Edge of the Mists Changes
Fix EoTM, then you’ll see an increase in WvW population.
That is a fallacy. Most will leave EotM when they start dying repeatedly or getting farmed and it actually leaves a bad taste for WvW especially when the 2 are entirely different play styles.

You can die repeatedly in any game-mode. It’s just something that’s going to happen regardless of what you’re actually doing. But maybe you’d stick around if you were having fun outside of getting killed, rather than feeling so bored due to a grind that you would rather quit anyway and the dying just makes it easier to switch off?
In PvE, you choose when to die. In WvW, someone else chooses for you.

Think about it from a new player’s perspective. They won’t be as skilled as experienced players. They’ll die more easily regardless of what they’re doing. It’s fine and dandy to say: “In PvE, you choose when you die.” Well yeah, for us, it’s not going to happen that often. But for a new player, it’s going to be quite a common thing.
EOTM is a form of WvW, so why would you want it to have different rewards than WvW? I’d say it is fine as it is, but I do my leveling through PvE. The Tomes given through WvW are just a bonus.
And is leveling really that hard in GW2? Everything you do throws XP at you.
I have a Guard with 3700 Toughness. In PvE I can see the bad guys and choose to engage or avoid. In WvW, I just got ambushed by 5 players coming out of stealth. Insta-Dead…

You still level up with tomes of knowledge which they hand out in the rewards tracks, and wvw dailies. Takes about 8-9 hours to do a track, faster with the potions. You get 8 tomes per track that’s about a level per hour.
That’s for a brand new player which it’s ok for them to take that time to level and learn wvw, if that’s truly what they want to play. Veteran players have tomes stock piled at this point, there’s always people complaining about them in here, plus the 20/30 level birthday boosters.
Brand new players don’t even get the notice for wvw until level 60 now, not to mention the level 80 boost they get with the expansion. It was even slower leveling in wvw over eotm as a ktrain isn’t always present, it’s about even out now with the reward tracks granting the tomes for leveling instead.
Finally the intention of eotm was suppose to be a place to play for players stuck in a queue on the wvw maps, not as a speedy leveling/reward area which many including myself took to instead of pveing to level alts.

Wait, what’s the problem here? I also lvl my characters in EotM and it is actually much better now because we get Tomes instead of exp and that means I can farm them on my main and I don’t have to bring my squishy lowbies to EotM. I have farmed 3 stacks of Tomes since the change. I also like the rewards tracks, I finally got some dungeon skins I’ve always wanted but I never got because I don’t enjoy dungeons.
I think they wanted 80s in WvW farming tomes so they wouldn’t have to bring their uplevels in and be a little less of a liability yet still be able to level their characters. You get such an obscene amount of tomes from the reward tracks. They also changed the mechanics so that one death can only rally 1 downed person so there’s no more 1 person dying and having 10 enemies pop up. All and all, the so called hazards of “new players” by elitists have been greatly mitigated though obviously some people will remain adamant about it.
It’s not that big of a deal in EOTM, of course, but it would still seem more efficient to bring an 80 in since more damage — more ways to AOE = more loot plus you’ll survive an enemy onslaught better. Of course this begs the question of lower levels that do not have an 80 being able to tag for enough damage to get credit though at least if you get into circles, it shouldn’t be a disadvantage.
Plus as you know, lower level characters get those lower level, expensive, mats from champ bags. So it’s not all bad….
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
