account bag
It’s called a “Bank”.
I’m with you. Make it an account-wide purchasable tab if nothing else, but it would be nice to not have to run to the bank for items that are interchangeable between characters.
This is an EXCELLENT idea thekap. I totally agree. A single slot for a single bag, that is accessible on all characters. I absolutely hate the idea of having to play a character-loginout dance in order to get my salvage-o-matic and MF conduit from one character to another. +1’s to you!
This is an Awesome idea, everyone upvote!
I keep stopping myself from just ‘dropping’ an account item in a room, so I can log out and log back in with another character that is in the same room, so he can pick it up.
One day, I will lose something precious :-\
This would make me spend real money in the cash shop. I love it.
LOVE this idea. Although it would need to be pretty pricey imo. Anet would probably have to offset that fact that players would no longer need to make multiple purhcases of items such as the copper-fed-salvage-o-matic.
I’m not going to be a party pooper, but I will look at it in a realistic way. First of all let us look at what we currently have in this game. We have a bank that is account bounded. (There are several games MMORPG out there, that has Bank per character). We can access the bank by going to major towns or hopefully find the bank tag in open PvE map (Crafting stations, Bank NPC in mount maelstorm etc).
When we look at gemstore we can find a bank golem which we have access for two weeks of the price of 500 gems. It does the same purpose which an account bag would do + a little bit more because its your bank.
Then if we do open tons of Black Lion Chests or are willing to put a thousands of gold on the trading post for it. We can get aPermanent Bank Access which then again serve the same purpose as an account bag + more. Again you can Buy/ farm key till you get it.
Again I don’t say its a bad design to include an account bag. I’m all for it, but looking at it in a realistic way that we already have an account bag which is called a bank and can be upgraded to 12 bag slots. That’s 12 × 20 = 240 slots of bag space.
So any words?

While you do have very good points about the personal bank golem and permanent bank access. The bank access can only be on 1 character at a time, unless you’re rich enough to buy golems/perma access for all your toons it will rather be annoying to have to transfer it between toons over and over. Also there’s another inconvenience that is still there which is the inconvenience of moving the items from your bag into your bank and vice versa.
For example if i were to say salvage items on multiple toons with my Salvage O’ Matic tool i wouldn’t want to have to waste time double clicking golem/permanent access to open the bank dragging the tool into my bag use it and put it back where it belongs so my other toons can use it, where as an account wide bag would give me the convenience of not having to take the Salvage O’ Matic out of the bank and into my inventory and storing it back again for other characters to use. With the account wide bag slot i would have access to my tools by all of my toons by just opening the bag slot.

The personal bank cash shop item is not the same thing as what is being proposed. One does not make the other obsolete either. Having a small space in your inventory where you can keep items you don’t want to throw in/out of the bank just to get to another character is a huge benefit, and original idea that we don’t currently have.
It is also not being proposed that this is an alternative to having the bank or personal banking golem either. They serve completely different needs. I know that with the salvage-o-matic and my infinite harvesting items (as well as MF Conduit) – the last thing I want to have to do is;
- run back to town
- throw items in the bank
- log in on my other character
- get them to town
- grab item from the bank
- make my way back to where I actually want to be.
Its this mentality and implementation that we currently have that keeps people stuck in the towns all the time, instead of out in the world actually playing the game.
Additionally, this item should be limited to one per account, have a decent cost (say, 600 gems), and should really only have enough space for the super essential stuff that people don’t want to waste their time running to town for all the time. Maybe a 10 slot bag, so you can store the 3 infinite tools, salvage-o-matic, MF conduit, black lion contracts, and maybe your potion/food. It could also be a good place to store a pet or two since it shouldn’t auto-deposit items preferably.
I only know a few people that have ever purchased the bank golem cash shop item too. They also said they wouldn’t do it ever again because it isn’t worth it. It is simply not what people are looking for when it comes to inventory convenience. This proposal fills a different need.
where do i upvote here? Pls make it happen.
yes I totally agree….
This fills a vacuum not covered by the bank golem or the permanent bank access. It’s a very good idea that will only generate more gem sales (because you’ll need gems to buy it, and it gives players even more incentive to buy the infinite tools).
If you confine it to 8 to 10 slots, it takes a unique place in the game that no other item can possibly cover, especially if you’re dealing with 8 or more alts.
ANet could sell these on a per-slot basis.
I would definitely buy 1 single slot (to show up above the other tabs in all my characters’ inventories) for serious money, for my salvage golem.
And then I would buy a couple more for more serious money, for such things as food/potions, my favourite mini, living story collecting (such as spores), or gem store boosters…
Yes, I would pay money for not having to run back and forth between banks on all my characters all the time to consolidate inventories.
I don’t think that this would make the banker golem obsolete, seeing as the banker golem gives you access to all your bank slots and all your collections, while this would be individual slots (possibly limited to buying 10 or so, like new bank slots and bag slots are limited).
Does anybody know if people actually buy the banker golem? I never felt it was worth it, personally. So if ANet offers additional ways for people to spend money, what’s the worst that can happen? That some people buy the stuff who would otherwise have rented a bank golem? Or that some people buy the stuff that otherwise would not have spent any money?

