Let me mess it up.
So today ANet changed website and announced upcoming update for 28th January.

The horses are in the focal plan of illustrated graphics. I know many players asked for mounts. We shall see if they will bring any and make what players wished so much. If no, well save your time by refraining of typing “we want houses” (also it will reduce erase of letters on keys). Majority of new MMOs have houses. Capital cities in GW2 can be great place to have them as instances.

They have already said they won’t be bringing mounts in this update. Also, please stay on topic, I really don’t care for or want mounts.

I know. Don’t you think it is sarcastic to post in first plan mounted motif on upcoming update for a game without mounts? ANet is detached a lot. I am personally not eager to get mount. Not my thing. But so many players do want it. My point it, mount wishes have been so numerous on these forums and they are not happening. Now, many people asking for housing. What makes you think they will listen to anybody and make housing?

Player Housing and additionally Guild Towns on the other hand do improve the game. The whole game is about Guilds and yet we don’t seem to have any special Guild features… which is quite lame imo. There should be some kind of incentive why you would actually want to be in a guild, e.g. cause you can ‘live’ (as far as it’s possible in a game) in a town with mates, cause you can play events in that town etc.

No, no, I repeat, I am not found of mounts and with waypoints I think mounts are not needed in this game. I just point out that many players asked for it and that ANet is depicted mounted riders with upcoming release. I really doubt there will ever be any mounts in GW2 but I really think it is a sarcasm from ANets side if they depict upcoming update without mounts.

There I drag parallel with housing – players ask for it. Also, guild halls have been asked. Like, we could have it in the capital cities (except LA) and make those places long forgotten live again. We could organize duels in houses and guild halls as well GvG fights. And I really doubt any of it will happen. ANet think they solve everything with 5v5 SPvP fights and renting servers from them.

They already said they plan on having housing and guild halls eventually. I’m sure they have a prioritized list of things that they are working on. We will have housing and guild halls when they become higher on the priority list.

Meanwhile, suggestions on what we would like might influence the what the housing and guild halls are like both in location, function, and cosmetics.

Guild Halls:

I would like guild halls to be designed to enhance the community of the guild. Obviously they need to be cosmetically appealing and have amenities to make them a worthwhile investment of resources. I would prefer that they not be out of the reach of small guilds. Perhaps there could be tiers of halls much like the guild bank.

Housing:

I don’t want a static home that you cannot personalize. I don’t know that you can achieve the level of housing that EQ2 has developed, but that type housing is achieves a long term commitment to your house with an investment of both time and resources. You would have to add a carpenter crafting profession, or better yet, add recipes to each profession to support this.

I find the housing in many other games to be boring and lost interest in it immediately. For example the housing in Aion and Lotro were not worth paying the rent to me.

My thought on housing is, either make it great and creative and something you want to spend time adding to or don’t bother with it at all. Mediocre player housing just won’t keep peoples interest.

Well they said some stuff about Guild missions here, could be they add some sort of Guild House/Player House feature in too:
“To that end, we’re working on adding new types of content to the game in early 2013 that will allow guilds to go on missions together. Some of these missions may be content designed specifically for the guild to accomplish within certain constraints or time requirements, while others will see the creation of new content by a guild/s everyone in the world can experience. Over time we’ll continue to expand this system with new guild rewards, missions, and tools to allow guilds of all sizes to play a stronger part in solidifying the communities of the GW2 world.”

This is more of a fanboyish hope but maybe one day we could get statues or tapestries to display the big achievements in our Home District or player housing.

Stuff like finding your sister, solving your personal regrets, forging the pact, taking down the Dragon leutenants for the first time, etc. I know that certain NPCs show up in our home instance at the moment and that’s a good first step towards my dream.

Though there is one thing I really hope they do.
Allow us to transport back to our home instance at 0 cost
Even a very reduced cost (barely a copper or two) would be appreciated for us higher level folks so far away from home. There would be an actual reason to come back home given that kind convenience.

If it’s getting implemented, the things you could perhaps get, or the size of your house should be linked with your achievements and the amount of achievement points I think. And achievement points should in general have a place in player housing. Why else get the achievement points? So far i see no merit in getting achievement points.

