Back in a familiar matchup, Underworld has risen up to meet us, Drakkar fallen down. But here we are again.

As expected Drakkar has been pushing heavily during the weekend and has build up a significant lead. Underwold and Gunnars Hold are closely tied for score.

Welcome back lads, lets make it a fun week.

Underworld is last at the moment, but lets hope we can catch up a little bit during the week as it has seem like we do a lot better during monday to friday than on the weekend.

I will not myself have much time to play as I have a lot of projects going on that need to be finished, but I hope you guys enjoy the match a lot, I know I would. Last night was pretty interesting in Underworld, I loved it :P

We finally got enough men to push you guys back in Hills and flipped it over. Seemed like atleast half of Drakkar left the map at that point or earlier. From there we went for Gunnar’s Lake tower that was very heavily guarded, but we had a lot more men so it eventually falled.

After that we had pretty long fights infront of it. But we asked the [GuM] to take the golem back way in to the Bay and start smashing those doors while we kept both of you guys busy near Lake-Briar. After the gates were pretty much down we ran to Bay and took it over in a split second.

I lost my pants during the fighting near Lake tower. So if you saw a pantless commander running around, that was me :P

Drakkar is quite strong during the weekend, for our part, Gunnars hopes to catch up to them during the week. Ofcourse we also need to watch Underworld, being 2nd place means fighting both ;-)

Drakkars Borderlands are upgraded and well defended, we managed to take the camps a lot but they fight like demons for the towers and keeps.

Is looking like a tough match. I dont usually take being “outnumbered” as an excuse but I think a lot of GH players have not been on this weekend.

Hopefully we can push during the week.

Hehe, that was a good fight alright. We were actually planning a portal bomb right to top, but your wall repairing messed that thing up totally. I was not patient enough to wait until you stop repairing the wall so I ordered them to rush in, and thats what happened.

Also we got a situation inside Garrison and without wiping out there we might have lost it as Drakkar was hitting it with 4(?) golems total, but we repelled that.

Thanks for all the nice fights, and maybe on this match-up I can meet this slaughterer you all have been talkin about, heh.

PS. What did Drakkar and RoF like my try outs with portals earlier today in UW borderland? Atleast we stopped a lot of Drakkar sieges with them and a lot of men got a good practice of them. Im pretty proud that we did them and succeed in it

Your fighters did well, they rushed to all the right places and your team had trebbed down quite a bit of our defensive siege, the fight could have gone either way. Untill the very end I wasnt sure which side was going to win.

A lot of other groups never bothered to treb down defensive siege, well done on that. we had to hastily rebuild.

I had a lot of good fights and fun today with you both in our borderland. Lets keep it like that, shall we? And I don’t care if we lose this match-up, as long as I know Underworld and I have given you something to remember.

To be fair, most of the time Gunnars outnumbers Underworld. As their pink commander said, their garrison was also under attack when they tried to take the tower.

Summary of what happened:
3 Golems siege on water gate of Garrison. Around 10+ invaders. 6 Defenders. Just when they broke through, pretty much killed all the defenders in lord room. BOOM, a new build for WvW and we get kicked out. We come back and repair the gates. And Drakkars never came back, only couple of them wandering around the border.

Yeah, we used the advantage, but I do not think anyone else would not have done the same.

After that we pretty much recapped the whole border back with five guys. Some ele was keeping us busy, but we managed her and the guards.

a lot of people couldnt get into the game after the patch yesterday. wouldve been a disadvantage to lose anything during this.

Sorry but I lolled at this comment…Have you seen the score? EB and Drakkar was all yours last night. You know what a disadvantage is not having more then 5 people on on all borderlands when the enemy has a zerg steamiing the borderlands.

