You don’t actually have to kill the clones. Just dodge when they all run at you.
Phantasms look like ghosts. You may or may not want to kill them, but that’s easy.
The real mesmer is the one who actually moves like a human player.
Sic ‘Em is a pretty good skill.
Entangle is a pretty good skill, even if it doesn’t seem that way to you right now.
Have you tried, like, just Rapid-Shotting the mesmer?

necros are fine.. rangers are fine. warriors, guardians, even eles. i had good fights against all these classes. Everyone complains about turret engies but seriously i never called bullkitten on an engineer that beat me. stop hating engineers and start hating mesmers because this spam class is a nuisance through and through for anybody.. a fun class idea turned inconvenient and frustrating. visual effects that fill up your entire screen for example..

Here, look:
Target drops due to stealth.
Count to three.
Click on the new one that appears. Or tab through until you see the one that has any boons on it, or the one who actually moves laterally or dodges or whatever. (Yeah, yeah, it’s sometimes annoying, I know. Welcome to GW2. They’re not gonna change this because there’s an entire profession designed around it.)
Burst.
Or just use Sic ‘Em and burst while they’re revealed.
“How can I sustain damage?” You don’t need to. Your opponent is made of paper and a single Rapid Shot burns like half their health!
Some pro tips 4 u op:
if there’s a purple bubble over you don’t rapid fire
target the one with boons (and maybe signets)
if all the clones run at you dodge
use entangle with krait runes on a condi build, the mesmer will have a bad time
bring stability and/or sig of stone

I rarely have any issues with Mesmer with any class i play
Ranger → Sic ’Em → Great Sword Hilt Bash → Rapid Fire → Stomp
Necromancer →bunch of marks → If you use minions blow them up → Stomp
Thief → Basilisk Venom → Steal for Consume Plasma → Kill → Stomp
Guardian → Ring of Warding → Dps down → Stomp

Not with the gimmicky mechanics the professions possess. It should be a trade off of one of the other, not both. In a PvP setting, I’d much rather have a straight up fighting.
Here’s my motto in PvP….
Anything else is cowardly.

Rangers have stealth and immunities, eles have stab tons of healing and immunities, warriors have tons of condi clear, health and armor.
All of these are gimmicky and unfun to fight against. Seriously tho the higher you get in pvp the easier thieves and even more so mesmers become to deal with. Here’s a little insight for u too. Mesmers have not been on a winning team for any major tournament in over a year. So how OP are they really?

I was referring to the various threads where people are asking for X profession to be removed because “It’s too hard” or whatever.
This is the most recent one. But I know I’ve see remove X profession threads at least once.

Mesmer isn’t more braindead broken than Turret Engi for example. But still a very braindead easy class to play.

P.S Maybe stop playing victim saying your class is UP. It’s easy to play atm and buffing it will screw balance.

At the Scrubcake level sure mesmer is easy to play. But at the Scrubcake level there are a bunch of PU mesmers, and condi mesmers. Of course you are gonna hate fighting these guys, but the bigger the fight and the higher up they go in skill. The less useful they become.

Sorry bro, but it totally l2p issue.
Seems you started pvp recently. Read and use tips above to deal with mesmers. With experience you will distinguish real one subconsciously. Most time consuming task would be mouse movement (or tabbing) to mark mesmer, but not search real one.

wasting a skill slot simply to stop invisibility for 6 seconds? seems like a waste, when you ask me to build my character based on a broken, unfair class i occasionally encounter. My main problem doesn’t lie with invisibility itself but the untargeting it does. The big advantage THEY have, is they have the luxury of keeping me targeted throughout an entire fight. Meanwhile im spending half the fight retargetting them over and over again, before i can even do a shred of damage…. it’s a complete waste of my time and skills and they are only winning those fights because im wasting half my skills on air (thanks 400 ping and 1 second delay on skills).
so to them it’s like: doing damage > doing damage > doing damage > doing damage >
for me it’s: doing damage > retarget > doing damage > retarget > doing damage…
get it? it’s too slow, it feels like a huge chore, every time. He’s probably slowing my attack rate by 50% and all he is doing is activating a few skills. oh, but i get 6 seconds of sic em. please..
it’s got to the point where as soon as I see “mesmer” above their heads i turn around and go the other direction.. hope to find a more interesting fight on another cap.
Here’s my solution Anet; When I target my enemy at the beginning of a fight, please KEEP them targeted. I should be focusing my attention on my skills and the combat, not the UI.. these fights feel more like im fighting the game rather than the player. That to me screams BROKEN. Shame on you if you’re playing it.

