proposals:

left button = practice button = practice arena = current unranked arena
players who want to play hotjoin can use the game browser to check out the official anet hotjoin servers and player owned custom arenas.


middle button = random arena = previous solo arena
however, match making will be completely random, hence, random arena, this way queue time will be non existent.

the random arena match making quickly grabs the first 10 players who are queuing for random arena, and then shuffles the 10 players into 2 teams in such a manner, so that both teams have equal number of high MMR and low MMR players.

then match prediction calculates the winning % of each team and the match begins.


right button = challenge arena = new team arena (see below)

anyway, only full teams can participate in this.

and once a full team queued in challenge arena, they can browse a list of teams currently queued in the challenge arena.

then your team can proceed to challenge other teams.

teams stronger than yours cannot refuse the challenge.
teams weaker than yours can refuse the challenge.

Yes. Although I don’t know if Team Arena would really need a matching system like that. The old system would be fine.

but in the old team arena, the queue time seems to be very long, and the fights quality are not very good either, it is usually full teams stomping pug teams.

I think that the GW2 “problem” is that the skill difference is HUGE between an average MMO player, and a highly “twitch-skilled” player who has been playing FP shooters and street fighter games for 10 years or more. This is due to both the GW2 game mechanics and the team coordination and reactive strategies needed for Conquest maps.

They want to develop GW2 as an elite ESport. That means they have to keep the high-skilled players interested in the game. And that means feeding them solo PUGs when there is no one else for them to play against.

hmmm aye, this is correct. gw2 ’s conquest mode is actually not very noob friendly and pug friendly.

because it actually requires everyone to be aware of what is going on in the whole map. and the small default size of the mini map is not helping.

by the way, where are all the people who has been asking for hotjoin to be removed gone to?

because what i am proposing here effectively removes the hotjoin button.

at the moment, the practice button does not practice but simply engage in team stacking wars & auto balance wars.
