I would like to address a flaw in the scoring system witch is a result of:

- The amount of rating that exchanges hands between the servers of a Tier at the end of a matchup is equal to 0. If 2 teams loose 2000 rating the 3rd team will win 4000 rating.
- Total amount of rating is a constant (40 500 000 for EU in example).
- Server rating win at the end of a matchup is dependent of the rating of the other 2 servers in the same Tier.

This produces the following effect:

- It is becoming increasingly difficult for a T2 server to get to T1 (check T1 and T2 US – 150k differnce between 3rd server in T1 and 1st server in T2)
- It is becoming increasingly difficult for a T8(T9 EU) server to climb up (check T9 EU – Blacktide is winning by a HUGE margin and yet they will lose more rating this week)
- Middle tiers also suffer from the same matchups over numerous weeks due to this stalling effect.

This lack of change in the competition leads to a degree of boredom because we are facing same opponents over and over again. Stronger servers loosing ppl due to lack of better opposition, weaker servers loosing ppl due to low morale.

My suggestion – a Ratings Reset in the Following Format:

All EU T1 servers gets their rating reset to 1 700 000
All EU T2 servers gets their rating reset to 1 650 000
All EU T3 servers gets their rating reset to 1 600 000
All EU T4 servers gets their rating reset to 1 550 000
All EU T5 servers gets their rating reset to 1 500 000
All EU T6 servers gets their rating reset to 1 450 000
All EU T7 servers gets their rating reset to 1 400 000
All EU T8 servers gets their rating reset to 1 350 000
All EU T9 servers gets their rating reset to 1 300 000

Sum of all ratings will again be 40 500 000. Same thing can be done for US server. If you want to keep sum of all ratings 40 500 000 start from 1850 and again go down in 50k steps.

For both EU and US a 30k reset step might be a good option too.

I don’t know about EU, but on NA servers I seriously doubt any T2 server would have the coverage to compete in T1. So I think honestly the system is working as intended; meaning that it is suppose to keep the servers that are fighting competitive.

No system is perfect and there are some problems. There are loopholes that happen because of coverage, some servers are really Tx.5 meaning they they have too many for their current tier but not enough for the next.

If there was more server movement you would still have stacked servers dropping down to a tier where they dominate, and servers moving up into tiers where they have no hope of competing in.

The sad fact is there is no way to have perfectly balanced match ups. There are very few (if any) servers that have equal coverage and numbers. And no amount of tinkering with server ratings will ever fix that.

Atm we are having same fights week after week. Basically the servers have settled into a monotonous routine – this above all is the problem. I think something is needed to shake things up a bit.

They should set up the year of wvw like football cup season cup. Everyone meet everyone once then at the end of the year winner and reset score. And one cup per year means more than one cup per week !

For me its a good workaround until they find a solution. Although i find that the current system is prety good withe the exception of the flaw i mentioned. Football championships restart every year – we don’t call this a workaround we call this a football season.

For EU Blacktide may be owning it’s tier but tbh it took a rather large fall from grace from tier 1 and bled out points down to where it’s at currently, despite winning it’s current matchup it still has points to make up for to allow it to move up.

In this particular situation Blacktide is winning tier 8 but cannot move up until either it catches up and exceeds Whiteside Ridge’s score in tier 7 or Ruins of Surmia does the same to get into tier 6.

Yes it’s a pain for those in tier 8 BT will eventually move out but currently it could possibly take an unknown amount of time so i do hope Anet finds a fix to your dilemma.

For me the current system relies too much on servers winning and losing consistently to lose or gather sufficient points to go up or down which isn’t always the case many match ups become a stalemate as servers point income’s flux this makes some tiers stagnate hampering other servers in different tiers from progressing.

I see one of the flaws of the current system is that a server despite losing frequently can stay in a tier for a long time primarily riding on it’s past success and accumulated score to keep a point gap between 1st place in the tier below rather than it’s current performance.

A reset would only be a short term fix eventually the problem would appear again without an additional means to place a server in a tier other than points alone, possibly rewarding bonus points depending on a servers placement ie 1st 2nd 3rd at the end of the week could help boost the point differences between those stomping in 1st in the tier below whilst the 3rd position in the above tier hangs on life support indefinitely.

an average 17 point rating gap between all servers would make things far too volatile for anets (or players) liking. blowouts would result in servers jumping/diving 2-3 tiers, which is a bit more than youd want.

spread it out a little more so theres ~40-50 rating between each server on average. i think thats about right for the system as it is. the current amount of 60-70 is too much and starts having problems w/ isolating tiers from each other.

to make this a permanent solution instead of a bandaid, also code in a hard cap and floor to rating so ratings cant spread apart too far and lock matches. automate the soft resets to occur any time a 200+ gap appears between 2 servers. suddenly no more complaints about the system.

This would constantly test the match-ups and provide some needed volatility to keep WvW matches interesting. Movement in both directions is equalized. Placement in the tiers would actually get to where they should be and then this sytem would continue to test the accuracy of those placements. It’s simple, it’s logical … therefore, they probably won’t adopt it.

maybe if a server wins its tier 3 times in a row, it should be moved up.

Or they could be focusing 1st place to get 1st themselves and so what if you go down a tier, if your server is good enough you’ll be back up in a week.

I think it would encourage more to play WvW (Omg more lag lol)

This would be a good way to do match ups
Maybe still have a score system and have leader boards for servers – but this will not affect match ups.
So you would have match ups based on a week by week win/lose situation and a leaderboard to show the servers on a time based system.

Do it once a month or every 2 weeks.

If your good, you’ll move up. If you’re real good, you’ll rise to the top and stay there.

As it stands now it is hypothetically possible for tier 8 to have 3 equally matched teams that are better than anyone else, yet because they are evenly matched will NEVER move.

Lets get a simple system in place, TOP goes up, BOTTOM goes down.
