Builds you like/dislike to fight/play
I like to fight good players in 1v1. Being forced to go up to 100% effort to get a kill is one of the joys of fighting those players. I don’t just mean 100% effort to overcome the tank of some classes/builds. I mean 100% effort to both deal and avoid damage.
I don’t mind being crushed by a good condi-mesmer because I’ve fought bad condi mesmers and know how easy it can be to kill them. It does take skill to properly manage your class and so if I lose it is often to a skilled player. Same for the other classes.
I dislike playing against 3v1 constantly. As a solo roamer that is often the case. I roam both for fights and for taking out yaks and camps and destroying the gate siege on keeps. If I have to, I’ll switch targets if I’m being 3v1’ed by good players who will res one another 85/100 downs. That is part of the game but I prefer situations where I can fight 1v1 against builds that are tanky enough that +1s complicate the fight.
Dislike playing as and fighting against Staff Druid. I think it’s because the relative effort you have to put in to kill the Druid compared to what the Druid has to do is enormous. I just can’t bear to use staff in any of my builds anymore.
Also dislike fighting and playing as D/P thieves because it really is overtuned. So much damage just from basically auto-attacking and shadow shotting. Just nothing like the class I once enjoyed.
Like playing as and fighting against interrupt Mesmer because it’s one of the last things in the game that feels like it requires some effort from the player. When I win on an interrupt build I actually feel like it’s because of something I did rather than just because of certain traits I happen to have. Fighting against a decent interrupt Mesmer is a joy because it takes some decent knowledge (at least for GW2) to know what types of interrupts should be used and what key skills must be interrupted to succeed.
Sadly interrupt mesmer got a lot harder since HoT, stability was handed out like candy as well as blocks and evade frames. Nothing more annoying than playing an interrupt mesmer and seeing immune popping up all the time or just not having a window to interrupt the key skills like heals, elites, heavy damage.
Still like power block for fighting druids, eles and necros but it’s nearly worthless on thief, dragon hunter, scrapper, rev and warrior who I see more and more in WvW.
Also about the comment a few made about mesmers and thieves being cannibalistic, I think most high burst, high mobility classes are big targets for those that run those builds. They’re the only ones capable of shutting you down with the least relative effort.
That druid build we all know that won’t die.
berzerker can be anoying to, cant outdamage their healing and the pack a ton of damage… i guess it is the price for mace on guard lol….
I find it annoying to fight thieves with stealth. I usually dont bother. Even though I can kill them usually, they take up too much time. It just isnt enjoyable. As a personal principle I refuse to run any stealth on my Daredevil and it works extremely well!
Warrior – The New Burninator! Strongbad would be so proud!
Guardian – Burn for you, heal for me, block for me and uh…sorry Im all out of gifts.
Builds? Pfff I fight any builds.
What I dislike is fighting against that certain type of roamer that will happily and confidently go 1v1, yet at the first sign of loosing he is off like a rat on fire, presumably to save his 25 stacks or something. Or even worse, those that do the same in a small skirmish and abandons their mates.
Respect for those that stand and fight to the death even when their class/build could have let them escape.
Ran into my first Dire D/D condi Thief with Lotus whirl dodge w/ Caltrops, Signet of Agility, and acro for good measure. That was kittening horrific.
I watched several groups of people trickle in trying to kill him for several minutes (usually around 3 at once). Every one of them was every downed or forced out to reset. And all he did was spam 3 and evade. Popping signet, steal, & heal on CD to keep himself healthy and stocked on iniative & dodgerolls.
It was pretty bonkers. I love that gw2 has so much build depth but I dislike how mindless some of the execution can be.
I find a lot of builds in this game lack tactical counter-play. Once the fight begins, outcomes are often pre-determined based on rock-paper-scissors. Fortunately, there are still some great fights to be found!

If you have strong kiting potential, that’s something that this build has trouble against. Since it requires being on top of it’s target to deal significant damage, your best bet is to force them to constantly close the gap on you.
Longbow Ranger can do quite well against this build if you’re good at kiting them around. If not Ranger, longbow Dragonhunter or other things that are effective at the keep away game. Think of them as a melee Warrior. If you can stay away from them, it becomes a bit comical watching them struggle to get close to you while you whittle them down. All that damage that they have and nothing they can do with it.