I sympathise with your pain. It must truly be an awful trial to have an endless munchkin zerg and night-capping team on call only 50% of the time. Primarily due to work, I’ve not been fighting in this match-up yet. Hopefully going to make up for some of that as the week goes on. Looking forward to seeing both enemy servers on the battlefield

It’s 10~15 from DSun, and you guys are doing amazing job holding your map, but you also have 1~3 people from several other guilds, summing up to quite a crowd. I really enjoyed the fight for Vale with you on Sunday evening, some crazy ballista positioning from both sides, and while we held the camp for a longer while, at some point we simply got outmanned (with the ‘buff’, too).
I understand your position, though – not enough numbers and timezone coverage for the next tier, but much more than enough of both for this one. After all it’s more about the timezones coverage – we may have more numbers at some point, but then nearly everyone goes off to bed for work in the morning, and we have pretty much no one from 4am onwards until people are back from work.

Anyway, thanks for some back-and-forth fights and a threeway at Ogrewatch in EB yesterday o/

the timezone is indeed a problem. I’d prefer a stable amount of players on all three servers. different primetimes are annoying .. but nothing you can do bout it. lets see what the february patch is going to get us through..

Sadly, you 15DL vs 30GH you mention must be in your wet dreams, because every time I face your groups the picture looks very different to me, but them maybe Underworld can confirm your views too.

had some fun with DSun at the DL spawn yesterday – im sure you remember the warrior with the hammer unforunately legendary defenders got more kills than me, but i put enough of you guys to the ground to feel like a champ nice luring me to green lake and band-jumping me out from cloak, i had to learn that the hard way lol. props to the wolf guild thief – we met before when i had my greatsword. lets taste some grass together again another time.

Yes, that sounds familair, would be nice if people were just as dedicated with joining WvW when they are needed the most, not when its easiest.

Keep up the good fight, Though I doubt youll ever face the full force of Gunnars on any map save our own. and that only during primetime. Expeditionary forces into your borderlands always meet with heavy resistance.

Alexinho, I’m so glad that at least someone took my comments in the manner in which they were intended

We are pretty “aware” of the challenges that we face as a realm, in terms of numbers and brackets, pros and cons of moving – we talk about it and as people wiser than I demonstrate (Nidhogg, Roo, etc) we understand and appreciate what’s happening.

This also extends to trying to gain an understanding of our opponents – we aren’t blessed with the numbers or coverage that DL have, for example, which is why it’s funny to hear someone complain about having the means to easily steamroll one bracket, which promotes them. That impetus can’t then be maintained in the bracket above, so they get demoted. It’s akin to what Piken Square were complaining about several weeks ago when they faced us – massively superior numbers and coverage, yet they never stopped griping about queues, because they were too popular! The irony, it burns!

I am reminded of the line from Chandler in Friends, mocking Ross when he is afflicted with the choice between two women:
“Two women love me. They’re both gorgeous and sexy. My wallet’s too small for my fifties, and my diamond shoes are too tight!”

We shall no doubt see you on the battlefield. Well, culling permitting, naturally.

I do have one but the way its meant to be played doesnt suits me. I need to feel the oponnent rawr.. ranged classes are not my shoe.

I dont wanna flame anyone, im just keeping up my morale. I know higher Brackets blow us away, though we couldve kept up with abbadon (germany server) we cud not against gandara.. we’ve been going sleep as their primestime started.

anyway, we are growing and experience more things each day. you can only learn from better players.. this has allways been our key to succeed. we learned a lot past weeks and i dont think we’re stopping here.

What I see from DL is what also happens In Aurora, Too strong for this tier, too weak for the next, and in a way, the ones promoted from below have similar issues, though not as exaggerated. Its clear from the ranking scores in between this two tier, the differences in score are much bigger than the tiers above.

its a whooping 120 points from 1st to 3rd, you can see other tiers are closer. And seems the trend is to widen even further in this tier.

Compliments to Underworld, you seem to have a lot more people since our last match up, you now outnumber us more often then not. Where did you find these people?

