Does WvW feel fresh or stale to you?
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.
My answer is stale. I’ve played with some fighting guilds and I’ve also played for PPT and there’s no variety from week to week. Matchups stay the same, siege placement spots stay the same, fights always play out the same way even if the specific location or the nuances are different. EotM turned into a pve zone and no organized groups go there so it turned into a sideshow instead of a main event. WvW season brought some pvers in but that didn’t add variety and now they’ve left. Not really sure that WvW needs to get me interested in playing again.

I don’t really think there’s much more to say than what’s been said in a thousand threads in the last year. No meaningful updates whatsoever, there’s nothing to do except running around like idiots capping points after points for numbers on a screen that don’t matter a little bit.
It just doesn’t feel like a “WAR”. It doesn’t feel like i’m fighting another realm. It doesn’t feel like i’m doing something epic when i do whatever. Maybe if there was a feeling of conquering territories i’d get more feeling of usefulness.
Does anyone remember Lineage2 sieges? I mean conquering a keep was something. Here i see the great, majestic stonemist castle coming and going 20 times a day. Most of the times noone’s defending it and after your take it you just walk away and have no reason to even go back in.
I mean if i conquer a bloody castle i want to feel like i conquered a bloody castle. Now it’s like “k. we got it. what now? oh look an enemy doliak”
Thank god there’s so many doliaks to hunt at least i have a purpose in my playing this game. And just how sad is that
Quite stale.
For me, The only thing that keeps me playing the game is my guild, and helping to train new people in Wubwub ways.
I think that map diversity is what we need, what we want. Here was my big idea on that front.

next thing I’m developing which comes with this is a plan to hook WvW into the LS, similar to how the EotM release was a part of the evolving story, even if it hasn’t seen a blink of development (story, bugs, map design) since.
The way I figure, and looking back at how Anet has put “sweeping change” into the the game, (like the destruction of Lions Arch) any opportunity to get real devpower to focus on WvW will require it to be a part of the expanding Living Story.
more details soon.
ideally a game mode like wvw doesn’t need to feel ‘fresh,’ it’s player driven content that doesn’t need constant updates to keep people entertained.
the problem is wvw has had some fundamental issues that have never been addressed, and many people have gotten tired of them.
TWO YEARS!
Need I say more?
And Hamster, we asked for that over a year ago as well! We got EOTM instead.
As someone said earlier, one of the reasons that person cough cough was necroing those red posts was because newer WvW players who’ve only been around a little while were posting ideas which were posted by us 1-2 years ago! They said it is something they want to so, but working around the coding would take time. Time has passed and all we’ve see are newer players posting old ideas on how to improve WvW

I find it somewhat stale yet still fresh enough as long as my Server continues to strive and my Guild progresses. (we’ve had to start from scratch). As for the game itself I love the combat system despite the balance issues and my Thief; even after all the nerfs.
Last year I didn’t really enjoy WvW as much as I wanted, now I can despite the issues it has.

The whole game feels stale. Including LS (stories seem predictable.) No expansions, no new races, no new professions, no new zones, no new maps.
WvW is the last bastion of hope given that it is supposed to be “unpredictable”. Except we are all playing against the same servers, on the same maps, using the same strategies, with predictable outcomes.
/insert definition of “insanity” here
Raph Koster said it best in his book about gaming: fun is learning to overcome challenge.
Nothing new to learn. No new challenges. Except learning to deal with the challenge of what feels like stale gameplay.
Appreciate the thought behind the thread; not sure the thread will survive out here.
PS: Would love to be surprised by ANet and have my entire post proven wrong.

They haven’t released a new map in over a year. The last two maps were both horrible. It feels like ANET has run out of ideas.
Oh, and the fact that after 2 years, they still haven’t learned a good balanced methodology. Hint: Releasing massive class changes every 3-6 months is dumb. Modify skills as needed. Maybe follow a game that actually has achieved an esport such as LoL and watch how they balance.
stale… I am running out the clock until something better comes along.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
I think it depends on how, and who, you play with. I still have loads of fun in wvw.. and love exploring to find new siege spots. Small group roaming is usually more satisfying.
Just modify the current borderland maps! Change the design of the objectives. We’ll all be entertained for awhile at trying to figure out new ways to siege and counter-siege.

Give me GvG or die trying. Such a great potential wasted. I hate to see all the hardcore WAR based guilds leave the game due to the lack of competitive WvW.
GvG is NOT coming!

Awuh. I’m sad to say I had to vote that it is stale as is. I find ways to make WvW fun…but, yeh.

In your current match up it’s to be expected, not really impressed with the quality of fights in EoTM sadly.

Well if that does not send a clear message to Anet, not sure what will.
WvW thou is still my favourite game mode in GW2. But its not surprising its viewed as stale when it rarely, if ever gets any updates.
Can you imagine, how good WvW, PvP, dungeons, fractals and normal open world PvE would be by now, if Anet had put the same effort into those as they do with Living Story.
I know if they had concentrated there efforts into WvW, PvP dungeons, fractals and normal open world PvE and scrapped Living Story, there would be far, far more players playing GW2. Which would have mean’t more income for Anet via gem sales.

Hey that is T2. If T2 feels empty …
Stale… very very stale… and boring… and server population imbalance has been frustrating since release… A few fixes… Server merges for Lower WvW communities… They have the numbers, they can figure it out! Another thing, new stuff, or more frequent balance patches… Like 1 or 2 professions at a time…

Not a newbie,this was probably lordkrall .
Stale. Engineer still considered useless in WvW, it’s still blob vs blob, playing against stacked servers is still pointless. Same old same.
voting Stale , dev’s on forum might have voted fresh, well because every Friday everything goes back to zero .

