Running a guild group is one thing, but it’s another thing to be able to lead the militia and make them work effectively like an organized guild group. As a commander myself, these are the kinds of commanders that I really look up to.

Isn’t Nomnomnomnomnom from IoJ? Or there’s a difference in letters?

I dont think there really is anything like this. Of course there are commanders without enough experience but other than that it really comes down to their individual playstyle.

That said there are a few different commanders:
Those that…

… Are good at leading friendlies
… Are good at leading guildraids
… Are good at attacking/pushing/busting zergs
… Are good at taking over objectives (towers,keeps,…)
… Are good at defending
… Are good at sieging up
… Are good at having a map overview and have a high success rate of knowing enemy movement just from looking at the map for a few seconds again and again
… Have a good overview about what his/her group composition and use their individual strengths
… Are good at movement (has a lot to do with attacking/pushing/busting zergs)

The best commanders are those that know their strengths and weaknesses, know when to badge up accordingly (especially when there are already other commanders on the map) or get “backup” by guildies that make up for his/her weaknesses.
It’s a group game. And follow the commanders that are better at a certain aspect to learn from them. Those commanders that think they are the best at everything are the worst ones. Even worse than pve commanders.
My guild has about 4-5 commanders on a map at a time, but only 1 badged up most of the time. The others backing the badged commander up with information and experience.

For TC, it is really tough to determine a top 5, but here is my list. So many good commanders on the server.

Nightlight[CERN] – The zerg buster. Probably the top overall commander
Odinzu[EP] – Great when he is around. Plays for like a week straight and then disappears for a month
Zudoari[iNf] – The best overall offense commander
Commander Jadon[PiNK] – Great to follow
Pride Lionheart [TV] – The “stack” commander. Always a good time running with him.

Even though Gilkin, Lord of Caps, has left ET, I still nominate him as one of the best commanders. Go Team RamRod! You are missed here, and it was a sad day when you left. It made pandas cry in China.

Sir Morningstar [AoD]

Morningstar is by far the best commander I’ve seen in any server (he is currently on a break for IRL right now). You may think that one person couldn’t have much of an impact on the entire battlefield, but it’s almost scary how skilled he is. Everybody listens to him, for some reason he always gets people to follow directions – I personally believe it’s because they all respect him so much.

His SM treb warfare techniques are spectacular, and he teaches the rest of us as we go along. He is always quick to boost the morale of our server — in one instance he stopped the group for a good five minutes to give a speech that made us want to scream, “FOR DEVONA!” You may think that this would be a waste of time, but we were so inspired and thirsty for blood that we nearly took all of EB because of it. Morningstar never gives up on his teammates, and just seeing him in action takes all fair weather away from us. He is often asked by other commanders from opposing servers how he gets everybody to listen so well.

Morningstar is the reason that I became a competitive WvWer, and I encourage all of you (especially the commanders) to come to DR for just one week when he is back from his break, to see him in action. You could learn so much from it.

On Anvil Rock….it has to be me.
Nobody else is even close.
I mean I am like level 9 and everyone else is level 1.
There are to many reasons to list here on what makes me great.
I am sure every Anvil Rock player will agree though.

I don’t even want to get started on great HoD commanders, there’s way too much tension and drama involved.

But i will say, i’m happy with a few of the commanders that tranferred over from other servers.

NSP

I’m really bad with names. I usually run with guildies and we spend most of our time in the 3 borderlanda. I might also not know the all commanders who play on different time zone. I will probably forget a lot… There is no order.

-Tiberius Maximus [Os]. My guild’s field commander.
-Bird Song [Os]. That guy trained lots of people on NSP and do miracle with very little.
-Smitry [ZoS]. He is awesome!
-Pointe [ZoS]. Don’t know him personally but everytime he is on a map we are doing great.
-Moontrance [TGF]. He as been doing it for quite a while. He is one of the first commander I remember following.
-X braveheart [MoB]. It’s always fun to run with him.

I will add Dangdude since I like him a lot and I am harmless because she is doing a great job when there is no commander online. (She is almost rank 55 in wvw… She is always online. =p. )

Commander Sir Morningstar of Devona’s Rest.. I remember him, I heard of him.. one of the die hard commanders of Tier7-8 server Devona’s Rest. I wanna hear from him more, I wish the best of him and his comrades..

Back in sorrow furnace, I was planning to transfer [RISE] in DR cause of his dedication for his server inspired me.. he plays for the people that plays with him.. no matter what guild they are, he brings people together.. wherever you are morningstar, dont give up! play for the people of Devona!

In my opinion, I think James from Choo is one of the best commanders I’ve ever seen. Win or lose, I’ve seen him lead in some amazing epic fights, both on the field and in keeps. In SoR we are lucky to have some of the best commanders I think GW2 has to offer, but that come to mind… James without a doubt.

I have no idea why this guy isnt getting much attention. His guild is becoming if not already is whats holding NSP together. Never a dull moment or empty bags when you follow his tag. I can bet alot agree too.

Gunbbang is my favorite on SBI, he’s very good at leading for open field fights. He’s the only one who stacks might before fights and I like that. He’s a real friendly guy and communicates well on TS.

Bannok is a god kitten steam roller when it comes to taking keeps/towers, just a karma/xp train when he’s on. He loves to flank and he’s good at it. He doesn’t use TS and still plows through kitten without it.

Grundlebad is pretty good, his attitude is a bit bad though. He acts entitled and generally is full of negativity, talks down to everyone, refuses to command at times etc. But he is good at commanding the zerg.
