Why isn’t stuff that’s in ‘beta’ thrown into EotM only? People still play it, but nobody cares. It gives the community a chance to jump into EotM, test it, and go back to their normal, flawed game-mode.
EoTM wouldn’t give them any real feedback from dedicated WvW players. Most of us don’t go into EoTM ever since it really is NOT a true representation of WvW at all. Just some bunches of people yelling at each other in a toxic zero structure environment… ok that part is close to WvW a lot of the time.. lolol…

I can be fine if anet decides to have these polls to show you care of, but not use them to drop the responsability to the WvW community about the changes. 1000 players will never take a designer’s decision, because they aren’t and they will never be even if their number grows!

Come on, I don’t play pvp and still I can vote the current pvp related poll.
There’re many other ways to show you care of WvW but putting the cannons in the current state, a prototype of the previous WvW siege state (no cd, no condi/crit dmg on them, no cap), show me lack of effort, the opposite of anet intent.
I actually like it that there is no decay timer, as it´s a major pain in the kitten to click through all that sieges if they are about to despawn
at least they should have exclamation marks over them at 10 min and map wide pings at 5 min

Or nerf the hell outta it ASAP. Even a “panic nerf” on them would work, since it gives time to figure out the middle ground.

The current implementation of this is pretty terrible imo.
Perhaps if they’d been modeled a bit more after mid 18th century cannons which were heavy, expensive, wildly inaccurate and took forever to reload, I could see a case for them.
As it stands WvW really didn’t need more siege. At this rate it will soon just be an MMO version of Angry Birds.

They’re already strong enough. Can hit through gates, does some big damage to siege, can hit up to 50 targets, has no timer, can’t be crit or hit with conditions, and IS NOT EFFECTED BY SIEGE CAP LIMITS. It’s so utterly broken that the answer will be “NO!” from anybody you ask.

Something tells me the people on these forums would vote for a certain presidential candidate for the same effect.
The issue with the voting is that anyone can vote. People never playing wvw votes, people joining maybe half an hour a week vote, bu none of those are here to see the impact of it. They are not the players that logs in every day and stay for hours. Those players mostly have a very different opinion, but we can not do anything about the open voting system, were anyone and their gold fish have a say. This is the issue. I said it before. If thee was a vote for PvE raids, would it be ok if people never raiding could vote and settle what players raiding every week need for raids?
Oh my god stop blaming it on all the casual players already. I voted for them. Okay? And do you know why I voted for them? Because I wanted to see if they can be a nice addition to the game and because I thought that Anet would have at least tested the most basic features like decay timer and siege cap.
As we can see that was already too much, but only because Anet is incapable of delivering something only the slightest related to peoples expectations doesn’t mean that nobody liked the basic idea.Do you want to blame me for a broken WvW because I liked the idea of getting some more variety into my favourite gamemode or could you also imagine blaming the developer that actually kittened this up?

Like with the dessert maps, there was a few wvw players voting for that too, but as you can see they were very few, and are hard to find when their server have dbl.
The voting system is not working, and if it was working there would not be any cannons to start with. Telling A-Net how to fix the cannons is useless because it will be gone when beta is over and not coming back.
If there was a thing that really was something that wvw players needed and wanted then the forum would be full of ideas how to fix it instead of disappointment.

GW2 is a game that was clearly focused and well conceived on release. Then, once the game was released, it’s like a different company took over and started to do random things, breaking things that work well (old trait system, condi cap, dungeons difficulty), making content that people would only see for a limited amount of time, and implementing things that aren’t needed (siege disabler) instead of improving what works (combat system).
The only thing that has been truly consistent is the quality of the graphic work by the artists. They clearly have a team making new maps (DBL) but what is the core WvW team of programmers doing? Is there even such a team? Where is the WvW overhaul?

Yeah I often have that conversation with a friend in regards to the game, I mean hell they even canned the dungeon team after release, so who knows who else they let go. Yay the dungeon team is gone we can go do fractals instead!
The game and it’s direction sure is a lot different than it was four years ago, as any game would be, just the direction they took content and combat is off course to where I was expecting it to be.

