An option to disable "orb" buff on myself?
I have nothing against GvG, but it sickens me that you guys are trying to calibrate WvW around GvG instead of just continuing to ask for a GvG mode(Which will eventually happen ), i know you have been asking for this for months, but things are getting the good way, slowly, but they do, so expect GvG and stop trying to speak for all the WvW population :/
EDIT: @Vena.8436: It should’nt, normally, but queues on EB are always high so it is not a solution anyway, GvG’ers should just, like someone suggested earlier, move to the lowest tier servers, it is better for them and for those servers, in waiting for a GvG mode. It’s not that we are calibrating WvW around anything it’s that anet are implementing these changes while not considering the impacts it could have on the GvG community (or they are and ignoring them) either way the obsidian sanctum will most likely be the only solution but it’s not a good one because of the queues and the terrain.
Also moving down to lower tiers is not a good option either because these guilds still run WvW every day and the lower tiers will be boring. It will take a lot of cooperation between guilds to move everyone down the ladder in order to have some even fights.
Indeed, that is what bother me, why do you expect that Anet takes into consideration the GvG community, that itself shows no consideration to the WvW community ? I have been many times on WvW where we only needed 4k points to get back, hence our major guilds are busy WvW’ing, this is what i dont like about GvG, there are some player’s that are massively involved on WvW, ditching dozens of gold for siege blueprints, scouting towers for hours, and then a guild who could’ve helped them is just sitting on a map, procing queues for their own fun, i find it quite egoistic, the only real solution for GvG is a brand new gamemode or a submode on sPvp. I know i have hyperbolised some points but that is just to explain my point of view, dont hate on me because i am not on the gvg fan boat, i’m just trying to have a correct debate.

I wouldn’t say the GvG community shows no consideration to the WvW community, they just want to get their own separate platform in order to stop these arguments. And there are also a lot of players in these GvG guilds with hundreds of siege blueprints (For example I know ME has hundreds of each blueprint in the Gbank for everyone to use let alone what each player carries on person) so I’m not sure about this point your making. And yes GvG players do take up queues but there’s nothing they can do about it, and you say we do it for fun (which is true) so who would be so ignorant to deny gamers fun? It’s quite stupid.

I didnt say this, i told on my first post that i am quite neutral regarding this new buff and the GvG stuff, i am just telling that GvG, actually, is poor design (By players, because there is anything we can do about it ), GvG is indeed lots of fun, but it is egoistic in regards of the really involved WvW players. My point is not GvG being good or bad, i am mostly trying to tell you guys that you should stop asking for GvG QoL/Optimisation changes, and focus on doing some real GvG mode petitions, because GvG in its actual states could (And it depends on the guilds/servers ) hurt the WvW scene.

Please just swap the Outmanned and Bloodlust buffs, something like:
Outmanned:
No armor damage, +150 to pow/pre/etc
Bloodlust:
+20% MF, +20% XP and +20% WXP (for each 3/5 held). Keep the stomps = points part.Everyone wins.
More like:
Outmanned:
150 to pow/pre/etc, +3 points/stomp
Bloodlust:
+20% MF/GF/WXP/XP/Karma (for each 3/5 held), no armor dmg for 2
It just feels as if the wvw devs are doing what they want and just waving middle fingers at the wvw-ers with steady power creep. WvW was my only passion. The 1st real big hit were the 10lvl “guard” masteries. Now this…
sarcasm/ I wonder what is next “stack skill” we will see > lvl 10 mercenary bane giving you 250 toughness for 5 quaggans killed? Way to go, you are awesome, just what we(duh, you) want! /sarcasm

I think GvG is good for the game bad for community IN ITS CURRENT STATE. Without resources for GvG the community that supports it with fervor has been lashing out at the rest of the community. The sooner the format gets support the better for the health of the game. It is a valid play-style (pvp deathmatch)it just isn’t getting attention when it should.