Player housing is fun for role players, but it should also be interesting for others, like “farmers”. If you add things to your house, like a garden where you can harvest some of a certain plant daily, it will give many people a purpose to actually use it. I’m sure there are a lot of ways to make housing interesting for many.

If GW2 adds housing (don’t even know if they ever will, since i never seen them say they would), they will most likely make it so that everyone’s house acts as a personal instance like with your home instance now.

Great idea retsuko, never thought of using achievement points as a currency. I know we’re getting laurels but all my achievement points are kinda just sitting there, To be honest I’m not even sure what they mean or why I should want them.

It’s honestly one of my biggest pet peeves to hear people say “its unnecessary so don’t add it.” Honestly the game as a whole is 100% unnecessary so why have it?

You’re missing the point. What they mean is “it’s unnecessary for our maximum monetary gain”.

Which still of course in case of GW2 could be totally wrong because there is a ton of stuff they could sell in the CS for player housing.

I’m all for player housing and anything even remotely sandbox in this anguishing time of themepark MMOs.

Imo we should just keep the most important demands active so Anet sees them. That is also what I am doing. Player housing is one of them, more classes and more weapons is another demand. If we don’t show them we REALLY want them, there’s 0% chance we get them.

Any comparisons to R### I made was only show that Anet already has some of the core mechanics to emulate what they have done.

Anet’s single player missions are instance based in the open world. Like that other games houses are in their open world.

I agree with OP. GW2 NEEDS player housing and not done in a way that makes it a after thought. It needs to incorporate crafting, exploring, Trophies from PvP and PvE. It needs to unite players in events. Like before you build a home you could tames an area of NPC monsters. To place a guild hall that area could only be tamed by a guild working together. ArcheAge and Wildstar are doing this right and GW2 needs to take note.

Are you confused, have you been hit on the head recently. Arena Net already knows players want this, that is why they are ALREADY PUTTING IT IN THE GAME maybe the message is to complex ? Is English not a primary Language ? I am truly trying to figure out how you figure that making repeated useless post about the same old thing that has been made over 40 times before is going to do anything. Maybe you should read the Terms of Service, creating duplicate threads will not get an suggestion put into the game, rather having one thread suggesting something with multiple supporters will be looked at before any other.

I am surprised Moderators don’t ban half the users for repeating threads, let alone threads repeating about a feature that is already said to be put into the game and is already on it’s way. Your theory is not well thought out poorly communicated and lacks any cohesion anyhow, not to mention the lack of intuitive thought process to realize that this is a useless thread as the Feature of Guild Halls and Housing are being put into the game already.

I just wanted to comment on this. Anet promised the mini games would be available at launch. They maybe 90% done but it’s taking longer then they thought to finish them.

People know Anet wants to do houses and guild halls. But it’s not high on their priority right now. And if the game fails it never will be on their priority.

Kaimick dies peacefully at an age of 93, content that ANet is working on putting Guild Halls and Player Housing in GW2.

Looking at Colin’s notes for 2013 there is absolutely nothing about Guild Halls and Player Housing, so if they are really working on those, they sure are taking their time…

They’ve already spent considerable time into making the game into a gear treadmill dungeon runner with a beautiful, big lobby (the open world). Frankly with that kind of direction, I can’t see housing coming in anytime soon.

I have a specific thought on Guild Halls and Player Housing, not that they should be implemented, as that has already been stated that it will at some point.

I think the point of a Guild Hall or Player Home is to show the accomplishments of that Guild/Player. Regardless of if the Guild/Player is all about that new cool chair they bought and dyed to match the decor, or if they are a god of PvP/WvW and have all of the trophies and banners to prove it, if they want to show it off they should easily be able to and NOT have to “walk” someone through their Hall/Home. If there is no easy way for someone to visit/view the Hall/Home, there is not much point to having it. A simple ability to enter the Hall/Home instance at will by anyone (right-click on player, Enter Guild Hall or Enter Home), configurable as Private or Public of course, is distinctly needed.

I also think that a player’s Achievements should be available for viewing in some form in the Player Home.

