A Call for Roamers
Cool but don’t expect fair fights.

ye roaming run into mesmer get rekt
run into elementalist that is stronger then heavy armor class get rekt
run into burn guardian get rekt
the damage patch made roaming bit dull for me tbh..
it is our duty to create the paradise called ROAMINGLAND
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that ship has sailed.

And sank miserably to the bottom of the sea.
I still like to roam but that’s because I’ve accepted the chaos. There’s no such thing as balance, fairness or honor.

I was out taking a lovely stroll around the borderlands today when I suddenly came upon a lone player from an opposing server. We both stopped fairly close to each other and stared at each other wide eyed, wondering who would be the first to make a move. Then suddenly…it happened…
At least five other players allied with the other popped up out of the blue and stomped me. The Mesmer was simply mesmerizing me until backup arrived.
I still roam… Mind you a lot of the time it’s some where near either a group/zerg or a structure we own…
Once upon a time I used to roam wild and free but as you’ve said, gank groups everywhere. I never party with people or intentionally follow small groups but I do often stay somewhere relatively close to my zerg/territory at this point.
Roaming isn’t quite dead but… It’s definitely on life support. No one likes getting ganked/zerged all the time or playing hide and seek with condi Mesmers. And that’s about all that’s left to roaming at this point.

If they nerfed condis, you’d see more roamers. its just not as fun as it used to be with everyone running no skill cheese builds now. When all you see when roaming are PU mesmers, p/d thieves, burn guards and engis, and perplexity necros, it doesnt exactly scream “super fun time”.
lol roaming…i saw roaming yesterday …condi mesmers 100% stealth..hitting here and there..mostly on lowbies..
WvW is not for roamers anymore cause nobody wants to fight roamers..running running running,,stealth stealth stealth…..zzz.zzz.zzz.. waste of time .
Who wants to fight that ..aannnnnnd stealth fisnisher tooo..pfff …hope for changes so we can have some fair and fun roamer battles….
and btw ,,,dont forget kids are roaming too …let them have a little fun too… chase them a little and die..you made their day. Mom will be proud of them and give them a kiss and a hug.
Ahhh please don’t QQ about condi being too strong. I don’t run condition builds often, but it’s true that against some specs, conditions are too strong. But what about builds that are made for condi clearing? Maybe it’s time we redefined the meta.
The same is true of SPvP. Meta defines there, but when me and a friend ran a double burn guard spec, it was countered hard by 1 single shout condi removal guardian on enemy side.
What people need to do in roaming is accept that some specs will always beat others, so they need to adapt.

I honestly don’t understand all this condition damage rage. At least in my tier the only common condition damage build is Perplexity PU Mesmers. While I certainly would welcome an overhaul of Perplexity, the reason that build is so strong is primarily the high stealth upkeep, not the condition damage. Excessive dependance on stealth though is something that both condition and power damage builds share alike.
That said, most so-called roamers prefer high burst power builds relying on immunities (or evades or blocks or any other defensive mechanism) to score a kill before the opposition can even retaliate. In combination with stealth those burst builds are definitely not more intelligent to play than condition builds. And unless the player running a high burst power build gets overly self confident he can escape just as well because he has an additional advantage: high mobility.