GvG community lashing out? GvG community is being labelled and looked down upon. WE ARE “PART OF” (thanks for the heads up :P) THE WVW COMMUNITY. We are all WvW guilds 1st, do arranged GvGs 2nd. WvW guilds put 10s of hours in each week to WvW. Thousands and thousands of slaughtered foes a week, they may enjoy 1-4+ hours a week of GvG. So stop labelling “gvg community” and all the vile and hatred towards them.
My guild spends more per week on siege than any die hard true “WvW’r” as they like to think of themselves. My guild kills many many times more foes than these “WvW’rs” my guild earns many more points during their activities than … you get the point.
I know of NO guild in EU (don’t know about US scene) that does GvG and doesn’t do WvW. Each of these good strong guilds looking to challenge themselves in a fair even fight with each other are a boon to their respective communities. When pugs and commanders can’t handle enemy zergs, who looks for the fights, who comes back time and time again to fight the hordes, guilds.
What is so wrong with wanting the option to fight opponents on a level playing field?
I gladly walk into the jaws of death and take whatever WvW throws at us during our raids. Double or triple teaming guilds, huge zergs, bring it on. No complaints, but how about some simple love for the option to fight EVENLY with fellow guilds??

What’s this about? There are no Orbs of Power anymore right?
It would “completely invalidate the whole point”… Can I ask (in a non sarcastic way, I know the tone is a little heated in here) what that point is? What is the point, that necessitates a manditory buff. Why does the buff become worthless If there was the option to temporarily disable it? Surely the point is simply to give an advantage to your server, but if I wouldn’t begrudge someone if they wanted to disable the buff for a quick duel. I fail to see how that would “completely invalidate” the purpose of the buff. Maybe I’m missing something.

I know i don’t mean that GvG don’t WvW and i’m not many people do. The distinction is what kind of play the player thinks should take precdence and how they act towards certain WvW play-styles. And the vileness? How else to you expect a lot of people to respond when they are insulted, look-down upon, isolated, and ignored. It is the same thing GvG supporters are getting from Anet and a lot of them readily return such attitudes towards their server mates.
I think if GvG got its due attention this would all stop, but that doesn’t excuse behaviors.

If you’re talking to me, please quote it as it could be confusing, my point has nothing to do with the buff itself or the option to toggle it on or off, i didnt ever speak about it, i am just saying that people should stop asking for GvG features on WvW and focus on mainly asking for GvG as a submode rather than just options, because at the current state of the game, GvG is unhealthy for WvW, that’s it !
Vizunah.
What is with people.. Healthy? Contribute?
This is a game fellas not a fricking job.
During the WvW raids, guilds might take a 5min kitten break or a coffee break. OMG they aren’t contributing, gtfo zone. You see how ridiculous your argument is?
What about all the pugs, commanders, guilds even that can’t hold their own? Or beat 3x their numbers… Should they just be shunned and thrown out as they aren’t contributing??
Who are we to say what is contribution and what isn’t.
The random guy doing his daily, acts as a scout and informs a zerg hunting guild of the enemy… That’s contribution.
The lonely guy escorting dolyaks… that’s contribution (in its own way)
The 20 Guildies Tying up 20 enemy in a gvg for 1 hour = 20 less enemies on map = Contributing.
Where as if that enemy guild of 20, plus a few spectators would be free to farm your zerg and take your keeps.
Explain this “counterproductive” thing. Explain how its not healthy? For a lot of people testing oneself to the full, challenging oneself is the pinnacle of gaming. After all farming zergs 2x 3x 4x your number gets rather dull after awhile.
Surely keeping guilds ingame for the long haul, the option to fight against each other, keeps their interest levels high, skill level high. Longterm health of the game.
On the other hand, kitten on the community, guilds become bored of farming zergs, guilds leave, becomes purely PvD. Where is the PvP element then?
I still have yet to see any names of guilds that do NO WvW and do GvGs. A nice long list would be nice.

