Necros are very good. One of the best actually, the issue with them is the difficulty in learning to play the class. Now that more people are starting to get a hang of them they’re starting to get the respect they deserve.
Just don’t play a ranger. They’re so unbelievably bad it’s not funny. It’s literally been 3-4 months since one has defeated me, outside Zerg combat.
In WvW the best classes are
Necro/Warrior/Thief
Anyone who says necro sucks just has a bad build/can’t play necro properly.
It kinda annoys me really. One of the great advantages I always had on my necro was being so badly underestimated. Slaughtering fools that think a necro is easy meat was amusing. That’s all gone now though.

Engis actually have great support skills as well as good cc when built properly they can provide amazing support for your melee

Yes I have, I guess you have never dueled a competent necro apparently.
And also for groups of 10+ guardian? no way.. They have crap range etc. Warrior would outshine a guardian any day in large groups.
Let me know when warriors get 3 uncapped AoE CC abilities and 2 AoE group stability utilities.

Aoe has a 5 player cap limit but you think you can kill a zerg in seconds, you roam a necro in zerker gear and you think guardians are worse than warriors in large groups, maybe you should go play a less complicated game.

I agree on the necro part. But if you fight 20 vs 20 (or 25 vs 30) the team with 10 decent guards wins. All those boons + a decent amount of damage wins over raw damage imo.
It just depends who is playing the guards.
2 necros have the power to make 10 warriors useless.
But i love the banners of the warriors.

Anybody that doesn’t rank a necro in the top 3 doesn’t play this game much, or at least doesn’t have awareness about what is actually winning/losing big fights for them.
Guardian/Necro/Warrior are my top 3 followed closely by a staff ele in 4th.
Disclaimer: I am not referring to small man / havoc, just normal everyday W3 fighting.

Yes they are. Trap rangers with a good enough amount of cond + healing are extremely tough fights in 1v1 up to 5 man groups, and they have a good amount of area denial as well.
I’m a bit surprised at how underrated the shortbow Thief seems to be. Having the ability to lay down multiple poison fields with Choking Gas, while also being able to shot over obstacles or walls with Cluster Bomb, is absolutely priceless. Next to that the auto-attack, although severely nerfed now, is able to hit three targets. It’s one of the best AoE weapons in the game.
The Thief is also able to stealth golems or dolyaks for over 30 seconds, they are experts at taking out stragglers in a zerg, they can providing pressure by shadow stepping into a group and cause mayhem, and they are still the fastest profession in the game which makes them superior scouts.

Arguing against someone who thinks a zerker necro without spectral walk is a viable roaming spec is kind of hopeless to be honest.

Zerker gear IS the best choice for a necro yes, I will continue to say this because conditions are broken right now and I have tested every build under the sun for necro. Just saying the damage is very high allowing multiple people to be dropped fast when I dive into a big zerg and do a quick AOE well bomb. And zastari I hope we can duel somehow, and I assure you will take that back Since you rated necro last place out of all classes in WvW backs my point even more that condition based necros are not a viable option. Top necro players do NOT use condition based gear.

mesmers are fine by me… the nerf barely if at all affected the two builds I use. Both my solo glass canon build and my zerg build were untouched by the nerf.
As for the OP… best class now is any one who can use an arrow cart

Zerker on a necro eww maybe knights since well build is one of the best spec and doesn’t run off conditions juggermancer is honestly best necro spec…

Frost shade why ew? 116 percent crit dmg 90 percent crit chance with fury = DS/well bomb death not so ewww to me. Then after the DS vulnerability stacked, do a focus vulnerability skill and auto attack will do 3k/4k/6-8k dmg to finish them off.
Gc anything is eww so easy to counter why I said knights but jugger mancer is where its at 4 fields plus retal and weakness and plague form for mass blind

Zerker gear is 100% viable for necro, as is condition damage you just need to adjust your build and gear accordingly. 9/10 players would prefer condition based builds because quite frankly the necro zerker build is a lot harder to use and not always worth the trouble. As a roamer, bring spectral walk, and bring corrupt boon. You will die half as often and probably never lose against bunker classes(necros never should) just my 2cents.
No I totally agree that zerker is MUCH harder to use, this is why many people don’t do it. People think bleeds etc will suffer SO much without condition gear, but I still get 90+ dmg bleeds without any condition + gear. Plus for distant fights my staff attacks are alot stronger because of crit chance/crit dmg/power. But conditions are just SO weak and easily curable that they are only good for tagging people to get the xp, I have never died from a condition necro it just isn’t that great but 10X easier to use for sure. And the build itself is easy to mess up, even 5-10 points in the wrong area will affect a zerker necro very negatively. It took alot of testing between guild officers/myself to perfect it.

