Thanks for the update, Josh. Are you going to keep us informed as updates and such roll out from testing? It’d be nice to hear the juicy details as it progresses along.

Yeah we are normally out with a 5 man. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Depends on who’s online. I do hope large guilds will split up their groups so we can get in some fun skirmishes on this cool terrain. I think we have 13 people submitting for the beta.
If it’s possible, we will try to split onto separate maps, if not we will just roam with 2 groups in the same map separately unless we get blobbed on.

That’s not what the map is for though. This map is just an “overflow” waiting area while queued to get into WvW to fight. Nothing that happens on this map will contribute to the overall score, it will just be a place where all players can get in to play while waiting.
They are likely picking bigger guilds to test the lag/latency of real time fights and see if any of the area architecture has any impact, etc .. It likely won’t solve the zerg problem, unless they build specific architecture to thwart that.
All they need to do is give every player on a WvW map a 2-5% bonus to all stats that disappears whenever they are within 1200 range of more than 20 people (or maybe a smaller number) from the same server. The exact bonus percentage needed to encourage zerg breakup should be determined by beta testing.

We have the exact same mindset. We will be representing roaming guilds out there to the best of our ability. We’ve always been about fights over anything else.
I do hope you guys get in, you sound fun to fight.
I think deterring blobbing is a hard problem to fix though. Without core changes to Wxp (splitting it based on how many people are around when someone dies), Upping the AOE cap, it will all be terrain based. From the screen shots, there does appear to be a lot of choke points, LOL Skyhammer style floating islands and bridges etc…so we will just have to see how that plays into the skirmishes. The blobs run with a ton of stability so it would be a huge pain to capitalize on getting a large portion of people off a cliff. Portal play looks be a lot of fun in here, especially on the snow map which has a lot more vertical structures.
We will need to see the actual size of these maps too to see how they favor smaller groups.

Naw I think it might operate like the holiday events where you can be with different servers on your “team” …. Overflow map right? Although I’m not sure how it would work to get your guild in on the same team. Guess that’s the stuff I’m eager to hear about from you guys that get in. Would love to be part of it myself as a “roamer.”
They’ve said for now it’s only against the servers you fight that week but it could become a more generic overflow based on feedback. I assume that affects beta as well, though if it’s a variety of large and small guilds maybe it will be a mix while we test.

You have not understood the puropose of this map. It is amap for everyone to fight the way they want, without having any impact on the score. So you don’t have to play there if you don’t want to, and let other guilds play in their 20 man blobs

Nordvegr runs mostly roaming group(s). Old DAOC guild with many veteran gamers focused on WvW. About 30-35 active members.
They are just slecting PvE guilds.
Because no kind of organised PvP stuff might happen in “WXP Crown Pavilion”

25 people is not inherently a blob bro.
15-20+ is a blob. A blob is a group so big that you just spam all your kitten without having to think. A blob becomes a blob when it is favourable to all blob up and abuse the aoe cap
