Eris – Players Versus Everything [PvE]

It is with deep regret that we wish to inform you of the death of one of Gunnar’s Hold WvW longest serving and most respected players.

Eris died suddenly at the age of 43 on Monday 24th November 2014.

Eris has played Guildwars since the beta of GW1 moving to GW2 in pre-release.

The offices and members of PvE and his alternate guild Praxium [PRXM] are devastated by this terrible and sudden news.

We have made a donation to the charity chosen by his family on behalf of the guild and the server.

His funeral took place today and an in game service will be held starting at Garrison on the Gunnar’s Hold WvW map this evening at 8pm UK time.

We intend to fire a treb salute in his honour.

The Gunnar’s Hold WvW community respectfully request that our WvW opponents this week (Millers Sound and Arborstone) please avoid combat with mourners on the Gunnars Hold border for approximately 15 minutes between 20:00 and 20:15 UK Time this evening.

Everyone is welcome to attend – please wear pink or bright colours and bring your pink (purple) tag.

Rest in Peace Eris. We will miss you.

Terrible news. Eris was an incredibly friendly and approachable person and one of the pillars of the Gunnar’s Hold community. He’ll be missed.

My thoughts are with his friends and family.

The turnout last night was amazing. We filled the map with a 35 man queue of people still waiting to get in and everyone on the map was there for the service. 85 people were stacked for a “supply info” count!

We walked from Citadel to his favourite location – The south vista in Garrison, led by his best friend Padmay De.

And we spelt out his name on the map – something we had not planned that just happened spontaneously.

It could not have been a better or more fitting tribute.

Thank you to all who attended.

Tributes were paid on TS and in chat- Trebs and catapults were built and fired in his honour.

My condolences. Sorry to hear that.

So sorry to hear this. The loss of a friend and realmate is a lot of times much harder to handle than expected. I remember when Roger passed I was torn up to no end. He was my right hand man and stepping on the battlefield without him just didn’t feel right. The best we can do is live to honor them and always keep them in your thoughts. As long as they are in your thoughts they never truly die. They live on through you and your actions which live on through others.

What a touching tribute. As a player on an NA server, I would never have had the opportunity to encounter Eris or his guild…which is unfortunate for me. Beautiful job. My condolences, and, if I may be so bold as to speak for my server, respect and condolences from Northern Shiverpeaks.

I’d been away from the game for a while, but I knew when I came back, Eris would reliably be there. He was a rock for Gunnar’s in WvW, ever present and ever active, always helpful and always a gentleman. I wholeheartedly wish he had been there when I logged in yesterday.

As a guildmate he kept us balanced, as an officer he kept things calm, and as a friend he kept us smiling.

The memorial yesterday was a lovely tribute. I was so glad I was able to make it back and see so many of the Gunnar’s community, old and new, come together to remember Eris, in the Borderland that wont be able to forget him.

Wow, this is really touching indeed. Got a little emotional. I did not know Eris, but you have my respect for doing this. /salute to a fellow WvW player dying way too young.

As u speak about Eris tells me that he was the real heart behind his guild, the living link between players (or more: between friends inferring from the description) . Such person deserve no less than our honor, and his guild mates our honest condolence for the loss of such comrade.

I’ve only just heard the news and I’m devastated by it. I’ve been gaming with Eris for about 10 years on and off and he was one of those people who helped me not only online but face to face in real life. The best type of friend anyone could know or wish for. It’s not very often you can say that a person will leave a hole that will never be filled but in this case it doesn’t feel like a hole, it’s a void.

Only the forgotten are truly dead, and I shall remember Alan until my heart stops beating.

I’ve just found out about this and this is really awful news. I was an officer of the LOF guild which Eris led on GW1 and GW2 and whilst I’d never met him we conversed many times in game and shared some great GW memories. Eris was a fantastic bloke – always there to help and kind to a fault. My navigational skills, or lack of them, were a LOF joke but Eris never lost patience.

Due to dwindling numbers in LOF we hadn’t chatted recently but it was always comforting to see that he was logged in on GW2. I’ll miss him. This is a huge shock.

Maybe we will meet someday beyond The Mists.

Al, or ‘Rash’ as I called him (short for ‘Rashmika’: one of his chars.), was a truly lovely person. He was always friendly, helpful, calm, patient, kind and just a really genuine guy.
