While flattering that some folks think we’re a T5-6 server, I have to strongly disagree with this premise. Some of us were around when SF was in those tiers, remember what it was like in those tiers, and have an inkling of what it would take to be competitive in those tiers. We simply do not have the numbers, the time zone coverage, or the tactics to be able to be competitive in those tiers yet. If we continue getting folks involved in WvW and improving our cooperation and tactics, we may one day have a shot. But as we are right now, I feel that we’re far from ready for T5 or T6.

Second shows how badly SF wanted to take SM… and how badly they failed too. They outnumbered us, but proper siege placement and high quality siege made sure that we could stand toe-to-toe against their numbers and tactics, even with inferior numbers. I love this action shot.

Awwwww…sadly I had to leave for work before I got a chance to participate in that defense. At least I had some success with those pesky catapults I kamikazee’d a couple of times though. Didn’t have enough time left for the portal plan so I had to take matters into my own hands. Congrats everyone!

I know it may sound weird, but I do not really mind the fact that we are usually Outmanned in WvW on Ferguson’s Crossing. Being in this server since the start, I have watched a unique like culture/fighting style evolve in the underdogs for Tier 8. When it was kaineng, and now Eredon Terrace and Ferguson’s Crossing. You saw fighters who would fight a guerrilla like warfare against a much larger force. Fighters who can excel at 1 vs many and still end up taking a few with them, or escaping. I know there are skilled players in all the tiers, but it has kind of taken on a whole new meaning down in tier 8 that we should take pride in. To see these fighters, and the hardcore WvWers on both sides, when outnumbered who keep on coming to fight, no matter if they die or not.

I am proud to call Ferguson’s Crossing my home server, it does not matter to me how outnumbered we are, or how badly we lose/or how low morale is. I will keep on fighting, and I know most of the other die hard wvw players will to.

So to DR, then Kain, and now SF, i bow to you for allowing me, and the other guerrilla fighters on the servers a chance to hone our skills and improve. Against numerous zergs, and overwhelming numbers you have helped foster a unique playstyle that has made some of us a lot stronger in skirmishes and full on scale fights.

So SF, and who ever replaces you, I welcome your challenge. Bring your zergs, bring your many fighters and i and others like me will keep on fighting. We will keep on flipping camps, breaking into your towers and liberating our own. And we will continue to try and crack into those keeps.

I think it depends what you want to get out of WvW.

I can’t speak for other players, but I can offer my perspective as a recent transfer to ET from Seafarer’s Rest [EU]. I dislike higher tier communities, and was impressed with the relative maturity ET presents on the forums. PvDoor is also boring, I like defending and smaller groups.

I’ve seen these things happen time and time again for years. It doesn’t matter what game it is, the higher in the pecking order you go the more you attract the following:

1) Compensation seekers – This is the worst and largest group. They lack success somewhere in their lives and seek to fill it by “pwning in pixel-land”. Alternatively they feel they have something to prove. Stereotypically these are your basement dwellers, unemployed, and raging adolescents. Attention seeking goes along with this to some degree as well.

2) Genuine win-win-win overachievers – There aren’t many, nothing wrong with being that way though. It takes all sorts to make a world. Personally I find them tiresome after a while.

3) Useless hangers-on and leechers that will jump ship as soon as the tide turns.

These sorts react poorly to failure. It usually manifests itself as:
- Temper tantrums
- Blaming others, often turning on team/nation/server-mates
- Excessive whining and looking for excuses
- Snark
- If someone knows less than them it is time to gloat in their false superiority and proclaim them a noob.

Because WvW is persistent (you can hide in there 24/7), and the rest of the game world isn’t open PK, bad attitude festers and doesn’t go away. I have never seen it so bad. I played Cabal on and off for years, and if someone way oversteps the line, vigilante justice takes care of it….

I transferred on Monday and have yet to see any of the above in ET. I am impressed by their will and refusal to give in without a fight. I can only hope I contribute something useful. All the cool stuff seems to happen while I am at work though

If the upper tiers are Braveheart, the bottom of tier 8 is that depressing documentary about where hamburgers come from. It’s a lot less enjoyable in the moment, but the experience stays with you longer. Like any other competition, there’s a lot to be learned from watching yourself and others handle adversity, especially when you can’t directly overcome it.

Though I haven’t exchanged more than a few words with most of them, I genuinely appreciate the people that show up to try to make the game better for me and everyone else on our side, and want to keep doing my part to make things slightly less terrible for them. All of these people have every opportunity to be doing something else with their time, but there they are repairing that door that they know will be broken down again 5 minutes later, so there I’ll be making it go a little faster.

Looking back, maybe I’ve been too pessimistic. Somewhere along the lines, the attitude changed around where Ferguson’s Crossing became the blue server, greater feelings of responsibility to deliver and higher expectations started to cut at the fun WvW had always provided for me up to that point, and I think for others too. That combined with the increasing amount of inter-guild bickering (especially between us and Krak, I think we finally worked that out for the most part now) which at least has finally died down in recent times. I think I’m done forum venting now, the time to rebuild is already here.

I believe that the people who are trying to get server-wide voice chat up and running have the right idea, and I’m going to try to offer them my full support from now on and contact some other commanders and major guild leaders/officers that I know and see what we can agree on. I know we’ve had implementations of this in the past, Vanguard and what not but I think the reason they never grew was due to the overly serious atmosphere that has been attached at times. People in WvW want to be mobile when is necessary or desirable, and not going in with the expectation that some super-commander is gonna be like: “Ok, you’re X, you’re Y, you’re Z. X head to hills, Y to be, and Z will head our movement in EB!” so I think when they see a voice chat broken down into teams and all that, they get worried or intimidated, so the server wide voice chat I have in mind would be something a little different, something more simple and laid back, and advertised with a less “professional” but rather more friendly “Let’s enjoy WvW together” slogan so as to not scare off the less hardcore as has happened commonly in the past.

I think we can work things out and return to that sense of togetherness and community that kept us so strong when we fought against Devona’s Rest and Kaineng. It has admittedly decayed for all of us when we realized this was all gonna go down for the third time in a row. But if we want to guarantee that it won’t occur a fourth and fifth time, then now is the time to act.

Watch out Sheen, Weird Al might soon awaken from his slumber. You know the threat he poses with his fingers that move so fast, they set the keyboard ablaze.

I still think the Glicko2 system is broken in regards to tier 8 though, but that’s a story and complaint for another thread that hangs out in the suggestion forums now.

Can’t wait for the battle tonight. I’d like to wish everyone good luck and may there be plenty of fun to be had. See you back on the forums at the end of the week! May there be dignity, corpse-dancing, a JP gank, and all the things we’ve come to love that defines this great tier. But most importantly, let’s all have a good time!

SF is currently 66 Points from Moving up to T7 after week 7, so if they do as good a showing or even slightly better, We can expect them to remain in T8 for another 3 weeks.

They would have to put out a much better showing to pull out of T8 anytime sooner, but even at their best gain of 56 points in a single match, we will be looking at no less then 2 more weeks of the same T8 match up.

Something to note: SF won the match by 252 points, their largest margin yet and netted 27 points, 2 weeks ago they netted a 56 point gain for a 243 point lead.
