-Look, look with your special eyes!
-My Dragonbrand!
I do not doubt Maguuma will be a tough match and may beat FA, but you also need to remember DB fought against YB and EBay; YB and Ebay’s scores were nearly even meaning both servers put up a good fight. Mag is going against YB but IoJ is pretty empty now so you are the sole focus.
That and FA is beating DB with CD in the mix. I think it’s safe to say, both of those servers are much larger than YB or Ebay. So, Maguuma will be a very tough competitor, but the comparison you have provided is not apples to apples.
I have to agree with this. Both Kaineng and Maguuma are not in the correct tier, so their blowout matches are far from representative of their strength. Tier 3 is when servers start having at least a decent presence around the clock- until they hit that tier, there is absolutely no way to judge how they will perform.

When we did this to HoD and DH at their peak, nobody predicted we would destroy T3.
Any server can get a lot of transfers.
That is what matches look like when one server absorbs another one.
That match was in November,
I see no relevance and don’t understand what you think you’re providing evidence for.

Yeah me either.. this wasn’t anywhere near HoD’s prime either and long after Darkhaven lost HIRE iirc.. both of these servers were pretty dead

I didn’t even notice HoD, or I would have included that HoD at their peak was the #1 rated server in the game. That match occured on HoD’s way down.
I didn’t say HoD was at their peak although the way I worded the sentence may have seemed so.
DH was at their peak coming in to that match. Just prior they beat Mag and DB. While FA would have still won by a lot, it wouldn’t have been as big a landslide if it weren’t for a dead server being in the match.
Similarly, the new Mag is beating YB by as much as they are because there is a dead server in the match.
Comparing DB vs YB and Mag vs YB doesn’t make any sense considering one of those matches had a dead server in them.

To be fair, we at DB were on our way down too. That was 4-5 weeks after most of our WvW population transfered to SoS. Considering that Maguuma had an average to below average population at that time, beating DH at its prime can’t even be compared to a tier 3 match whatsoever, especially since the difference between 1st place and 3rd place was only 30k points.
Once paid transfers start, we should know within a few weeks where servers “belong”.
My guess is that within two months we’ll be so tired of fighting the same opponents for the 4th consecutive week that the boards will be alive with (probably the same people) begging for free server transfers to make it interesting again.

Nahh, they’ll be alive with people asking for the tiers to be bigger so the opponents we face is more random.
To the DB forces that have been defending their bl today, kudos to you guys, you have been doing a very good job.
In fact i have had the toughest day in wvw since i became a commander, every time we fliped a tower or a supply camp there you guys were turrning it back again, i have not managed to secure a proper foothold in your turf today, granted that the numbers i had were not that great, but it serves as no excuse, you guys have been fierce fighters, my respects to you.
your timing as been very good, and i even tried to get you going from one side of the map to the other, and still you guys pulled it off.
You sirs got me tired and in need of a rest
I’d hope the people complaining will just free transfer down to the lower tiers, which should cause the ranks to be continually shifting but at hopefully a less dramatic pace than something like Kaineng’s upward movement or the downfall of HoD/ET.
Perhaps I don’t get wvw, but landslide wins and losses are boring (I guess you can level an alt in a win if the other side tries but that’s about it)- and yes, I barely played in wvw the week CD rolled FA/IoJ. Tiers are meaningless (at least for now) and really represent only the coverage/population size (I am uncertain of the equation but it’s a mix of the two somehow). So I don’t get the whole push to make super wvw servers… the way it currently stands bigger pop means queues and zergs. Lower pop servers may mean a couple of weeks of slow wvw to toggle down to the right tier, but once the free transfers are done that should settle quickly.
My guess is that within two months we’ll be so tired of fighting the same opponents for the 4th consecutive week that the boards will be alive with (probably the same people) begging for free server transfers to make it interesting again.
I called this same thing in another thread.
And I’ll bet gold that it’s correct.

I can see why you went there. To be honest, I thought that, too. But let’s take a look at it from the devs’ perspective(s):
Let’s say they do open up free transfers again; and maybe this time, they facilitate and screen the exodus (unlike was seen in the SoS fiasco [not to bring old wounds up—just making a point]). Would they really want to risk history repeating itself in that free transfers have the potential to create and perpetuate the…for lack of a better word..rise of dead servers?
I guess what I’m saying is that either: when paid transfers come into effect, servers will ‘belong’ into their tiers and level off, remaining in balance for months on end (which will inevitably bore the life out of most WvW players); or a new system needs to be in place to avoid both boredom and the perpetuation of putting a server against the same opponents, indefinitely.
I can see, now, that this thread has taken a tangental turn…alas: FA…good gracious, please go to sleep so I can play properly your presence is so voluminous that my computer lags like mad; that or I just need a new computer….. probably the latter