I know one of the best things I liked in the game Runes Of Magic (and really the only thing they did will IMO) was player and guild “housing” Everyone had their own house and could buy (with what would be the equivalent of gems) different housing layout ect. Guilds could also build their own guild castle that had different questing rewards ect in it as well as have a guild castle wars… (they where so fun if it wasn’t buggy and dced you all the time) I have yet to see another game really do this well and it is something that I think would add real money to the backing of this game. (as in buying different housing layout ect) and add more fun to guilds. Also a gvg option in pvp could be fun for some. (of course wvw is I guess where all the people that would be gvg probably are and lets face it.. you can almost never have too many people in there now days.)

I would hate to see race restrictions though. I think that each major city should have a housing district, where you could buy yourself a neat little house. Without any restrictions. As a human for example you should be able to settle in Rata Sum if you wish so.

Player housing however would require alot of work. Not sure if ANet can handle it any time soon.

I wish it could be implemented though, and that it could be as good as player housing in Star Wars Galaxies (where every single item in the game had a 3d model and you coul drop it anywhere on the ground in your house. That was truly epic).

I wanted to talk about guild and player housing on Relics of Orr, but since we probably won’t see either for six months to a year I figure it’s not great content for the show right now. However I’ve been thinking about how they could implement it. Now is the best time to discuss housing on the forums as any input we give could influence the design document before they start coding it. Once they have an initial design document radical change becomes much more difficult. I personally would like to see open world housing in GW2 and to that end, I think they have a few interesting options open to them.

Current World Housing
There are many buildings scattered around the game world both in cities and the open world that are currently closed with no interior. I think it would be very cool if ANet opened those buildings up and created a player market to buy and sell rental contracts. Some buildings could be set up as condos with multiple players each renting a small room. Furniture and decorations could be placed using a similar system to siege blueprints in WvW. I am especially fond of this idea because it does not require massive redesigns of maps and does not pull players out of the open world.

Furniture
In the open world some towns occasionally get taken over by enemy npcs. Houses in these towns could be cheaper to rent due to local hazards driving down property values. In addition to that perhaps the invaders would destroy furniture forcing players to replace what was destroyed. Furniture would be a great addition to the current crafting disciplines and the cash shop. Make recipes for racial furniture (Charr, Sylvari, Asura, etc…) available in the main cities while recipes for special furniture (Pact, Nightmare, ghostly) can only be bought from the cash shop.

Logged Out NPC and Rested Buffs
Since I’m making a list of things I want with housing. Allow player to designate one of their characters as the owner of the house and if they log out in the house that character will spawn as an npc and wander around the town, clean the house, shout at passing players based on their personality, and defend open world towns. To encourage players to visit their house ANnet could make it free to fast travel to your home and grant buffs(XP,Karma, magic find) for logging out in your house. Buffs could be generalized or based on what kind of furniture and decorations you put in your home.

Guild Strongholds
If a guild of players purchase houses nearby each other in a town outside the city their logged out NPCs could receive a boost based on how much influence they have provided the guild(normal >veteran>champion>legendary). Any NPCs that they kill defending the town could add a small amount of gold to the guild bank. Guild NPCs would count as part of event scaling and if the town is taken players could lose their housing buffs, some furniture and there would be no income from them to the guild.

Renting
Since housing would be server based, a new, sever specific, rental contract broker could be added to lion’s arch. It would function similar to the Trading Post with rentals searchable by zone (Divinties reach, Plains of Ashford, Metrica Province, etc…). Rent could be pulled from your bank every week. If you failed to pay rent for, say, three weeks your rental contract would be revoked and returned to the market at default value. Players could be limited to one or two houses per account and have the ability to resell their rental contracts. Buying and selling rentals between players would function like current TP system with players putting up sell orders and buy orders. If a property returns to the market due to delinquent rent and it has several players who have made deposits to purchase it the highest bidder would receive the contract.

I have more Ideas, but this is a rather long post so I’ll stop here for now. What sorts of issues do you see with this system? What would you like to see as housing in GW2?

TLDR; Now is the time to try and influence ANet’s housing design. I think they should make all the closed buildings around the maps into player rentable houses. Make city houses safe while open world houses could be attacked by NPCs. All furniture would be made through crafting with special recipes in the gem shop. Guild members who buy houses close to each other would gain bonuses. The Market would be like the Black Lion Trading Post, but server specific. When a player logs out their character spawns at their house as an NPC.

