Catapult Behind the Gate
It’s the lamest tactic ever.
Seen a couple catapults behind my own servers doors and wished I could kill them myself.

I feel like we should spread the word and everyone use this tactic. Then maybe they will do soemthing about it. Ive been holding off on condoning it, but Im sick of a siege grinding to a halt even after we have cleared the walls and control the gate area, simply because a couple guys have cats on the gate.
Cheese tactic, but it effectively holds off any siege without trebs.
ET uses this strat on almost every keep that is defended from what I can tell.
It’s a general problem that AOE / abilities (finishers ex) goes through the gate.
It should be fixed as soon as possible IMO.

If a keep is low on fortification, you can take if before they can build enough catapults.
If a keep has catapults, you can siege again the walls from afar, or even build catapults of your own to take down the gate.
Its called tactics. Don’t build a ram and get killed by a catapult, only to run back up to the same door with another ram. Adapt. Catapults are expensive, and prone to getting hit by a Trebuchet from a distance. Take out the Catapults and then use your rams.

Whats tactical about shooting your own gate from the inside… splash damaging through the gate to hit the ram? Im not seeing it. Im also not seeing how you can take out a catapult thats in the courtyard directly behind the gate. If there is a way, id like to hear it.

Suddenly, people from the other servers switch so that they can purposely destroy the other servers forts from the inside to help their own server.
Great solution. This just opens up the floodgates for griefers.
Simple fix. Make it so AoE doesnt go through doors only.
I believe an Anet employee said that their code doesn’t allow to remove aoe clipping issues, so I suggest introducing friendly fire damage. That way the defenders will be damaging their gates in the process.

yes place a catapult and bash these castle, tower, keep walls, its much efficient than building rams and die alot from cannons, arrow carts

Tell you what, we will stop using catapults behind gates when your AoE and Catapults stop rendering repair of the gates/walls impossible. Do we have an accord?

I hadn’t thought of the griefing part that free transfers would allow for subvert activity such as purposely attacking a wall or door. That is an issue.
However, I thought of 6 things someone one could do right now that is far more effective at grieving in WvW by abusing free transfers.
The answer to solving a lot of issues in WvW seem to revolve around stopping the free/unlimited transfers ASAP.

Deal, so long as you let us shack up in your fort.
How about having catapult and treb have a min distance before they do damage. So it need to travel say 1200 or something before it can actually do damage and if it hits anything closer then that it counts as a “missfire” and does no damage. They are meant to be long range siege weapons after all.
Build your own catapult, this time aimed at the outside of their wall.
Have your zerg stand by to defend the catapult from an all-out assault once they figure out your strategy.
Catapult beats catapult. Don’t waste resources on flame rams.
I would think it would be simple to make ram operators immune to the catapult knock back as a temporary fix.
1) Remove their access to supply.
2) Treb walls
3) Ram only after 1 and 2 have been completed.
Or…
Just cry on the forums.
I havent seen this tactick but that is awefully stupid. They need to fix this. It makes absolutly no sense. How can you do dmg through an object without dmging the object?

Or you use what allows you to think if they have 3 catapults behind the door you build 2 back enough so aoe’s can’t touch them. A group of 7-8 guys defending it and the door won’t last 5 minutes.
There is more in WvWvW than just breaking doors with a no brain bus, the map allows you to elaborate strategies using Siege weapons, you just have to think and spent time looking for nice spots to work with!

Exactly, while the game isn’t trying to be identical to medieval times, whats wrong with using trebuchets and starving places of supplies…
Thats the “ambience” you are supposed to be looking for. I am happy everytime I see a very well placed piece of siege machinery. Towers and keeps shouldn’t be flipping ownership every 10 minutes.