The point is that DH at that time was a T4 server much like YB is now. We can debate prime DH vs current YB, but they are in a similar place relative to the rest of the servers. Both matches (FA/DH/HoD and Mag/YB/IoJ) featured a server that would go to T3, a T4 server, and a dead server). Mag’s future performance can’t be determined by their T4 match.
Watch out! Based on what I know from fighting against DB last week (hello I’m with Yak), when Maguuma moves up in your tire I think they will beat you. We are getting our kitten kicked pretty bad right now… (>_<)
Both CD and FA are pretty tough and shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s going to be an interesting match.
You sound like one of us last Friday. Now look at this score… This is as of now. DB never beat us like this. We had good matches with DB, but with Maguuma…
Considering that CD is on a decline and already starting to bleed guilds, I don’t think they will fair so well next week. The match will either go to Mag or FA.
Also, in tier 4 it will go to either DB or Kaineg. YB you are probably in for another tough week.
Not sure how CD is bleeding guilds since it was hell trying to get my entire guild over to the Desert when their server status was 99% of the time Full… Now that transfers are open again I was able to get all 25-30 members over
Welcome to the tier. Where’d you guys move from?
BP… A lot of their big guilds started leaving after they hit a wall in WvW rank climbing. We stuck around for a bit but decided to ditch after we learned free transfers were ending. I have a few friends here on CD that said the community was great, so we chose this as our new home.
CD only lost KH. I think people are just assuming CD is bleeding guilds because they aren’t showing up as much as they did the previous week when CD was winning. CD is here to stay and will probably be very competitive once FA is out of the tier.
CD lost terror to DB as well… which was probably one of their better guilds.
CD aren’t weakening at all. They’re tenacious and fight with everything they have. It used to be that when CD were down in points, they’d pack it up. Now they fight to the end. Bravo, good sirs.

I think we just about agree.
I, for one, won’t be complaining about stale matches (If it turns out I’m lying and someday, someone is looking through my post history to prove me wrong. Say Hello to future me).
I had more or less enjoyed the few repeat matches we’ve had. Moving up in tiers every few weeks is kinda fun and all, but having balanced matches against equal servers is just fine by me.
But we both know what forums are like. The vocal few who are displeased make the most noise, and in about two months there will, without a shred of doubt, be threads popping up complaining about paid transfers ruining wvw.
Score update. Just waiting at guild rally.
Looks like RISE is another guild leaving CD.
Looks like RISE is another guild leaving CD.
That’s unfortunate. Where’d they move to?
Things are gonna get real interesting next couple weeks, I think.
I would like to officially THANK ANET!!! for fixing our Hills on Dragonbrand Borderlands by doing that new build. It has been glitched up until now since reset night. We can properly defend our hills without having to hold the south supply camp. If you were wondering what the problem was… we were unable to recieve any supply from Astral forcing us to recieve supply only from the south. Very hard to upgrade a Keep when forced to keep a camp right next to the enemies spawn. To everyone on Dragonbrand, we did the best we could during this situation.

Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to make announcements for other guilds. However, from what I know, you are bleeding. Don’t confuse it with performance though. CD is still performing well and I think they would have retained first if they had performed like the reset night every night.

I have been recalled to life in Fort Aspenwood! It is not what it once was however. So many gypsy emigrants. The days of Gods, Pros, and Hope forming the core fist of Aspenwood has passed and now there is a mishmash of this that and everything else all for the sake of winning with total abandon and to no end. I hope the future doesn’t bring us que times and perpetual money blitzes which overshadows the uphill struggles of the past and the glory of overcoming them. I welcome the transfers from IOJ which protect our holdings against night caps and the cost of re-upgrading. Once server transfers are closed and a month has passed I hope we are once again fighting marginal battles with final scores that have maybe at most a 20000 point spread. Blowouts are just not that fun and competitive, whether you be on the winning or losing side. Fighting servers like Maguma which appear to be enforcing a strict doctrine and almost cultifying its base doesn’t look like much fun either.
In the meantime however:
I didn’t say HoD was at their peak although the way I worded the sentence may have seemed so.

at that piont in time DH beat DB because we were on our way down. SO far the one thing Dragonbrand has shown is the ability to suffer from a mass exudos and rebuild. because no other server has been able to do that yet. and with free tranfers going away doubtful another server will get the chance.
We haven’t done any recruiting in the forums either.

