I would actually like to know this too. A lot of ‘unofficial’ color codes regarding CMD tags have been suggested.

How about people provide something like this:

Server: Fort Aspenwood
Blue (traditional): PUG/anyone welcome
Red: Havok
Yellow: Guild group
Purple: a tag only a mother would love

This is just an example.

I was similarly thinking something like that should be “unofficially” implemented

Purple could be a scout call tag. Pretty much saying “this area is under attack and I need help to hold it”

To answer the op, no, they don’t. Nobody has ever established or decided on how they should work across the board. The only thing that I’ve seen that seems to be universally agreed upon in most servers is that a blue tag on any map is generally considered the “primary” tag, or the pugmander tag.

You should probably ask that question in your server’s internal forum, blue tag will be always pug commander/open raid but other than that, every server might have slightly different color coding.

They have a very special meaning.

That the community can stand up as one and say “wtf Anet are you kittening kidding us with this kittenty kitten implementation of a critical commander organization function we have wanted since kittening release that you are going to place behind a greedy kitten repulsive paywall for no kittening purpose” and actually change a developers mind on something?

Oh and they got pretty colors too, whatever.

Original consensus from reddit :

- Blue : Main Bus/Zerg/Blob. Sometimes used to difetrentiate melee from ranged.
- Red : Snipers/Roamers/Havoc. Sometimes used to differentiate ranged from melee.
- Yellow : Guild Raids. PUGs please respect and do not join.
- Purple : Scouts. Commanders please listen and tip.

Servers also have their own codes. but possible sigifications variates rarely.

Since I’ve never heard of any of that, and none of that applies to my server (except for the blue tag), and many of the streamers I watch from other servers also aren’t aware of this mysterious consensus, I’m going to have to say “variates rarely” — variates ain’t a word btw — is absolute garbage.

My post can simply be proved correct if you widden your narrow way of thinking by simply reading previous posts. I do not even think about making you check reddit and tolerate minor barbarisms as you seems to think streamers are both the representative and well aware part of the community.

There is only one correct answer – ask your own server how they use the tags….

Even then you may find variations with each commanders, purple tags on YB for example are usually guild, but some are open, some are closed, and some are after raid pugmanders that don’t switch to blue……

YB→YB→YB→YB→YB→YB→YB→most likely YB

I was just playing the game minding my own business. There were a couple of them, and one kicked me as I was finishing up a quest involving attacking flame legion attacking a fort or base. Me being ‘kicked’ didn’t seem to make a difference though. So, I really don’t understand what all that was about.

This sounds like some great reading! How does one mind their own business if they get kicked from something? Don’t you have to be part of someone’s business in order to be kicked from it?

The only general consensus is that blue is the main map pin as it always was. I’m hoping they add another couple of colors soon though.

As stated above, they mean something different for each server. It also matters on what is going on exactly as well and where you are. In edge of the mists, i tend to see the main tag being corresponding to what side they are on and any secondary tags being the side they are focusing.

Example:
FA = Green (atm)
Main tag = Green
Alt 1 = Red, focusing red side
Alt 2 = Blue, focusing blue side
other tags = randoms

main wvw, varies to often, best place to ask would be your communities website or team speak 3.

PvE is generally objective based, such as 3 Headed wurm, the tags usually correspond with what Wurm.

well, on SFR they mean:

Blue: Main group/zerg, all welcome
Red: mostly small roaming group guild/open for people
Yellow: Scouts
Purple: Guild raid, mostly closed for others

In prime time guilds do “GuildvsGuild”

If their guild is well organized and wants more “visual info” they run with more then just purple tag.
Their leader has Purple, elementalist party usually runs with Yellow tag, while necro party runs with Red. Incase you see those perticulary tags close to each other. You know now what it means

Don’t even worry about the colours. If there’s a commander around, just head over and tag along. If it’s a closed raid, who cares? just play with them and have fun. I’ve never gotten any flak from any commander for hanging out with their closed raid, even as an uplevel. If a commander if running a closed raid and doesn’t want you around, don’t worry there’s plenty of other commanders roaming around wvw.

Most servers that have a serious enough WvW community have given them meaning for their own server as others have mentioned. It helps organize groups on the map and lets people know at a glance whats going on. havok over there, main group/zerg over there/defensive teams there and there. You get the idea.

Far Shiverpeaks goes by the convention:

Blue: open/pug raid
Yellow: guild raid, likely closed
Red: scout tag
Purple: whatever might require a diff color at the moment

occasionally guild might use more than one tag to keep track of their own sub-groups during a fight, most ocmmon is having the sniper party leader tagged red/purple.