Dranul, I’ll explain a bit why GvG being counterproductive is more interesting than everything else you pointed out, it’s quite simple, you CAN implement a solution for GvG, it is completely conceivable and dev’s already spoke on this, even if they stopped caring right after, 20 less ennemies or more is not contribution, one of the 20 will win the GVG, and could have, maybe, had an impact on the game, guilds ARE meant to fight on WvW, but they are meant to fight in a such way that will make their server the best. As for you last point, i know that guilds will get bored of zerg farming etc, i am not against GvG, just read my posts again. As for names of guilds, you may just ask on your server’s, i only know my server’s guild and i dont plan to denounce names, sorry.
Vizunah.
they treat wvw like a PvE Mode. balance doesnt matter
That’s the thing, no one can name any guild that does NO wvw, but does GvG. There are guilds that PvE and do no WvW, but I’ve never in EU seen any guild doing GvG that isn’t doing countless hours of “productive” WvW.
So an average guild, GvGs a top class guild. Tying up their members for over an hour, in that hour the guild could of killed hundreds of your realm mates and taken objectives. Yet they have been tied up for a GvG. Of which this average guild had no chance to stop them in open roaming.
I think a lot of you fail to realise how much guilds contribute by farming the crap out of enemy zergs, break their morale, defend objectives, when needed take objectives.
Maybe if people didn’t all cower together on the top servers like glory grabbers they wouldn’t have an issue with queues. Human nature to want the most for least effort. It seems the only servers/people with issues with GvG being “counterproductive” is people on servers with huge queues.
Should we all take votes at the end of a week, guild A wasn’t productive enough for our server, we should remove them. Guild B are dogkitten and are basically rallybots we should encourage them to move to a rival server.
Its a game, fun, not “efficiency levels”. I have regular Monday Madness raids, where we do stupid funny things, whether it be one race only nights, one class only, or naked earn armour pickups only raids. Or drinking warband nights…. Sure our “effectiveness” drops from our usual high standard but so what?? A game is meant to be played for – shock horror, FUN.
By refusing (idiotically) to have a toggle for the buff, for the lamest nonsensical reason ever. They are in effect removing FUN from a portion of the playerbase.
Who really gives a kitten about PPT and finishing first, yay my server night capped yours hahaha, YaY my server has more students, more unemployed than yours. YaY my server has thousands of players more than yours. If some people find that gratifying fine – whatever I’m not here to judge that.
Just a nice reason as to why we cant toggle it off to have a fair fight doing something we enjoy. It’s not a hard question, yet the answer will not come. They wont admit – “we cant stand you skilful players looking to test yourselves” — Hell Devon thinks skill is based on coverage for Christ sake.

Guys, stop whining, i know i’m going to get rocks thrown at me, but i’m just trying to be honest.First of all, even though we’ve seen previews of the buff system, we have never tested it ourselves, dont kitten on something you have never had the occasion to try, i highly doubt that servers will go for the 3 buffs, or maybe just the first week, secondly, wvw was never about fair fights, what about the upleveled people ? What about people who can afford high cost/effective food ? What about level 300+ people with power/cond dmg/vitality buffs from Wxp ranks ? What about people that can afford ascended thingies and some peoples staying on a mix of rare/exos ? What about the gold cost on omega’s making it much easier to stack/do golem ops on server’s with some rich people in ? Seriously guys, if you want balance, go to sPvp, if you’re whining for the GvG, GvG is quite bad for the wvw community point wise, so it’s against WvW rules anyway, even though i enjoy it and many people do, if it’s for the GvG, wait for a GvG mode, we will eventually get it, the game is evolving at a fast pace, so yeah trust me, we’ll get it. Anyway, i hope i made my point, dont hate on me for just saying what is WvW, wvw is war, if you can get victory, you have to, by any means. Good luck and have fun everyone.
We have tried stat buffs before. Weren’t you here on release? It was absolutely awful and the first change for good Anet did for WvW was removing it. The server with the night crew would get all three buffs. Then their day crew had all three buffs on top of their already larger numbers and could keep all three buffs. Throw in fairweathers in each direction, which we will have more of when they’re matching up server #1 against server #12, and this will be a mess. This is not something new. This is something that clears WvW of players.
Not really. People are asking for a GvG arena, and even without GvG the buff is a bad idea because it enhances the coverage war. Which in my opinion, is a worse problem than the zerg problem they claim this will fix

