Can't anyone respect a duel?
KnT Blackgate
If I see a teammate in a 1v1 I rush in to help him/her.
What’s next, if I count 3 enemies and I come as 4th ally, should I need to step back and wait until the 3v3 has finished?
If you want to duel / 1v1 go sPvP. In WvW, if it’s red it’s dead regardless how many numbers are on each side.
So I’m running supplies or whatever and come across two people fighting, one is on my side, the other isn’t. Do I stop and think ‘oh it might be a duel, better stand back and watch’? Don’t be stupid. Unload everything on the enemy player, get him dead, and save your team mate who can get on with whatever server helping activity he was doing before he was jumped by the opposition.
No thought process involved. Other than maybe ’it’s a trap, he’s a spy and it’s bait to drag me in before ten of them appear from nowhere and roflstomp me and pretend that they are leet’.
WvW does not mean Warrior vs. Warrior it means World vs World and i help every teammate who is fighting an enemy.
As many said already sPvP is for you

When I see a “duel” I think Oh boy! Finally an engineer’s chance to get some assist action going!
Sorry
Stop dueling in wvw, you occopy one spot from a guy who actually wants to play the game.
This old chestnut. This came up again and again in DAoC and WAR.

Best one this week. I wonder if OP or anyone else miss the point. LoL
Yeah, it pisses me off when a third wheel pops up from somewhere as it often makes the fight trivial. When this happens, I just move away from the fight.

Off with their heads! No mercy!
If the duel takes place according to the gentleman’s rules – at sunset and after each duelist walks exactly ten steps away from the starting point – I leave them be.
No. It’s wvw, not 1v1ing.
Off with their heads! No mercy!
As mentioned by others, you’re in a WvW zone. Red is dead. (unless I need to run somewhere fast)
I do think the pack mentality of most people has never been as quite well displayed as it is on World vs World. I’ve seen 80 level characters fully equipped running from a single upleveled character to the safety of their zerg instead of finding out whether their build and skills are worth anything in actual combat.
I know it’s a game of points, but don’t people enjoy the actual fighting itself? Whenever there’s a group of 5 or less people I’ll have a go at it solo. I’ve won against greater numbers only because people are so hesitant to fight, not because I’m some overly skilled player but because people will turn their backs and run.
Now I play for the team but I did have some 1v1’s for personal amusement a couple of times and was interrupted a lot of the time. One time a player from a third server attacked us in the midst of a 1v1 and both me and my enemy stomped him and resumed our battle. That was fun.
(edited by TheGreatA.4192)
Nope. I’m afraid if I see a 1v1 in WvW I will always step in unless the person from my server asks me not to.
If you really want to 1v1 uninterrupted do some sPVP or find a secluded area in WvW and invite some randoms passing by for a duel.
I’ve had soo many good duels in WvW be ruined by some other guy, either from my team or my enemies, or a small group.
If you see two people in the middle of a battle, think for a second before you rush in and try to get the last couple hits. Maybe they are having fun, maybe they don’t want to be disturbed.
When I think back at all the PvP I have had in games from the days of MUDs, UO, DAoC, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, etc, etc. I have no specific memories of times I rolled around zerging objectives and other groups, but I do remember the epic small fights and rivalries/friendships and thus it is important for me when I play to seek out those moments, not just participate in the rotating objective train.
A few weeks ago I was trying to have a 1v1 with a guardian. Our fights were taking to long though so we kept getting people adding on the fight, mostly his server. He would step back and I would either kill or avoid until they left and we would restart. Then along comes 4+ (memory is fuzzy) of the third server trying to kill us, so with a few points and gestures we 2v4+’d them. We never did get to finish our fight, but had a lot of fun trying. I will remember that fight.
In the end you cannot control how other people play, just how you play. I choose to step back and watch fights. I choose to let people have their cross-server ‘friendly’ events without interrupting them. I choose to join in and dance and laugh if I find an enemy doing the same. I expect none of that from anyone else, just appreciate it more when it happens.

