What if players could place bounties on other players and guilds that killed them? I know it gets a bit messy in the implementation given the complexity of combat in the game but I do think this would create an entirely new reason to fight either for notoriety or the cold hard cash of collecting bounties.

Not sure it is feasible but an interesting idea I believe.

Seriously was just talking about this in another thread. I agree. I’d love to hunt specific famous players down. Plus if I ever got a bounty on my own head, that would definitely give even more incentive to flying across battlegrounds and not getting caught.

well the only problem I see is what if multiple people killed the bounty, who claims it? More than one person attacking them causes the kill to register for the entire party.

Split rewards if a party ganks. But players don’t call bounties make a system that calls the players making the most kill and puts a marker on them.

I was think more of a contract system where players would place bounties when they died for X number of deaths. Bounty Hunters would ask an NPC for an open contract. That contract would be for a random bountied player that is online. Whenever the hunted player got near any enemy NPC guards his general location would be sent to the hunter(s).

Players that get bounties would get notoriety ranks and players that collect bounties would get fame ranks. The rank would determine the number of active contracts a hunted player could have at one time. It would also determine the number of contracts a Bounty Hunter could pursue at a time.

It could get even more interesting if the system placed bounties on players that routinely flipped camps, killed guard scouts, tagged WPs, etc.

Basically an entire system revolving around notorious players being hunted and reveling in it all on both sides.

Technically once the bounty is claimed there is no reason for it still be up. It would be pretty silly if someone would have to leave because people are “farming” the bounty on his head.

Yeah whats up with that? After some months away, I re-installed and I kept running into Thieves that blow up on shatter. I kinda expected more condi tbh or at least some more evade spam >.>

Players would only be able to issue bounties against players that did the most damage to them when they died. Just because a player has a bunch of gold doesn’t mean they could issue a bounty on other players.

Also in a system I proposed above, only players that accept a contract given at random would be hunting specific bountied players. The more contracts put out on a player, the more bounty hunters would be looking for them. So basically only the most prolific killers would have a bounty problem.

Yeah whats up with that? After some months away, I re-installed and I kept running into Thieves that blow up on shatter. I kinda expected more condi tbh or at least some more evade spam >.>

They are falling into the dependent on other players concept. When you have so many roamers you can often go a bit glassy knowing full well you’ll have backup, catch them alone though….

I think what catches a lot of people off guard with my necro is I don’t run condi and solo roam. Condi has become autopilot mode and boring. I think a lot of us are just expecting “great another xyz condi player” because lets face it you see that +18% duration food and roll your eyes. I don’t blame them for running to win meta junk though. Just wish people would take a chance and quit worrying that there guild tag matters more than just having fun.

I would like to see some kind of bounty system based on how little you’ve died recently and how many kills you’ve gotten.
With some kind of reward, but it can’t be something too flashy or people will go hide to not die. That wouldn’t be fun. Seen it in other mmos

If im not mistaken this is how the wexp reward for player kills work right now.

Clearly anet doesn’t play wvw then………map chat has been the 180 of those rules for 4 years lol

In fact reported a guy who was out of control spewing pretty awful stuff in team chat and who is well known for it.

Result: he is still playing and at it again. Sent screenshots to anet, reported, went through the proper channels.

Zero action. So their policy is a joke.

Maybe I’ve misunderstood what’s being proposed here.

I’m envisioning something where somebody can say, “ok, that Jeknar, Straegen, and Jim Hunter are some diabolical perpetrators. So I’m going to set aside this 1000 gold so people from my server get an extra 10g every time they kill one of those guys.” This might even increase the likelihood of zergs running down single roamers.

If there’s a visual indicator of a bounty on someone, it also makes driver sniping even easier. Just put the name of the known driver in the Bounty-o-Matic and everyone sees them and targets them accordingly (no need for standard visual ID and targeting required).

Both of those seem kind of lame to me, with no real gain than just putting out in map chat, “Hey everyone, if you see that bloody [Sold] mesmer around, be sure to punish him with cheesy gooddness”.

Or am I thinking about this wrong?

Regardless whether or not ANET takes the policy serious is irrelevant. Player conduct needs to be respected by players.Focusing attention on one player because that player is enjoying the game playing by the rules is simply unethical .I wouldn’t want to be responsible for a player quitting the game or worse because that person was unexpectedly targeted.It seems to me that if some people get their kicks trolling ,harassing by openly organizing the targeting other people should be seeking psychological help.

I do not know what anyone here is talking about. In T1 NA BG has an entire guild whose only goal is to pick off specific commanders. I’m 100% sure that they were bought by BG as they only started appearing about a month ago. They have every one of out commanders followed as well as spies on our server to watch the maps to see where we go. Hell they even have spies in out TS, as when we have swapped commanders without swapping the tag (Only said hey “Back up commander” you take it) they IMMEDIATELY swapped targets.

Now I’m sure that they did this as they are losing and just can’t handle not being the best, anyone who has ever been in T1 understands this. The constant AJing, Kitten Jamming for those who don’t know what that means, the running from even numbered fights, none of it has helped them, and they know it.

I also cannot say that we haven’t done the same thing. When a prominent streamer transferred to a server that we were faced against we assembled a murder team to go and moa him and pull him and just harass him until he stopped commanding or rage quit streaming. This continued for weeks until he gave up and transferred to our server to spy for his guild, which just allowed us to farm him even more.

Bounties have always been a thing. I have seen people offer 10-15-20g a kill (with proof) of “celebrity” Commanders. They have followed through on dropping hundreds of gold just to kill one or two specific people on servers.

The bounty system would not work. The person in question would create a second account, run both accounts simultaneously (which is possible from what I have been told), and kill the character. The same person would then earn the bounty reward. You would be doing nothing more than feeding and equipping the person you placed a bounty on. I have no doubt they then would proceed to properly equip all their characters, and you’d be making an enemy who will only outclass you even more.