@Benjamin.6235 I was here on release, and the orb systems isnt the same, orbs were exploitable because you could ninja them, which was fairly easy with a thief or mesmer(or elementalist cant remember ) using some glitches to get to the orbs (The most exploited one was the bay one ). Anyway, they wouldnt have handled it the same way now that the game evolved this far i believe. I’m not defending this buff thingie anyway, just wondering why there is this much people that speak of this without actually testing it, chill down if it is really something that clears WvW of players, it will be fixed asap anyway.
Vizunah.
The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
That’s right, Devon. That’s exactly what we’re asking for (and have been for some time).
There’s been more than enough posts explaining why we prefer to play WvW without this buff – they’ve been a regular feature on this forum ever since the idea of replacing the orb mechanic appeared.
As Anet have committed to reinstating this buff despite our repeated requests not to do this, and further objections to this now contravene forum rules, then we are left with little recourse but to ask for options like this.
So, please, consider our request for an option to personally disable this buff.
(edited by Zenguy.6421)
No. That is not a possibility at this time. The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
Devon now tell us why Anet is so ignorant of what the wvw community want? we dont want that buff at least not with stats increase. why do ypu want it to be implemented? do you want that less ppl pplay wvw so you dont have to fix the server lagg?
and guys dont try that you dont get the buff in certain areas.. its all or nothing.. i wouldnt like to see that gvger get the buff removed in certain areas in wvw while the most ppl dont want this buff in wvw.. .. its all or nothing,,, for me it would be a reason to try and destroy all GvG i will hear of on my server or see

A lot of talk about ‘fair’ fights. Lol, how is WvW in any way currently ‘fair’? Unless every player is max decked out in BiS Ascended, Exotic, max food and consumable buffs, and maxed out on WvW ranks for the life and damage wxp buffs?
And even if you do get a situation where somehow two players, or two guilds are evenly matched in all those things – pretty rare – WvW still isn’t balanced per class, because class balance is matched for sPVP, and they don’t really care about skills or powers that become imbalanced or overpowered at the individual – or team fight – level in WvW. Which is pretty much already just ‘buff wars’.
This is the fun casual mode as much as people try to bury their head and pretend it isn’t. There aren’t fair fights here. There might be fun fights, and you can try and show your skill the best possible as you can, but it is far far far from a level playing field or balanced as is. Orbs and Bloodlust buffs are just more of whats already in the mode.
(edited by Pendragon.8735)
No. That is not a possibility at this time. The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
That makes no sense. Clearly most people who do WvW will be happy to keep the buff, it’s not like a server will capture 3/5 and then just everyone disables the buff for kittens and giggles ?!?! On the other hand GvG’ers and maybe roamers who don’t like to have an advantage over someone else would have the option to disable the buff and it would not affect wvw as a whole at all.
When I will be running around in a zerg I’d keep the buff up 100%, but when I go do a GvG/duel or whatever, it needs to be gone.
The only way it does affect WvW is that GvG will be no more and probably that was the intention and that’s the only reason not to add an option to disable the buff.
maybe we should infrom NC soft that Anet is killing the game and tehy wont earn as much money as before

It doesn’t matter where they are really. It was still waking up to more players with +150 stats that turned WvW into a complete ghost town from time to time.
You have to grab three of these buffs for two minutes each to reset them. Against a mobile karma train that doesn’t want you to have the buff, that’s just as hard as ninjaing a keep. You have to remember that there are servers besides your own. With this league system, every single match-up is going to have a huge population imbalance. Implementing that with a mechanic that even further helps the server in the coverage lead is a really, really bad thing.
Move the queue out of EB please zepher, then players would gladly go there to get rid of that buff, if the buff is not there atleast
it is a separate map, have you been there lately?
You have to go through EB to get to OS, OS is not a solution.
We need a cloned small map with no objectives and no WvW buff to serve as a training grounds. No wxp can be gained there and it has hotm style training areas at each spawn with an open field for fighting
i like this idea, But i think most GvGers kinda want an arena type thing, so they can face off against guilds from All servers(EU and NA), and not have to Xfer around. GvGers r just worried anet will again make the GvG arena a PPT kinda thing, instead of a deathmatch like we want.
we also wanna be able to select the size of the battles(10v10 15v15 20v 20) ,and be able to password the room so only thos in the matchup can get in.
SOR