Funny you mention that build. I myself ran into one yesterday when on my trusty glass staff ele in WvW and I was left wondering what was the risk this guy had fighting me? I mean, he could escape anything whenever he felt too much pressure but you couldn’t escape him no matter what. And all he needed was one successful condi bomb he could launch from stealth (that he abused like a kitten) after water attunement and it was over. Risk/reward management could be better if you ask me…

At least you have them to engage you 1v1. I know some who won’t leave their cannons unless the odds are 3:1 in their favor.

My favorite build to run is vanilla condi dire engi. I find its the most safe build and way to run solo wise in wvw, at least for me it works.
Biggest dislike is those boring thiefs that just vault around like a bunny rabbit on speed, I usually just kite them and watch them try to run away with poison and bleed stacks only to find them in downed state. You can’t vault forever
Overall, favorite above all class is necro and will always love any build when roaming.

Now PPK is not only a thing but grants as much as a camp does in 1 tick I don’t begrudge people running from a losing fight. Would be polite to /salute from a safe distance as an indication that the other guy won.
But some people see that as a loss because his opponent got away, nothing worse then having a good fight only for you ‘lose’ because they managed to leg it, and that freindly /salute would be flipping them off more then anything.

I dunno, some people are easily annoyed. If I force someone to disengage and generally give me a wide birth in the future I consider it a win whether I kill them or not. If the person that ran away keeps coming back and trying to kill you especially when you’re fighting others then I’d be pretty annoyed.
For example last night (and other nights) I kept attacking you and the other Drgr thieves to stop them attacking our newer and less experienced members. I usually couldn’t 100-0 you guys but you certainly high tailed it when you only had 10% health left. The constant keeping an eye and counter bursting/stunning helped minimise the impact you could have on picking people off without it costing you.

There should be a voice line like, “Guys? Guys?” to let you know the guys you were fighting with suddenly and silently ran away. The second most frustrating thing people on your team can do after, back in the day, doing CoF with four Warriors and hearing rifle fire from behind you…
I asume you’re that big ugly norn driod. It got to the point that you became the main target as in open feild we couldn’t do much with no Los.
I may be a dirty scum bag thief but I do not gank in even numbered fights unless it’s at an objective and even then I’ll let them be.

Yes I don’t understand the point of “escaping”. Unless it’s a pve type person who isn’t ‘invested’ in wvw. When I back off, or run, it’s to get back some health and come and try again… but mostly it’s just do or die.. that’s the fun of it. I hate losing the stacks but meh… not hard to get them back

Not only that. It’s easy for someone to say “I fear no build” when that someone run an apex build that offers 10 different safe guards in case he makes mistakes and mostly prey on riskier builds and new players.
Excuse me to try and escape a bunch of heralds or DD when I accidentally run into them alone whit my glass staff ele. That I often manage to escape (and sometimes even win) is already quite impressive to begin with.

Running from a hopeless fight is the more strategic thing to do. It saves you time and (I guess) stacks, allowing you to move on to a fight you can win, respond to a contested point, flip something else, etc.
As I care less and less about things like score (I have almost no concern about it at this point), I find myself less inclined to run from fights though. I also regularly find myself diving into clumps of five or more (including 20+) to see how I’ll do now too.

What tier is everyone on? My tier it’s only EB zergs, even a 3 man flipping a camp will summon a hefty 20 man group….
….. And Elementalist.

Yesterday was having fun on my commander/wanderer mesmer and using feedback and the focus five phantasm to stop those silly Druids from doing anything at all.
Normally I play my zerker ele and enjoy all the people that go down within a zerg.
This morning I found nothing but frustration on my soldier revenant against a couple trap hunters. And then taking a camp took forever. So back to glass builds.
It sounds like I need to bring my carrion mesmer to WvW though since everyone hates them. Should be good revenge.

I’ll make sure to wave next time but then again I don’t particularly enjoy GH match ups due to the disgusting amount of ganking from Psy and Drgr. TaG and TAL are more respectful and fun but dunno if I’ll be taking part much more this week tbh.
I don’t like fighting Dire DD thief, that’s not very fun, espec. with strayan latency

Are ;( are you sure it was me? I don’t play d/p much. I dunno about our server for Ganking, I know drgr like to gank especially when they run with multiple thives, but a lot of you are condi hardcore…Tash are the main culprits here lol.
Back on topic I will fight anyone but I tend to stay away from dh trappers if I don’t feel like trying my luck with 1.
