About targeting
I get this problem too sometimes but/so i mostly use “nearest target” or click targeting because button targeting will probably never be good enough for me in Mesmer fights or any larger fights anyways.

It’s a pain. I use next target as at least I can cycle through and have an idea of how many buttons it will take. It’s not fast enough for high stealth classes though unless it’s right on the first try. Sometimes clicking just will not target.
Two things I think would help immensely.
1. Always prioritize players in target order or at least give us an option to remove walls, gates, random animals etc.
2. If I’m basically clicking on a player I want to target them. The game needs to pick up on this a bit better. I can’t be spam clicking someone trying to target them while 10 others are trying to kill me.
I commend you for still playing Power D/D even though Anet have time and time again gutted it even though it has never been very good compared to D/P.
I’m terrible at landing CnD, but ever since they ruined stealth attacks (especially on D/D where backstab is the only decent attack to use in stealth) I don’t think it’s a good time to start, anyway!

This has been asked for numerous times and anet won’t do it. The only reason I can think of is that it would allow bots to avoid taking on random items you don’t want to attack. I can’t damage a wall, so no point in me selecting it, but the stupid anet system selects it first cause I’m standing on it.
I have no interest in killing random non hostile mobs but again these will be selected, seemingly even if further away. I might have 5 enemies shooting at me, but the closest target is their ram, really? If I want to select a wall to check it’s health I can click on the wall. Same with a yellow mob or siege.
Actually normally when I want to select a piece of siege as target it’s surrounded by enemy players and I get one of them instead.
Recently next target has been failing for me a good chunk of the time. I’m pretty sure it’s related to the obstructed bug you get all over the place because I’ve noticed you can’t target players that are slightly behind walls even if half their body is sticking out.

Noticed this as well but more so the last couple of days for some reason. Thought it was just me.

Would be nice if when you manually select a target and then they stealth you require that target immediately again once they come out of stealth. The targeting in this game is terrible and when you add in targets popping up and disappearing like yo-yos it’s just flat out stupid.

In all seriousness though, targeting is godawful and broken. When auto targeting is on, there could be 50 enemy players in front of me and sometimes the game thinks its more important for me to attack the deer 50 feet behind me, or the wall to my left, or the bridge under me :/. When it’s off or I am just trying to manually target, and I try to click my preferred target, nope it just wont let me most of the time.

Targetting sucks in this game, always did. Whats also annoying, losing your target for no reason. Just poof.

And to add: I’m a D/D thief. Not a one shot thief, not really a stealth thief, although I “need” stealth. I made a lot of friends while duelling them – and still would if I had a chance against their passive blocks. The thieves you hate are daredevil D/P. Just saying

I know – my pet peeve when I was a ranger – that was my first forum entry btw. There’s target lock in the options now – haven’t tried it but it might help with ranged weapons. I went thief as you know, so I hadn’t had the problem of “randomly” losing my target anymore.