All of these comments about “wasting everyone’s time” by dueling disappoint me.
God forbid we sacrifice a whopping 10 more points to doing something fun in WvW that doesn’t involve zerging or camp flipping.
Usually if I find a cool invader/defender to mess around with and a teammate gets a little jumpy, I usually stop fighting and just tell my teammate to lay off cause we’re trying to 1v1 and he can have the next turn if he wants.

I run solo a lot, especially when doing jumping puzzles or scouting.
So yeah….I fully endorse this ’ duelling’ idea, next time you see me (a lone mesmer, specced for 1v1) kindly form an orderly queue and fight me 1v1
Im easy to recognise as I tend to /wave,
I seldom try to engage people 1v1 when scouting, the mission comes first and being a 1v1 specced mesmer duelling and winning isnt really that much of an achievement, while dying would really shatter my fragile ego :-p
If you people don’t want to be disturbed, think for a second. Maybe you should go somewhere where you will not be disturbed. Maybe your friendly PvP is better suited, not in WvW, but in PvP.
Many of us use duels to test new builds. your stat selection choices are very limited in sPvP. None of the builds I run can be made in sPvP, not even close.
To be honest no one knows what is a duel and what isn’t.. don’t blame people for jumping in.
It’s pretty obvious when there are 10 people standing around from each server watching 2 fight in the middle that this is a duel.
Yeah, it pisses me off when a third wheel pops up from somewhere as it often makes the fight trivial. When this happens, I just move away from the fight.
This typically, the person that adds will just get roflstomped by a practiced duelist anyway. I just let them die and rest the duel.

This is true to a point, there are places in the WvW maps that are really in the boonies with no objectives anywhere around. Yet ppl will roam around to those places and look for duelers with their 5-man. This is why it’s safer to organize a larger “fight night” so there are enough people standing there from each of the sides to wipe anyone who interrupts the duelers.
Red. Dead. No redemption.

It’s WvW not 1v1. Here’s why i’ll jump in and interfere with your dual every time:
1) Enemy wins, now you have a potential dolyak killer on your hands.
2) Enemy wins, possible solo supply camp attempt. Wastes other peoples time to deal with.
3) Enemy wins, they may cap sentries which people on my server will inevitably take back out, wasting valuable time.
4) Enemy wins, ally annoyed I didn’t help.
5) If I help, fight is over faster making another ally on the map available for doing useful things again.
6) Finally a selfish reason, maybe I want easy loot or badges.
It’s rarely logical to allow someone to duel if you’re walking past, because the costs of your ally losing could be significant. If you lose a supply camp because someone lost a duel, how many come back to take it back compared to just me interfering with the fight? Think people…
You think duelers stomp each other? Why would they do that? The idea is to fight over and over improving your strategy vs theirs. you learn so much more about other classes vs your class this way.
What I do when I see two guys fighting:
- If the guy from my server is winning → I kill the other guy
- If the guy from my server is losing → I kill the other guy
- They are not fighting → I kill the other guy
Dueling is a fun way to pass the time and improve your build/skills when there’s no other pressing objective going on. We’ve owned the scoreboard all week, so I was fortunate enough to find some sparring partners to test out a new build with (cheers to SF for being good sports). As Adaneshade pointed out, most people dueling don’t stomp each other. They’ll just back off or sit when someone is downed.
That said, it IS still open-world pvp, and dueling or not, you’re fair game. The red is dead rule trumps all. Duel at your own risk.
I don’t complain about it, usually the person adding in fails at PvP anyway so it’s no contest. Duelers just back off and let their opponent wreck the person adding in. So duelers still get badges ^.^
My point is that my style of gameplay is no less valid than someone who only cares about the objectives. I quite simply don’t care whether my server wins or loses this battle of zerglings.
To be honest no one knows what is a duel and what isn’t.. don’t blame people for jumping in.
It’s pretty obvious when there are 10 people standing around from each server watching 2 fight in the middle that this is a duel.
You think every duel has 10 people standing around them… you are wrong. The other day I found 2 people dueling with no one watching them they were doing for their own enjoyment.
I’m well aware of that. But even with a full audience, baddies will still rush in to add.
BTW, good duel night before last bunzy ^.^ Was the bunker Sword/Dagger thief at windmill.
It’s hard to tell if a team mate has their “1 v 1” build on….
I’ve had soo many good duels in WvW be ruined by some other guy, either from my team or my enemies, or a small group.