I can see zerker for roaming but in a zvz id personally never use it I’ve tried 3 builds with it just doesn’t work as well in gvg as my juggermancer build btw these are personalopinions based on my playstyle soo if it works well for u use it

It’s very good because of the wells/death shroud AOE vulnerability stacking/crits. And staff does nice damage because of crit dmg so it is very viable for large zergs. You just need to be a little more “aggressive” and strip boons/stun lock/take out weaker ones aswell in melee range. It’s a very hard build to play/master I have to admit. With the right spec + food you can get constant heals aswell and can survive surprising amounts of damage. And like I said frostshade, it’s very easy to mess the build up I noticed in testing 5 points in the wrong trait would seriously hinder the build.

That’s where the necro zerker builds are somewhat different. Due to necro class mechanics we can mitigate large amounts of burst damage, it’s what makes necro zerkers viable because they get slightly less burst and mobility themselves.
It’s semantics really. If you’re good, you can play well with kitten builds, and if you’re bad than you’re going to be bad even with good builds.
Rangers need a lot of help but unlike other classes they don’t complain nearly enough and get offended when everyone says they’re bad. Complain and changes will happen! It’s how the world works.

A well played engineer is an absolute nightmare 1v1. In a big fight though, I hardly notice them.
Until you meet a good bomb or nade engi … or support engi

Firstly that build only works because he’s using a racial skill, secondly confusion was nerfed yesterday lol so even that wouldn’t work even more…
Most of his damage comes from skill not from confusion.

True why I started running bomb kitten or support still great builds just rely a lot upon kits and people don’t like kits
Mesmers are fine. My Confusion build still kills, it just takes literally one to two seconds longer to kill people in a 1v1 situation, and instead of a few Mesmers killing a Zerg, now it takes up to six to kill the Zerg.
I can not comment on the Elementalist because it is one of the few classes I havn’t played.
Thieves have a new toy to play with that is actually fun, and counters bunker/boon builds rather well, but loses to other builds just like a pecking order should. I switched to this new build on my Thief, and I am enjoying it.
All in all the top three classes seem to have remained, well at least for the good players who actually know how to play them. I play two of the three, the Thief, and the Mesmer and I’m having fun on them, and still feel the power.
However the best thing to happen this patch was breaking up the Zerg for now, until they get smart enough to counter Arrow Carts with long ranged siege, and counter siege tactics. Until then the zerg will just bellyache because they now have to use better tactics.
Yay for the arrow cart.
Elementalist lost use of utilities and heal in mist form and got a very large nerf to our condition removal.
I used to be able to get up to 4 conditions every 5 seconds off, but now it is down to 1 every 5 seconds with internal cooldown on condition removal on regen.
Very sad, but I still do very well for myself.
Still a s tanky as ever.
I don’t think all the nerfs are as game breaking as players think they are.
I have had some mesmers I know literally quit over a build that isn’t even the best build to be playing as a mesmer.
Also, I don’t se the problem. Instead of doing 8k damage on high confusion stacks, you only do 4k, it’s not that horrible and I, having played mesmer before as well, think it might be necessary with allt he utility mesmers are able to pull out.
I think this doesn’t leave mesmers without a build, I think arenanet wanted high confusion mesmers to actually have to stack Condition damage to get the effect of high dps. This removes the “Being a tanky aoe with high DPS and killer utility skills” problem out of the game.
With every class they try to take something away if you want to be the best in one area. I think they do a pretty good job.
If you want to be a bunker in something, chances are you are going to do low damage.
It’s how arenanet is looking to balance the classes.

The last 2 patches murderraped engis like ive never seen in any game.
They used to be the strongest 1v1 class with the highest skillcap in the whole game, now they are a joke, the damage got cut in half and every single build i created since beta got destroyed. Im Sick of comments like yours. This class is just a mess. I played alot since patch it became almost unplayable. And dont dare to tell me some l2p crap.
And before you dare to tell anything about HgH crapbuilds with nades, they are a joke compared what other classes have and only noobs get farmed by those.

I Also got an D/D ele and a mesmer and belive me engis got murdered with the last 2 patches while D/D ele ist still superior in every aspect, espacially “support”

I think ranger and engineers are by far the best small man roamers when player correctly.
This comes from having some friends with builds and skill that would make your toes curl if you ever had to fight them solo.
Necros are much better in large scale battles.

He does, and believe me, there are few people who can beat him.
We both play a bunkery-type and when you put us together it takes 10+ to even start to take us down most times because of the proper healing turret and water field usage.
Maybe you should be more open minded.
I have another friend who does a more condition build who is just about the only engineer who has beaten my bunker ele staff build yet. his play style is impressive as well.
There is also a glassy grenadier Engie fromt he guild solo who plays VERY well for having such low HP.
In this case, I do have to say maybe you need to change your build and make it more tailored to your own playstyle.
i fight a lot of different classes and play many and try to keep a very objective outlook.
Engineer class is one of the harder ones to build and play because it’s interesting no cooldown swapping and kit utilities. It needs a certain type of player and sometimes a person will never be good at it given their personal play style..
I know Engineer would not be a class I would be good at even if I practiced daily for a very long time.
This entire thread is about people complaining about builds and not coming up with ways to adapt to the new nerfs.