These deployable cannons are very very bad for wvw. I can’t even call them broken because that would imply they could be fixed and useful.
People voted yes for cannons to troll anet.
These deployable cannons don’t do anything good, useful, or fair.
With no siege cap, siege timer on them and etc they are being used overly so and ruining wvw.
A server can build a crap ton of cannons and most people can’t take their stuff or come close to doing any damage. Or a server can put a bunch of cannons in an area and farm players with 1 shot ( if it’s many cannons at once doing the 1 shot).
Everyone is treating these cannons like it is a joke because no offense it is.
If these cannons don’t go away literally this will kill wvw more than it has been done in a long time.
So if a cannon vote comes up please don’t troll it again.
Cost half of what trebs do to build and fire 5x faster. Completely changes the balance of the game.

A little experimentation is ok. What is not ok is continuing with an experiment that is obviously an unmitigated disaster.

No… I voted Yes to actually test them. The actual Trolls here are Arena Net for delivering a bugged piece of siege that ignore decay timers and siege cap while still acting like old objects as not being affected by critical hits and conditions. I really doubt the situation would be this bad if the cannons followed the same rule as regular siege.

So I know we have cannons on third floor smc, but if I place a deployable cannon, would i be able to hit enemies coming out of there keep? The range seems like it would reach.
Nah… The deployable cannons have the exact same range as the regular cannons from what I could see.

we’ve tried the cannons they are ruin fights, hopefully they can be removed before too much of the population gives up on WvW.
If you want to beta anything try disabling all deployable siege except for flame rams & catapults. You’d see more active play I suspect.

Just a mention that the programmers are totally unrelated to what content gets released. They just make engine features.
It’s the designers or the people above them that are proving a total lack of value. ANet’s programmers are actually probably some of the best in the industry and have done an amazing job so far with the game.

All of the issues I have with them are already covered by the previous posters. There really needs to be more testing before tossing these implemented ideas out into the live world. Without adequate testing to improve the implementation, what could have been a fun addition is now just another way to troll with a new exploit toy.
The WvW player response in the deployable cannons survey thread was mostly ‘no!’

This leads me to conclude that the actual survey results were indeed trolled by non-WvWers where were torqued about the changes to the Gift of Battle acquisition.
The notable thing about this screen capture (for me anyway)… is that there are no attackers anywhere in view.

I actually find that the cannons could be interesting, but the siege (anti-personnel) we have now have no identity, or not enough of one. Arrow carts control large areas, ballistas kinda kill people in a line (but not very well really), and cannons do both (but is direct fire of course).
Obviously the cannon being 50 supply is a huge error, as at that cost it all but voids out superior ballista in terms of usability (even if its direct damage is lower, its ease of use is far higher). Plus it hits 50 targets with 0 effort, while the ballista only hits people in a line (or a cone at a short range). Like, why use a ballista, to destroy siege? OH WAIT, cannon 1 has an anti siege bonus to it.

We need to give the siege identities and then cannons should fit in just fine (also a cost adjustment). Boost arrow carts ability to do area denial/control (slightly more damage, more soft cc BUT OVER TIME ONLY, maybe over 10-12 hits, more cripple, maybe some weakness). Boost ballista damage to people caught in their direct fire, i mean you have to line people up with the dang things, these should be your primary anti-personnel weaponry at range for cost efficiency. Cannons would be generalized with burst damage in a large radius, but expensive. Also buff gravel shot on catapults to be an anti-personnel option (it arcs, so it is good for defensive spots), cause seriously: 3 tiny rocks that shoot over a HUGE random spread is really terrible. Like why!? Give it like 10 rocks, rain on the enemies parade, or make them tumble like shield gen 1. SOMETHING. Plus, if someone tries to use a catapult like that, you can rush em in between shots, unlike arrow carts, so it isnt really a balance issue.

I specifically remembe voting for NO one deployable cannons… It was talked about but wasn’t added and no one wanted them then and WE still dont want them NOW. What the heck is the point of a voting poll asking for our opinions when YOU DON’T EVEN LISTEN TO THE PLAYERS VOTING. i remember seeing about 70% saying players didn’t want cannons. maybe i’m wrong but the majority said NO cannons. They aren’t even updated to the point where they can be crit and condi applied like other siege… STOP BEING LAZY ARENA NET. NO one wants your crappy WvW re-hauls.. Stop forcing it on us.

The first poll on cannons only required a majority vote to allow them to be tried out in a live beta test, it won out with 56%. There will be a followup poll to see if the cannons should be disabled permanentely or allowed to stay as permanent feature. That poll should require a 75% super majority to allow it to stay.

The original WvW developers probably had good reasons to never implement cannon blueprints, mortar blueprintss and repair hammers.