Personally, I would rush in and kill you. Knowing that you could be a madbro and create a thread about it. It would be something fun to share with my guild “look, madbro n.1 created a thread after I kittenon his duel in WvW”.
http://blacktalons.guildlaunch.com/
I will not only interfere with a duel, I will do so repeatedly. I’ll follow the dueller around hoping he leads me to more free loot. Yeah, trick that enemy into thinking it’s just the two of you for me
Maybe they are having fun, maybe they don’t want to be disturbed.
Maybe I don’t care?
If you want to 1 vs 1 go to SPvP…. in 1 vs 1. This is an all out war. If I see an enemy (whether that’s you or the person you’re “dueling”) I’m doing everything I can to kill them. And if that hurts your feelings you can craft yourself a nice juicy lemon to suck on.
By all means, keep adding in ^.^ We duelers need to make badges somehow, you stand pretty close to zero chance of successfully killing good duelers.
Since antiquity people have been taking rvr/wvw, whatever, way too seriously.
Respect peoples fights and they will respect yours. It benefits everyone but the ‘for the realm’ types.

while youre in WvW to do your duels, farm, jumping puzzles, portal to lions arch, quick bank access, crafting and world completion. Maybe try doing some WvW once in a while aswell…

Sorry, until something which discourages zerging is put into place, I will not be participating in the “objectives”. Zerging creates lazy players, and bad PvPers. I will, however, be dueling it up at every opportunity as I like some challenge to my fights.
Course not, too many zerglets in WvW.
Well I can either do nothing and watch you two fight, OR get in there, help shank that enemy, get some monthlies done, maybe even a badge of honor, AND the opportunity to dance on their body.

