Could they have picked worse skins for WvW?
Are you really that surprised? They added new skins and you can have a chance at them if only you’ll buy gems and then pray to the gods you have good RNG. Thankfully the new skins look like kitten anyway.
It’s very disappointing. Like you said, the available skins are the low-level, generic item skins that we could have gotten already by spending a negligible amount of money. On top of that, it seems like we don’t even get access to all of the generic skins. I’m unable to get back into WvW at the moment, but while browsing for medium armor I remember seeing the Warden set, the Duelist set, and one other. I wasn’t expecting cultural armor, nor was I expecting for them to create a bunch of new skins just for us WvW players, but I was definitely hoping that we’d be given more than this. Right now, I’m just guessing that we unlock more skins as we rank up.

Anet have a big number of players in MvM for the past 5 moths waiting for this patch, and now….
Its more cheap buy this skins in AH and use transmutation stones.
Let WvW players spend badges on black lion keys … that is all I would have done. This gives us the ability to use our badges while supporting the gem store.
Really really really really really i mean really dissappointed. I want the arah skin for wvsw (like i’m wearing it in tpvp) but dont want to grind this boring dungeon 20 + times. So i hoped for the dungeon/tpvp Skins being available for badges. But just like ascended gear they somehow dont want to give wvsw players equal equip (ascended gear in terms of stats, rest in Terms of look) to pve players. I think they hate us. Maybe too much crying in this forum?

have you ever considered that the few hundred persons per server at peak times (because, if you didn’t know it, there’s a limit on how many people may wuvwuv at one time) are outnumbered by far by the pve players who have no limitations at all.
You forget that they consider for the most part WvW to be part of pve. Any skins have to be considered for both areas, not just one of them. I have yet to see them but I know they’re good, because allot of level 80 exotic skins stink.

No, as most of the skins(or even all) are also available in tpvp. So you can call them PVP skins as well.There are no unique dungeon skins. The only part of the game excluded from good looking skins is wvsw.

Here is the thing. I would love unique armor skins for wvw. The legions of pve’rs on the other hand would freak out and cry an ocean on the forums. Doesn’t matter if it gave no benefit out of it other then looks they would cry that they are now “forced” to pvp (see map completion and gift of battle crying we already have). My point being why is it ok to give all of the nice things to pve’rs (ascended, dungeon skins, more stat combos even with today’s patch, etc) but not to pvpers (armor skins locked to spvp/limited in wvw, no ascended, etc). It’s a double standerd that was said from the start would not happen in this game.
So either let us have unique skins in wvw and let pve’rs be upset or let wvw players get dungeon skins with the badges they have earned thru countless hours of play.

We got kicked out pretty quick, but very briefly:
- They added Knights, Carrion, Clerics, Berserkers, and Rabid gear 1 gold + badges (180-200ish range)
- Very generic skins ‘Steam’ and ‘Glyphic’ plus one or two others. If i remember correctly they range from from 10-50 badges (they were lack luster so it didn’t hold my interest.)
In my humble opinion, at least it gives us options (limited yes) and it opens the door for more options in the future.

Well I don’t think that the part about most PvErs also joining WvW is necessarily true, but I do get the gist of what you’re saying, and I agree. WvW is a very significant part of the game, and for many players its the only part of the game. But when we compare the player who chooses WvW as their focus to the player who chooses PvE as their focus, the WvW player is always coming up short. The armor skin choice issue is just another example.
A pure WvW player is completely locked out of 8 armor sets (dungeon armor), or 11 armor sets if they haven’t done their personal story. Cultural armor is still available, but making the gold will be a fairly slow process. A pure PVE player is locked out of 1 armor set (Invader skin), on top of being able to acquire the gold for cultural armor at a far, far faster rate than the WvW player. ANET says that players should be able to enjoy the full game regardless of what they’re preferred playstyle is, but the current state of the game along with their actions don’t really reflect that ideology.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the PVE player base is significantly larger than WvW, and I understand that a lot of attention will be going to them as a result, but I really don’t think that it’s asking for much if they can just throw us a bone on this armor skin thing. At this point, I’m just assuming that what we received today is basic groundwork for future additions.

If I were to make an educated guess, they wanted to do more with WvW itemization with this patch, but ran out of time and/or had limited resources to work on it, so they threw some basic existing skins together so players at least had something to go along with the additional stat options. In my view, they don’t want to move dungeon skins to the WvW vendors, because they probably want players to run that content and want those skins to be associated with those dungeons.
Hopefully they task their art guys with some PvP specific skin sets at some point, but with the limited WvW resources Anet seems to have allocated towards this game I don’t see it happening for quite awhile if ever.