I expect to see guild halls and/or airships much sooner than player housing and am looking forward to working on them with my guild. That said I have to disagree that houses are wasted space or effort on the part of the developers. Houses are an excellent long term goal for players and something that wealthier Tyrians can sink a great deal of gold into. That is one reason I like the idea of housing in the open world, imagine a player owning one of the mansions in divinities reach or a barracks in the black citadel. You could walk into one of these houses and see their trophies on the wall from their legendary over the mantle to armored mannequins in the halls. Letting player’s show off their houses and collected odds and ends fit nicely with ANet’s focus on horizontal progression and cosmetics.

I have only one problem with your idea. It’s hard to get a house for everyone in the world. There’s hardly enough space.

I agree there are too few spaces in the world that could be converted into housing. As a result most players would get a room with a chair a table and a bed. For most people I think this would be enough as it would give them their rested bonus when they logged off. Additional space could be made if they opened up the wall around Divinities Reach and carved out more space in rata sum. All that would still be too few with over ten thousand players per server. Especially in servers like sanctum of Rall. Perhaps a compromise is that everyone could set up a house in the home instances. That would leave open world houses for those who really wanted them… and the market speculator… housing bubble tyria? Thoughts?

This is only one way the housing could be implemented I’d like to hear other peoples thoughs outside the well tread guild halls/ airships.

I keep telling all of you insistence hosing based in the open world. Is the best way to go. The system is already their to make them like R###. Just play SP missions to see how housing would work.

I know some have there own idea of what a good player house is. But in this case the easiest way for Anet is the way I suggested. It’s also the coolest way to do it.

Personally, I hope that it’s not guild based. Some people like to solo mmos and do their own thing. It would be really nice to have it in a starting zone or in and around the major cities it would just make more since in the story of GW2. However the best place for these player homes is in the ships above and around the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch. After all we do love that city, it’s easy to get to, and that’s where everyone goes to meet up with friends and guild members. And also I feel it should incorporate the achievement points we’ve been earning with dailies, monthlies, jumping puzzles, and events. Other wise they’re just useless pixels that have no real reason of being in the game so far. Plus it would be really easy for new players to get into doing the achievements in order to get their housing. And it wouldn’t bother people as they attempt to get their legendary. Actually, it might just help some players as they grind to that goal. But I’m pretty sure Arena net will have this under control when the patch comes.

I am really surprised both player and guild housing isn’t in the game already. Has there been any official comment regarding it? Housing is a fantastic gold sink, great for crafters, collecting (various trophies, etc) and completionist players and could benefit ArenaNet with some nice cosmetic items for the store.

I have only one problem with your idea. It’s hard to get a house for everyone in the world. There’s hardly enough space.

This could be easily remedied by making the houses expensive to maintain, so most would opt for a shared house with their guild or friends, while the ones playing more actively could get their own.

There’s a huge number of houses in the open world and the cities, and many more could easibly and feasibly be created for this purpose.

The current word is that they are dong high level guild hall development. Essentially they are working on the design document for it, but it isn’t a priority right now. The last time that ANet was asked about individual housing they said that it was on the radar which means they are probably watching the community for interest in the subject. I suspect that we will see guild halls come in with the first paid expansion with individual housing coming one or two expansions later.

Hello,

First of all i would like to thanks Anet team for amazing work they are doing. Im playing GW2 since the beggining and i dont regret any second spent in game.

Second, i thought about how can housing system improve GW2 gameplay. These are my suggestions:

1. OVERVIEW

The neighberhoods should be implemented in form of instances. It will give all the players to have their own unique house and i believe it will not “overload” the game that much.

2. LOCATIONS

Neigberhoods should be available in every major city in two types: urban and at coutryside. It will allow players to choose which envirement they prefer.

3. UPGRADING

There could be developed a new system (similar to guild upgrades) which will allow to upgrade our household in different ways. For example basic house will include empty room or two and throu the upgrading system we can build 3-4 or even additional floor. It also can give upgrades like additional storage room or crafting spots (anvil, workbench etc.) or special objects like fireplace or pantry, armory etc.