This is an amazing idea.
It’s called a “Bank”.
IDK man its quite a jog to the bank from the wp.
Really though just make the bank accessible from the inventory tab from anywhere

That is already in the game through a permanent and non-permanent portable golem banker.
The brilliance of the OP’s suggestion is that, due to the limited space of the suggested account bag, it doesn’t compete with the existing gem store items, such as the golem banker, but supplements them in a major way (which, as I explained above, will generate further gem purchases, so everybody wins).
I’ll say I agree too… Would definitely be nice.. would be nicer if we didn’t need to equip the gathering tools, but just have them in our bag lol but I guess that might be asking too much.
Anyways, this made it’s way to reddit as well

Why not add Account Bound slots to the wallet. Set the gem price at whatever Anet thinks it needs to make a profit and I’m sure “everyone will want one”
Hey what does the thumbs up icon up there mean? I’m used to seeing either the thumbs up, or the thumbs up with a star in the middle. Right now its a thumbs up with a red line underneath. What is that?
Just allow any character on that account to go to a Black Lion Specialist and retrieve that item once just like the Hall of Monuments Portal Stone. No need for an extra bag. Problem solved and happy players.
I understand that Anet is running a business and they want to make a profit but nickel-and-diming their players is not the right way to do it. The biggest reason I hold back from using real world money to purchase items from the gem store is that they make those items a one time thing. Now they are causing headaches with logging in and out so you have your farming tools on the character you plan on playing at that moment.

Great idea!
I’ve begun using my salvage-o-matic on my main ever since the mf became account bound but when I switch to another char I can’t use it because it’s still on my main.
ANET could use something like this:
Each char has an option to buy a single slot which automatically opens a bag with a certain amount of slots(at least 5) and that bag will be account bound however if u want to use it on another char you have to buy that same slot on another char, that way ANET can still make a profit from this while we get what we want(they can also put the account bound bag as a gem store item and therefore doubling their profit).
I know I will use this on all my 8 chars XD

I was being sarcastic. Since my earlier post wasn’t clear I will just say no because I think there are better ideas out there about swapping infinite gathering tools and salvage kits between characters.
Just a bag you put on the existing slots would be kind of troublesome. And it’ll be a waste of slots. You’ll be effectively losing 20 potential item slots per character to have 20 shared slots.
Rather than an account bag that you put in the existing slots, I’d have 3 account slots in which you can put any existing bag you want, and players would be able to drag them to any position in the left bag toolbar of the inventory panel, and their locations would be saved separately for PvE, PvP and WvW, but account wide.
That way you’d be able to get an account bag slot, put there an invisible bag, and drag it to the top of the list, and store there gathering tools, and salvage kits for PvE and other you may want to use in PvE like toys, miniatures, tonics, food, boosters, etc.
Then you get another one, put another bag on it, and go to WvW. You slide the PvE bag to the top, then slide this new one under the PvE bag, and put there siege plans, food and boosters you use in WvW, and traps.
Then you get the third one, put a bag on it and go to PvP. Then you slide the PvE and WvW bags all the way down as you won’t need them there, and slide the new PvP bag up, and put there PvP salvage kits, alternate PvP gear, a stack of glory boosters…
And none of your characters would lose any of their own storage, as these slots are separate.

Just wanted to voice my support for this great idea. This can solve so annoyances when you play many toons (9×80s here.)
The game needs something like this.
I have never considered spending money on unlimited gathering tools or salvage kit simply because I play multiple toons equally and I have to buy one for each of my characters. Tools recently being account bound still doesn’t really change my opinion since I don’t want to deal with bank, but this..
if we had couple slot account bag, I would spend money in my pocket instantly for a set of gathering tools and account bag slots. simple.
Just a bag you put on the existing slots would be kind of troublesome. And it’ll be a waste of slots. You’ll be effectively losing 20 potential item slots per character to have 20 shared slots.
For those reasons exactly I gave here another option which is having a special 9th slot that can only be bought with gems(must be bought on each character to be able to use it on that character) which in this slot can only be put the special account-wide bag that will be shared among chars(just like the slot, the beg itself will also be bought with gems and must be bought for every character in order for that character to use the shared items).
By making it a per-char purchase ANET can make a profit from it

I like this idea. Would be intensly helpful for me.

I don’t quite get your point. This suggestion would also help in moving the perma bank contract from one alt to another.

Exactly, they don’t compete. The permanent bank contract gives you access to hundreds of items. The suggested account bag allows access to 3 to 10 items, max. The account bag is just meant to move your permanent harvesting tools and permanent contracts around from one character to the next without the fuss of waypointing both the giving and receiving character to a city, moving both to the bank etc. It saves players time, and generated money for Anet. It’s brilliant, everybody wins. Even those who have permanent contracts (arguably, they win even more).

If the cost is reduced, or they add alternative way to get it, you could have one for every character.
The OP seems to be worried about swapping the gathering tools. Anet just needs to put them in the unlocked rewards on the achievement tab so every character can have one or make a new tab that stores account wide items like the infinite tools, copper fed salvage and boosters.

ah, but the point of this suggestion is to make every character have access to ONLY account bound items. What you’re suggesting is to make the perma bank contract cheaper so every character would have access to EVERYthing.

+1
An account bag with 5-10 slots max would be great to store item like bank access, black lion merchant or trading company, unlimited gathering tools and other stuff like that without going to the bank to transfer it between characters.
I have been thinking about this account bag for a very long time, and as I was just looking around I saw it has already been suggested. I want this!!!!!! But they can sell it as whichever size bag 5slot/200gems, 10slot/400, 15/600, 20/800 and it would give all your characters an extra “account” bag. And you should be allowed to put whatever you want in it, as long as its not soulbound, so any character can use that item.
This should of been added yesterday!
At this point i think most people get the idea behind my suggestion. I think many of the things people have said would be good ideas as well. As stated before this bag would not interfere with any other item currently out there as it would be limited to i would say 5 slots and would only be able to hold account bound items.
