trying to time skills, gain position, and play the game correctly. You add that in with people who exploit the fact that every player isn’t running triple stability, and it makes you want to go play another game. This is official tournament pvp. Lets go ahead and play on maps that are official and not ones you can fall of the edge of or die from a giant laser. Thanks.

I think the holes and knock out are fine, but that laser on the hand isn’t. That blast is large enough to cover the entire point and can’t be evaded. There was a reason why it was taken out of Team Arenas
I will have a video up in a few minutes….it will be a good demonstration on WHY this garbage should be removed from the rotation…
Before it is uploaded, I will give a quick rundown:
I get pulled into a pit by Scorpion Wire, hit the ground and take no damage….to find another one of my allies also down underneath the map with me.
Essentially the team is now 2 players down, and the match starts to snowball, so we give up and run around below the map for the rest of the time pretty much. (yes, we could let the worms kill us, but we all just want the match to end so we don’t have to play the kitten map anymore.)
The fact that it happened is one thing, but this is just not supposed to even be FEASIBLE in tournaments…this is complete garbage through and through.
Buggy, untested, unreliable, and more-or-less hated by the community, yet they leave it in for a reason they won’t tell us. Perhaps they just enjoy watching what remains of their community get kitten ed off at their lack of transparency and proper testing.

It’s very buggy and gimmicky. I’ve discovered a new bug well at least for me… The cannon console spawns shifted 90degrees making it so you can’t hit point C. It ends up saying out of range when you try target that area my guess is the cannon is set to fire within a certain range. Then there is a bug where you fall through the map into the water. Last bug I know of is trying to enter cannon console room it puts you in then kicks you out to the gate immediately.
Good luck getting them to remove this map we’ve been making posts about it since it was released….
this is a map designed to just mess around in with friends…not competitive play. simple as that.