It is that bad. I like many others probably just logged off for the day after such a depressing patch. Culling fixed was good but after visiting the wvw vendor and seeing those skins i was like rofl really? No ascended was another downer, my guess is they can’t figure out how to implement it without creating another game currency and there are too many as is for not that old of a game.
Thing is that if you are most bad kitten W3 player you should get coolest gear and best items in the game.

I think people are misunderstanding the reason for why this armour was added and maybe should look more at the positive side of the improvement.
First people QQ that they have to do PvE to obtain the exotics with different stat combinations. So Anet puts in gear with different stat combos that allows you to stay in WvW yet people still QQ. Seriously if people rage quit because they got what they asked for but didn’t get a shiny skin that’s just sad tbh.
Sure new unique skin looks for WvW would be nice but that doesn’t change the fact that this is an improvement. I also highly disagree with putting unique dungeon skins in WvW. Those skins are for the those specific dungeons only. I’m all for more unique skins but current unique skins should stay with the places you obtain them from and should stay unique to that content.
So yes you get crappy basic skins but at least you get the stat combinations you need within WvW itself. Just like everyone I would love to see nicer unique skins for WvW and I’m pretty confident that they will in time but until they can invest resources into making these we at least have access to good gear.
In this patch you’ve received huge improvement in culling, you get different stat options for gear, you get character progression so you have a new purpose within WvW to work on. Maybe focus on all that’s been added and not what has not yet been added.
Things take time to develop especially in a game type that requires careful balancing/testing and there’s only so many resources that can be invested in various things. I sincerely appreciate the improvements we have received this patch and knowing they will continue to work on improving things is great as well just have to be more patient. The game only has been out 7 months and loads of content has been added/improved since launch and they will continue to improve all parts of the game. I really don’t understand the negative attitude whenever improvements are made people act so ridiculously entitled sometimes.
As for ascended gear. Who cares about that unless you are into hardcore gear threadmill fractal grind. Those couple of extra stats aren’t going to make the difference between winning or losing in WvW. If you want more competitive pvp you can do spvp. WvW at the end of the day is just a giant open world free for all, mostly casual pvp zone. Things aren’t controlled nor fair so who cares about about a couple more stats that mean nothing when majority of the time fights are uneven, this isn’t WoW where a couple of extra stats = win.

And again. There are no unique dungeons skins, as all the skins buyable from the dungeon tokens are also available in tpvp. So two of the three big endgame possibilitys (wvsw, dungeons, tpvp) have good looking skins while you look like a jerk if you decide to buy the wvsw skins. So why not just give the wvsw players the skins as well so everybody is happy?

Imagine my surprise when I loaded my 5000 badges into my bags and headed to the vendor. I’d liken it a bit to waking up extra early at age 5 on Christmas morning to open your amazing new presents only to find your parents murdered under the tree. I left with all my badges in the hope this is just the framework for the real stuff to be added later.

Progression is both in stats and in looks. If you want nice things, you still have to do PvE.
And honestly, with the added gold cost a set now runs into ~10g. WvW is not a moneymaker. So besides the badge farm, you also have to spend gold to buy stuff. PvE is still a considerably better option. Not only is it faster, but you EARN gold while doing it instead of having to spend it.
This is hardly a step up from the old system were we could just use the gold to buy gear from the TP. Which was a bad system because it didnt have cool skins, runes and was expensive for a gamestyle that was pulling very few coin. So, what exactly changed?
No. This is not what people wanted. What we got is still a loooooong shot away from PvE. And considering we’ve had to wait this long for it… This isnt some highly complicated mechanic… New gear and vendors are added all the time. This was supposedly the WvW patch. Why do we get such a half done system!?

By all accounts they didn’t really improve anything, they just flipped the switch on culling which was their move to switch on to begin with, and that’s about it as far as performance goes. Everything else seems to be a badges or trading post decision for using different stat combos, I can’t think of any WvW players I know who will care much about unique w3 skins or those new abilities or titles.
I definitely agree that new skins would be nice I never disagreed with that I’m just saying people are overreacting about the armour they added. It’s one step forward in improving things and is one of the MANY things people wanted. I’m pretty sure they will add more unique looks to wvw but probably have limited resources to work on everything people want fixed or added.
And we also don’t know how much work went into making what they did now. It might seem like a simple fix to us but fixing problems in games can be very complex to overhaul entire systems. I’ve only had a glimps into game design and could tell how complex things can get.
There’s plenty of room for improvement across the board just need to accept these things are going to take time to develop and when they do roll out improvements to appreciate them for what they are. I just feel people nowadays are so ‘must have everything right now’ what happened to patience and gratefulness? It’s not like you are tied to a subscription forcing you to play the game.
