[Fix] Ranger Sword - Auto-attack root
excellent suggestions
Kreen – Warrior L80, Mono Lith – Guardian L80
Higgsbosun – Thief L80, Silvron – Ranger L80.
Thank you, hoping it gets some more attention.
How is not being able to dodge/stop auto attack not an issue in PvP or WvW? I’m curious….
Anyway, yes, the AA needs a change probably.

its a big issue tbh, not being able to dodge when i need too, is usually how i die.

Hmm. I agree with point 1. But not fully with point 2.
2. Disagreed. You can already make it a fight opener.
Turn around → Hornet sting → Turn around → Monarch leap.
If this was switched, it will make getting away really clunky.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

And as it is, opening with it is really clunky. It’s clunky for one of them either way.
What if the first skill did a (very fast) attack in front of you and, if it hit nothing, you leaped forward, then got the rollback skill afterwards, and if the attack hit, you rolled backwards and got the leap skill afterwards?
We do open missions every Sunday night.
Contact Mistoffelees in game if you’re interested.
Play your Ranger. Don’t let it play you and then go asking for a nerf.

The idea behind sword #2 attack is to be able to move away from a big attack, miss getting hit, then moving back in to fight quickly. It may not be a real evade dodge, but you can’t get hit if your not in range of the attack.
As for #1 attack (AA), I believe the intent it to turn off the auto attack function so each consecutive attack can be used strategically. After all, one of those attacks is a gap closer.
So CTRL+RightClick and disable it. No reason this should be Anets problem to solve. As I said, learn to play your Ranger, don’t let it play you.

Disabling auto-attack as I have said is a work around not a fix, constant button mashing is not something everyone enjoys Necrid. It is a fault by Anet ‘learn to play your Ranger, don’t let it play you’, I’m sorry but that’s just silly.
Not as big an issue in WvW/PvP because you do not have as many giant one shotting AoEs to dodge(unless you’re zerging ofcourse) and it is much easier to move around and just time the first skill with auto-attack turned off, not many melee in PvP/WvW with auto-attack anyway.
However in PvE, during dungeons and fractals, mashing 1 is just a pain and during a boss fight not being able to dodge out of the AoE makes the sword fairly unappealing.

It’s the only #1 skill in the game that requires turning off AA to use correctly. I don’t want carpal tunnel, this is Anet’s problem to solve. As the OP said, it’s a workaround.
Take a step, hit V to dodge if you need to, Or use skill#2 which will override your autoattack. I play ranger quite often and there is seriously nothing wrong with ranger swords.
Also, Thieves benefit from disabling autoattack as well.
Again, you’re in control of your ranger. There is nothing forcing you to continue attacking.
If anything needs to be changed about skill 1, it’s that you shouldn’t do a double-leap if you slay the creature with skill#1-1 and then move on to 1-2 which procs twice with no strike and you can end up falling to your doom if near an edge.