If L2P is the best argument you can come up with I don’t know why i bother responding to you.
And you say “lowest tiers”, like it doesnt even matter. But what you fail to realize is 99% of the pvp player-base is low tier. So you’re effectively telling me, “oh, this only effects most of the playerbase so it doesn’t matter.”
Maybe invisibility should require a channeling animation. I would call that a lot more fair and is less likely to be abused mid fight. Could even interrupt it.. just give us something so we can counter it.. not “Sic em”, which at best was a lazy attempt at creating a counter to invisiblity.

i’m not going to explain to you how to fight a mesmer, it should be simple enough. just about any build you can come up with on a ranger will shut down a mesmer, regardless of their personal skill. however, i would like to point some things out(speaking as a ranger main):
longbow – single target damage. POINTLESS
longbows are literally anti-mesmer: you can hit outside of their maximum range, rapid fire tracks through stealth, barrage slows their already low mobility and breaks their illusions, and it has insanely high burst that totally punishes mesmers literallyno sustain.
shortbow – single target damage. POINTLESS
shortbows, being a condition weapon(and having an on-demand evade, interrupt, and poison) is very anti-mesmer. sure, you’re in their attack range with a shortbow, but they can’t cleanse the constant bleeds
Axe – bounces multiple targets, kitten damage. POINTLESS
except the might that it applies, the chill and bleed shotgun, etc. it should be noted that basically every mesmer doesn’t take any condition cleanse, a mainhand axe can and will cripple them
Greatsword – single target damage, slow. POINTLESS
2/5 skills are single target, the rest cleave. maul in particular will 1 shot any illusion
Sword – single target damage. target dodges, goes invisible. POINTLESS
sword’s autoattack cleaves and sticks to its target, has 2 evades, and a poison that EVERY CLASS EVER WOULD LOVE TO HAVE, literally our best melee weapon
Entangle – Thief and Mesmers completely immune to my control. POINTLESS
since when are either of these classes immune to control? are you confusing mesmers and thiefs for guardians and warriors?
Pet. POINTLESS
sic ‘em, knockdowns, fears, chills.. i know it has a hard time chasing running targets, but it’s far from useless

I would say most of the playerbase figures “Oh, they can do something I can’t because they’re playing a different class than I am. I probably have things I can do that they can’t. Maybe I can use those to beat them?”
Sure, things can be difficult for them, but I would venture a guess that most players can figure out that there are things they can do to improve PvP matchups outside of screaming for their enemies to just be deleted.

Plzzz listen to Drakortha.6974. He makes a valid point & total sens. Mesmers are so confusing it’s hard to know wich to hit. I know i know, They bin super nerf multiple times for the last 3 years but it’s not anoth. They need to be re-nerfed & after that..nerfed again. Till there spam no more clone burst. Infact they should not even spam at all. they should be spamless. I’m serious!

Proposing to take content (in this case, an entire profession) out of the game because you found it too difficult without even asking for advice just leads us all down the garden path to a truly bland experience.

It’s not really a joke. Anet threw the idea out there about a year ago in either the State of The Game, or A Ready Up Episode. It was gonna be the same time they nerfed vigor, etc. So yeah.

I spend enough time as it is getting mauled by your bloody ranger pets and stupid 1 spam while trying to close the gap to a ranger to know that your class is in an excellent position versus mine. My only hope to kill you is not connected to burst at all, it is entirely connected to being able to Line of Sight you and hoping my phantasms can chew you to about 50% health and then that I am lucky enough to interrupt your heal skill while your running away to proc CI and be able to finish you off. Stealth does not really change anything, as mesmer still has limited access to it, namely a 30 second cooldown on torch. Now if it was a thief’s stealth then I would have time for your complaints, but at this point it is simply a case that you found yourself against a player who understood and could react better to the changing situation between the two of you in your engagement. As they say, your problem is Pebkac, or Problem exists between keyboard and chair.

Put your pet on passive, once you have pressed f1 it keeps going after the real mesmer even after stealth. It helps alot, also asume they burst out of stealth so keep moving and try and anticipate there burst and dodge. I hated mesmers until i played one, and understoud them better, so that helps aswell, though if i fight 2 mesmers ill just cry in acorner.