I honestly don’t think many of you who complain so much about zergs even really play WvW at all. You obviously just run around solo, or in a very small group and look down on the large scale battles going on all around you, but the truth is those large scale battles are what matters, and are often very challenging and skill based affairs.
If large group combat isn’t your cup of tea, fine, but the idea that you’re so great and everyone who is actively taking part in huge battles to capture or defend difficult targets are “lazy” “bad” and as the other person said “cowards”…. is just ridiculous.
When are people going to figure out there’s a war going on?
If it’s someone I know, and is a confident player I’ll chill – but most people would prefer you just get in there and make em dead. Better safe than sorry. If I see someone getting jumped by a stealth Thief – I come at them hard and put them down without any pause or mercy, because Thief.
Dueling in WvW is complicated, and best done with a relaxed attitude
There’s some opponents I know by sight, and we’ll often split off our zergs and go off to have a fight somewhere alone, as far as I know we don’t get mad if our combat is interrupted (more often than not it is), we just commiserate with each other via emote.
When I see a “duel” I think Oh boy! Finally an engineer’s chance to get some assist action going!
Sorry
OMG you made me laugh hard :p
Duels against bunker engies at sPvP are really fun, don’t know why I don’t see many of those in WvW.
All of these comments about “wasting everyone’s time” by dueling disappoint me.
God forbid we sacrifice a whopping 10 more points to doing something fun in WvW that doesn’t involve zerging or camp flipping.
Quoted for pure truth.
And PLEASE people, have some decency and stop saying you don’t duel or you interfere any duel you see because duels are useless in WvW. We ALL know you don’t duel because you don’t know how, and you interfere because it’s a safe 1vs2+ situation = free badge.
Of course some of you may be that guy who run supply, scort yaks, flip camps before the tick and quaggs constantly, repair walls and gates, spend 15 min sweeping for mesmers after caping a keep, throw blueprints when needed, scout to send intel and stuff like that. But we ALL know that most of you are not. And I know because I spend most of my time at WvW doing those things, and VERY few people are with me.
So really, stop trying to fool anyone with the “duels are useless, go sPvP”.
After spending 20 minutes running supply to siege a keep up, of curse I feel free to duel if I see an enemy willing to.
That’s way more fun to me that running in a zerg to level my alts or farm badges and karma for my legendary.
Oh, and most sPvP hot joins are a glory grind fests, at less you join an empty server. But if I did that, I wouldn’t be able to do all the other stuff I do in WvW.
You think duelers stomp each other? Why would they do that? The idea is to fight over and over improving your strategy vs theirs. you learn so much more about other classes vs your class this way.
Don’t bother. These selft-proclaimed WvW team-players don’t even know what a duel is : p
World vs World, not 1 Player vs 1 Player. I see red, it dies.
World vs World, not 1 Player vs 1 Player. I see red, it dies.
Once again, I welcome the chance to prove to you why you should leave duelers alone. A non-dueler doesn’t stand a chance vs someone who practices hours a day in 1v1 combat vs a variety of classes/builds.
You will quickly find yourself outmatched and in a 1v1, because no dueler will assist someone who just added in on their fight.
TL:DR- Please, by all means, add in. ^.^
world vs. world is, by definition, not dueling. dueling in the corner of the map does absolutely nothing to defend an area, nor to attack it. if we lose an area because 15 people were too busy playing “fight club”, i’m not going to be a happy camper. in fact, i will go out of my way to lead 50 people over top of that spot, and if i could kill the people on my own server who would handicap the team like that, i would as well.
when i’m in WvW, i have one job to do: give my team the best chance to win as i possibly can. i work myself to the bone in there. if there’s a job that needs done, you can rest assured that i’m doing that and a few others at the same time. i lay everything i have on the line. so if my workload gets extended even further because some selfish clown wants to be brad pitt, then i will break it up, slap him upside the back of his head, and tell scooter to get back in the game.
There is no room for dueling in WvW.
world vs word vs word =/= individual vs individual
go to spvp subforum and ask for 1v1 matching system if you like dueling so much and remember to set this rules too
If the duel takes place according to the gentleman’s rules – at sunset and after each duelist walks exactly ten steps away from the starting point – I leave them be.
All these dopes saying 1v1 is of no place in WvW and is a waste of time to justify why it is worth ruining a 1v1 need better logic. Because ruining someone’s 1v1 and turning it into a 2v1 has more of a point to it and is not wasting your own time? It is these kinds of people who will run away from a 1v1 but when they see one of their team mates coming nearby, will instantly run back and attack the person who was chasing them.
@ Raincrow. There is nothing “skilled” about large scale zerg battles. Yes, it is what “matters” or makes the “difference” but there is no skill to it.

we arent discussing if we support 1v1s or not, we are discussing that wvwvw isnt the personal battleground for anybody, especially when you can loot badges from any dead enemies which you were involved with his death.
all these dopes trying to justify when theres ‘’a dueling’’ your world partner must stay there watching or everyone else who walks near, by saying ‘’oh they are dueling, i must not interfere’’
Hence WvWvW is for ’’cat’’ sure not a place for demand 1v1s’ if you happen to have one, good for you.
I dont do SPvP, i would go and play a MOBA or a FPS if i wanted that kind of pvp system, but you can try and spread the word here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp for 1v1 match system or even in the PvE map so they can duel while waiting for a dragon.

Hasn’t been an issue so far. You all go down just the same.
That said, if you’re strong enough to turn it around, then good! I certainly won’t complain if I go in and lose. More power to you. But you (and by “you” I mean duelers in general and not you specifically) don’t get to complain that other people are choosing to play by the game’s rules instead of your own twisted version.