Well hello there, come on the FA forums and get to know our new guys! – jump in the community TS.. we PRO needed the help at night anyways
I like having a mishmash, adds a bit of variety. It would suck if a few elitist guilds or one single alliance was pretty much carrying and controlling the server in some sort of authority position. FA has no alliances, period .. we are just here to melt faces and have a jolly old time.
Please don’t take all the current leaderboard scores as an indication of the future.. look at all the guild movement even on this unreliable website: http://www.gw2guilds.org/movers
As for queues.. well, I don’t have any experience with them being Aussie – I’ve been playing the night shift since the early beginnings of FA.. however you can expect our populations to be super inflated on Friday matchup as all the Aussies will be on too.. (it’s like 8-10am for us on wvw reset) but I’d rather wait ~15 mins to get in if I don’t have to defend keeps solo during my “prime time” like it was before .. lol
Sure I don’t mind winning.. of course I’m used to losing.. the scoreboard is pretty irrelevant to me but I hate not being able to hold a keep because nobody is even around to man the huge nest of siege I built in the midnight hours! Chucking a good score down encourages all of our elite PvE players to scuttle away from fractals and show off their legendaries in WvW. All of our new guys are helping us achieve this and want FA to succeed – but more importantly they want to help enhance the WvW experience for our community just as much as us grumpy old timers do. Just my 2 cents

Yeah but recruiting didn’t matter too much because Dragonbrand is just an awesome server name. Almost as good as Fort Aspenwood.

You cannot guest into another server’s wvw, they were very clear about this even back in development.

After we had such a rough time last week and a few months before that trying to fight outmanned on most maps all the time I think we deserve this week of a little “rest”. It was pretty demoralizing loosing week after week and upgrading stuff than coming back a few hours later to find out you lost the whole map. After all the hard battles to earn a place in tier 3 I do think we deserve and ready to move up a tier. So I still welcome all the new transfers to our server. And if at any point I find myself with a que on all maps I will just go finish my daily or run a dungeon. It don’t matter how many people are on WvW map either I usually try to avoid big “zergs” and try to work on distractions, cutting off supplies and just “annoy” the other server as much as possible. I did had some great encounters this week with DB and CD. Looking forward to more great fights!

If we, FA, make it to T2 one day I can guarantee you many, many uphill struggles. The gap between T2 and T3 is wide from what I’ve seen so far.

Guesting will have no effect on WvW.
Fort Aspenwood just gave me bad memories. My guild was Luxon: the side that was biased against in every from of faction vs faction format (only Luxon turtle and not Kurzick Juggernaut would bug in Jade Quarry, capture points were closer to Kurzick spawn in the supposedly neutral AB map). Fort Aspenwood was horribly balanced for a PvP mode. Luxons had to have a perfect team comp to win (they would still have diffuclty) and Kurzicks could win with just about anything (including the nigh unbeatable all healers).
Yeah, no offense, but because of the name, I will never go to Fort Aspenwood.

i think the other thing to take into consideration with the Yak’s/ maguma/IOJ match up is even thought Yaks is getting trashed they are still going up in ranking. and best of all they are actually gaining points during the 8am window which is where DB’s night crew peak.
So i’m pretty sure Magumma is going to hit a wall. kaineng is a different story.
Fort Aspenwood was one of the best pvp maps ever. It’s why I joined the server. The luxons had their necromancers and a million minions and turtles that were unkillable by anything except mesmer phantasm. The Kurzicks had their monks and bonds to make the gatekeepers tough to kill but not invincible. The ranger inbetween gates stunned the turtles siege to hold them in place between gates and waste the hammer guys reinforcements. But the gatekeeper was killable and the balcony flooded and the turtles moved on the juggernaught and the final gate. If they died new turtles with fresh hammer guys that would wreck the juggernaught marched on the last gate and bye bye Kurzick priest or whatever the guy you had to kill was.
I would actually rate Fort Aspenwood up their with classics such as Warpath from Team Fortress and…well I can’t think of anything else comparable. It was so unique and fun.
actually it’s the best server name :-P
I found a logo
Woot finally ungltiched our astral yak going to hills in our bl (kinda late)…now the painfully slow upgrades from blue water with fa zerg spawning 24/7 at it can stop…..maybe
Double post because I incured an infraction which disabled my ability to edit my own posts and make them more accurate. Hopefully that will fade away with time and less forum space is used.
Never mind fixed. Just weird forum bugs or something.
Got done playing. We went to DB BL and ran around doing zerg vs zerg battles. Very casual. We ended up just going to fight Jormag, lol. First time I fought a dragon.

I’m from FA! It looks like CD has lost 3 guilds now. I guess they will get kicked out of T3 after the next match. But then they will have competitive matches with YB assuming they lose enough guilds to bring them to that level. I don’t think the situation will be on par with SBI/IoJ.