Pu stealth mesmers, +40% conditions food, dire stats, elementalists, ruined alla the fun. Roaming is a way to challenge everyone but you can’t challenge everyone because some builds, traits, classes are above the skill of players. Let’s be serious, gw2 is not for skill,it’s for advantage towards your enemy.
Roaming hasn’t seen much of a change, the entirety of the game has been one cheese build for roaming after another. The problem for most people is that it ISN’T their cheese build anymore. However, many of the cheese roamers, I will refer to them as cheesers from here on, did switch to the newest cheese build and will continue to do so each and every time.
This will always be the case, cheesers are the cheesiest and like to be the cheese. They make playing the game for most any other class wanting to try roaming near impossible or just an effort in frustration. ANET, and most MMO gaming corporations simply have not figured out class balance (basically because they have been rehashing and only making minor changes to the same game-play mode for near 20 years or more).
In other words, get use to the cheesers or forget roaming and blob it up. For those on the lower tier servers, just stop playing your class and do the current cheese, I hear its the cheesiest!!!
You know why players don’t roam? and there is plenty capable ones
Its because its literally the least reward thing in the game to do
If you know you’ll run into a lot of condi, spec for condi removal. It truly is that easy. Once it no longer works as well the meta will shift. Always understand that if you’re not adaptable then any sort of player versus player gameplay will be difficult and frustrating.
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
Roaming? Are you talking about those awesome moments when: kitten condi build kills you after one minute of cheese? a pu mesmer (doesn’t matter if condi or power) stealthes for so long and keeps you infight until he finally manage to kill you with confusion or finally land one successfull shatter? a gank squad appears and start to chase you across the whole map? half of a public zerg stops following the commander and decide to chase you instead?
Aww…I love roaming on my power gs + sw/f medi guard as long as I have an escape plan aka lots and lots of ports ready. Screw you condi builds! I will fight you as long as my condi removes allow me to do so. xD
BTT: Roaming is almost dead. Whenever I start some solo roaming, I end up in a group. Why? You start roaming, kill some guys, flip some camps and suddenly 2+ start to chase you across the map wherever you show up. So you call for reinforcement because you are sick of it. So you start roaming with another guy, kill some guys, flip some camps and suddenly 3+ start to chase you across the map wherever you show up. So you call for reinforcement because you are sick of it…rinse and repeat…until your solo roaming action ends up in a massive blob! :P

You don’t know what frustration is, until you fight and try and kill a Ghost thief.

What people need to do in roaming is accept that some specs will always beat others, so they need to adapt.
- The people who still care will adjust, the people not having fun playing like that will just ditch the scene or even the game.
- Condition builds are not a huge issue in sPvP like they are in small man WvWvW fights for fairly obvious reasons (stat combos/sigils/food/runes).
BL maps are pretty good for roaming especially around the ruin area. One of my favorite places to roam when the daily involves capturing them.
Obsidian Sanctum used to be a great place before they removed the poi’s for map complete / legendary items.. Mystic forge, traps, varying heights, and jumps made it a great place with high activity.
Arena net does not really know what to do with the format nor will probably until mid to late 2016 when CU is out. Depending how it goes I’d wager most of the true WvW crowd will move to that game. At least for a month or two. If it is anything like retail launch of DaOC then GW2/WvW will be defunct.
Everyone knows, even a.net, that WvW has been left idle since launch. Autopilot for the win…

I still roam occasionally with my friend. We usually go deep in the enemy lines and try to capture supply camps. We have been playing duo thief most of the time, to avoid uneven fights, but we still engage on all 2v2 or 2v3 fights. They are extremely rarely nowadays though. Most of the time we spend running away, before one of us becomes bored and we switch to another game.
Solo roamer, all classes.
every “roamer” is a coward now , or is a enginer / thief / mesmer spamming attack applying conditions and run away if you get close , or is a trapper build who just drop traps and hides
https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
If any of you ever face Borlis Pass, you’ll find me roaming solo on various classes (primarily warrior, mesmer, engi, and ranger nowadays). I very rarely roam in a group and I don’t like condi builds so I don’t use them.
As someone who exclusively uses power builds, my main problem is that nearly everyone roams with a partner or a group, so a fair amount of my time is spent running because I usually don’t have the sustain to fight outnumbered (unless the enemies are bad). To be honest though, I find that trying to shake off 5+ enemies by falling off cliffs (which I do often on my warrior, who runs the fall trait) or utilizing stealth and juking them can be kinda thrilling, so I’m not too bothered when I can’t find fights. If I can’t find any good fights, I just run around seeing how many enemies I can get on my tail before they get bored and leave, or I die.
I love to roam, unfortunately i’m stuck on T1/T2(Tarnished coast)

to be fair to the cowards, roamers have always been runners unless they absolutely physically cant run. If you are going to die for sure if you stay, better to run.
i dont play perfectly. if someone gets the jump on me and the advantage is overwhelming, ill disengage and come back around to fight them. if im going to die, ill attempt to GTFO. there is such as thing as an honorable fair fight, but that honor doesnt mean “i should let this guy get his stomp”.