Tis the typical matchup wherein the 2 underdog servers should coop against the overpopulated one, much like it happened back in Daoc with Hibernia and Midgard banging on Albion large numbers :p

With the promotion/demotion mechanic, the three parties involved are incentivised to “play the points game”, rather than engage in a little “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. (My DaoC days are many, many years ago – did RvR have anything similar with level brackets for realms? I don’t recall it, but then I often struggle to remember my name these days)

There wasn’t anything similar in Daoc, the 3 way Realm vs Realm was confined to each server.
I understand your point of course about what’s happening right now but in long terms it doesnt really pay off in my opinion
The actual dynamic just keeps bouncing up and down 1st and 3rd between Tiers.

Completely agree, you’re absolutely right that it doesn’t pay off – but it’s the system which we’re stuck with

I wouldn’t like to hazard an amateur psychiatry guess about whether the morale damage is greater for a realm that stays put for an extended period, or for one which is on a constant rollercoaster of either cruising to victory or crashing and burning, yo-yoing between brackets.

Thanks for confirming on the DaoC RvR – I had a feeling it was server-based, but my time there was long ago. I’m sure that it had it’s own set of challenges and obstacles posed by that system too – but long-term dominance by one side could and would be combatted by the other two joining forces. The GW2 system doesn’t lend itself to such a tactic – probably deliberately – as we have the artificial confines of week-long matches and bracket promotion/demotion.

The issues we are having on underworld is that we are a high pop server so people cant move here, but we have a huge amount of inactive accounts and people who never go to WvW

There needs to be more benefit for people to do WvW or its not going to happen on these lower tier servers :/

Well I don’t want to sound conspiritorial or anything, but is there an agreement between DL and UW?
The last 3 days the DL zerg has battered our homelands having capped the whole BL at least 3 times today. This is fine and I more than accept a server with greater numbers as DL will win, but here’s the thing. The score difference between GH and UW is minimal compared to DL’s score. Yet DL has not invaded the UW borderland at all during the quieter hours. I only see them invade when there really is nothing left to take, even then they soon leave UW alone and come back for GH. Even to the point of trying to camp all the GH spawns on ALL maps.

Again I also know the man in second place is the beating boy, as both people want to beat you. But the score difference between us and UW is tiny… This again makes me think you have a little agreement going on between some of the bigger guilds.

Sometimes when everything seems to go as bad as possible etc., etc., one might start to think about stuff like that to get some reasoning behind it. But no, we have made no pact with the devil.

Drakkar is hitting our border often with masses of people, I suppose we can scratch up people up to defend it and sometimes it goes well and we only lose south towers or only one keep, then sometimes it goes really bad and we pretty much lose everything.

But like everytime, it looks like Drakkar just vanishes right after it has done what they came there to do, so it is pretty much free running around the border to capture back the lost points. Around ten or so invaders might stay behind, but at that time we usually already have over thirty person zergs moving on the battlefield to sweep the map back red.

And I suppose Drakkar sees you guys a more of a threat than us so they keep hitting you more than us, who knows. But there is no pact or deal or alliance or anything.

I’m really enjoying being gang-banged… yes, really!

Had great fun at Vale on DL BL tonight you finally got in, but we didn’t make it easy.

As far as I can tell there is no alliance between our two enemies, Drakkar is just as likely to attack Underworld as they are us, it just that they often choose to go through us first and being stubborn kittens we try to stop them.

Then we post a bit on Forums with some banter between Drakkar and Gunnars, cant blame them then for coming to pay us a visit. There are certain people on our server who just cant seem to resist pulling the tigers tail.

Drakkar, been fun tonight but I will not be so active in WvW tommorow, PvE night with the guild and the finger I use to press ‘F to loot’ has some cramps ;-)

How does Thursday sound to you?

And about gang-bangin; You two Gunnars and Drakkars have attacked our BL’s both keeps at pretty much at the same time, so we should be shouting about the alliance!

Just kidding, most likely either of you guys have had scouts around and when you have seen that we are having a huge fighting going on other keep you rush into the other, basic tactics.

You can take our towers and keeps, but you aint taking our spirit to fight. For Pink and Glory!