4. PROFFESIONS

This system can improve basic proffesions also giving them new crafting recepies for crafting home objects. These are few examples i thought about:

- armorsmith
mannequin for armor storage, dedicated furniture*, crafting wall ornaments etc

- huntsman
creating trophys, dedicated furniture

- leatherworker
skinning and preparing animal skins as a trophy, dedicated furniture

- weaponsmith
some sort of weapon rack, dedicated furniture, decorative weapons to haang on wall

- tailor
carpeting, hangings, tapestrys, dedicated furniture

- cook
thought about something related to gardening so making seedlings or growing plans or trees which can be udes as an ingridient or can be sold in ah also making dedicated furniture. (The grown plants and trees can be putted outside our house to enhance its beauty even more)

- jeweler
dedicated furniture, creating decorative objects (statues, lamps etc)

- artificer
dedicated furniture, small storage boxes

*individual type of furniture for each proffesion

5. THROPHY SYSTEM

Above i mentioned making thropys. How it could work in game? My suggestion is to create some rare drop ingridiens from World Events or World bosses and dungeon bosses. Also good thing would be the commoner drops from average mobs for “low level” trophys. With those ingridiens the specyfy profesion can make trhropys to put/hang in our house. It would allow to see our acheivments in their full glory (“scale of shatterer” on the walll;)) not only in game statistics.

6. TECHNICALS

So after we bought our house we would like to show it to our firends. There could be added a system which will allow giving our friend permition to entering our house.

There should be also added NPC or system which allow to personalyze our house which includes wall colour etc.

I think interesting would be gradation house system. So for example in one neiberhood there will be 4 cheap houses 5 middle standard houses and 3 most expensive mansions. It will allow players chose the place best for their pocket.

7. GUILD HOUSES

Along with housing system there can be also implemet guild house sytem based on the same rules as housing althou in bigger scale

I hope i didn’t made you bored. Im an devoted GW2 fan and those are my suggestions which may help you in the future process of developing the game:) Im looking forward for constructive criticism.

My suggestion:
Housing should be instanced, and it could be a copy of the pve world but without the enemies so basically a empty world and you can then choose to buy a house next to a friend. If the instanced world is full you will then start a new server that would work like the overflow now and you can then buy your house there. Then your friends can transfer their house into that server. Also guild castles could be in these instanced worlds.
This i think could get people to meet other players too since let’s say someone moves in nextdoor i atleast would say hello to the new neighboor:)

Everyone should be able to buy 1 house per account and if 2 or more people want they should be able to instead buy a little farm.

Crafting should be able to make furniture and also some special items should only be able to buy with gems only.
I would also like to see servants you could hire, like a cook that could make food for you.

If you log out while your in a house you would get 2h of magic find when you log on again and have been logged out for 4h.

In the instanced world it would be fun if there could be some events where enemies would attack your house or if many players got houses in the same area as in a village the event would scale.

There could even be pets you can get that need food and water, even flowers which you have to water and can then harvest.

I wouldn’t say that the game needs housing, but it would certainly be a welcome feature. There have been both bad and good examples of housing systems in other MMOs, but I think it’s fair to say that even a bad system is still an improvement over no system at all.

In the instanced world it would be fun if there could be some events where enemies would attack your house or if many players got houses in the same area as in a village the event would scale.

I object! I have enough battles, I come to the hotel in the city to have a rest from them. and you want to and my house was attacked, when it will be built!
Once ArenaNET, build a house, you’ll find in Tyria, shoot a bow. And I will make of thee a scarecrow to frighten the centaurs, from my house.

If player housing was implemented, would each character have their own house? I think it would be interesting to have a single instanced house for all my characters, where they would hang out while I’m not playing them. We could enter the home with any one of our characters and interact with our non-active characters like they were NPC’s. They could even have custom dialogue based on their Cycle, College, Legion, etc., and on what they’ve accomplished in the game, where they’re at story-wise. As an altoholic, it’s always been my dream to see my characters standing next to each other in-game. Fighting together would be even better (like the Hero system in GW1) but I know that’s even more of a dream.
