You don’t have to pve to get ascended weapons (unless you’re actually counting crafting as pve, or killing supervisors/lords as pve). You just have to be a very patient masochist. All of the mats can drop from WvW (although everything except the empyreal fragments will take much longer), and you can buy the other stuff (including the 500 crafting) with all of that glorious 90% less money than you’d have made if you had done pve instead.

Ascended backpieces are the only thing you physically can not get, period, without pve. The other pieces are just a lot easier and/or faster to get from pve, they’re at least possible to get from wvw.

i can understand pve for skins – but not for stats. – wvw isn’t just end game – to some of us it IS the game – for arguments sake, guildwars 2 is 2 games – a pve game and a pvp game. thats what I thought was the whole idea of – If you like mmorpgs you will love guildwars2 , if you DON’T like mmorpgs you’ll love guildwars 2. – insisting a pver or a pvpr do something other than pvp or pve for stats goes against this philosophy.

Ever since I can remember -and I’ve been playing mmo pvp since it was only available in dos – high damage builds are the preferred choice in pvp – and they don’t work in pve – The skill was developed in avoiding taking damage, proper positioning, timing and having the ability to spike your opponent, solo or with a team. Insisting pve goes against the grain of this very core concept of pvp and the chess aspect of pvp. – especially since all the dungeons are instakill without the right amount of defense. Otherwise the pvp fights are inefficient and last way too long with low damage and high defense. The logistics to the ascended items are not correct if they are to be included in wvw. a pvp based area of the game.

Dodging a bullet is what makes a skilled pvpr – not having a bullet bounce off his chest from armor. spells, tactics and timing are the pvprs armor.

Friend of mine got a “Leftpaw’s Weapon Chest” in a WvW Rank-Up chest, where he could choose 1 ascended weapon with settler’s stats.
Sure you gotta be lucky as hell, even more if you want the ascended weapon with the right stats. But there are ascended weapons in WvW aswell.

key ingredients to all those recipes are a pve grind.

the idea to get us to play different parts of the game, is to let us play in the area that we want to play – till we want to explore another area for a change – not force us to stop to be up to spec.

it feels like we have to play 100 games of old maid before we can get a decent game of poker.

You have to grind, that is the total opposite of anets philosophy in the beginning. I still remember them saying, we do not like grind… Yeah right….

Doing fractals is just for the ascended backpiece.

You can get exotic items from the temples, if you’ve been doing WvW you’ll have more than enough karma, you just have to run to Orr.

the problem imo with the game is that it’s built on what I called a “Perfect world scenario” where everyone gets along, likes playing the same way, logs on at the same time and wants to go to the same place – nothing can be further from the truth and if you wish to verify my theory – make Orr an open pvp area. It’s impossible to be a casual player and log on for 2-3 hours and experience all areas and items of the game. It’s near impossible to get a dungeon team that want’s to do a dungeon like a regular play – everyone wants to speed run. People don’t like to play by a standard and this “Perfect world” design is flawed in a huge way…..then to give it leagues in a pvp realm that stats are very important ? lol

I’ll just have to wait till anet fixes it …or die trying solo …or maybe if I’m lucky – find a nice friendly team – and to my servers credit …we have them!! They are just not on all the time. Hopefully this thread will have made this issue apparent.

The pve content in the game is great – but getting to it is not fun at all, nor am I interested in doing the same dungeons 50x times over and over again simply to get what I need to do what I enjoy most, wvw.

please stop instigating – this is a legitimate issue – I had to stop wvw last night to figure out what to do with 1500 bloodstone items. I didn’t want to stop wvw and I want an ascended item for it’s specs ….not for it’s looks because it doesn’t look so hot.

And what this highlights is that 95% of the time, you’ll only see Lyssa (Magi) and Dwayna (Rabid) open on any servers. The next most common is Balthazar (Cavalier), and it is pretty rare. When I log in I generally check as I’ve been looking for Melandru and Grenth to be open somewhere, and it’s been weeks that I’ve checked at the time I play and I’ve yet to see them open.

It was an easy means to obtain exotic armor, but it no longer is a reliable one. My general go to link for outfitting an 80 with karma has been here:

As far as backpacks, as a WvW player with no dungeon/fractal interest at all, it is something I accepted as not having beyond Rare, and definitely not at Ascended. The problem will come as more and more Ascended items come into the game.

it’s not necessarily 5 hours of work. i’ve had many friends who had to grind well in excess of 10 fractals. some of us hate that garbage, and I refuse to do crap I hate in the hope that something I must have MIGHT drop. guarantee me a drop on the 5th, and I would do it.

it’s apparent for wvw to really flourish – a bigger separation from pve is necessary – as an old school pvp’r – I do enjoy dungeons – they are a fun adventure, something to enjoy and discover 1nce or 2wice – not haunt till i have more loot than I can handle. I’d rather grind for skill in pvp / wvw. Skins belong to pve – because that’s ultimately what they grind for …or at least should be grinding for – Stats belong to PVP because player skills is what we grind for, and should not be distracted. Skins in PVP just shows that we like pve also…not make a pve’r better equipped because they can’t pvp.

It isn’t my right, it is the developers right. Most people don’t hate them like you do. You are in the very vocal minority. If you have a problem with back pieces, have an issue with the fact that they cost 60 gold to make. The vial is a non-issue.

I think if Anet made the requirements of the WVW version ascended backpacks and items to be based on rank – ie – to get x item – you need to be level 50+ in wvw ….this will prevent the pve looters from exploiting it and leaving it to dedicated wvw’rs.

Let’s not forget the good ole times when there would be 50 posts a week on why wvw is map completion, or why do they have to grind for BoH. Anet fixed those quite fast in comparison to the broken things in wvw and they still come on wvw forums and basically say their game mode is superior it’s not the fact we have to grind or save/spend money. It’s the fact that we have to grind the part of the game we dislike, just like many pve players hate wvw. We don’t care if you do and you shouldn’t care that we have pve, but stop thinking that everything must be done in pve when there’s no reason for it to be. I would much rather grind 500 hours of wvw where I’m having fun and enjoying my time, then spend 10 hours hating my time on the game for doing contnt I dislike. Much like you guys with map completion and BoH for you before.

the only reason this thread isnt buried on the 2nd page is because of the argument you have going on. you are being told constantly to man up and all you can manage to do is whine more and refuse to check websites once in a while or go spend a little time outside of wvw.