Yes it does?
Three orbs behind three waypointed T3 keeps is completely different from three of five nodes (or if you like nine of fifteen), in the open field, that de-cap themselves to neutrality if not baby-sat. If you’re trying to tell me that these two things are even remotely similar, I would have to call you completely off your rocker.
The only way this would be even comparable was if back in the day, the orbs walked themselves back up to the northcamp if one person was not standing in each of three completely different locations half way across the map from each other, at any given point in time.
[Eon] – Blackgate
I don’t like the buff, just as I don’t like ascended and other crap like that such as pve mobs rallying people.
But that said, I think this change will give something more for us small groupers to do by fighting the guys trying to hold these zones… It’s not like the huge zergs will be camping them because it gives no wxp and they are mostly mindless lemmings following the wxp train..
Also, now others might stop QQing about us roamers since they will think we are “contributing” to their precious PPT with our stomps.
Can’t the side with the buff just take off a few accessories to even out the stat disparity, for GvG?
I just dont get it. I dont even GvG, but I can relate to this complain, just add an item that does the exact opposite of the buff and thats it. Just like a karma buff or something. If you wanna GvG: buy it for 1c, it lasts for 20min and thats it, if you ignore it… well then nothing changes for you and you can play your WvW like anyone else.
Is there a reason why this can’t be done, other then just “I dont wanna”?

No. That is not a possibility at this time. The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
Devon, it’s become quite resoundingly clear that the WvW ANET team do NOT understand the jewel in their crown, that is WvW open combat. By hook or crook you guys actually made an amazing fast paced, free flowing combat system – that you ARENT even aware of.
Open field combat is frankly amazing (when your servers aren’t lacking like kitten). You do nothing but shun this type of gameplay, revolving every single aspect/update about siege wars. You are either blind to what you have or just plain ignorant, obsessed with your vision of the game, when in reality what you gave the players is far superior to what you intend do deliver. Yet you keep making mind boggling changes that hinder any sort of balance, making everything revolve around zerging and siege. Hell you call coverage SKILL << congratulations.
You really should watch some videos of guilds in action, I am not even suggesting GvG videos (you can’t even bring yourself to say it) I’m talking guilds taking on the masses. Rewarding skill and teamwork taking on superior numbers. Now though, you want to give the servers with the most coverage 150 to each stat.
Please Devon Clarify what “vision” what “insight” there is to rewarding skill less easy moders stacking on the top servers, running in their giant blobs with even more stat bonuses?
Or in English, how about a statement on what is your vision of WvW. Please say sitting on an AC is still one of the most exciting things you’ve ever done, please.
Yours sincerely, one avid WvW open field combat loving Guild Leader.
I think this really succinctly sums up the feelings of a lot of the community. We’re so defensive because we feel like we’re losing the fun of open field combat for a system that is less so. We’re fighting back because we actually enjoy this game and don’t want to see it go down this path. I hope ANet realizes this before it’s too late.
I’m sorry, but I fail to see how we’re losing the open field combat with the changes to the borderlands. From the stream, the points seemed quite easy to contest: no long sieges required and plenty of options for tactical play and actual open field combat.
I think what Devon is saying is that, at the moment, disabling the buff is not feasible on a technical level AND that disabling it would hurt your server, because of the points you would not gain on stomps if you disable it.
A good middle ground would be a “honorable fighter mode” that gives a stat debuff equal to the current buff from the borderland bloodlust, leaving the “gain point for your server on stomp” mechanic active.

Good idea. Stick some NPC at spawn who you talk to in order to receive it, problem solved. And I fail to see how it could be technically difficult for Anet to implement.
Now watch this suggestion get completely ignored because it makes too much sense.
maybe we should infrom NC soft that Anet is killing the game and tehy wont earn as much money as before
… effectively killing the game? Genius.