Maybe they find it interesting to get an idea why their wow player base is shrinking
And it is: EU-T2 has not even half as many player now, than 1 year ago.

They know that for around 1.5 year of people complaining in the forum about wvw and wanting to see new things. It aint gonna happen,im really not optimistic anymore when it comes to anet and wvw,hell..i barely still even go there…been weeks for me.
Stale. My entire guild has left the game, essentially because the balance updates are too few and far between, the LS is the same rehashed content, and WvW has only gotten more unstable at lower tiers and blobby at higher tiers.
I get that it takes time to develop stuff and implement changes, I really do. But there’s only so long you can ask us to trust you that you’re working on cool stuff, when for over a year you’ve been saying that and people are still asking for the same QoL changes. A little more communication and more frequent balancing to all aspects of PvP (sPvP, WvW) would go a really long way to restoring some of that faith.
Seriously though, the main reason I’m still here is because I can’t afford the other MMO’s my friends are playing atm. When my new job starts, or when archeage comes out properly, we’ll see.
ANet – Please feel free to prove me wrong and introduce some awesome changes for WvW and class balance (like those new weapons we’ve been hearing about since forever). Seriously, do it. But be warned that if the best you have is a couple new masteries and another pointless armour skin tonic, you WILL lose players. Hell, you already have.

Coming from Tier 1, yes the lower Tiers are no longer quite the safe ‘haven’ for everyone, you still find Guilds down there though fighting during prime, but others have been moving up to find a challenge of some sort and more off peak fights.
Calling higher tiers blobby though is wrong, it simply is more active. Nobody forces you to blob; not everyone blobs either, it also depends on the Servers you are up against and what hours you get to play really.
If you aren’t running with a Guild then you are probably missing out on the social element, also if you don’t like Zerging you can find some Guildies to roam with, or run with a group running with numbers that isn’t blobby.

I don’t think your missing out on much with what’s on offer atm, we’ll see though hopefully Anet pulls out their finger.

The players aren’t happy, but it’s also the summer; even my Guild is (And will be) less active than usual. It’s time they merged some Servers or find a way to balance populations..

It’s not just WvW, it’s the entire freaking game lol
It’s gotten terribly stale now… nothing really game-changing or fun has been added
LS2 is an abysmal joke, I don’t play an MMO just to play a cheesy story chapter for a few hours every 2 weeks… theres already plenty of open world events, last thing i want to see is even more zerg fested events like you see in the new zones so far…
GW2 is definetly getting stale overall but much more stale in WvW/sPvP side of things… cause anet doesn’t care at all about it…. that’s why freaking runescape has a bigger concurrent playerbase than GW2 does (NA+EU only)…
when you completely throw aside 2.5/3 of the big 3 (PvP,WvW, PvE), then this is what your result is going to be… a stale game. Nothing new on the fracs/dung side for PvE and ABSOLUTELY nothing going good on the sPvP/WvW side…stale game is stale
@CrimsonNeonite:
You’re very right actually, blobby was the wrong word. I originally came from Whiteside Ridge, so being propelled to T2 with Gandara was quite a shift. That being said, I’d sooner be chased by 10+ people looking for the easy lootbag (which often seems to happen to me) than be alone in a borderland for hours on end.
I do miss the social aspect of my old guild, but honestly I’m not sure I care enough to invest in getting involved with a new one at this point. Don’t take that as an insult or an argument against guilds, it’s just how I feel about the game as a whole really.

I don’t play WvW very much at all so even for me it is probably the most fresh, aside from PvP. If all you do is play one game mode then yes it will get boring. It becomes monotonous, almost like a job and you begin to wonder why it is you’re doing it at all (because it certainly doesn’t pay the bills and isn’t fun anymore). I felt that way as well about 6-7 months ago with the game in general, quit for a few months and got back on only to quit again until 3 days ago. It’s fresh for me again, traits have changed, maybe not for the better though…
I do wish that WvW would get a refresh: new maps, new things to conquer, new rules to change strategies that people do like second nature. This would level the playing field some by closing the ignorance gap and maybe entice newer players to join as they won’t be, or feel, like the only ignorant person there. WvW is the most exciting part of this game imho and I think it’s due to the fact that you’re fighting other players, not computer programing as people aren’t always predictable. I’m surprised more people aren’t playing for this.
It really is too bad more work from Anet isn’t going into WvW, it could be much much better. Perhaps newer players will start playing WvW once all of you expert players have quit and everyone is “new again.”
Perhaps newer players will start playing WvW once all of you expert players have quit and everyone is “new again.”
This is already happening, there are players who have been playing for under a year, who are now posting suggestions in the forums on what the devs can do to improve the game.
The issue is that these same suggestions were made 1-2 years ago, some of which we have been told they like and are working on. Yet 2 years later still nothing.
And that is the problem, they are attracting people to the game via PvE and Living Story updates every 2 weeks. So these new players, once they realise they can finish PvE pretty quickly end up in either PvP or WvW. It keeps them occupied for a while until they then realise that only PvE seems to get updates, nothing else.
It is this reason why they see an increase of player numbers when a new Living Story episode is released, and then a fall when the Living Story episode is completed. They come on to get the achievement points then go offline for 2 weeks whilst the new episode is prepared.
This method is a REALLY BAD way of keeping a game going. Over time the good review turn bad, and then people stop playing, and potential new players dont buy the game.
