We have server, guild and player of the year, so I figure, let’s give back to some of the people who run the show from the front lines.

Rules: You may not name commanders in your own guild.

Best EU commander.

Grampa from Darkhaven. He’s (mostly) responsible for our comeback against FC/GoM in the closest matchup of the season, and he is w/o a doubt our top commander. He gets stuff done.

Goldiy. It’s not even really a competition. Here’s a guy that spends hours a day, tons of his free time, playing WvW. He’s never left his home server, is friendly and respectful to everyone, even the really, really stupid people that come on our forums and make an kitten out of themselves. We’re talking about someone so beloved that GH got together and gave him a legendary Juggernaut because he spends so much time in WvW, he hasn’t been able to farm it.

In a land where transfers are the rule of thumb, in our minds, it’s not the skill that makes a Commander great, it’s that commander’s tenacity and dedication, and Goldiy has it in spades.

Someone tried to do this once before, and the thread was trolled. Expect the same. no competition who the best militia commanders are in NA. I’m not going to name them, because this thread already ..

Going to throw a name out there that is 100% deserved of this title. The guy runs non stop commanding sometimes up to 10 hour shifts. His guild ALWAYS takes our home BL for reset which they know full well will 100% of the time be a full blown 2 v1 and they typically always hold the N of the map.

He never kittenes or complains about anything. He never really gets flustered even when he has an army of pugs or militia on him. The guy is not only a top notch T1 commander but also a really good person and a great leader. There are a TON of good commanders on BG but Malevolent Omen from OnS and his AoI group stand above the rest to me hands down.

The dedication, effort and heart, that him and his guys show to BG is un parallel and we know as a server that we can count on him and his guys when the doodoo hits the fan.
Mal my man, in my eyes you have earned BGs commander of the year and you did it with class every step of the way.

My vote for Xerkulle (Piken Square).

I could vote for a field commander, the GW2 version of a Rommel or Patton. I’ve seen plenty of good ones.

But to me the best commanders are the ones who work behind the scenes, giving the server the optimal chance at victory, making sure the guilds all pull together and with as little friction as possible. An Eisenhower or Epaminondas type creating the conditions for victory.

To me that person on Blackgate is Choc Pudding.

Real Commanders, delegate task wisely and efficiently to capture many objectives simultaneously with the minimum amount of manpower. Real commanders respect the crew they work with and do not bark orders nor do they claim all the glory for themselves.Real commanders inspire and raise morale.

But in GW2 so far from my perspective,i’ve yet to see anybody who commands respect.
The commanders I’ve met so far are just blue icon on the map,its one big blob of zerg from one point to another. In TPVP terms its like sending 5 person in a 5 v 5 to the home point to cap it,then moving together to another point. So the enemy will always outcap you.
The commanders i’ve seen, will only delegate the menial or non rewarding task to other players whilst they concentrate on the karma train or anything that gives better reward.
The commanders I’ve seen,will be quick to blame pugs or other players when they lose and equally quick to claim credit for themself or their guild for a victory even if pugs help out.
The commanders I’ve seen, will usually use words like"all go to tower to defend it" which is a tactical mistake. Imagine the Tyria army which has its forces in many places in the world,and then someone taps on the guardhouse door at the Orr border,and the commander orders all its forces in all parts of the world to immediately go to the Orr border.Flame legion,kraits,centaurs,svanir will be taking over all the town whilst all the force is at Orr.Smart move.
The commanders I’ve seen, will usually tell the zerg to stack alot of time when they is no apparent need to stack.It slows down the momentum and wastes time.
The commanders I’ve seen,will time to time quote Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” but reciting like a parrot is meaningless if you cannot apply the correct technique for the correct situation at the correct time with the correct manpower.

Even 6 year old kids can be a commander in this game so I don’t expect much in the first place haha!

No, just no. Indo may be the worst commander of the year.

If I can’t nominate anyone from my own guild, then I put my nomination in for Goldiy. He’s online leading the troops no matter what the score is or the condition of the maps. He’s been on EBay since day one and been with us through the good times and the bad. He has a never say die attitude that rubs off on the people around him. His commanding is probably a big reason our server has the Home Defense First motto and he’s quick to respond to calls of help from anywhere on any map when it’s needed. He works well with other commanders on the map, never a know it all, never above taking input or learning a new trick from the rank and file, and is not rude or condescending to new players.

Top notch guy and many in our server owe a lot of their knowledge to playing with him.

Okami Rai from Golden Company XIII, he is both an oceanic and sea commander for SoR. He puts up with quiet a lot in a rough time slot, and keeps an excellent level head about him (99% of the time).

I cannot nominate just one commander, so I’ll just give a thumbs up to all commanders who take the lead in difficult situation, when all seems lost, when noone else would tag…
All those commanders that do their best to make it so their people have a great time despite odds and numbers have my vote.

I’m going to nominate Disco from TC. Purely on the aspect that following him is an absolute RIOT of a good time – no equal when it comes to the absolute fun factor. You will never laugh so much, and he has lots of skill and knowledge, very approachable, and never harsh with even the newest of players.

Close second would be Nightelight (sorry bro, the crappy Mic was the deciding factor :P ) . They are both very much the reason I went and got a tag myself, and decided to join CERN. Never once regretted the decision.

Of the commanders I’ve run with, I really liked Purp Nurp from Choo on Sor. One of the few commanders that is highly skilled yet didn’t have a huge ego about it all.

Also liked Smokee Gee from HB. Excellent situational awareness and decision making when in the heat of battle.

I second Indo as a possible worst commander of the year. Let me rephrase that. Most annoying commander of the year.

Disco from TC for knowing how to have a good time no matter what.

Vapoure (its French :P ) and Ridculy — Ran with both those commanders the most and they were fantastic.

Im going to nominate James from CHOO.

Puts in longer hours than almost every other commander ive seen, including 8+ hours during time periods where we sit outmanned on multiple maps, which he’ll bounce between constantly to assist.
His commanding is always intense, but never (in my experience) abrasive, I dont know how that man manages to not lose his voice.
He’s also quite capable, and willing to lead randoms as long as they stick with him and if possible hop in TS, something other commanders seem to dislike.

Before I knew James, I was dimly aware that triple keeping a T1 enemy BL during their primetime was possible, but I had never been a part of it.

My vote goes to Goldiy. This guy is the total hardcore commander who would lead in any situation in any time he can. Our whole home bl flipped by their night crew? No problem we will take it back! He has the never give up attitude which raises morale for everyone.

He’s got the intuition and skill of a really good commander.Gives the best timing for reinforcement calls and works really well with everyone. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that if you can reach Goldiy, you have contact to all the guilds of Ehmry Bay.

I’ll thow my hat in for Edge of Rage. smart EB comander good at wrangling pugs. Always willing to explain things to new players so they know why there doing something and not just following blindly.

I second this. I’m always in EBG but when it comes to defense in BL, Goldiy is always there for us, and has never left us hanging dry

Ralikh is still, to this date, one of the best commanders I have ever followed. Spot on map coordination, tactic, and level-headed combination throughout all opportunities I was given to follow him on Sea of Sorrows as well as Blackgate.