I think this thread is bugged; it says it was started “about a day ago” but I’m SURE this thread is from 2012…
Somebody should look into that.
When I play WvW, which is actually not too often since my attention is grabbed by other stuff, I roam on my ranger. Usually not alone, it’s just much more enjoyable to have a friend along to chat with and fight alongside. However, we usually give space to each other for 1v1s in the wilds. So, if you happen across a red haired norn ranger from Gunnar’s Hold, approach, I’ll give you a fight.
Unless you are a condi mesmer, then I want nothing to do with you.

+1. As if condi cheese isn’t bad enough, a lot of these people stick in packs of 3-5. So when you’re trying to fight someone, thinking what the hay you’ll put up a fight and see how it goes. Then 2-3 of their pocket stealth buddies pop on you. You quickly realize how lame roaming is.
I mean seriously, if I’m in a group with someone, and they’re having a nice 1v1. I wouldn’t jump in and ruin the fight.

Dear Roamers,
Please come to WvW and let’s have some real fun killing each other.
Don’t stick to this stupid groups of 3 or more players(no offense to blobs, this is a different aspect of WvW). Roaming community needs more appreciation because we are the free spirit of GW2.
Arenanet does not need to do anything we must do it for ourselves, it is our duty to create the paradise called ROAMINGLANDYours sincerely,
Borious the Tree Engineer
Since there are so many op classes like mesmer i gave up with wvw after 6000h+ spent on roaming.
So no thank you.

Roaming today in T1/T2 means you against 2-3 PU Mesmer or Thiefs, none wants fair fight 2vs2 or 1vs1. Just gank with 1-5 People.
As non stealther it is even more frustrating, if you are beating a mesmer, or thief they just run away stealthed mostly.
The rare fair fights i found were against roaming guardians, ranger or engies, but it takes hours to find such good fights. You will find them more in sPvP

I solo roam off guild raid / peak times everyday, and would love to get some more fights.
In response to some people complaining about running into mesm0rz and whatever the bandwagon op class is now, I haven’t had many problems. Just need to learn how to outplay them.

Yeah especially when they run in packs. It’s almost impossible…without a destealth trap! xD
I guess the “roamers” you encounter are very different from server to server. Let’s have a look on my personal record for facing a cheese “roaming” squad: 4 pu mesmer (2 condi, 2 shatter) + 2 thieves…the lamest 2on6 I’ve ever had. You can’t even avoid those fights because they chase you across the whole map in perma stealth. I love those german servers. <3

Roaming was always a ‘fringe’ activity that wasn’t really a part of what Anet envisaged with WvW so it has always struggled to remain a relevant activity along with GvGs. Then the specialisation update came along and killed much of the small group roaming scene that existed through the cataclysmic power creep. WvW has never had any form of bespoke class balance, so it was kind of inevitable that this would happen eventually.
Roaming is still fun now and again.
I never have roamed with an organized group, nor am I one of those Solo roaming ‘heroes’ with ‘OP’ builds, but I find Raiding/GvG much more enjoyable and balanced atm.
I would PvP more if I wanted to, even if you have those D/D cele eles dominating and all that lack of balancing on Anets behalf, plus you get rewarded for it.

This is just about paying for food, ascended gear for my builds, upgrades, repairs, other costs that come with playing the game. You think I shouldn’t be able to afford that ingame?