Can’t the side with the buff just take off a few accessories to even out the stat disparity, for GvG?
or switch from ascended to exotic jewels, if the same stat distribution exists in exotic.
but this solution has quite a few problems:
- doesn’t adapt to the changing buff status (you can have from 0 to 3 stacks)
- hard to find a balanced combo of which jewel to remove
- can’t be verified by the other party: I’m sure no guild would ever want to lose the respect of the community by cheating, but… it is a possibility.

why do you want to kill GvG? honest question
Cause thats the most BS answer i’ve ever heard

Again, I’ll give it 1 month. If nothing gets fixed, I will look for a new game. Well already looking actually.
We never asked for a buff, it is a stupid idea. This favours the server with the most players, because they can miss the most to hold the points. And you killed GvG in the process. Way to go to dissapoint your most hardcore (14hours+/day) players.
As I said before, Gw2 is a gem. But Anet just can’t identify it.

Obviously it’s not ideal, but nothing is going to be. Peoples’ effort would be better spent on coming up with solutions and work-arounds on their own, though, rather than on calling for Devon to be fired. GvG doesn’t need to die over something as miniscule as 150 extra stat points.
The new area is open file combat pure or am I wrong?
From my understanding every design decision is purly taken with only the wvw mechanic in mind. Absolutly nothing else matters here. I think they made that pretty clear – more than once.

A lot of people still don’t want buffs like this in WvW regardless of how it effects GvG. Believe it or not some people (like roamers) don’t want it because it gives them a unfair advantage. Crazy isn’t it, people want fair fights.

I wish they won’t allow anyone to turn the buff on and off. This is World vs World. 1v1 is SPvP.
GvG is.. well… not an option supported by Arena.Net yet… maybe in another game you will find what you are looking for.
Im sorry man, but if I chose to disable my orb buff thats my choice and it doesnt effect you or WvW in the least. Therefore your argument has no merit and is best kept to yourself.
To be frank, it does. It implies that you’re in WvWvW for a reason not intended by the designers AND of no assistance to your world. Try PvP.
Obviously it’s not ideal, but nothing is going to be. Peoples’ effort would be better spent on coming up with solutions and work-arounds on their own.
Solution: swap the Bloodlust and Outmanned buffs.
This will improve the balance between servers (and in doing so make WvW more interesting) as well as allow GvG to continue.
(I don’t know who first came up with this idea but it’s an excellent one, which is why it keeps getting raised. IIRC, the basic idea was around before ANet announced the Bloodlust buff and it keeps being repeated because it’s such a good idea. It’s possible Anet have missed this one, but I’d be surprised given how often it keeps appearing.)
The new bloodlust is nothing more than sPvP being forced on us WvW players.
I hate sPvP and the entire failure that is tPvP.

This “solution” has been available for the past year. The developers clearly don’t want to do it. Again, find your own solutions, with the tools you currently have in the game, rather than calling for the developers to “fix” it for you.

Yeah I agree with you on this, the GvG meta should adapt.
Also, I never asked for Devon to be fired, actually I think he’s doing a good job and I really love and look forward to play in the new borderland area

All the WvW changes this year suggests ANet no longer think of WvW as a fortress oriented game and instead are turning it into just another large scale point capture game. Specifically:
- Improved siege and WXP abilities have steadily eroded the effective defence of locations
- Rewards for captures have increased significantly while the rewards for holding locations are virtually unchanged
Personally I think this is a shame, as it is only the siege<>fortress aspects of WvW that distinguish it from the myriad of point capture PvP games that are out there.
There are a lot of people here who assume players either are ALWAYS, 100% of the time, contributing to ppt, or NEVER ever contributing.
Fact is that a significant portion of the WvW population contributes sometimes and doesn’t contribute other times. If you force everyone to contribute all the time, many of these people will leave the game — not because they hate to contribute, but rather because they want more variety.
By the way, if you force everyone to contribute to ppt, you’re not going to get more ppt players… many people will just not log on.
